View Full Version : Best firewall for personal use?

10-29-2004, 09:30 AM
Hi there

been looking for a software firewall recently. Having used zonealarm previously Im not gonna use that one again :)

Recently I found a firewall called outpost http://www.agnitum.com/products/outpost/

is anyone using that one? If so is it any good?

Also I used to have kerio personal firewall, and it was very good, but recently it seems to have gone bloated as well.

If anyone knows if any other good firewalls let me know. I would like something with similar functionality to kerio, which is as soon as an application tries to connect it gives a warning and allows me to serup a rule for that app.

I have outpost firewall and really like it. The only problem is that my license was only for a year. Which I didnt realize it at the time. I thought that was kind of shotty, but oh well. I also run a hardware firewall out of my router.

Black Ice (http://www.digitalriver.com/dr/v2/ec_dynamic.main?SP=1&PN=10&sid=26412) isn't too shabby.

ZoneAlarm (www.zonelabs.com (http://www.zonelabs.com)) is very good. ZoneLabs was aquired by Check Point (www.checkpoint.com (http://www.checkpoint.com)), the folks who do great VPN software and really know about security.
