12 December 2004, 03:27 AM

the water looks abit noisy... others r really nice :)

12 December 2004, 03:28 AM
Very good... i guess you could used a little damage to the buildings, they seams too damn new!

12 December 2004, 03:34 AM
Beautiful scene! I really love the sky and lighting on the city. Aside from small details like maybe some smoke trails for the fires, this looks excellent. I am a big fan of the Prince of Persia game too, you guys did an incredible job with the artwork :applause: That's why I bought it afterall :)

12 December 2004, 03:37 AM
wow your lighting is incredible. Very inspirational.

12 December 2004, 04:13 AM

Holy figs! Awesome piece! The lighting is impeccable! :-|

oh my god

Excellent :applause:

would you like to see my 2D challenge city and concepts

12 December 2004, 07:36 AM
I like it a lot. Seems to be a good idea to combine the backlight of the sunset with the light of the torches in the shadow area. Very impressive.
Olny Crit: The water in the foregrounc looks a bit loveless.
But encourages me even more to go studying some time abroad in Quebec/Montreal

12 December 2004, 07:56 AM
Great work.

I am looking forward to seeing the destroyed version!

12 December 2004, 08:06 AM

12 December 2004, 10:31 AM
This looks fabulous! Really great work, is this also on the PoP Art Book?

12 December 2004, 10:32 AM
Good work, I like so much the atmosphere and the lighting. Everything what I have seen of the Prince of Persia is really good. Congratulations for the whole team of artists. *****
Sorry my English is very bad.

12 December 2004, 10:57 AM
Yeah, it is beautiful! But... there is one small historical fact. If this is Babylon, There should be The Istarian gate (It is blue with golden dragon an lions,...), It's repilc can be seen in Beriln museum (I think). So it is all. It is not a critic... It is really beautiful image. I mean it seriously!

12 December 2004, 12:09 PM
superbe travaille,la lumiere est magnifique, ya juste la montagne a gauche mais bon je pinaille.
la qualité des artworks sur pop est de grande qualité, autant 2d que 3d.:bounce:

regards, Paul

12 December 2004, 02:32 PM
I just love it excellent work:thumbsup:

12 December 2004, 02:55 PM
Amazing Painting the color is fantastic

12 December 2004, 03:00 PM
he he merci Nuro Fen, tes dessins aussi sont super bons :)

you're right Mirwen for the original blue door in Babylon, but its a Fantasy version of babylon... and you know that original colours in ancient architecture are so saturated that it is not in the mood... very often so we have to distort historical references :P

12 December 2004, 03:34 PM
 Your work is simply STUNNING

I once tried to model a kind of copy of that underwater cavern level in Prince of Persia that i saw on your website. It didn't come out very good though :(

12 December 2004, 04:28 PM
Amazing work. Nothing more to be said. All around great peice. :applause:

12 December 2004, 04:39 PM

12 December 2004, 05:21 PM

12 December 2004, 05:38 PM
You guys did a fantastic job with the Prince of Persia revival. It was a pleasure to see and play with it. Congratulation.

12 December 2004, 05:50 PM
As always with your work; incredibly nice lighting and a very strong mood! :) I really really like that mood in it :)

12 December 2004, 06:04 PM

The sky looks Vue d'esprit -ish though. Not a major point, but I thought I'd point it out to live up or something... Great detail, stuff happening and so on. Exciting!

12 December 2004, 07:29 PM
Awesome work! You, guys @ ubi have a fine touch! NIce work on the lighting and the shadow! Perfect match for the game Prince of Persia : warrior within!!!

Say Hi from Kaiross to Yannis mallat!! :D (If He reminds...)

12 December 2004, 08:56 PM
 awesome man! you got a new fan.

12 December 2004, 10:01 PM
Awesome work dude.

12 December 2004, 11:32 PM
Dude, that's beautiful... the only thing I'm not so sure about is the hills on the left in the background... the seem to be, in comparison to the rest, very low in detail... but overall, the atmosphere etc... simply cool  therefor from me man

12 December 2004, 11:38 PM
Cool lighting!

12 December 2004, 11:53 PM

I was fallowing some of your art work, bookmarking them and all... but...

I didn't knew you were working at Ubisoft !?!

It's so great to see Montréal's potentiel ! :D

:lightbulb Is Ubisoft looking for Texturer at the moment !? :D :p

12 December 2004, 01:35 AM
This is fantastic!

Evocative, extremely well done.

12 December 2004, 03:49 AM

- Oikman

12 December 2004, 04:02 AM
very,very nice .i couldn't see any mistake

12 December 2004, 09:28 AM
ça déchire chez UBI! je supose ke c pour prince of persia
vous avez l'air d'avoir le temps de faire des trucs superbes
combien de temps pour faire cette scene?

Very nice work from Ubi, i think its from prince of persia artwork
How much time to do this complete scene?

12 December 2004, 10:33 AM
I'm a big fan of the prince of persia games, especially Sands of Time :)
Excellent lightning, a warm and calm mood

12 December 2004, 10:59 AM
Your work is complete eyecandy to me - thankyou! :)
I'm also a big fan of 'POP Sands of time' and currently sat at my desk twiddling my thumbs in anticipation for the sequel to arrive today! I was just reading an interview with Nicolas Bouvier (in 3dworld mag) reg. the speed-painting techniques used to create the concept artwork for Warrior Within. Interesting stuff!
Sorry but I've got to take the opportunity... a big virtual beer to everyone who worked on both titles.

12 December 2004, 12:57 PM
Great sunset, and miracle work

12 December 2004, 05:20 PM
very nice image and atmosphere...

12 December 2004, 09:30 PM
Raphael, I see only masterpieces from you..and this is stunning! I agree with all the comments posted, the lighting is superb!
just one thing..why matte? everything seems 3d to me..what parts of the image are not 3d?
keep rocking mate! :buttrock:

12 December 2004, 09:58 PM
hey this is great... wonderful rendering and awesome lighting.. the geometries somewhere looks bit low poly and the edges dont seem to have highlights, i eman it looks to cornery. btw u got an amazing job done here.. i really liked the detail u put into this art.. i spacially like ur bamboo structures on the top of that big building... very well done.. keep it up mate...

12 December 2004, 10:14 PM
Not bad for a rookie ;)

Ok, ok, whipe my back, I return to work ! :P

12 December 2004, 11:59 PM
Awesome work! Great mood.

12 December 2004, 01:05 AM
This image just gets my personal "WICKED SICK"
Good job!

12 December 2004, 09:11 AM
Excelent work, like the lighting the best.:buttrock:

12 December 2004, 04:07 PM
It's the lighting overall that makes this shot - looks great! I don't believe the edges are too sharp in this case, as overcontrast suggests......if you were nearer I'd agree, but you don't always see that kind of detail, unless it's pretty gross, from these distances.

But the flames in the torches by the waterside - they look too pointed, too much like candle flames. The sense I get is that these are really large, the actual objects I mean, but the flames don't seem to sit well with those structures or be believable.

12 December 2004, 05:14 PM
you are my hero~~~

12 December 2004, 11:52 PM
Beautiful shot!!! is it all done in 3D? were the effects done in Photoshop?

Awesome job, man,

12 December 2004, 04:36 AM
nice work!

12 December 2004, 04:49 AM
was this done by ONE man? That's incredible.

12 December 2004, 02:19 PM
Man, this is Awesome... Very, very nice. I am in love with the details :D

12 December 2004, 04:31 PM
thanks all ,

yes! it is done by one man... with the hands :)
It is actually All 3D, this is why I call it 3D matte painting.
I did a few colour corrections in photoshop indeed and for the movie shot,
it was done in after effects,

cheers all !

12 December 2004, 05:58 AM
Perfect... whell, olmost... only one problem - water...

12 December 2004, 06:31 AM
your lighting is superb Very immpressive.

12 December 2004, 09:11 AM
Awesome picture  :buttrock: :applause:

But you know, the Tower of Babel is not related to Babylon :)

12 December 2004, 10:34 AM
I keep seeing posts about your water, but I was out for a walk yesterday near my local reservoir, and that water looked naturally busier than yours. I think this image is superb and I hope that you continue to produce such wonderful work for all of the rest of us to cry at its beauty.:)

12 December 2004, 12:42 PM
huh when do you get to read all these reply's :)
overall look is really impressive...only plastic thing that I noticed are those far mountains on the left side with that castle...maybe a little fog or dof there and some not so flat texture on the mountain would improve the final look...but this is just extra extra detail...
the image looks great:thumbsup:

12 December 2004, 01:05 PM
Yeh you are right about that. And in historical facts, the Babylon tower was no a tower, but zikkurat. But you are right... it is fantasy, not duplicate of city Babylon. :-)

12 December 2004, 01:30 PM
great lighting,. nice detail.

12 December 2004, 07:01 PM

Great jod dude, i love it
see it

12 December 2004, 08:17 PM
elle est ba bel ta tour ;) (ok je sors...)

nice one as usual! Keep them going!!

12 December 2004, 09:05 PM
One little nit; The palms need more varriation (frond angles are all the same, etc.)

Otherwise it's perfect!

12 December 2004, 11:55 PM
Nice lighitng, the water is superb. The mountains in the background though could use a little work i think. Other than that its great :)

12 December 2004, 08:47 AM
amazing light wiht great model, but ur BG hill is not so fit, i think

12 December 2004, 09:06 AM
*just fell off my chair* it's simply beautiful

12 December 2004, 11:56 AM
brilliant work. I'm impressed

12 December 2004, 07:19 PM
It actually hurts my stomache to see this stuff. Of course I'm playing the game atm (the last one was my fav game last year) but all my spare time is spent on a 3d character for a 2d game. I've spent sooo many years learning maya and I still can't even touch this stuff. grrr!

12 December 2004, 12:03 AM
Love the sun atmosphere.

12 December 2004, 07:42 AM
wow! I so want to do matte paintings...what inspiration!!

12 December 2004, 10:02 PM
Congratulations! The light is impressive! It shows more details to us of the work.

12 December 2004, 11:24 PM
what a great scene! especially i like its tone.

12 December 2004, 10:01 PM
That's an excellent work! Very imposing view, I really love the golden sunset and the whole atmosphere and composition of the piece. The tower reminds me of Babel Tower.

12 December 2004, 09:24 AM
very cool!, I love the "look and feel"that I get from the image

12 December 2004, 04:00 AM
I am really loving this piece- the image is breathtaking and the lighting is ON POINT (perfect)!! gorgeous!

Only crit I have, is that the angles of the spiral building and the top of the one immediately in front of it appear to be a bit awkward. (However I am not familiar with the game.)

It'd make a gorgeous desktop image. Lookin fwd to more works from ya.
- bless!

12 December 2004, 10:12 PM
Excellent work. I love it

12 December 2004, 12:10 PM
this relaxing my mood.....nice one

12 December 2004, 09:04 PM
The light (sun) is amazing, just the way it hurts my eyes to look at it.
great work.

12 December 2004, 09:11 PM
This is ready to go on the air
good job man

12 December 2004, 06:26 PM
i like it
it like civ3

12 December 2004, 01:09 AM
Awesome image! Almost hurts the eyes to look at it. Must of taken forever for one man to make - how many hours?

One question though? I don't understand the angle of the light that's casting shadows on the people in the courtyard. It's not coming from the sun, so is there another source?

12 December 2004, 07:55 AM
 :banghead: superb yaar.wish i cud do tht 1 day

12 December 2004, 01:39 PM
I've ended POPWW today. For the sake of artizm you MUST play. Animation, montion, textures, FMV sequences. It's not only a game. It's like interactive film. And scenario... the greatest one since Final Fanstasy 8. Wonderful ... you guys done great job. (Extra features are KILLING)

04 April 2006, 06:35 PM
Fantastic Details & Mode

01 January 2007, 01:44 AM
The sheer scale and volume attracted me to this image.
I love the sun setting and all the shadows it portrayed in your image.
Even the individual people have thier own shadows.
So much detail awesome.

05 May 2007, 11:04 PM
it is really excelent.
