here's a wireframe of that last image, the building is about 15,000 polys but it's early stages

Welcome to the challenge,dave...
Hope to see your first concepts.

thanks, I'm hoping to upload my first concept sketch sometime today, although I'm not sure it fits the theme 100% yet, I'll probably develop it into something better rather than start from scratch but who knows, there's still plenty of time left

ok so I'm not as good at sketching as other people here but I think this is good enough for a first concept. 2 planets collide in space and send down a rain of meteors on a futuristic city while people try and escape and are evacuated in huge transport ships. I'm not sure this fits the theme of the challenge very well so I'll probably change it a bit.

I think the idea suits the challenge. Maybe if the city looked more futuristic, it would look even better? Nice start!

thanks, the buildings closest to the camera are the outskirts of the city, I'm hoping to get a sort of 5th Element look to them, but as the buildings get further away towards the larger ons in the middle of the city they will become more futuristic looking

Great idea - I can imagine some of the buildings alreadly being shredded by debris, parapets falling, etc. I look forward to your progress.

I like the concept, It ca be a full of action scene with the meteor shower.
good luck

nice concept!
this will be a really apocalyptic scene.

Very cool theme. This concept allows some nice layering effects to build the depth and drama of the scene. Remember the poor old man and child on the streets of Bankok just a minute before the meteor shard impacts as seen in the "Armaggedon" feature film? Well, the audience could really relate to that moment, regardless of race or location. Perhaps in your foreground (the outskirts of the city you mention), is someone whom was too poor to make it onboard the shuttles quickly departing from Earth.

They also did a shot like this in Titanic, where a family huddles together in their cabin aboard the doomed ship as the icey cold water begins to rush in.

Cool concept, looking forward to your next post. :)

that's a brilliant idea, I'm definately gonna fit something like that in the scene

Great concept! Requires a lot of hard work:) But I especially like such projects. I agree with Daniel McMillan, good points made by him. I will watch you and hope to see some new pictures soon:bounce:

Nice Idea, Good LUCK!

here are the textures for the roof of the cab building that'll be seen at the front of the image, the colour map was done by taking a photo of some concrete that looked right and then painting and blending the rest over the top, the diffuse was just painted over a grungy sort of map I made

here's how far I got on the building

here's a wireframe of that last image, the building is about 15,000 polys but it's early stages

not sure if I'm gonna finish this one in time for the deadline, my computer's been giving me a lot of trouble, it's become really unstable lately and it took long enough just to model and texture the roof of the building there, I can't render it with nice lighting without my computer crashing

good excuse to buy a nice new machine though
