Latest Update: Modeling: The Cage - Composition (

This is the Platform and the Core combined in a huge mesh called The Cage.
The previous Helix was the twisted version of this Cage. Im not sure if i want to twist this one.

Hi all,

Im a new guy in town wanting to drop a pic or two. I am still boiling the noodles to figure out a concept of my epic.

I think I am to exploit the 'the fate of the civilization hangs by a thread'. The overall composition should be a deciding moment in a deciding event. Full of tension and suspense.

Most probably will include a duel or two with a supreme figure of the two great civilization to decide the fate of each other's survival amidst an epic cosmic battle.

Inspired when listening to 'Duel of fates' - Phantom Menace OSD.

Wish me luck!:scream:

11 November 2004, 05:08 AM
Welcome, and good luck to you maranello55! Looking forward to seeing what you come up with. Great peice of work by Williams - that 'Duel of fates'. I was listening to "Hook" when I joined the "Challenge" and was so inspired, so I know what you mean.

11 November 2004, 07:05 AM
Thanks for the welcoming note Daniel!

I am still working on the concept sketch while listening to the OSD. Just trying to get the spirit of the song into the composition but hopefully not the movie images. I dont want people to say that - Oh this is Obi Wan and Darth Maul thing - :scream:

We'll see!:)

Welcom To The Challenge

11 November 2004, 07:28 AM - Thank you for the welcoming note. Im still currently working on my concept.

I think the background story is going to be in a galactic scale (wHOA...thats a suprise!! ). The final scene should be depicting

1-the event horizon before the pivotal moment takes place - to give a sense of everything in one composition-hope, suspense, awe, tension at a very grand scale.

2-the aftermath of everything - depicting despair, lost, destruction or - victory and glory.

I think the 'Duel of fates' really fit into number 1.:)

The composition i think is going to be both of a large scale ships and all the space stuffs at the background and also in the foreground is the smaller scale duel of important characters which somehow will decide the fate of the event. Big conflicts always been decided by smaller events such as a duel.

Just trying to figure out what to do before getting into the modelling and stuff!

11 November 2004, 05:26 AM
I was looking for insiprations and i went to the 'Inspirations' section in the CGChallenge page and I found this

"There are few authors that can create races such as the Xeelee who build structures not from planets, or suns, or even solar systems, but from myriads of galaxies!"

Imagine how BIG that can be? I think thats gonna be my reference scale for my entry instead of interplanetary battles or space battle. This is going to be intergalactic. :scream:

Hi all,

After all the job is out of the way...I can sit down and do some crap to be posted here.

Here is the first one....Its a pic of a nebula that I am going to reproduce as the matte background for my 'opera'. Far at the nebula.....Trilions and trilions of light years away, there can be seen the clouds of devastation of the fate of a ancient civilization that can be seen from the viewer. Of course the space that the viewer is looking at is the sky trilions and trilions of years ago while the real ancient civilization is long long gone.

It is the background story, also, for the battle scene. More on that later.

Rite now...cant wait to post!

Err...How come I cant post attachements??

11 November 2004, 08:12 AM (

11 November 2004, 08:14 AM (

This is where the final 'Duel of fates is going to take place with the nebula as the background.

11 November 2004, 08:18 AM (

This is one of the thing that is going to be in the scene...THis dock is gonna be attached on a huge 'Cage'....(See next post)

11 November 2004, 08:20 AM (

Here showing the structural member of 'the Cage'.

It is huge space structure (orbital maybe) that form a shape the might define the adjacent fabric of space itself.

11 November 2004, 08:51 AM
looks nice and seems to "work"

maybe you want to use a pair of these next to each other.

I like the idea... can't wait to see you will make this scene!
good luck!

11 November 2004, 09:07 AM
Thanks Lehmi..I think its because of my architectural background that make me do things that visually work at least. But i think it is mostly irrelevent in this contest. I have to train myself not to think to much if something should work or not. :scream:

All the best!

11 November 2004, 09:47 AM
Just dropping by to say I like your overall plan, and the look of your work looks to be quite a nice start Nazirull...........By the way.....I am an architect myself.........I think with people such as ourselves it can be extra difficult to actually try and create crooked lines,or mess models up,after years of being so very precise the freedom of CG art is almost too difficult to follow.........There is so much freedom, that it's hard to set your thinking to this.........I still think it's always a good idea to make your creations as believable as possible still,if you have this ability you should use it.As I see you are............Taking shortcuts are always easy, and they show in the work when used.............

Anyways................I like your entry,it's got a nice look and I think will be interesting to follow................All the best to you.....:arteest:

11 November 2004, 01:13 PM
hey nice modleign starts man.. keep up the good works... wish u all the best

11 November 2004, 02:40 PM
Micheal - Its an honor to have you dropping by! Im glad that you like my plot (its gonna be explored more later). Like you have said, i surely agree that it takes some getting used to, to this freedom modelling in this manner.
This is only my second contest after recently finishing my first one which is the Architectural Wonder Contest at ( It is still under judging.:) you have an architectural site of yours that i can see??:bounce:

overcontrast - Thanks man! I hope i can post my progress but there is a problem with posting wip even Dimitri is having it too! So far I only know that only us two is having it...i dunno if others having it too??:scream:

11 November 2004, 01:27 AM (

11 November 2004, 01:33 AM
Thanks for those guys who worked for the servers to be back online!!

11 November 2004, 06:13 AM
Impressive your work, Maranello...I like the Helix's something so vital. Reminds me the DNA. Great my friend.
Thank a lot for your compliments...I can't join with all of you here because I'm finish my car for the close deadline that I have. Maybe next time...

Don't worry somethimes I'll visit this formative entries for supporting you, so have a good work and good luck!

11 November 2004, 08:37 AM
the helix is looking ultra cool.. simple yet very detailed...

11 November 2004, 10:39 AM

nice work! Im glad you have a sence of humour, but the concept is great, the building blocks of life...

You can make the texture heavy at the bottom, weathered even and fade it at the top,

A stainless steel texture would not weather as much as a bronze, or Iron texture in reality that is......

11 November 2004, 11:38 AM
nazirull..................very interesting,I like the massive or grand approach, but the fresh design too makes this an interesting entry.......i like the clean mesh work, the details too are on a higher type level, and the whole idea if fresh.......Keep at it,this will be interesting to follow and see it progress................Go at it hard and strong............:arteest:

11 November 2004, 05:32 PM
speedline - Nice to see you here! If you have some spare time, you should enter this contest. Its kewl. Its a good exposure to me after the Architectural Wonder Contest a couple of weeks ago. It is the DNA! Thanks for the kind comments doode!

Versiden - Thanks man...adding some detail on that one soon.:)

patina - Thanks pal! I could use the materials and the fading effects that youve suggested. But Im planning to make this helix a floating entity or like a spaceship. So it has no upright orientation. Like a gyroscope maybe....yeah..hehehehe

Virtuoso - Micheal, you are too kind with on me. Heehhe:D Im trying to squeeze in some NURBS into my entry since the whole idea of me entering this challenge is to LEARN. Hope it will turn out not as your dissapointment.:) Thanks again!

11 November 2004, 04:12 PM (

An update on the platform model. I think the final platform for the duel is gonna be more special than this. Look out for updates!

11 November 2004, 04:14 PM (

Since the cage has been twisted to be the Helix....the rail has been distorted abit. So obviously the Starship Dock has to be changed.

11 November 2004, 04:16 PM (

The updated Starship dock. But the cables connecting it is too short. Well, thats my first NURBS curves if dont believe me!! Thanks Lemog!

11 November 2004, 04:40 PM
Why u use the cable? Can't u use a radio-frequency transmition between them?
If the cable is the solution I think you must torque them on a spiral shape.
Go further...keep the good work.

11 November 2004, 04:35 PM
Yeap..I was thinking about that as well.. an advanced civilization should be wireless...I agree...more on modelling later....

I am workin on the story behind my entry. A story might give myself and other enthusiam to see more. (I think.... )

11 November 2004, 12:55 AM
You have some very nice modelling going on here, I love the attention you're giving to details. I'm quite eager to see how this will turn out in the end.

Overall a very nice job, keep going ;)

11 November 2004, 01:29 AM
Thanks Baal,:)

I just pick up polygonal modelling...and trying to catch up with some NURBS. But i think wuts important now is the storyline....ive got to have a storyline!:bounce:

Im struggling to dump this model into my composition (which is non-existant for now). We'll see..:bounce:

11 November 2004, 01:41 AM
Keep it coming Nazirull.........I like what i see on many fronts.........Hey wireless or wires,it's your World, your vision,no rules here.....:arteest: ..........I'll look for more on story and eye candy,so bring it fellow Architect..............:arteest:

11 November 2004, 09:51 AM
Hey Maranello...come on yor work is great and I think your story will be GREAT!! It's normal that anyone want to do the best and here man you are the best!!!

Remember nothing is by your mind the storyline wants to come out!!!And you'll do my friend!!!

11 November 2004, 12:59 AM
I like the space view, it's GREAT!... I'd like to see more of the machines

11 November 2004, 11:40 AM
Oh, original stuff here... sculptural and architectural in a way, with an undeniable sci-fi twist (particularly the helix of course.... helix - twist... get it? har har)... Solid stuff, looking really good - work harder and faster now, less than 50 days left :scream:

11 November 2004, 12:33 PM
Interesting stuff you got there man, nothing to fault you on. I agree with JamesMK though, time's running out for all of us!

12 December 2004, 01:50 AM
Thank you all for the kind comments....:D

Virtuoso - Yup..I guess ure rite...Im trying to do more eye candy than design things to make them work. Only to make them look as if they work is ok enough i guess...Yeah! Its my world! Its mine to build! That is a liberating statement micheal....

speedline - Thanks speedie...Youre always kind with your words. Im thinking that there is gonna be NO STORYLINE. I want it to be like in the museum......You see an painting of an epic and wonder what happened in the painting and wonder who the characters are and what they do in their lives. You guys gimme the storyline!:D

penumbrae - Thanks man! more is coming soon!:bounce:

JamesMK - I get your twist.. (har har). Im trying my best to squeee this entry in between those jobs! This is only my second CG contest so far.....Just want to post something. Important thing is for me to learn out from the talented people in here.:bounce:

keetmun - Thanks man! I'll try my best!:p

12 December 2004, 07:46 AM
How could we help you...mmm. Give us some suggestions that you have in mind.

I could tell what I'm seeing. You have some forms like DNA and some mechanical systems. Why don't you think that like an emulation of the Human Civilization? A parallel world with the same biological rules that wants to prevail on it: the perfection of the white machines against the blue intelligence of the earth.
Just a suggestion, maybe I'm in a wrong way and I'm not helping you! Sorry

12 December 2004, 08:23 AM
Just dropping by Nazirull to let you know I am waiting for that update........No pressure mind you......;) ;) :arteest:

12 December 2004, 09:05 AM
That is a very interesting beginning !
I'm waiting the updates...

Good luck !

12 December 2004, 10:14 AM
Hey speedie....dont say sorry...actually i would want to do that...but I just want to go with the flo right now. I welcome suggestion so very much especially from you my fren.

Your suggestion sounds pretty much like The Matrix but im currently thinking of how to make something big and really really big!

When Virtuoso drop by your thread and says betta come up with something before his next post....otherwise... Joking fren:scream:

Thanks for dropping by Deadly Force!

Here are some updates!

12 December 2004, 10:17 AM (

I think I should dump more detail into the platform...the previous one looks too solid and boring.

12 December 2004, 10:18 AM (

A small section of the Core joining with the Platform

12 December 2004, 10:22 AM (

This is the Platform and the Core combined in a huge mesh called The Cage.
The previous Helix was the twisted version of this Cage. Im not sure if i want to twist this one.

12 December 2004, 04:09 AM
huge effort of modeling there maranello:scream: your inspiring! keep up:thumbsup:

12 December 2004, 05:33 AM

12 December 2004, 11:54 AM
Thats some excellent large scope modeling with some nice details Nazirull.........I really appreaciate the attention to accuracy and details here..........I dont think a twist is needed, unless of course you just feel like twisting.........Really nice effort and results.....keep it going,Looking very nice............:arteest: :arteest:

12 December 2004, 12:26 PM

12 December 2004, 07:17 PM
