Vision of Tibet. My first image ever with Painter. Used version 8. Seems like a good tool but still needs to be edited a bit in Photoshop afterwards. So Painter and Photoshop around 1h 30min.

I'm really happy with my sketch today. I think it might even be one of my best ever and I think im finally getting a grasp of digital painting.

I added a texture too one but im not sure if its helping so id like people to choose which they like better.

I've always struggled with drawing mountains (since I grew up watching those painters on tv who specialized in painting mountains). I like the way they turned out in this sketch though. The temple leaves much to be desired but I kinda just wanted something in there for scale.

Painter IX, 30 min.

thebigxer: I saw that reference photo on Google image search and really liked it for what potential I figured a guy like Jon Foster might pull out of it. I like yours too. good job

Russell_Collins: Thank you for the comments.

I find yours surrealistic in a sense because the mountains seem to be melting and flowing towards the temple and creating a great focal point. I think if you gave your mountains shaper edges and maybe some darker tones you could achieve a more realistic look but what do i know im like the worst painter in the world. I think the temple looks alright except the high contrast it makes is kind of distracting.

Goro: Thats awesome!! I dont like the hand to much but im sure if you wanted to you could make it amazing. How do you get such amazing texture in your works?

I agree, but I guess he's busy thinking in 3d rather than 2d ;)
Check his works in the 3d section. I guess the same goes for Taron :(

This seems to be another one of those topics that has brought out the best in everyone!! The quality here is amazing. Just hoping mine fits...

painter / ps / 1hr (with ref)

Telémaco, how do you control your lines so well? I couldn't draw a strong, well behaved line with the wacom if my life depended on it...So....please tell us at what resolution your files are and at what zoom percentage to you sketch at...many thanks!!

BTW, good idea with the reference theme...it has worked well for jiasaer and yourself

Excellent entries everyone :)

Goro> Thx. I like your entries too! This one is good, maybe the background is not as good as the child, don't u think? :)Drawmonger> I use to draw in 2000X2000, when I'm in photoshop I use a 4 pixel brush, 5 point if I want it to be specially cartoon and 3 point for detailed parts. I have no secrets for doing lines, I just do them at 100% (I always do a first sketch with very strong lines, at 16%, and use it as a base at 40% opacity).
