View Full Version : First work on my short

I've started animating my short, here's the first scene that I did:
I'm still pretty new to animation, but I'm always looking for pointers. Any suggestions?

not bad at all for someone who is new to animation. Himgetting up off the floor looks good. A few suggestions though, when he lands have his arms hit a few frames after his body hits the floor on the second land, it'll show weight a bit more.
Also when he's walking around have his arms doing something, they look like they're made of wood when he's looking around. Have him maybe rubbing his arm first as if it hurt when he fell and then getting nervous about the place he's in.
Anyways, keep it up, good stuff so far.

the fall to the ground could be more forceful. the getting up looks good. i'd have him look around and become scared, rather than being scared the instand he's on his feet. also, that pose with his arms in the air and backing up is really weak. and you hold it for a long time. i'd tweak that pose. his right arm is at a strange angle. also, i'd try having him look around a bit more while backing up.... quick and random head and eye darts might add more fear.
good work so far.

Great work on this animation especially for a first timer!? The attention to detail in the victims character is good throughout the sequence, for example when he picks his head up and peers around his surroundings after hitting the ground. Perhaps the ogre character should have a bit more fluidity in his body as he jumps down the pit, the weight of his body pulling his pose down that then allows him to rise ominously back to his full height.
Very nice start, this looks like its got the potential to ge a great short.

Any background on the short? Why are you making it? When do you project it to be completed by? How long is the film? Synopsis?

Thanks for all the replies! I should have a longer and updated animation to show soon.
As for the project, here's the website:
There are pictures and the story at that site. The story's basically about a martian and a Mars monster who become best friends through their common interest of music. If you read the story on the website it'll make much more sense...
