There is the Chess for the project.. Oly The horse figure have been derailed.. texturing ahead.. quick render to get the picture..
The image is going to be about two leaders of armys aliens vs humans( or close to humans) which will play chess ( on the hill) but down the hill the real war is between two races.. the meaning is.. leaders fight own fight and the troops are fighing own fight.. later u will understand.. sorry for such limited information about my work.. i will explain abit later.. :)

okay great wen i first saw the chess stuff i guessed that u wanna make aliens and human play chess.. o well keep updating i wanna c more... btw good luck with ut GSO :thumbsup:

Very nice idea! Make those leaders very clean, and quite entertained, completely different from the troops. That would be a very thought provoking image. The only problem is the amount of work... I Wish you best and hope you will finish on time.:thumbsup:

I have to agree to the two post before.... very nice idea but it sounds like a lot of work.
Maybe you try to sketch your idea first even if its just a rough. But I think it will help you
keep an eye on the complexity of your illustration.

yep it seems to be alotta work, but im aiming for my free time on the vacation ;)
sorry that i am not making the picture clear for u, i will do it probably tomorrow.. for now i need to finish working with chess figures only because i know myself, if i stop it will be hard to cont. :)

there is just a render (style) and lighting overview.. basicly texture is showing both colors for black and white sides.. and only the"queen" have been updated with the textures..

anyway there are final colors and shaders..

so there is an explanation, the final image should have this sort of place.. two key characters will be on the top having a beautiful view on (war) the dark green is the alien or its not really an alien yet, looks more like a sphire, but anyway on the right side will be the alien and the human will be on the left side.. they will be playing chess game. Alien will be winning
i hope 49 days enough to make everything as i want!
p.s. im not too much of a 2d artist so sorry for such an ugly sketch..

Those who by this time hates chess figures or anything like this, can relax now, thats the last figure! horse lol again.. this one on my opinion is the closest to other chess fugures..

Hello! So there is the sketch or at least it looks like a sketch, but i guess you guys will get the idea how aliens head is going to look like.. it will not be used for the reference, i never use reference for modelling!
On back of his head is going to be the part of his hemlet, which will be behind his head, the hemlet itself is going to roll back just like the glass on your "bike hemlet"

Woah... niiiiiice alien you've modeled. The third eye area looks really good, too. And, the chess pieces are a great idea. They match the modeling style of the alien. Well done.

Ok lets see......................I like this....it's interesting,I like the idea.I think these last WIP's look quite nice Kvitko.........Smooth and clean.A real nice piece of work.I'll be watching for more in between my 20 hour days,work at it hard,looks quite good and quite promising.....:arteest:

i just made him arm.. basicly his arm will be almost invisible under his armor or clothes whatever u will call it.. so im not detailing his arm too much..

there is a really bad quality step by step wip image.. sorry for that , i just abosolutley to set my wipcam before i started working on this leg.. anyway there is something to let you help the idea about how or which way did it model it..

just dropped in to say, that i have started working with human face ( the another key character for the scene ) i "paused" my work at the alien only because im not sure how much stuff will i be albe to do during thise 45 days.. my work is killing me, its always difficult to find enough time to work at my 3d project while i have so much work...
i am really sorry about me not explaining anything good enough, i need to make a good sketch so you people will get the idea about how the scene will look like or what kind of style will it have..
just to drop more light on the situation i would like to say this..
style: i am trying to get something between something "weird and standart" meaning is that it will have something u dont understand, but same time everything will seems to be natural
for example.. the scene will have water sky and grass, which means it has oxygen which means humans can breath in there so they will have suits ( same time when i thinking about creating a war, i need more and more details in it, for an example faces) well that i simply dont have time to create so humans will wear masks logcily it doesnt fit.. masks are made for something like to breath or to hide faces ( there is no point to hide face in the war ) so thats the first problem i have i need to make something which will help me to make everything in 45 days... so basicly what im trying to say here, is that war is a hell of a deal so its hard to make it look good, i was thinkin making something more simple, like a fight but not a war, well i will see later, when my both key characters are made and the close scene is made ( chess "fight" on the hill between human and alien )
if anybody have anything to say, please i would be happy to see :)

question - the subject of quads is long in my head and now i'm messing with subds in mental ray it's required. Do you only use quads?
I like the model. Seems like a pretty high rez base tho. I wonder if the same amount of detail couldn't be achieved with less polys? I'm interested in your take on the matter. Less critique and more of a question :)

ereitz, yes i only use quads, i find them clean and nice way to model..
there are a few ways im modeling stuff, for the head its just box -> edge -> edit -> edge -> edit, then if in some places it gets messy im just smoothing them up like using clusters ( if ure using maya ) or softselect ( if ure using max ) ( you also can do it on zbrush very useful tool for this, saves alot of time ) then just add small details on it in maya or max or whatever u use ( i use maya), for the arms and body that exactly what i did, first ive modelled the hand, then just dragged the whole thing, imported it in zbrush, smoothed whole thing and sortof made it anatomicly look fine.. really simple, same thing for the body...
after i attached body to legs i have deleted some edges and still its only quads.. once ill design him armor or a suit i will post an update, but for now im working at this human guy..
still i dont use anything for reference, so ill start with his hands lol :p

so i made a sketch (finally) which shows how does "human suit" or armor looks like, this should give you an idea about it...
as i said before im not too much of a 2d artist so the sketch doesnt look great :)

ok now goes abit of an explanation for this sketch...
in his left hand he has his hemlet ( hemlets will look like the old once from ww2, just alittle midified, with lights on top and made of plasic ( ooh where are we going, from metal to plasic ) hehe just a joke.. it will be made of a metal, most of the armor will be made of metal.. so thats the human suit or armor.. in his right hand he hasa gun... which shots with bullets not with lazers or anything like this, i like to keep on classic, nothing is smarter then a bullet... suits will be abit dirty and old... this suit is for the standart soldier ( trooper )
the leader will have a little bit different kind of suit, it will be bigger and different from the others..
now as far as i dont have much time left to create the whole war, i will probably really focus on thise two guys at least for now.. i am working at both of them, i just had to design the suit for humans so i wont be needing to tweak everything untill it looks not annoying...
so thats about it i think.. peace!

awh, work is killing me! i dont have much time to work at this project :'(
and when i have time i wanna sleep!
well anyway i try..
so i thoght that its time to post some update, itve been a while...
so there you can see main part ( brest and back ) is ready for zbrush for some small details and textures..
shoulders left for the top part and legs + above legs is missings, its because i havent even started to work at it yet :banghead:

Color -> yellow + red ( classic )
material -> metal
parts -> arms ( 2 parts + hand ) legs (3 parts above legs + legs + feet (4th) ) main part (1 part Shoulders ( 1 part ) and the hemlet.. so thats gonna be the suit..
i can not render now, so i had to take a screenshot.. its my damn render in maya, its getting laggy, gotta fix it before jun. 17 lol
