wow that looks great! nice style and very good animation. *****

11-10-2004, 06:08 PM
great work ... liked it a lot.

the story is a bigh laugh, and technicaly it is really appealing ... hope you make frontpage

11-11-2004, 01:23 AM
Wow, that was just beautiful! I can't believe you did that with combustion. Triple-A!

11-11-2004, 02:37 AM
Good job just thought i d mention that its in the wrong forum. MAybe a mod would kindly move it to the 2d forum. Anyway great work.

11-11-2004, 09:30 AM
maybe a mod would kindly move it to frontpage

11-11-2004, 10:05 AM
Thank you very much

For them who likes the look of "Poules Quiès" : you can find some cg paints I did with almost the same style (with combustion too) on my website :)

BESTrin : For me this was the right forum because it's an animation (finished work 3d and animation). The other one is "2d, illustration, concept art" not animation. But If a moderator think it's bettter in the 2d section it's ok.

edit : wow so many faults, never write something when you just woke up.

very good job :bounce:

11-11-2004, 01:09 PM
hahaaaa! that's so funny and well done. I loved the style and the fresh story!

11-11-2004, 04:47 PM
Wow, very good
What i especially liked was the first scene we see the farmer. The timing there is great

11-11-2004, 05:16 PM

verY GOOoood! ==> in portuguese = Muito BOM!

11-11-2004, 06:37 PM
Thank you all ! =D

yodimus : It's fun to see which part everyone prefers. I have noticed than many animators prefers to same part as you for exemple.

11-11-2004, 10:00 PM
Dude this rocks! Love the style and the quirks of the animation, and to do it all with combustion is stunning! I'd have torn my hair out long ago ;)

Another vote for front page here and a big 5 stars for you!

btw my favourite bit was after the credits at the end

11-12-2004, 01:12 AM
I allready said you in french i love it ! :D

11-12-2004, 05:20 AM
The animation and timing were spotless. An amazing accomplishment, no matter what tools you used.
I noticed the farmer character's design kind of changed in the middle of the story. I suppose it had to... in order to show some more facial expression. Still, a little wierd. I thought he was cooler and more stylish as nothing but a silhouette.

In conclusion, Wow. An inspiration: I want to do 2d again!

11-12-2004, 08:13 AM
An enjoyable story and great animations.
Excellent work.:applause:

11-12-2004, 10:19 AM
Mattmos : I assure you I really lost some hairs when doing this ;) Some parts I thought easy were the most hard to do (and vice versa). For exemple the first shot with the farmer was pretty easy to animate but the shot when the chicken comes inside and show the paper to the others chickens was harder to find a nice timing .

HenningK : For the design and colors change of the farmer you are right it's a bit strange but I couldn't do it another way.
If I chose to always use the "close-shot design" (with the facial+different color for the head) it would take me longer to animate and because the background was pretty the same color than his skin in many shots his head would "disappearded".
And in the another hand if I used the silhouette version I would have some big problems in the close shots.
("I want to do 2d again" : yeah 2d rules :buttrock:)

Thank you poeple for all these really kind comments.

11-12-2004, 05:39 PM
Great!
Nice style and great to see some good 2D animation here.

11-12-2004, 05:54 PM
Totally fantastic! I love seeing some great 2D stuff here. Congrats on all the work you put into this, it really shows.

Edit: watched it four times now, gets funnier each time!

11-12-2004, 06:35 PM
That was absolutely great!

Lovely style, I though the whole torn paper look was brilliant.
As said earlier, the Farmer changing style halfway through was a little strange and would maybe have been better silhoutted all the way through.
Fantastic all the same.

11-12-2004, 06:36 PM
Perkele, that was genial. Fun, and greatly animated.

11-12-2004, 07:02 PM
Fantastic. Very well done and refreshing style.

11-12-2004, 07:36 PM
No comment.... everything look good to me ...Its really cool to see great 2d animation here with a nice style like that... Good job !

11-12-2004, 08:17 PM
very well animated :applause:

11-12-2004, 08:42 PM
One of the most enjoyable shorts seen in al loooong time! Really awesomely great stuff!!! The style and the story; both just GREAT! I wonder; would you recomment using Combustion on this type of animation, or did you use Combustion only to get a challenge for youself? :bounce:

Happy to see its plugged,

11-12-2004, 08:50 PM
that was good shit. i got so excited as to what music you were gonna use for the oncoming death metal assault . it worked out good. :applause:

11-12-2004, 09:18 PM
Haw haw! RIOT!!

what a great hand-drawn style, very refreshing. the timing was spot on. Great!

11-12-2004, 11:03 PM
I did realy enjoy to see it. The style was superb and the strory was good to. Excellent job!!

I did check your site...good stuff. I realy dig the "dust meeting":D

11-12-2004, 11:06 PM
my favorite part was when the waveform plucked the earplug out of the chicken's ear. That was awesome. The style was great...I couldn't figure out how on earth you got that look till I read you did it with vector paint. The movements are so clean it almost looks like cell-shaded 3d...but it still has the 2d personality. excellent work man.

11-12-2004, 11:14 PM
Antropus : YEAH FRONTPAGE ! Thank you. I made a screenshot to remember this moment when I'll be grand'pa saying to my grand-childrens "This, this was when I was on frontpage on cgtalk when we used a keyboard and a mouse to draw things on a monitor" and my grand childrens thinking "what ? a key... keyboard ? Muahahahahahahah"

Doug nicola and squeeze : It's true there is not so much 2d animation on this forum. I had animated a little in 3d before this short but I wanted to experiment a little with 2d. Finally I learnt a lot in animation with this and many things I can easily transpose to 3d.

Dutchman : I used Combustion because
- I used it before for some projects as just a compositing program but I already played a little bit with the vector paint tool.
- I like how it works (It was pretty easy to do animation with it).
I continue to use it for CGpaints for exemple (many of the cg paints on my website are made with combustion).

M@ : Kiitos paljon !
Thanks a lot to all of you

11-13-2004, 12:29 AM
i told you this befor and i will say it again, those chickens are RAD!!

people, you have to check out the fly animation he has in his site, great style achieved in that one too.!!

11-13-2004, 12:56 AM
What can I say, apart from brilliant! I kept watching it over and over again. It is really great the style is real cool and the animation is awesome, the timing is perfect and works really well telling the whole story. I really like the farmer character and the style given to him, mainly that first drinking part, so obnoxious and you don't like him from the start, its great.

11-13-2004, 12:56 AM
hahahah Death Metal Express!!! that is excellant! Your timing is impeccable. It is really good to see your very simple yet refined style on this is badly needed. What did those chickens stick in their ears??? Was that hay?? perhaps earwax? I like it whatever it is. Excellant work. Please keep us tuned as to what you do next.

11-13-2004, 05:02 AM
Is Funny. Is great style. Lovely simple camera.

11-13-2004, 06:26 AM
hehe... cute. :)

11-13-2004, 08:59 AM
Lol great job. Very close to a style I was experimenting with using after effects/combustion. I hope to see more of your work in the future.

11-13-2004, 09:40 AM
Bon fait!

I really like it. How long did it take you?

11-13-2004, 11:14 AM
This is the best 2D cartoon I've seen on the web!! Simple story, but still funny. Really good animation everywhere. I also liked where you put your name, very nice. You don't know what your looking at until the chicken comes up. Hilarious.

BTW: Whoo's hosting your file? That was like a 3 minute download for that huge file.

11-13-2004, 11:30 AM
I like it very expressive. And I notice a great sense of editing. Those short dynamic shots add to the expressivity of the whole. I especialy like how you edited the end.

Keep it up. and good luck on your quest for a job :)

11-13-2004, 11:37 AM
great story, great animation. congrats. pro stuff! :D

11-13-2004, 01:20 PM
Thanks a lot folks =)

Bluebird2602 : yes it's hay ;)
Propictales : about 4 or 5 month.
Runyon : --> PM

11-13-2004, 01:20 PM
LOL what can I say, great animation. It's a simple story but really funny you got the timing right and I love your style.
I couldn't have animate it in Combustion, you did everything in Combustion?
It's really cool to finally see a 2d animation on this forum

11-13-2004, 02:28 PM

i like it a LOT. the animation and the editing is great! the story is the weakest point i think. i love the whole thing nonetheless.

11-13-2004, 02:28 PM
Lovely style and animation, I think the editing made it look as 'professional' as it did. Excellent work. :)

11-13-2004, 02:31 PM
Nice, good to see a fresh style like that used for animation.

Like other have said the comic timing was spot on :)

11-13-2004, 02:33 PM

i loved your animation so much that i had to post a reply... short, simple and yet beautifully stylised and very funny story... i love it... i've been watching it over and over again... and i'm going to show it to all my friends... brilliant stuff...

11-13-2004, 06:40 PM
Great humor! Love the animation and atmosphere.

11-13-2004, 10:50 PM
Excellent job on this I love the character animation and the way you have brought these simple shapes to life with some brilliant natural animation work. Great story too that welds it all together into a fantastic short.

Top work.

11-14-2004, 03:58 AM
style - simple and original - very succesfull

timing - precise

soundeffects - again simple and very effective.

A simple and nice story with great realisation.

11-14-2004, 07:24 AM
Haha! That was great! I was cracking up through the entire thing. As others have said, great timing. Keep it up.

11-14-2004, 10:51 AM
Great and funny. I think everyone says its a great achievment with the tools u used. I liked it alot nice one!

11-14-2004, 11:25 AM
Thanks ppl

If you read this before downloading : Don't download it yet or stop it. I just realized I made a little mistake in the names at the end, it's not "" but "". I feel so dumb to have made such kind of a mistake :banghead:. I'm currently uploading the "patched" version.

edit :
All mirrors "patched"

11-14-2004, 02:11 PM
toutes mes felitations pour la frontpage

11-15-2004, 09:16 AM
good i like the color

11-15-2004, 09:51 AM

11-15-2004, 12:15 PM
Great style, I really like it. Keep up the good work!

11-15-2004, 01:20 PM
very poule !!!

je veux dire...

11-15-2004, 01:44 PM

Baby : HAahhahah... joli ! :D

11-15-2004, 06:15 PM
great piece! and...

i love the metal! :buttrock:

11-15-2004, 08:41 PM
Wow!!! totally awesome :D

I absolutely love that art/animation style. Very kooky, right up my alley :)

those chickens are absolutely hilarious :D
and your sound guy did a kickass job!!

I do agree with HenningK though ... the design of the farmer should change a little less... i suppose ...

otherwise, very impressive!

This is better than some stuff I've seen on TV :applause:

11-22-2004, 07:09 PM ! Poules Quès is in the CG CHoice Gallery.

Everything accelerated in my life when I posted this short on the net. I've got 1 interview for a job (but I continue searching anyway, I received so many nice comments about my short, frontpage on cgtalk and now CG choice award gallery. And I just heard Poules Quiès is selectionned at "E-magiciens" (a french festival) !

I'm so happy now, there is no smiley with a smile as big as mine now.

Congrats! Hope you make more shorts like these in your spare time, so we can enjoy em. :)

11-30-2004, 11:01 AM
I'm back from the E-magician festival. Poules Quiès was projected in the "best of" section. It received an awesome ovation from the spectators. Thanks to them (and you cgtalk readers).

Baby : Yeah, bananas rocks. I promise I'll put some bananas somewhere on my next short (or maybe I'll do a short anlyabout bananas :D). Thank you for the award !

m@ and cksdayoff : Thanks :)

12-09-2004, 05:06 PM
I got it to work. brilliant man, love it, makes me want to experiment with 2d.

I got it to work. brilliant man, love it, makes me want to experiment with 2d.
Thanks !

I was checking the mirrors (because your post before editing). The mirror 4 is completly down. They removed completly the files, maybe they thought it was some sort of illegal video

I'm now working on a little DVD with animated menus, maybe a little making-of and a "secret bonus" ( :D)... just for fun.

12-09-2004, 07:00 PM
The drawing style, the animation, and the overall art concept really liked to me , but the story it's just anecdotic, and remembers me others like the video "black or white" of Michael Jackson and so.

12-13-2004, 05:13 PM
A DVD? that would be so cool. I'll bet you would be great in a team project, considering how long that took you to make and the quality and effort you put into it. Have you ever considered getting together with a group and creating a longer film?

01-05-2005, 06:34 AM
haha I've seen this on another forum. Watched it again ;)

01-09-2005, 03:20 AM
That has one of the best looks of any animated short I have seen in a while. Absolutely a joy to watch. It is definitely the look of this film that stands out and makes it extra special!

04-02-2005, 12:31 AM
WOW dude! I've just seen your film and i admired  It's style, it's story, it's character, it's timing etc. :) I'm really happy for a 2d animation's taking a lot of reply in a world that full of people who think traditional is going down, after seen your film (wow! this was a loong and hard sentence). I hope you find the job you like. And i hope your motivation takes you to better better better projects.:applause:
Note: my favorite scenes on timing are chickens running away to their coop :scream:
Keep good working

05-09-2005, 03:52 PM
this animation is great! i wonder why this post is in a 3d gallery...
anyway your animation style is very cool! well done!
