View Full Version : Grand Space Opera 3D Entry: Andrzej Sykut

10 October 2004, 05:30 PM
Andrzej Sykut has entered the Grand Space Opera 3D.

Challenge Page (

Latest Update: Final Image: done (

Added bit more of that blue tint - bit more means like 5-7 % ;). More seemed too much.

And now... that's it, it's final version :). Done. It was great fun, learned a lot. Thanks everyone for your support, comments and crits. 'Till the next time ;)

10 October 2004, 05:41 PM (

I'm polishing the story at the moment, but it'll most likely be something along the lines of 'Adventures of a space pirate' - that guy here ;). I doubt this will be completely serious... humour and space pirates mix quite well :)

Dimi: Thanks

And the face, for modelling purposes:

10 October 2004, 06:05 PM
I like it. I like it a lot. He looks intimidating, but at the same time like he could just start laughing and cracking up at any moment. The patches on the elbows of the space suit are a nice touch. I'll definately be watching to see what situation he ends up in.

10 October 2004, 06:12 PM
This character looks like it would be fun to texture. And the hair strands will give it a certain walrusy look.

10 October 2004, 06:16 PM

I am very happy to hear that, as that's how i want him to be :)

DigiLusionist: yep, should be fun. Thanks.

10 October 2004, 06:32 PM
Maybe his jaw is too big and without fat.
But the character is well builded
Good work.

11 November 2004, 08:47 PM
Kajaba: I want the 'jaw' to be more like loose skin - will fix that at the modelling stage. Thanks.

And now a bit of a background on our hero:
His name is Carharius Orholt, "Ori" among friends, "Fat bastard" among enemies.
Pirate, smuggler and heretic. Generally he tends to avoid the more populated regions
of the galaxy, as he's wanted for various offences in a few dozens of systems.
Not a very succesful pirate by today's standards - the more succesful ones quickly
made it to the various courts and governments. Ori, having serious authority problems,
is not the best suited for such life. He's quite content with capturing merchant vessels from
time to time, or attacking a battleship just for his pure entertainment...
especially after a beer or two. [Note: Ori is a H'araian, and this race has quite interesting regenerative
powers - growing back severed limbs takes time, but is not that uncommon among them. So odds of Ori surviving
such a dangerous lifestyle are slightly better than it seems]. In spare moments Ori writes a book about his adventures -
a book where everything is bigger, faster and more impossible than it really was.

More to come :)

11 November 2004, 09:07 PM
great concept! lighting and color scheme is cool too! :arteest:
keep it up! waiting for some modeling! :buttrock:

11 November 2004, 09:20 PM
hey Andrzej..................very nice design. This guy has fun and interesting written all over his ugly but in a strange way beautiful face............:arteest:

I look forward to some excellent 3D from you.And for your storyline.........Great to see you in now officially.......Oh fat folds over riding the muscles seems right for him.....Best of luck, have fun too..............:arteest:

11 November 2004, 09:54 PM
looks like a interesting fellow

good luck

11 November 2004, 03:53 PM
Nice concept on that creature . I look forward to see the main story brought to life.

My thread :

11 November 2004, 08:11 PM (

Still a bit to do: eyebrows, eyepatch, pipe, teeth, some scars maybe, and finally uv's... I think he came out bit too friendly.

As for the final image, i'm still considering few possible ways, so please be patient :)

11 November 2004, 08:14 PM
looking forward to the final product ! :D

11 November 2004, 08:32 PM
Looks great. Will probably be a fun final image!

The fat on the neck looks a bit like gils although... Maybe that was the intention?

11 November 2004, 08:39 PM
nice so far. I think, for getting a less friendly look, you should go for more wrinkles, eyes deeper into the orbits, and corners of mouth pointing downwards.
Keep it up!

11 November 2004, 08:43 PM
Gills. He has no nose, so he uses gills :) It'll make more sense with teeth ;) let's say he'll have a lot of 'em.

11 November 2004, 10:42 PM
very nice concept character, massive head.... love to see it with texture.

11 November 2004, 10:58 PM (

That's what he looks like with the teeth. Nice and friendly, but when he smiles, you know, better to ekhm... run away ....

11 November 2004, 10:59 PM
Nice.....I think he looks fine as he is.......A meaner version will never go as far as a more friendly one I think.......I think you can go with this,he still is a menacing sort, but has a gentle kind of good guy look.........Some thick poly whiskers and some wispy hair would go great with him too I might add.......Nice going Andrzej.................:arteest:

EDIT.......................I cant believe it.......You posted this last shot as I was posting, and there are the whiskers........great minds think alike you know......;) :arteest:

11 November 2004, 03:09 PM
heya azazel,
so glad to see you in! and I'm glad you are aiming for a humoristic concept, not alot of them in this challenge as far as I've seen.

a few things about your character that I noticed.
he looks a little to round, have you considered adding more angles to his face, a few straight "lines" would add alot. like, defining the jawbone and then have very thin parts of skin(like from ppl who where reaaally fat and then made a diet) hanging and flapping. almost like in the frontview concept.

also, I think it's a little bit strange to have skin going around the area where a nose is usually located, and then not having a nose. but, I think it would look even more strange not to have it like that. I really like the idea with gills instead. but it works better in the concept somehow, can't put my finger on it.

still I like him alot already, I would like to see a little more definition though. but, that might be personal preference, as with everything.

..I wonder what his IQ is..? ;)

11 November 2004, 03:34 PM
Thanks, guys.

Michael: No wispy stuff, to annoying to make, and i don't think it's really worth - i doubt there will be a closeup of the face... Curent poly hair is annoying also, but that has to stay...

Anders: Right. Some angles will appear, on eyebrows especially. As for iq, he does not have a banana instead of his brain, does he ? ;)

11 November 2004, 09:14 PM (

Made the jaw bit more angular, as the eyebrows. And details, eyepatch, pipe....

11 November 2004, 10:17 PM
the little shark-pipe is really nice little addition! and the jaw-change gave him more character imo.

a little thing, the eye-patch strap, can it really look like that? looks glued to his head. but I also see the problem in doing it the "right way".
pff, shitty little critic.. :D

looks great from this view, would be neat to see a few other views later when you feel ready.

11 November 2004, 02:03 AM
Great character. It's been fun watching the development of his personality through your modeling. I really like this latest pose with the pipe and all. I think his expression is saying a lot about who he is in a very clean and simple way. Very nice!

11 November 2004, 11:16 AM
Really like this azazel, that character has a great sense of fun somehow

11 November 2004, 10:01 PM
im really hapy that it's 3d :). not 2d, hehe
nice clean wire. maybe too clean. are you planning to use some kind of displacement, zbrushin or smth? or this character is too far too see that kind of detail?
and of course pipe is just zajebista. i can't wait to se the final scene with this guy.

11 November 2004, 10:25 PM
Anders: Yeah, eyepatch was not great, fixed it a bit... more angles will follow in a minute or two :)

Gary: Thanks

Brian: Thanks. It IS great fun to work with this character :)

Krzysiek: No displacement, just good old bump. And, it's likely the character won't be too big in final scene.

11 November 2004, 10:29 PM (

More angles, here the eyepatch is not yet updated (changes are not big anyway ;))

11 November 2004, 10:35 PM
WOW! Freakin' cool character yet! Awesome modelled! I'm really, really looking forward for more stuff! Keep feeding me ;)

Greetz & Good luck,

11 November 2004, 10:36 PM (

And a start of the body - some proportions may change a bit, but that's the general idea. Fists and shoes are placeholders for now, as without them proportions look 'screwed' :)

11 November 2004, 10:39 PM
I totaly like this guy....waiting to see more before i can give any pointers, up to now i really like him and also like your approach to the Space Opera theme...:bounce:

11 November 2004, 12:48 PM
Really cool memorable character. Excellent stuff.

11 November 2004, 07:51 PM
Very funny character !

Reminds me a little bit the villains in the show of the eighties "fraggle rock"

Good work.

11 November 2004, 07:51 PM
very friendly but dangerous and unpredictable. nice character

11 November 2004, 12:45 PM
Great Character
Nice

11 November 2004, 08:20 PM (

thanks guys, glad you like it :)

Texxx: hehe never ever heard of that show... ;)

11 November 2004, 08:32 PM
The character is great , He looks peaceful even with this agressive proportions.

11 November 2004, 09:36 PM
hehe never ever heard of that show... ;)
OMG! poor you..

excellent updates since last time i checked, no crits.
just dont stop, like m@ will..

11 November 2004, 10:12 PM
Witam Andrzeju,

Thats a cooool character you have here :D
I will follow this funny thread with attention, the humoristic way coud be a good idea
Good luck to you!!

11 November 2004, 11:13 PM
Now that i googled a bit for fraggle rock... i seem to remember something, but for sure it was called different here in poland.... anyway, i don't see that much similarity, but - if i could get a plush toy done of that pirate here, now that would be fun. More updates tomorrow, mainly detailing :)

11 November 2004, 11:27 PM
in poland "fraglesy" hehe. it could be similiar with big amount of long fur.
boots are fantastic. great job, don't stop!

11 November 2004, 11:49 PM
The character has so much stunning presence! Love the hands.:D

11 November 2004, 10:01 AM
Krzysiek: thanks, still, i don't remember that title, only some 'visuals' ;). Boots are greatly inspired by old diving boots with lead soles - it's likely there will be more details coming from that inspiration. I'm not stopping anytime soon, but shouldn't you post some updates of your entry ? :)

Martin: thanks. Hands you say... they were supposed to be gloves, so some tweaking is in order. I made them in that pose, as it's likely he will hold a gun or two, so i won't have to rig the hands.

11 November 2004, 01:54 PM
you are right, i should get back to post some in my own thread :) but currently i'm fightning with concept, the one in my head.

any way: here are the gorgs, from "fraggle rock", now when i see them, your fat guy is totally different.

and scuba style can be good idea...

11 November 2004, 09:59 PM
I Pray For You At all

11 November 2004, 09:49 PM
Very good character design.

11 November 2004, 09:56 PM
this is a great character, i especially like the pipe... i think sometimes a simple prop gesture to explain a persons nature gets forgotten, but you have shown here it really does work!

11 November 2004, 06:35 PM
Hi Andrzej! Nice character you got here. I saw hsi picture, and after this, I have read your description... I must say you have matched his appearance exactly with the description. What do you think of some sort of parrot on his shoulder?:) Not earth one of course, but in a similar style. I don't know in what situation you would like to place this gentleman, but i think that such a parrot would be a nice element, just as this pipe:thumbsup:

11 November 2004, 11:13 PM (

I spend last few evenings unwrapping him, and trying to find a gun design that'd fit him... not exactly happy eith tghe gun yet.

11 November 2004, 11:16 PM (

and just for fun, some uv's - i have to say uv mapper in wings rocks

I was thinking about either a parrot of some kind, or a little monkey :) But not sure if it'd fit the final image, so it'll have to wait a bit.

11 November 2004, 11:18 PM
Amazing character...i know's not the first time i say this....

11 November 2004, 12:57 AM
Frick. That guy is totally the best character i've seen in this compo thus far. Totally movie worthy. Kinda like a pixar version of a starwars character. Totally inspiring.

11 November 2004, 04:01 AM
Oh my god, that ROCKS!! Nice modeling man. Love the character and story. Cant wait to see a sketch of what the scene will look like. Deffinite winner potential here. peace and think grand!!

11 November 2004, 07:11 AM
I am Not Agree With The Gun
Other Are Very Great Model:thumbsup:

11 November 2004, 10:35 PM (

Since i also didn't like the guns... these ones seem to fit him better. I'm very happy you like him, means a lot to me. For a final scene, i'm thinking about some over-the-top action scene, like this guy here against something much much bigger, or maybe against multiple enemies. The fact that these new guns give him only four shots could make it look even more hopeless ;).

11 November 2004, 01:54 AM
I love your alien - just the sort of guy you'd find as a bouncer at the spaceport bar (though I'm sure he has a good heart and is kind to little aliens).

Can I put in a word for the earlier version of the guns though? Unless you're going to go for a really SteamPunk feel, I think rayguns are better suited to SPace Opera.

11 November 2004, 07:54 AM
hi azazel

amazing character, looks really great.
just a suggestion, make his belt a little wider and add some bullets to it.
would really like to see it with big bullets. or even some pockets on his belt.
He doesn't have any place to put the guns away, if he doesnt need them,
while driving a spaceship or whatever. Let him attach them with some magnets
to his pants or whatever :)
Oh...and if you want to add some mean character to it, add a scar under his
eye-patch. ok, the idea is a little....hmmm...overdone by now, i know, but
who cares ;)

keep up the great work, looking forward to updates

11 November 2004, 02:28 PM
Wow, really nice character. Great design. The second set of guns are great and suit him a lot better. He just needs somewhere to holster them now, don't know where though as i think a gun belt might spoil his suit.

Great work, nice job on the hands by the way, thats an area i always have trouble with but yours look great:thumbsup:

11 November 2004, 11:35 PM
wow.. that character kicks ass!... aweomse feel to it... and i like those guns... keep it up man

11 November 2004, 03:13 AM
absolutely fantastic character Andrzey !!!:thumbsup:
very, very expressive!!!
great work man!!! really great!!!
best of luck and cheers!

11 November 2004, 12:21 PM
Teapot-7: thanks. The previous guns were no rayguns - more like advanced looking blunderbuss. Some steampunk elements are likely to appear in final image, but not sure if i go totally that way.

Hasch2o, shoey: Bullets - yes, thay likely will appear. Holsters - that is another matter, they'd be bit too big, and typical belt holster can be a bitch to rig. Maybe something at the back - but not sure ;). Scar will come, i'll do it with a texture :).

overcontrast, greentek: thanks

11 November 2004, 12:44 PM
AMAZING character!!!

Man your modeling is excellent! I like it a lot!! :bounce:
Very nice style, and for the guns, i like the second one, they don't disturb me, also if it's space opera, some "relic" from the past can be easily merged with something a little more scfi...
Great render too!! I don't know if the question was already ask, but wish soft did you use?

But one more time : Nice Work i like it!!!

Waiting for update. :applause:

11 November 2004, 12:47 PM
the fatman , can i call him fatman ? :D , is coming great!

11 November 2004, 07:43 PM
THis model is just too cool. Love the character. Great progress, can't wait for the texturing.

11 November 2004, 08:22 PM
Aaaaaa haaa
This Is a Great Gun Hope See More And More of Him:thumbsup:

11 November 2004, 05:26 PM (

Added the bullets - they ideed fit him (although technically that kind of bullet would not fit his weapons - let's just assume it would;)). Ok, now no more of him until i have some concept of the final scene. Then i'll move to the texturing :) and rigging :(.

Edit: Thanks guys for your kind words. Model and UV is 100% wings3d, render is a quick radiosity setup in cinema4d (not so quick to render) - but radiosity is unlikely in final image. Everything will be lit by hand, with AO pass to bring out small details.

11 November 2004, 09:23 PM
hey azazel

as expected, the bullets look great.
I'm really looking forward to the textures.
What kind of Color-scheme do you want to
use? Do u stick with your sketches or do you
want to experiment a little??

Will he have a crew? or even a ship???

Can't wait for updates!!

11 November 2004, 10:01 PM
Hey azazel

The pirate is looking really great, those guns and the bullets are great, like the big hands of the guy :) Great job there!

11 November 2004, 11:02 PM
Hey azazel

Thats a nice bit of modeling, great scale and mass, his boots look a bit wooden though

would need to look softer to high light movement, its only my opinion

cant wait to see the full scene, nice work the guns are super classic, bullets the biz!

Patina ( (

11 November 2004, 11:42 PM
Hasch2o: I'll experiment a bit, but i want to have a color scheme of the final image first, then work out colors for this guy - it's easy to find interesting schemes for him alone, but not sure if they would work in a bigger scene.

Kaksht: Thanks :)

patina: The boots are actually mostly metal - based on a real divers boots. but real ones are not flexible, so i made the sole three part, so it can bend :)

11 November 2004, 02:57 AM
cool guns and lets see the composition he's going in, because we might not see the bullets if he's looking away from us, no? Good luck. - But, I'm sure you might not care about that because regardless of how this competition ends, yuo're going to have a cool model after all! peace

11 November 2004, 03:33 AM
It's my first time in your thread, and it will not be the last, for sure, azazel.
I love your pirate, it's very funny. Keep working!

11 November 2004, 05:06 PM
great character ! the classic style guns looks better then the first one .

and i'am looking forward the texture too , keep up ! :bounce:

11 November 2004, 02:44 PM
hey dude

amazing character you've created here, excellent work!

my only crit is that I only see the character as the focus of this piece, and no sense of a larger event of galactic history. I haven't been following so I don't know your plans, but I'm sure it will be great.
Hope to see more concept sketches..

11 November 2004, 09:44 PM
Nice bullet but if you bring out the bullet head to become a hemisphere then i think it will axactlly look like the measure of the gun ;)

11 November 2004, 03:12 PM
Hi there Azazel!

I was just following your thread link from my post and Whhoooaa!!!
That character of yours has some serious personality, and the last pic you posted really packs a punch in terms of pose\staging...

Actually this tipe of cartoonish character really speaks to me because I was recently involved in a short film with a similar style... check it out! www.arqui300/cosmix (http://www.arqui300/cosmix)

I can appreciate that it's not always easy to truly create a charismatic character, but imho you've nailed it just right! Congrats  :bounce:

But what I'm really curious about is... what kind of trouble will he be in?

11 November 2004, 09:42 AM
Hi Azazel,

Love the character and cant wait for its enviroment.

I was thinking about either a parrot of some kind, or a little monkey :) But not sure if it'd fit the final image, so it'll have to wait a bit.
A good idea - what about a mechanical parrot of some kind - gears and pulleys/small pistons and a small smoke stack (stam driven). Might be too much detail though...

Look forward to seeing more...

11 November 2004, 10:07 AM
Oh, that's one great character with tons of attitude, perfectly executed... Really looking forward to see how you've planned the final scene here

Static Project
11 November 2004, 10:11 PM
   I like this guy !!!

12 December 2004, 04:58 PM
Added the bullets - they ideed fit him (although technically that kind of bullet would not fit his weapons - let's just assume it would;)). Ok, now no more of him until i have some concept of the final scene. Then i'll move to the texturing :) and rigging :(.
Very nicely modeled and lit! May I suggest that your pirate needs a hat! Where is his gangplank that he's standing on, and a space pirate ship in the background? Arrrrrrrr....

PS - How do we get 3D people to start posing their characters when exposed to the publics eye?

12 December 2004, 05:41 PM
Sorry for not replying earlier, i wanted to have some update to go with the reply, unfortunately, no luck here - been bit busy lately ;)

HieSpike: he's not likely to be 'looking away' - his backside is not that interesting :)

claudio_jordao, painkiller: Thanks guys

Versiden: yeah, that my be a bit of a problem - but i just had to model him after i sketched him - even if he end's up being very small in a final image ;), besides, i like character-centric pieces. thanks - might as well do that ;)

Rui_Padinha: Cosmix was very nice, nice character, and very cool visual style, especially in wider, open-space shots. Well done . As for charismatic characters, i like such ones much more than generic ones - generic characters are most often simply boring ;)

jamacsween: Great idea, steam-clockwork parrot, hmmm, will see what i can do. Thanks.

JamesMK, Static Project: Thanks :)

Daniel McMillan: I actually have some sketches of the ship - unfortunately it's for a single person, so only crew would be that parrot mentioned by jamacsween.

Had to scrap few of my ideas as they are already done by some people in this challenge, thinking about new ones hehe ;)

12 December 2004, 05:05 AM
Hey bro!

Wow glad to see your work in this contest! And why arent you working for the people that make Oddworld, or Oddworld Stranger!? These designs remind me of them so much! and i love that!! cant wait to see more from you =)

12 December 2004, 10:52 PM
hm, long time since last update.. you wanna end up in my signature like the rest of the poor guys who quit the challenge?? ;)

12 December 2004, 05:38 PM
Great work thus far my friend. Let's not let this one die, eh?

12 December 2004, 11:55 PM
great character and modeling, cant you port him to UT2004 so we can see him at work lol?

12 December 2004, 09:54 AM
Hey azazel... helloooooooooo! :bounce:

12 December 2004, 10:34 PM (

Back in business, finally. Various reasons kept me away from working on the challenge for last few weeks.

Story: Our brave pirate had an 'emergency landing' on some far away planet. Accidentally he landed at the centre of great colony of eggs... being quite hungry, he decided to cook himself some scrambled eggs with bacon... What he didn't know was that eggs belong to the dominant species of that planet, quite nasty predatory beings (that tentacles at the horizon ;)). It's pretty obvious they don't like the idea of their offspring being eaten...

edit: Anders, now you don't need to change your sig ;)

12 December 2004, 04:30 PM
very very cool...

(nb: i prefer fist gunz)

one of my fav so far....great character...

12 December 2004, 11:36 PM
ah yes, great scene concept. looks like something that can be made quite fast but still look nice.

12 December 2004, 02:29 PM
Hey Azazel... it's the first time I see your space pirat... and I find it true good... cool design... I'm in hurry to see the next step... with the composition like your sketch... congrats man...

12 December 2004, 06:20 PM (

Testing the pose (no rig, jest a combination of vector rotations and magnets in wings). To fix:
- his left shoulder
- his left hand (fingers)
- creases on the belly
- rotate the frying pan a bit, so it's clearer what it is.

few more.

12 December 2004, 06:25 PM
baby: heh in the end, gun is not even likely to be seen ;)
fellah: hopefully, as there are also other deadlines to meet :(
Lemog, thanks

Now that i look at it, his right leg will be changed also, to balance the pose bit more.

12 December 2004, 07:59 PM
hi azazel i was expecting you very very sooner each time i connect i check yout entry for new updadet.....
exelent job

12 December 2004, 08:37 PM
your design is very cool ! can't wait to see more!

12 December 2004, 09:23 PM
Great character, and I like your comp sketch. Can't wait to see the other models and the textures.

12 December 2004, 11:25 AM (

ok, now the pose looks imo better

12 December 2004, 11:30 AM (

and this pose looks okay at other angle too :)

Yasser, there should be more updates now ;)

12 December 2004, 01:56 PM
i hope so .......:scream:
imagine when the challenge finish we need a heuge time to ook to each another final image .....
and it is realyyyyy intresting.
ike to see more ...... here:bounce:

12 December 2004, 03:57 PM
Hi azazel

I was looking for your thread, its progressing well, I love your concept painting,
I would love to see it animated, they should have a whole new space opera where you have to animate the final image into a 2min scene, would be great!

Check my link

Paolo Patina!

12 December 2004, 06:51 PM
hello Andrej,

Eww that was disgusting...but it's great looking...awsome entry. HAPPY NEW YEAR!

01 January 2005, 01:20 PM
hi guy.

im a new member in this site and also a begginer in cg..but to tell u the truth ur work is great..nice character designing and modeling.. but that would be better if u worked on its textures it will look better.

01 January 2005, 02:42 PM
i like the concept sketch, but i miss the old school guns... maybe make a hand of frying pan as a gun, or something!!!

01 January 2005, 05:38 PM (

Modelled the background ship. More details will come from textures, and, it'll be behind some fog ;)

01 January 2005, 05:45 PM
patina: no no, rigging him would be a nightmare - posing in wings was easier ;)
mr_carl: thanks :)
shiela_G: wait for the textures, there will be some slimey things ;)
Lemog: Thanks :)
living_for_cg: don't worry, textures will come, but i have to finish modelling first.
kengi: ok, gun will be somewhere on the image ;) besides it wouldn ot be wasted anyway

01 January 2005, 04:17 AM
hey azazel happpy new year and wish you the best .....
nice ship...

01 January 2005, 01:41 AM
wow extraordinary work!!

01 January 2005, 10:47 AM
Andrzej....................I like this guy........very well done.A real fun and interesting look.......He can join my Scalawag clan anytime.....They can pillage, plunder, skirt chase, treasure hunt, drink tons of rum together anytime...............Again nice and creative design,I like the proportions and look very much...............:arteest:

01 January 2005, 10:55 AM
I like you work! Nice features your character keep it up
I love eggs! yummmmmmmm:bounce:

01 January 2005, 10:58 AM
It's not

"Grand Egg Opera"

01 January 2005, 05:02 PM (

Uff, almost everything is modelled and uv'ed now. Tentacles on the concept are just a background-filler, but i decided to have more of a tentacle action going on...

Edit: Thanks guys

01 January 2005, 05:24 PM
Simple and nice.....
but eyes not go directly to the guy ! ! ! !.....

01 January 2005, 05:32 PM
Yes, i see that. I would not so much move things around now as light it to make the guy main point. Thanks :)

01 January 2005, 07:25 PM
HI there Andrzej, nice to see you in action. Very nice idea. And what about some fire place? he must scrumble these eggs somewhere:) And what do you want to put in a very background?

01 January 2005, 09:42 PM
Hi there Andrzej!
Good to see Your back! Nice idea here, like it alot  Oh and cool eggs, look like jars of jam :) (joke) Keep it up ohh and maybe some more dof...

01 January 2005, 11:25 PM (

I know i should texture first, than light.... but lighting is so damn fun, I couldn't resist. I'm quite happy with the result, but still have to solve the problem of lighting his face - now it's too dark. Come to think of it, the pipe may be helpful :). There's also some very simple post - painting some shadows, as they will be rendered separately, bit of blur on the horizon, some vignettes and little of levels.

Edit: yes, fire will come - that's where that orange light comes from. Slight dof is already present.

Just saw it on a crt monitor, heck, it looks 2 x better on my lcd.. sharper, brighter, more vivid... :hmm:

01 January 2005, 11:33 PM
yap, lighting is fun, but only when you get so great results. With the face I think that the pipe is a great solution. Only make it a little bit bigger, add some gantly smoke and it will rock.

01 January 2005, 11:39 PM
and then you should change a little bit his face, so that he would inhale in this moment, and then the light in the pipe is the brightests... hope that you got me, because I'm not sure if I get my words after reading them second time:)

01 January 2005, 06:28 AM
Now it is much more better....

01 January 2005, 09:32 AM
Hey that's looking great.

I am interested in seeing what you do with the BG

01 January 2005, 10:27 AM
Haha, I love your idea

Just one thing, I think the egg have to be "crackeled", it looks like a vase or pot now.

Great work

01 January 2005, 06:21 PM
nice idea and specialy like the mood light setting in the image!:) is it going to be final!

01 January 2005, 07:33 PM
you are doing a good job with the lightning, giving the picture a nice mood.

01 January 2005, 12:46 PM (

Started texturing the whole thing. Quite simple materials really, with touch of sss to make things look more 'organic' and soft. there will be additional passes for speculars, to make it more slimey, later on.

01 January 2005, 12:52 PM
wohoooooow looks like u will finish, damn... :D
maybe squeeze his right hand around the handle a little more. but it's a shitty little thing. looking forward to see how u solve the slimeyness.. look's excellent sofar, really.

01 January 2005, 01:08 PM
Hopefully i'll finish, 10 days left. Not good :). Yes, the light is generally final, but there will be some minor tweaks after all the textures are ready. For the background - something simple, like some vapors and mists, it's foggy anyway :)

01 January 2005, 01:24 PM
it too late to bend his torso a little bit toward us ?

first we would see him better...then he would look like he's watching what he's doing, right now he's not looking at all at his action...a pity considering the character is so cool... quote my swedish lover : "wohoooooow "

01 January 2005, 01:29 PM
Bit late for that.... but, in first pose test i posted, i did just that. Didn't like how it looked, so i bent him backwards a bit...

01 January 2005, 01:30 PM
Yes... I think like Baby... that's better if he's watching what he do... or the half of the slimey will go on the flour...

That's a  very simpathic composition Azazel...

01 January 2005, 01:45 PM
Really fun image, great character designs and wonderful palette... looking forward to seeing this polished!

Great job so far!

01 January 2005, 01:50 PM
Man....light and color feeling of this is really sweet...can't wait to see it complete..and i am also curious to see the sss shader touch up on this... :bounce:

01 January 2005, 11:53 PM
hi Andrzej,
looking great! well, just some observation on the light...seems too dark. anyway, wish you luck! deadline is so near!

01 January 2005, 10:53 PM (

More texturing... the suit will yet receive more attention, face and ship are still intact.

01 January 2005, 11:01 PM
Lemog: As i said to baby, bit to late for that ;)
cgkrusty: thanks :)
Dimitris: SSS is on almost everything organic - but not very strong. Don't want to overdo that.
shiela_G: This is most likely the issue with my lcd monitor, which is brighter than most crts. I'll keep that in mind, thanks.
fellah: you better finish that entry of yours, or baby will ruin whole zoo :) and start using people ;)

As you see, this one has different colours than previous one - heh every time postproduction is a bit different, don't mind that ;)

01 January 2005, 11:48 PM
Hi Andrzej!

Wow, now those textures look really awesome here, esspecialy like the goo :)

01 January 2005, 11:41 AM
simply incredible man.

only crit from me is that even from the newest update i had no clue what the pic was about, until i read the story...

i dont think the story comes off as well as you might have liked it to..

the picture/light/render/etc is great so far, but if you dont know the story (for me at least) i just dont get it..

great great great job though :)

01 January 2005, 12:26 PM
fellah: you better finish that entry of yours, or baby will ruin whole zoo :) and start using people ;)

.... :scream: :scream: :scream: :scream:

01 January 2005, 04:10 PM
Great job azazel... I love your last update. Still needs some ligthing work on the background scene, right?

01 January 2005, 07:34 PM
wow! this is already excellent!:bounce: love watching the progress i this thread! excellent lighting and mood. no crits :)!
this is a beauty azazel!:buttrock:

01 January 2005, 07:45 PM
very sweet style! i have seen so manny styles on this competition didn`t even know there is half of them :D

01 January 2005, 08:56 PM
Great work azazel. I think that there should be a shadow on the egg from the frying pan. If there shouldn't be one, I advice to make one anyways:) In my opinion it would look more real. Now the egg looks bit strange.

01 January 2005, 09:23 PM
sorry to interupt your tortilla cooking...

here's what I think..

I really don't know if I'm the best to judge or criticize your picture...I think it's not too bad...

but I think you could really improve it...the thing that bothers me, is really the design of the monster...

may I suggest something more like this...I think it would give something way more interesting...

:scream: :scream: :scream:

01 January 2005, 09:38 PM
you are working very gently with the colors, i like that.

01 January 2005, 10:08 PM
Hahahahaha, I like baby's modification to the scene. mmm, fried banana sounds nice. I must admit, baby is pretty good with modifing scenes in photshop(or whatever program you use), i mean those animals seamlessly blend into fellahs scene and the bananas look like they are actually part of this scene. WOuld be really scary if he did get people's pictures and stared doing stuff:eek:.

01 January 2005, 10:22 PM (

More texturing, cranked up some lights as well.

01 January 2005, 10:26 PM
Kaksht: Thanks. Goo has changed a bit now :)
Geta-Ve: Hopefully now the story is bit clearer... and maybe more disturbing as well.
DimitrisLiatsos:
claudio_jordao: background light is more or less done, anyway i want to keep background things as silhouettes mainly.
yunisirees: Thanks
markovicd.: Glad you like the style.
arturro: thanks, i'll keep that in mind
baby: hahahahahahahahah oh well, i'll have my revenge on the banana-invaders :)
Darkone2652: Thanks. colors and light really make or break the image, so i'm careful ;)
ace4016: fortunately i don't think i posted my photos online :)

01 January 2005, 11:01 PM
cool idea the tentacles !!!

01 January 2005, 11:27 PM
WOW! :bounce:

no crits this time... for me you don't have to finish it. right now its enough!

01 January 2005, 12:48 AM
Looks good...a great mood you have created with your image...I feel though that it needs more sense of motion....A little late to cahnge anything I know...perhaps if you did something with the fire in your final render or post...perhaps you already have this planned....anyways I like your entry..

01 January 2005, 12:56 AM
Hey... This is looking nice. Very atmospheric. Something in the very very back would finish this off very well... Good work.

01 January 2005, 01:21 AM
man, I really love the colour scheme. these green atmospheres fit perfect. man, you are one of my top

01 January 2005, 09:22 AM
WOW! I have been watching this thread for a while and the way U model and master SSS is really brilliant :) :bounce:
And i like the touch of black humour U got here :)

01 January 2005, 12:39 AM
ah yes that is better, may I suggest some actual flames? and some smoke coming from the pan? that might aid it as well :) great job so far, my your definatly getting my vote :)

01 January 2005, 01:21 AM
to good, kinda got the spirit of a 2d drawing. it's already full of life, which is not easy to do in 3d when we create everything and leave nothing for the eyes/brain to interpret.
sad that it's not more "grand" in scale. it would have made it a bigger competitor to the first spot in this challenge.

01 January 2005, 09:41 PM (

Texturing and all done. Here is temporary composition. Smokes, particles and all that stuff in next days. I think i'll start hi-res render tonight.

01 January 2005, 09:43 PM
azazel ... i enjoy watching amopshere of this scene! NICE!

01 January 2005, 09:46 PM
Thanks guys. More motion, as sparks, smoke etc will come. I'm very satisfied hearing what you say, fellah, i indeed approach it as i'd approach if it was a painting - and i'm quite happy with the result. :buttrock:

01 January 2005, 04:53 PM
Hi Andrzej!
Looking great here, the textures look amasing!

01 January 2005, 07:30 PM (

Here's a little breakdown of the passes i so far have rendered. There are also few object buffers (masks for certain objects). Shadows are rendered separately, as i wanted more control over them - while they may not be physically accurately placed, they are placed the way i want them. Fog pass is useful for all kinds of selections involving plane separation - fore-, middle- and back- grounds. Slime pass is just reflections of objects impersonating sky and fire, to give objects slightly 'wet' appearance. Fire was actually done using maya's paint effects.

01 January 2005, 08:03 PM
Nice proses boy .....

01 January 2005, 09:39 PM (

Bigger one this time. Added some little details here and there, overpainted some things etc. Almost there, maybe a few tweaks tomorrow, and then... done :)

01 January 2005, 10:09 PM
Wonderful! Perfect! not too much, not too less. If you find time you can try to add gently blurry vapours, from the cooling down front engine... But there is no need, just a hot thought:)

01 January 2005, 10:58 PM
hmmm.. i think its all good.. except one thing..

the ship.. it looks like its yawning.. or screaming maybe :p perhaps thats what you wanted?

and my eyes are greatly drawn to it im finding.. (though that could be because of the yawn thing going on..)

great job none the less though!

01 January 2005, 11:18 PM
Hi Andrzej!
Wow, this is a stunning image mate! Really awesome! :bounce: The fog worksout really great giving this gloomie effect
P.S. Thanks for explaining!

01 January 2005, 02:15 PM (

Some subtle vapours are likely to come. As for the yawning ship.... well certainly i had some big sea animal shape in mind, or more likely subconciousness ;) Here you can see the ship better - that engine indeed reminds a gaping open mouth a bit. Anyway, too late to change it now i think :)

01 January 2005, 02:23 PM (

Ship is coming so great ....and this image is AWESOME azazel :bounce:

01 January 2005, 02:31 PM
You're doing a very ncie picture, azazel. Great mood, and this guy is full of character!
Did I mention I love the lighting and colors? it *needs* a slight tough of blue in my opinion... I'd like to see that blue light source that lights your character on the side.. maybe some lights on the ship?

01 January 2005, 02:52 PM
Good point m@. There actually is the blue light on the ship, only it got lost a bit in post process.... i'll bring bit back. Or quickly render a blue rim over the ship. Thanks.

Dimi, Thanks :)

01 January 2005, 03:29 PM
Hey men you realy realy have done a realy nice job ......what sofware do u use ....

01 January 2005, 04:11 PM
Software ? Wings 3d for modelling and UV's, cinema 4d for everything else. And of course photoshop.

01 January 2005, 04:58 PM
Subtil ship with simple but great design... I like that...

01 January 2005, 07:36 PM (

Implemented the comments about light on the ship, subtle as it is, i think it helped a bit :. Also, added more light from the fire on the ship - and it seems to help a tiny bit in the 'yawning' case ;)

01 January 2005, 08:06 PM
WoW, I like this pic, she's very originaly, this lighting is very god and the characters very nice, very good work, good luck

01 January 2005, 08:44 PM
no no no i dont thinkl so........for the first time the imege loaded my eyse gose to the left uper corner insted of the character......(i think)chage that the way it was:)

01 January 2005, 10:15 PM
rock on buddy, if u was a girl I would marry u!!! love this pic.. the best pic in this challenge infact!!

and I agree with the blue light..

01 January 2005, 10:19 PM
...after all 'baby' talk, should i be afraid now ? ;) hehe thanks.

Anyway, you agree the blue light is better or worse ?

01 January 2005, 10:25 PM
hahahahaha don't be afraid I'm straight, just a little drunk! :D

but in my _mind_, a little blue rimlight spread around on the eggs would add to the pic. it's atleast worth a try.

01 January 2005, 10:48 PM
This has to be one of the most bizarre entries in the challenge. Nice job, strange but nice!

01 January 2005, 03:04 PM (

I tried the blue rim on the eggs, but found it too distracting from the character. But, i added some blue tint to the upper right corner, IMO looks bit better that way.

01 January 2005, 04:03 PM
yeah much more better.....

01 January 2005, 05:10 PM
But, i added some blue tint to the upper right corner, IMO looks bit better that way.

I was gonna say, "did you add blue to the upper right corner" but you answered my question. However to be honest I really couldnt see any blue before... like as subtle as it was suppose to be the two images (with and without the blue) looked exactly the same.. at least on my monitor :p

I know I keep saying "my only problem" or what not, but I keep noticing things... the yawning is taken down alot :) Now my little "ish" if you will is with the character himself.. he seems to blend it so much with the eggs.. the color pallette of both seem to be very similar..

I know its pretty much too late for anything else... er.. isnt today the deadline? but ya i was just thinkin, thats all :p

Anywyas man either way your definatly getting my vote :)

01 January 2005, 05:26 PM
Yasser: Thanks

Geta-Ve: Yeah, there is a problem with this thing on different monitors, it looks different on all of them, like, totally diferent. Color palette on everything is quite similar... but that light setup makes even different colors look similar. To be honest most colors here come from light, not much from textures - textures are pretty desaturated.

Deadline is 17, isn't it ? Anyway, i should submit finals soon... thanks for the vote :)

01 January 2005, 05:43 PM
Hahaha, love your image...sweet and humorous:)

01 January 2005, 05:53 PM
no serious difference on my screen (21" mitsubishi diamond) between the latest 2 picture...
a small preference for the last one, cause a bit more blue tonality in the background... now, this one appear a bit more cold and finally contrast more with the character... good work...

01 January 2005, 06:29 PM
:: good work azazel
:: your last pic is really cool, i like pretty much the atmosphere.
:: wonderful color scheme but you could add more blue.
:: Congratulation...good luck... awesome:thumbsup:

01 January 2005, 07:35 PM (

Added bit more of that blue tint - bit more means like 5-7 % ;). More seemed too much.

And now... that's it, it's final version :). Done. It was great fun, learned a lot. Thanks everyone for your support, comments and crits. 'Till the next time ;)

01 January 2005, 07:39 PM
congratz mate... beautyfull atmposhere! :)

01 January 2005, 07:45 PM
yap, this dude here will have a nice meal:) my congratulations mate! I wish you best and see you on the next challenge, or maybe on a beer:twisted:

01 January 2005, 07:49 PM
Hello azazel. Great job mate... one of my favorites! Good luck.

01 January 2005, 11:59 PM
Really well done :buttrock:

01 January 2005, 12:13 AM
Congrats man :) It has been a long ride eh? :p Perhaps I will try to participate in the next challenge, heh

01 January 2005, 12:58 AM
Excellent!!! One of my favorite entries, not too much in the scene but so much to tell. Great job azazel, i love the feel of the image. Good luck on the voting:thumbsup: .

01 January 2005, 01:01 AM
Just wanted to drop by a couple of these   ........I like him.....But I am a fool for fun lov'in rough and tough pirates to begin with......

01 January 2005, 04:01 AM
hummm..... well... atleast I beat u in the 3darttopart challenge, guess it has to be 50/50 in life :D

inspiring piece of work really..

01 January 2005, 05:02 PM
this is just my favorite work of you
excellent piece!!

01 January 2005, 07:08 PM
Thanks everyone!. It was great fun.

Fellah: eeh man, we are still before judging now.... ;)

01 January 2005, 07:38 PM
Interesting background, I like it. I like the character too he has alot of peronality.

01 January 2005, 08:19 PM
Excellent work!! Nice mood and original style!!

01 January 2005, 11:02 PM
Hi azazel,

I love this piece. The simplicity, lighting, composition, all really great work. A real pleasure to look at. It has a nicely polished look to the rendering too.
Well done! and good luck.

01 January 2005, 06:13 AM
HEY DUDE.........

very great this piece.
I like it.
good LOOK...........

01 January 2005, 08:42 AM
Like the character, good lighting and decent texture job.But way too confined for GSO man. It's more like a cracker box sized opera LOL.Character is quite simple, but does have a good look.I think a bit more light would have worked better IMHO.

01 January 2005, 10:27 AM
Another one who I totally missed the entry... sorry azazel...

I view all your challenge page entries and congrats for the sketches an the modelling of your figure. This absolutely super stylish and a wonderful modelling work. I love this scene and colors that you choose and your final image rocks really ... a big :applause:

01 January 2005, 11:15 AM
Thanks :) :)

Kylebrn: I see your point. However, i find images character-centric more interesting than maybe great, but character-less epic, panoramic things. And by characters, i don't mean great army of soldiers , but characters with some personality. It's bit like reading a history textbook, and adventure story set in same time - i have much more fun reading 'confined' story maybe not always true to the facts, but dealing with characters, instead of panoramic, accurate, but lacking the 'personal involvement' historical facts. The key is to find some balance - i choose to focus on the character more. Just like it that way :)

01 January 2005, 11:20 AM
Somehow missed the fact that your final was up here, Andrzej... Excellent finish! Lovely lighting, very atmospheric and slightly spookey background environment... it's all good  The lighting stands out the most actually, perfect ambience.

01 January 2005, 11:33 AM
Light... that was the most fun part of the whole challenge, and i'm really pleased with the effect. On the other hand, lighting such stylized scenes is a bit easier than 'photoreal' ones - much more freedom. I'm thinking about a little project to play with realisitc light a bit - as the time permits ;)

01 January 2005, 11:39 AM
Well, I have to say that lighting as such is somewhat turning out as the most interesting aspect of this whole 3D thing... But realistic lighting surely is not quite as much fun - been working on some shots for a video over the holidays, and matching somewhat realistic lighting conditions mostly revolve around decreasing the impact and saturation of just about everything... it's a bit like having a "dullness & lame.o.matic slider" that you keep pushing until it reaches 100% :D .... but that's another story.

01 January 2005, 12:33 PM
very nice colors and funny its a outstnading work i wish you the best ...:)

01 January 2005, 11:02 AM
Heh, great job mate! Looks very good!

01 January 2005, 07:11 PM
That's really, realy FANTASTIC artwork :) I'd like to shake your hand :) Congrats Andrzejku !

...and GOOD LUCK of course ;)

Yap, I second that with a great respect! Maybe we will drink a couple of beers some day, somewhere in Cracow;) And it is possible that we have seen each other as I am also from Cracow:) who knows..

01 January 2005, 12:50 PM
Good luck in the Voting. I hope they will increase the number of shortlisted entries which get to the jury. But nevertheless, you made a huge progress and I congratulate you my friend! I'm looking forward to seeing your next masterpiece.

01 January 2005, 12:52 PM
Well about the progress. I haven't seen many of your previous works, but as I think that this work is more conciously done. I don't see the technical prograss, but let's say insode one:) Good luck!

01 January 2005, 03:37 PM
Beautifull picture !! The lightning of your scene is a real success !! I really like the colors and the framing too !... and I think that your picture produces a fun effect on the spectator... So your work is well done ! :applause:

Thus, great job !...

01 January 2005, 04:10 PM
great entry ...
allready said a hundreds of times, I just have to say it aggain:
the character is the best toon personage in the whole challenge (only fellahs german tourists could compete with that) and the light is giving the whole scene a great athmosphere

congrats man.

one technical question:
going through your thread you mention that u use wings UV unwrapper and you like how it does the job (heard bout its great auto-unwrapping before)
could you quickly outline your modelling, UV, texturing, rendering workflow

01 January 2005, 06:01 PM
swag, Kaksht, , miloszwl, graga, Mr.Waka: thanks guys :)

JamesMK: yes, and at the same time lighting is quite often neglected...

Kaszub: We'll shake hands next time we meet :)

arturro: about that beer, why not ? ;)

mimo8: generally i start with concept sketches - before that there's a lot of inspiration/reference research. Modelling is generally straightforward, starting with the rough forms, than detailing - i'm not big fan of starting the model from the detail. I like modelling characters in more relaxed pose, so even in default pose they look natural - T-pose is easier to rig, but for this challenge i didn't even rig the character, posing him in wings instead (using vector rotations + magnets). Unwrapping... used to hate it passionately, not anymore - in cases of organic things, using autoUV saves me lots of time. It can became tricky for mechanical things - but not much trickier than any other way of unwrapping. For texturing, this time i used mostly hand-painted textures, lot's of custom brushes involved. Materials are fairly simple, it's all in the light - light is probably most important thing here. Used a lot of standard lights, and generally character and background are lit separately, i have more control that way. Rendered passes i posted few days ago, they should give you some insight ;)

01 January 2005, 06:07 PM
yup!:) one of the greater entrys here!love the work and specially the lighting!...nice work !

01 January 2005, 07:37 PM
just wanted to let you know that I voted for your image
it brought me to laugh on a pleasing way :)

thnx for taking time to tell something bout your workflow.
so programwise you start in wings and do all the modelling and texturing there,
then you export your model over to maya and set the lights and render it there?
or did you do everything in wings?

I also really would love to see a wiremesh screenshot showing the light setup

yunisirees, theuni: thanks

mimo8: no no, modelling and uv in wings, scene assembly, materials, lights etc in cinema 4d - only thing from maya is the pfx fire - guess i could have painted that in photoshop ;).
Hope these two will give at least some info about light placement. Green lines are clipping ranges - most light affect only part of the scene, some of them are specular only, lot of exclusion going on, and so on...

great - thnank you ... coming from cinema the wires talk to me (I can read them ; )
If you dont mind I will continue my little interview, cause this workflow thing is pretty interesting. When I open wings it looks very dry to me, so I ask myself (or better you) if the modelling speed is worth taking a closer look at it.
specially because cinema is a great modeller (me think ... I also like maya for modelling, dont get it why people sometimes say its polymodelling is no good, just because some minor functions like edge loop could be improved)
so is it any special tools (like magnet, mirror ...) that make you work on the mesh in wings or just your habbit.

another idea would be to import a ready modeled mesh into wings, autoUV it there and export it right away ... wings as a fast uv tool? could you imagine that?
what format do you use? .obj? .3dm?

hope you dont mind getting into UV detail here, I just take the chance to ask some questions to someone doing a workflow that I allways was thinking abbout.
UV layouting in cinema or maya is not that bad ... its just a timeconsuming process, but once u have your way through itīs nothing that mystical bout it.
still something called autoUV sounds pretty attractive ...

looking at the wires you seem to have mastered the art of setting light without using radiosity (you didnīt, or?)
not to many and not too less lightsources - like that way cause I can imagine that it renders pretty fast and could be even used for anim

Well, i have c4d 8,5 xl, not r9 - in new one modellling tools improved quite much, i'd use it more if i had it ;). There are some tools in wings that i like, virtual mirror, tweak, slide, magnets, and most of all, vector operations - you can move, scale, rotate along any edge, normal, etc. Similar tools are available in most other softwares, maybe except vector operations, but what i like most is that in wings they are easily accesible, intuitive, and properly arranged, no searching in various menus, everything is at hand (rmb menu), or under keyboard shortcuts. Take maya's soft modification tools, they are clumsy at best, and i'm not sure if my cinema 8,5 even has such thing. Besides i used wings for last few years... i feel "at home" there ;)

I used wings that way as well, for things that are painful to unwrap any other way, format - obj or 3ds, you can use fbx as well (export only)

Not having Body Paint my uv options in c4d are bit limited - i agree, with some experience uv'ing is not that hard. With wings i find it even easier and faster in some cases ;). Note, similar mapping tools, called LSCM Mapping are available in Blender as well, and some people with highend apps use Blender for that alone ;)

No radiosity, no real need for that - don't need color bleeding here, and lights are easier to control than gi/radiosity solution. As most of the lights don't even cast shadows, or use low res shadow maps, i can really use as much of them as i want. I used Ambient Occlusion pass to darken the shadows, but this is rendered separately, with no lights at all. Unfortunately, c4d's AO shader is bit slow. I also used sss shader, so the main pass is bit slow to render as well. In say PAL res rendertimes would be up to ten minutes for beauty and maybe bit less for ao per frame - assuming there won't be any flickering with the low sample count i used. Anyway, this light setup will work in that camera angle only, so no camera flyaround ;)

I really like the character in this concept. Love to see a wire. I hope we see more of this character in the future.

thnx azazel for giving an insight in your workflow ...
I really hope you are getting into the ranks (is this english ?),
and also just can repeat webheads posting, whishing to see more of this character in the future. The tension that you build up in this image just wants us ask for more ... will his dinner be prepared in time ... will he like the taste ... does he have salt and pepper with him to spice it up ... did the arms get al dente ... and what will come for desert ???

webhead: take a look here:
and there should be better face wire somewhere between the modelling milestones i submitted ;)
mimo8: i already have some ideas... hopefully i'll have the time and motivation ;) to realize them. Next challenge is not likely to help

element5: Thanks :)
mimo8: i think it ends today, assuming today is friday....
