Can you spot the evil snowman hiding among the others?

12 December 2004, 11:23 PM
Here's my entry, can anyone recognize it?

"solid snowman's always been scary, he's tough on the outside, but when things heat up he's nothing but a softie"

i used a ref, and here it is:

the pun isn't mine, but mettoolman's, so take it up with him :P

Comments are welcome

12 December 2004, 11:38 PM
hey where's that other one I sent you? I like this one better, he looks more like a snowman. (

So a horse walks into a bar, right? And the bartender asks him: "Why the long face?"

And then a mushroom walks into a bar but the bartender asks him to leave. The mushroom replies "Why? I'm a fun guy!" (Fungi, get it? HAHAHA no. That one's better when someone says it)

Puns blow.

Hi - This is my first entry to the sketch challenge. I used Painter IX, and it took 1 hour.

Sometimes snowmen need a break...

12 December 2004, 11:56 PM
30 min, ps/wacom, they are in hiding alreight, soo well hidden, it's like they haven't been made yet.

12 December 2004, 12:00 AM
I'm actually happy with my effort in this one for once! :D

40 mins PS (snow reference used)

12 December 2004, 12:11 AM
missed some cool topics. TOo bad.

allright I felt like doing something different today. I tried pure black and white. It's late so I kept it quite loose. Tell me what you think.

Of course the story is done a hundred time.. I didn't look in this thread on forehand tho.

augustus: I like the colors but I'm not sure what's going on.
robinayles: nice. don't forget shadows and don't kill the picture with effects :)
DarkLord101: you got the same idea as me :) nice execution
MettoolMan: nope, I'm sorry :D Indeed, your second is better
DMageXVII: cool picture. the yellow "2" isn't working that good. but I like it
catnip: nice, it's really an ice man when he sticks in there too long :)
Delarosa: be careful with perspective
erilaz: that might be one of your best efforts yet! nice work!

12 December 2004, 12:30 AM
Wow, Garma! The black and white has incredible depth to it. Stark contrasts make it quite powerful.
DMageXVII: Great Interpretation of the style. I love his work, and you did it justice!
Delarosa: Good tree in the foreground, but as garma says, careful with that perspective! Use a ref if you can.
MettoolMan: Is it the one with the hat?:D
Darklord101: Nice god rays!
augustus: Beautiful work. A really well set mood.
robinayles: The fade of the trees into the distance works very well!
ElysiumGX: Is it hiding behind your sig?
catnip: Great work on the fridge and snowman!

12 December 2004, 02:22 AM
@Erilaz & Garma: Thanks for the compliments and critiques!

@Garma: I like your pic, but it seems to me the flare is cheapening the picture. I'd crop it so only the right half of the pic is visible in order to empasize the snowman. Great expression on the snowman, btw!

@Erilaz: Great expression on the snowman! The man in there really looks beastly! Right on!

@ElysiumGX: Lol!

12 December 2004, 02:37 AM
Thanks for the comments!

My turn now:

Garma - I like the use of black and white, and the way the snowman is cringing behind the tree. Very effective.

I like the shadows in Augustus' picture.

Also, the flatness of robinayles sketch makes it look like a Christmas card graphic, which I like.

Finally, what are the rules for using references? Do we have to post a link?

12 December 2004, 02:48 AM
pencil/photoshop 1/2 hour

None really... post it up if you want to show how you used it, I guess!:D

12 December 2004, 03:44 AM
it takes me more time to find an suitable reference than for me to draw it... i'll just butcher my way through until i get into some art classes.

thanks for the feedback though

Practice practice practice! :D Doing this as often as possible has improved my sketching tenfold!

Ok, somewhat seriously this time...
45 mins Photoshop + tablet
still getting use to painting with tablet. didn't really have a good idea to start with this time.

12 December 2004, 06:50 AM
Just another quick one, because I wanted to do a big robot in the snow... probably not as good as my last effort!

12 December 2004, 11:39 AM
Damn you, Vitriolic, that's beautiful

1 hour, PS + Wacom

Frosty is in hiding after a run in with the law in North Dakota. It seems his passion for stealing other's clothes to regain "life" has taken a hold of him. First it was the "magic hat" then it was the "magic panties."

What will come next? Won't someone think of the children?

Be particularly on the look out in New Mexico. It is believed that Frosty may have a cousin living there that he may be able to stay with for a while.

12 December 2004, 03:24 PM
1h wacom photoshop
hope you like it

12 December 2004, 04:51 PM

12 December 2004, 08:32 AM
Viltronic, you must teach us all to do snowflakes like yours... that's awsome.

12 December 2004, 08:58 AM
darklord - thx
El-Rodente - where do you come from?why are you posting in german?

12 December 2004, 06:30 PM
wow Tinitus I especially like the green mittens and top hat. That is one clever snowman, hiding amongst the other fake ones. Looks nothing like mine.

12 December 2004, 09:26 PM
Delarosa, I just used one of the default Photoshop CS brushes:

I think it's called 'dry brush'. I set the brush diameter quite high and used a white foreground and light bluish background colour.

12 December 2004, 12:52 AM
thanks for posting your tips, Vit!

12 December 2004, 09:45 AM
Looks nothing like mine.if it is sarcasm...
I draw the image before I scrolled through the sites and saw your own.
on the other hand I don't feel any similarities first idea was to show the real one building one of the others.but then I decided to let him pose like all the others and to let him wear all this stuff to underline that he is just hiding...

12 December 2004, 10:05 AM
haha LMAO , totally awesome drawings man!

12 December 2004, 04:19 PM
