Decided the first concept didn't capture a epic moment. Now I have a whole backstory in my head. I'll put it up when I get some sleep. But the main idea.

Galactic government has just been established after thousands of years of wars.
Want symbol of government to last forever.
Capital is being constructed (dyson sphere).
Have been waiting for newborn star to ignight.
Birth of Star, birth of galactic union. Both will last for billions of years. (or will they?)

Anyway, the sketch is not much, but I think it could be a very epic moment. Camera angle will change once modeling begins.

This is the first shot at modeling my dyson sphere. Since the sphere will be in two parts, just modeling the top right now.

More to come soon. Modeling and Story.

looking good so far, but please, write the whole history , i didnt understand very well the new star thing ...maybe its just me :P

The Dyson Sphere is still being built, but it is almost finished. For two thousand years the galactic government has been constructing the sphere for the future seat of power. The protostar around which it is being built is in the middle of a nebula cloud. This nebula is a stellar nursery with new stars all around. Built in two parts, the Dyson Sphere sits above and below the accretion disk of the protostar. The protostar has been forming for millennia. Now for the first time the nuclear fires flash through the protostar creating a new star in the galaxy. A new solar wind will push the remaining gas of the accretion disk out of the system and allow the sphere to be completed. On this new day we hear the President of the League of Systems give a speech.

“This day has been coming since the beginning of time. For all of history our galaxy has seen war. Of all the thousands of planets that have spawned life, not one has escaped the horrors of battle. Before we discovered the stars, each of us fought among ourselves. Our differences divided us, and we tried to destroy the different ones. Then the first to venture into space pushed their advantage and tried to conquer or destroy new worlds. This was the Age of the Homeworld Wars. We may never know what advances could have developed out of the worlds that were lost. But our fear and paranoia knew no bounds. Our wars continued escalating in devastation with each advance. Systems that had lasted for thousands of millennia were swept from the galaxy.

But today is a historic day. Peace throughout the galaxy has lasted for two thousand years, rough at first, but it has continued to grow strong. The League of Systems began during the Second Age of the Galactic Wars. Seven systems allied themselves to help each other. Peace is never easy. But as the League of Systems grew so did our freedom to live in peace. All of us, one and all, can walk our worlds without the fear of fire raining down from above. Our children grow-up to contribute not to destroy. When the last system ratified our Constitution two millennia ago we truly knew peace and freedom. There have been many battles since, but they have all been the battle of ideas and words. Settled through negotiations and diplomacy.

And now on this historic day, The Day of Light, we celebrate our long history. We remember those that are no more. We remember where we could be if things had been different. The heights we could have reached; the terrors that would have transpired had we not chosen the path we did, the path we are on. With hope and resolve we witness the birth of a new star. We see a star that gives light to the League of Systems. We see a star that powers our government. We see a new star that will burn bright for ten billion years. Where will our civilization be then? Will our peace last? Will the Day of Light be celebrated then? Our hope is that it will. Our hope is that the League of Systems will be ten billion times stronger. And maybe our descendants will be looking for a new protostar for a new Age.”

That is the backstory for my entry. What do you think?

Hey! Hello! looking nice! Great story idea, very solid... Good luck and good job!

wow... i my story has 5 lines only :S

I really hated the first go at the Dyson Sphere. So I am working on a new one. But this new one has some problems too. Hopefully I will be able to work out a good design. But I'll post the second version soon.

Thanks to all for the support.

Okay here is the revision to the Dyson Sphere. I have already decided on some changes I am going to make. It will probably all change, but tell me what you think of this one.

No textures to speak of except glass and a temporary sun. Land and city will be under the glass.

the structure sorrounding the protostar is awesome! just a comment, i know its not complete, so maybe u had contemplated this idea, but havent done yet, but.. maybe, u can play a litte bit with colors inside. u know, there are incredible things in the outter space, we all have seen the hubble images, amazing, so i was thinkin, maybe u can put stardust, particles, nebulosas (i dont know if it says that way) with a lot of colors, have u seen the art of Greg Martin ( that maybe would explain better what im tryin to say..
but its only an opinion, maybe u want a more clean image, or had think this but u didnt do it yet

okz, greetings!

slick renders cool idea

WOW! Amazing render! Liked a lot the structure round the sphere! Keep it up!

Thanks everyone.

rashaverak: This was just a preliminary rendering. Yes the whole star system is inside a nebula, so lots of colors and clouds. Also I haven't finished the swirling disk around the star yet.

My problem right now is the program I'm working in has limited voumetrics. So I am fighting to fins a good way to produce the disk. And if you are wondering... I'm on a Mac and working in Strata 3D CX. Good program for rendering, modeling tools are lacking. But it's what I use at work for more architectural type renderings. I model at work in VectorWorks, a 3D CAD program. So, anyway all that is to say I don't know how well my voumetric aspects of the rendering will turn out. Keep checking back for progress.

hey, interesting concept.. seems quite nice and the latest render looks good.. have you considered trying different focal lengths or like a wider angle on the last view..?
