11 November 2004, 04:19 PM

'bout 30 mins extra work

11 November 2004, 04:26 PM
Hey KieronH thats a good idea. My 'sea dog' from No.151 could do with some colour too!

11 November 2004, 04:48 PM
Cyanid, good job!

11 November 2004, 05:48 PM
art2 let it come!

Here is my entry

11 November 2004, 06:06 PM
Cool entries guys!

By the way, everyone feel free to use any pics of me. I don't mind at all if people overpaint one of em. I think overpaintings are a good way to have a different look on your own work. I for one enjoy a good paintover.

Lets keep an open mind about this one

11 November 2004, 06:40 PM
sketch 'burnout' ( some robot

sketch 'samurai' ( 01

sketch 'samurai' ( 02

sketch 'battle angel' ( manga style babe...

sketch 'someones trash...' ( junk-bots

sketch 'speed' ( samurai fight

Have fun guys, just mention me as the penciller ;) , please.

... hope there's something there for the girls ...
If you girls like to do something cute (I'm not stereo-typing you ;) ),
let me know... but those are not DSG sketches.

11 November 2004, 06:42 PM
That is an excellent job Goro!

11 November 2004, 06:43 PM
very good idea, even if what I'm seeing and reading seems like a "paintover collaboration" rather than a "paintover battle"...I was expecting something like erikoinen and mustardwash's battle (I dont know if you have seen it) made massive... both ideas sound good

11 November 2004, 07:08 PM
If someone wants to put some color on these, I'd be honored:

DS 21: Mexican UFOs (
DS 123: Girl with Guns (

11 November 2004, 07:37 PM
Wow... nice paintover Goro.... and I'm honored you chose mine to use! You definitely created the atmosphere well in the distance, which I didn't spend any time towards (but should have.) Great color pallete too.

I'm going to do one of the ones Art2 posted... probably "speed" Lots of opportunity to use the color crimson in that one  Just have to find time today since I will also be seeing the Incredibles too.

This is a great idea ... Looking forward to seeing everyone's entries!

11 November 2004, 08:16 PM
the original is samurai no.2 from art2's links.

if someone is interested in the .psd to finish it or create a BG, contact me, then I will host it shortly

edit: did some more painting... sorry for posting wip

11 November 2004, 10:12 PM
Sorry KieronH, was trying to get a sunset effect but didn't really turn out right!
Can anyone mention any good techniques for painting distant, wide, flat and broken up clouds??

Thanks for the tip Supervlieg, I think it looks stronger now.

11 November 2004, 10:28 PM
Art2: thanks for the fantastic pencil sketches! hope I did "junk-bots" justice :D

Open Canvas 1.1 and PSP7 for the text and layering
3 hours I think.. too busy having fun to notice the time lol

11 November 2004, 10:45 PM

Decided to paint one of Goro's great pics. Not trying to improve (that would be hard), just trying another mood for it. I'll tweak it a bit more tomorrow, Im not quite happy with some details and the tree on the right side.

Deaderthenred: Great coloring!
Pistenbully: Nice start. Maybe you should try more dramatic highlights on the guys.
Cyanid: Good one, a little bit color would bring it more to life imo.

11 November 2004, 10:46 PM
WOW! REally nice job, deaderthanred!! :buttrock:

11 November 2004, 10:53 PM
Supervlieg! That is awesome. (Y)
I like it. Red to blue.

11 November 2004, 10:57 PM
Hi guys Some nice paintovers..
Mines a real quick one.. not really a paintover as much as it was a paint under. lol
30min photoshopCS

Good job Kirt. :)

11 November 2004, 11:14 PM
Michele : hot damn!! You just blew me away girl!!:bounce::love::buttrock::applause::drool:
Cyanid : Good job mate! Now do the other one in daylight and give it some background (please, please)

SuperV : from hell to paradise, excellent!

All you guys just got me so very excited!

Think I'm gonna do Kirt's UFO sketch... this should be fun.

11 November 2004, 11:16 PM
AsurA. Nice work!

11 November 2004, 11:29 PM
Art2, Cheehad: Thanks!

11 November 2004, 11:39 PM
Just concentrating on colour is so helpfull, normally I get distracted by other aspects of the painting.

Deaderthanred - those subtle colours are beautiful! Love the subtle echo of the colours in the background too.

Supervlieg - like the shift in mood.

Asura - Great palette. I know from trying and failing that its harder than it looks.

11 November 2004, 11:45 PM
I used one of Art2īs sketches but I didnt make justice to the linework.
I got my wacom 3 days ago so im just learning how it works.
I had really fun even though i just colored it.

About 45 minutes in painter IX with my wacom :D

Please criticize the little i have done on it.

EDIT: Now the image shuold be working.

11 November 2004, 11:49 PM
Supervlieg, robinayles, Art2, Pistenbully : thanks!! *blush!* tho it's mostly Art2's clearly-drawn sketch that was easy (and most fun!) to color :D

Pistenbully: it's looking great! try add some subtle shadows, tumble weeds and maybe dry leaves and it'll be awesome!
Supervlieg: nice conversion!
AsurA: blue hair rocks :)

11 November 2004, 12:44 AM
ok it isn't exactly fitting the topic but i had to do it :/

hmm about 20 min ...

11 November 2004, 12:56 AM
Damn this is a fun topic!

Thnx Art2 nice sketches btw!

Supervlieg hehe great one! Thnx for the paintover!

Cyanid your lighting get's better! Great work! now BG :)

Asura damn you where faster with kirt's sketch.

Hope you like it kirt

11 November 2004, 01:26 AM

11 November 2004, 02:00 AM
AsurA & Goro -

Most excellent coloring of my gun-girl. Thank you so much! Love the blue hair on AsurA's and Goro's shorts are drool enducing.

11 November 2004, 02:12 AM
"As the temple burned around him, the lone warrior continued to battle the assassins single handedly, with a speed that even gods would envy."

Props to Art2 for the mad pencil skills.

Way too long (1.5 hours?) in Photoshop with a Wacom.

Great paintovers everyone... looking great!

11 November 2004, 02:20 AM

Please criticize the little i have done on it. I had to rightclick save-as your image to view it.. somehow it does not load on click (just letting you know, as there might be some who could not view it to comment ;) ) I love the colors, but I think Art2 forgot to give the poor dude some longer pants  the skin colors need more tone and try more subtle color variation, but overall sweet work for starting out :)

Goro: awesome :applause:
DigitalSkunkwrx: looks like fun!

11 November 2004, 04:22 AM
I used Art2's Samurai01 line-art. The batik effect on the colorization of the warrior was actually a happy accident. I decided I liked it, so I kept it. Lost track of time while doing this, maybe 2 hours-ish in PS w/Wacom.

11 November 2004, 06:17 AM
hello everyone

i just painted over Cyanid's version of art2's samurai no 2.
photoshop 15 min.

11 November 2004, 07:48 AM
Thanx guys.. I wish i had more time today to do something more refined, but i guess it's better than nothing. It's fun colouring someone elses work. :)

-Very Nice job Goro,.

-1.5 hours isn't too long DigitalSkunkwrx, it looks nice..

11 November 2004, 07:50 AM
Cyanid : Good job mate! Now do the other one in daylight and give it some background (please, please)

I ran out of time, that was the problem... I wanted to work out this one more, but ...
I think I will do it tomorrow, I like the sketches very much.

Goro: great job, I like your lightning :applause: trying to learn from it.

mecos: a paintover from a paintover, that's cool ;) I like the artistic effect

11 November 2004, 11:05 AM
grillkungen: nice job! Pretty decent for a first time with the wacom!
gimmix: great job of turning a nice little girl to the inventor of Linux :P
Goro: that's sweet man
Digitalskunkwrx: awesome painover mate! Sh#t...
deaderthanred: hey that's a poor Ronin. He can't afford no pants... :)
robin: I really like your most original take girl!
macos: a paintover of a paintover, cool.
Cyanid: I'll be waiting in anticipation. Is it tomorrow yet?...

Thanks guys!! :applause:

11 November 2004, 02:12 PM
i was unsure what to do so i just tried to color one of art2's pics and fooled around a bit. nice pencil art btw.

11 November 2004, 04:43 PM
richd and grillkungen - both of you did really good jobs on the same samurai - SWEEEEET!
Art2 - thanks for the great line art and I appreciate the kudos!
DigitalSkunkwrx - really nice and moody, good job!
gimmix - cute and funny!
cyanid - that's one bad ass looking desperado! I also like the moody samurai
deaderthanred - yes Art2's lineart is fantastic...but you are the one who added the lightsource and color, truly outstanding!
AsurA - I already complimented your wonderful job - me likey!! :)
supervlieg - love the change from scary and threatening to the more pastoral looking scene! :)
mecos - I like your background for Samurai02 - but samurai almost gets lost in it, he should be larger I think
Goro - you are SO GREAT at this, Man! WOW - both of yours are fantastic...but the paintover of "girl with guns" is absolutely STUNNING!! WOW oh WOW!! :applause: Of course, the fact that Kirt's drawing was amazing to begin with is prob. a big help!

Excellent work folks!

NOTE TO ROBERTO: We should repeat this one sometime down the road, this was fun!

11 November 2004, 06:36 PM
4 hours with a mouse.

didn't have time to finish it yesterday, and it don't feel like it today so here it is

whadaya think?

11 November 2004, 08:58 PM
i'm sorry i posted so late. I didn't have time to finish it yesterday. I'm not completely satisfied but hey, at least i did it. And i'm really sorry for messing up the original line art:banghead:

Octothread: doing a Rasdasa, very cool.

Doh, well, I couldn't find the time to finish Kirts sketch properly.
Hope I can find some time in the comming days.

11 November 2004, 06:44 AM
Wow some really great work for this topic... definitely one that we should do from time to time.

I was watching some tv and messing around with OpenCanvas trying to get used to it and ended up doing another paintover. Since I don't have PS installed on this machine I couldn't resize it down from the original 1024 size, so I'm just posting the link.

About 2 hours (might have been three... attention was switching back and forth from the TV.)
OpenCanvas 1.1 / Wacom4x6

11 November 2004, 03:59 PM
Digitalskunkwrx: that's one hell of a job man! :applause: I really love to see you guys mess around with my drawings, really cool. You forgot to put your name on the paintover mate, everybody should know you did that! ;)

11 November 2004, 05:49 PM
Better late than never

paintover of art-2's BURN OUT, thank you for letting us use your work.

11 November 2004, 06:05 PM

I like the background very much.

11 November 2004, 02:42 AM
