View Full Version : Another C&C Red Alert Game

12 December 2004, 12:52 AM
December 07, 2004 - You may be aware that the Command & Conquer games have a newsletter to, well, keep fans updated on the series. What you may not be aware of is that Mark Skaggs, Vice President and Executive Producer over at EA, dropped a bomb on the email list by announcing another game set in the Red Alert universe, as reported by our friends over at PlanetCNC ( And an exclusive newsletter announcement that stayed exclusive for approximately three and half seconds, Mr. Skaggs had this to say, in part:
"...We have a MAJOR announcement to make and we are making it exclusively to our long time C&C fans. This announcement is not going out to the press and it won't appear on the EA website or anywhere else online. We are very proud to announce that the team that brought you Command & Conquer(TM) Red Alert 2(TM), Command & Conquer(TM) Yuri's Revenge, and Command & Conquer(TM) Generals has officially started work on our next project set in the Red Alert universe!"

We'll have more info as the story develops. Let's just hope it's not a sequel to Renegade.

Westwood is now part of EA, so many of the people who used to work at westwood will be working on it...

Hmm i thought i read most of the original staff that worked on the original C&C series (RA1/RA included) aren't employed there anymore - short note...probably why generals missed some of the "sparks" from the old games.

Damn i really thought they'd go for C&C twillight this time - only really enjoyed RA1 - RA2 was poop.

The biggest WW veterans is not working for EA. They have founded a new studio, called Petroglyph. (
Working on a new Star Wars RTS togheter with Lucas Arts.

That Westwood was bought by EA is in my opinion one of the most tragic things ever in the game industry.
There was time when Blizzard and Westwood were the big ones. But after WW signed with EA, it did not take long before things went downhill.
WW did in my opinion get a bit to hung up on the C&C franchise, with some half-hearted game expansions and so on. Sure it was probably bringing in the big bucks for them there and then, but in the long run I think they lost a lot of the "quality respect" they used to have.
They also had a lot of major delays on some of their games (LOL2, Tiberian sun, Renegade), making the ingame engine look quite out-dated before the game hit the shelves.
It's a quite typical scenario actually, WW was little company (considering their success) before EA bought them. Once they became bigger (in the sense of contracts), and tripled their staff (EA formed a secondary base in California), their products started lacking the quality.
Like Dune 3, the Lands of Lore sequels (number three seemed extremely rushed), Nox (the rumours would have this to be the new Diablo..), Renegade, Tiberian Sun (most reviews agreed that it did not reach the expectations).

I hear ya...

We've been looking at RA2 for some LAN action here at work, but it does indeed stink as a game compared to RA1. If only there was a way to play RA1 networked on win2k.....

12 December 2004, 12:34 PM [Just search for "RA1 lan"] [I would think this works for RA1 too - haven't tried it myself, but it works superbly with C&C1]

It seems strange to most people, but I seem to like Red Alert 2 more than I do C&C Generals...

I still play RA2 a lot, and with an updated graphics engine, and a big budget from EA, I can do nothing but look forward to this game coming out...

Now if only I could fast-forward time and play it now...:D

Great stuff - thanks, I'll check it out.

There have been rumours about RA3 for ages. Due to the fact: ( has been registered by EA since 27th-March-2000.

Glad to see it’s going to happen for real and isn’t just a rumour anymore.

I love Red Alert, 1 and 2. And Generals is a great game. I look forward to Red Alert 3, I can see Generals + World War 2 background + Sea vessels :)
