View Full Version : Speed paints
A vehicle I knocked out tonight:wip:
They dont have explicit 'realist' content, but graphically, I think they are pretty solid - what do you think?
Not as if I hadn't said it before, but I always get stuck when I see your abstracts. It's like some sort of visual glue my eyes cling to.
And I actually don't even try to figure them out or anything.
They're a bit like minimalist modern classical music, maybe Arvo Pärt-like, though they're somewhat too saturated for that analogy - but they share that hypnotical quality of music, in general.
I am not a synaesthet or something - I just compare things to music very often...
Also, your black and white figure art in this thread is very uncompromising and exciting.
Vahn - if I had never clicked the link to this thread to watch all the wonderful stuff that's happening in here I would have never known that all the exciting paintings you did for the dsg were created with a mouse....and you only recently got your tablet!?!?
Some people can paint with a wet brick on dust while I couldn't even make use of an intuos3 properly... yet:twisted:
anyway, I really enjoy everyone's contribution! Always looking forward to your creative overflow. Thanks a lot.
*steps back in the shade*

one day, so i thought i'd try to imitate it.
just for clarification ganguro is japanese for one who is into
tanning salons, dying their hair and into fashion/make-up
not bad for a 14 yr old? ._.

01-16-2006, 12:39 PM
Hi there, I'm new to posting around here though I have been lurking and admiring the excellent works for a few months. Anyway I'd like to get in on the action so here are a couple of pics I made while experimenting with painter's liquid ink and my old wacom intuos 4x5; they were about half an hour each.
I hope to post a bit more around here though I don't think I'll be able to keep up with the rate at which some of you guys work.
01-16-2006, 01:29 PM

01-20-2006, 01:04 AM
This looked like a fun thread. I'm blown away by most of it, but I thought I'd give it a shot. I started just with a red canvas and started scribbling with green and then saw this form take shape and went with it. Now my 30 minutes is up...
Man, weird things come out of my head.

01-21-2006, 12:26 AM
Uh...1 hour. This is good excercise for me. I am inspired by the lighting in M@'s work and working quickly really makes me strip things down to the bare shapes and colors...to focus more on composition than details (which is where I get bogged down).
Vizon> nice image, got nice character
ZEDYANG> great, isnt that Batistuta in his days at fiorentina... class
PS 3 hrs (hoping my speeds will get a little more speedy as my workflow develops)
M@ keep em coming! Amazing stuff!

Oh and Augustus - I like how you created such a lovely lady with such loose, easy strokes! And same for Andyonahill.
And yes, Goro's is amazing too. I like the pink glow on the ear - skinny little guys' ears often stick out a little further and they do glow in the right light, ha ha. He has such character...I am envious. :)

just something that came up, it almost look like a rabbit... that wasn't really the purpose though ;), and funny stuff KDW.
And don't ask me how the hell his right arm goes that way ;)

Ooooh pretty Audit! Beautiful.
And I have to say also that SquarePixel's city scribbles are astounding and brilliant. I feel incapable of creating such dynamic structures so I'm extra impressed by people who make it look so easy!
KDW - REALLY nice coloring and shading, but her chest looks a little strange to me - almost like her breasts are flat and coming off her shoulders. Did you use a reference?
01-26-2006, 10:53 PM
audit - stunning.. really
01-27-2006, 12:10 AM

Hi everybody, I've been lurking on these forums for a long, long time now and finally decided to post something..
Since It's my first attepmt to do something else than just doodling with the tablet I recently bought, I'd realy appreciate your comments and crits..
Thank you in advance, you guys rock big time.
About me - no artistic background what so ever and well over 10 years since me and my pencil were getting along  ..
Used to love drawing back when I was a kid, but It's been quite a while I guess..
However, I painted that in Artrage in an hour and a half (just a wild guess here, kinda lost track of time) and called it "Down by the water's edge", after the eponimous song of Jude Johnstone(this lady has a remarkable voice).
P.S. Pardon my poor English..
here it is, no references used if anyone cares..
nice stuff guys! Goro ^^ great pic! the water is too bright tho...

This one goes out to all of you guys and girls..
So much tallented people around here, RESPECT ..
It took me roughly 3 hours to complete in Photoshop CS, so I guess it's not quite a speedy, but I couldn't think of a better place to post it..
Used some of Goro's brushes, allthogh they definitely could be put to better use (good work buddy  )
Hehe, that's actually my second post here in two days, I think I'm becoming an addict..
Too bad I don't have enough time to do that more often, but I promise I'l try to keep up..
