Well.. guess this is it :)

(edit: let's put the story in the first post as well, makes it somewhat more clear :) )

The story

In the early days of the planet earth there was another intelligent life form, which we refer to today as: ‘’the aliens’’. They were the first intelligent life form on planet earth, they came to this planet for it’s resources, like gold and diamonds which they could us as power source. But since planet earth wasn’t their home planet they had problems with living and working on our planet, they weren’t used to this much gravity, and they couldn’t eat the food on our planet. Their resource gathering took to long, and became too expensive. So they decided to make a new life form which could life and breath on this planet. And which they could use for their work on this planet. This life form became mankind; we were basically used as slaves for these aliens. After they had everything they needed, most of us were killed. Some managed to escape though. They managed to stay alive on this planet and grew. Our kind became smarter and stronger over the years. They aliens came every thousand years to check upon us, we were allowed to live as long as we didn’t form any threat to them. But with their check in the year 2000, they saw that we grew too strong, and thus became a threat to them. They prepared for war, to once again wipe out the human kind, but his time once and for all. In the year 2039 The battle for earth began. As far as you could call it a battle, the humans still weren’t any match for the aliens, and most of them were brutally slaughtered. The aliens defeat us, and mankind was wiped from the face of the earth. Though again some people managed to survive, but this time they were mostly haunted down and killed. The aliens searched our planet every day for the once remaining. These people lived in fear, could this be the end of the human race? Or is there still some hope left?

ye shame u didnt read the faq / rules . since this has been entered for the GoT contest too ..

Q: I am currently working on another space opera-theme project (commercial/non-commercial/whatever). Can I make my image for this contest based on the other project?
A: Be original and imaginative please. Create a unique image.

Well it's not against the rules.

And beside's you know yourselfe that that's not a real contest, c'mon man. It's for some fun, it's an amateur site. But i will quite that than no problem...

im just poking you to be more original for this project instead of using files u created for another

bout the rules

your not alowed to use premade models
technicly this is what u did since the model existed prior to the start of this contest

actualy it doesnt .

your allowed to draw inspiration from any existing sci-fi game / movie / series
thats basicly what i did ..
altough i've never seen Homeworld itself [ only homeworld 2 and the scene is based on a variation of the battles i've done in it]

the basic shape of the carier design resembles the was inspired by the cruiser of Hw2 .
yet all other craft involved havent been inspired by homeworld at all but they use the same kind of "trails" .

Hey matey...

Nice looking stuff there-however u arent allowed 2 use models made prior to the start of the contest. But judging from your skill so far that shouldnt pose such a problem for you!

Excellent modeling.

10 October 2004, 02:23 PM
WOW! This modelling looks great! (and that for a Dutch :) boy at the age of 17 or so :scream: ) You did that in Max?! :P Could you explain a little bit of your method (to get it that smooth)... Is it all poly & MSmooth? Interesting way of modelling in all ways...!

2 offtopic things:
- I agree that that GOT-stuff/contesteds is not really cool. I also checked it out some time, but I don't feel happy at that place. Same for 3DHype.nl (if you post something AWESOME over there, they're far from as happy as people are here about it :) ). If I were you I'd also quit that other...
- Something fun; I know someone who has alsmost same name as you, but not 'van Vught' but 'de Vugt'. Also he's as old as you are!

Greetz & allot good luck, Gijs

BTW: please don't forget to give us a sketch ;)

Ok listen up guys:) ,

What i did isn't against the rules. The only thing really is that i first posted it on another site... But i'm not gonna post there anymore. SInce voutlooz is against it or something...
To make that issue clear:thumbsup:

Thnx for all the comments, always nice to hear such things :)

heres is a very rough sketch, i'm gonna PS it a bit now... better sketch will be there in a lil while..

tomorrow i think i will draw it better :P, just a really quick sketch to give you a idea of what i had in mind You'd better start all over again. Making a sketch of you prior used model won't help. Common be fair. You made this model before the start of this contest. You can better admit it and restart all over again. It will save you allot of suspicious glances.

ok i'm gonna say this once and once only.

Go to this site: http://gathering.tweakers.net/forum/list_messages/963836/5 .And see that my first wip of this ship was on 20 oktober. This contest started on 18 oktober. I just posted it somewhat earlier on the other site than here. I really really don't see the big deal about it.
I am really not gonna lie about this....

But if you don't like it somehow that i didn't post it here first, i will quite then... I quite the posting on the other site, for this... I Really don't see how this could be a problem....

Looking awesome so far. Really like the design of the jet. And as for as the so called premade model, I dont think that can be a issue since you clearly posted it after the competition started, talk with a few administrators and the see there point of view on it. I dont see why you would have to start over on something that you clearly have been puting your hardwork into. Good luck in this challenge, http://cgtalk.com/images/smilies/thumbsup.gif

There's a war going on. Most people are fighting. The humans are no match for this alien kind. The earth is lost, the people that are left are either praying or fighting, nothing seems to work . In the end there's this little boy whos praying to god to save him in a church. Against him is an evil orc kind with a big gun pointed at him....Will he shoot..?

I am really gonna work to put as much emotion into that little boy as i can.
I gonna draw a conept now, should be finished soon

A really basic idea of what it's gonna be.. It can come out pretty different from this, but the base like this. A little boy standing on the battlefield after the battle crying. With in the background some spaceships in search of the last reamaining people(see story). And a destroyed city... How it is exactly gonna look in the end i dunno yet, i just have an idea of it..:)

It's really fascinating idea and rather original I would say.
But as for me a subject could be more dramatic and capchuring if a boy appears (unexpectedly!!!) among falling ships and buildings, a witness of a huge battle which has begun suddenly...

Yes something like that is cool too. As i said it could go any way, i almost never stick to my original concept. Just the idea of a boy at the battle field(before or after). But if the battle is still going on i think it's just too hard to really focus the attention on the boy, since the image will become overcrowded.... I think it will be more dramatic, to put him after the battle, with a couple of corpses on the ground, a couple of ships still in the air, a black sky, destroyed buildings and so on. With him being the symbol of hope for mankind.. :)

But as i said it can still go any way...
But first i will try to finish this boy, and make some ships... then i will begin really thinking about the scenery and environment....

Nice update mate, im only see one problem in the cloth, it hasnt width , look little flat specially in the arms .Maybe you can add a modifier solidify (Xsi) or shell (max) dont know what software are you using but it can help you to make the cloth more thick. Overall the progress is great , i really like the pants and the pose of your model

Hope to explain myself ,hehe

great, the progress is very good... The best of this guy are emotions. He looks so innocent... and the way that he holds toy is so natural... maybe only his face should be scared a little bit more. For example moved a little back, as he would like to take his had back... I hope you get what I mean... good luck!

Very Nice render friend....may I sugest a small bit of variation in the color map/textures of the clothes to give them a bit more of a "worn" look...but really looks nice though

jup, but thats mostly becaus i still have to really texture most parts, well everything is just textured basic, cause the mesh still isn't fully finished, almost there. And then i will start really texturing everything :D

thnx

Wouter

Looks good my friend. Nothing really to crit so far except the ehad onm your character. Its position looks a little out but can't put my finger on it. Its as if the whole head needs to move forward, towards the chest, a little. I'm not as strong a character modeller as you though, just an open opinion.

Keep going!!!

JA

PS Good luck in your exams and look forward to seeing you back here.

• There's been a while since my last visit, I see you have done great advances

Your modeling and texturing are cool, but I believe you should use another pose for the boy, one much more dramatic, please don't missunderstand but he looks too static
Looking forward to see more updates of your image :) !!

Hi d-tox

Your making nice progress, Im not so sure about the scarf, he looks to fashion-able,

more ragged and brown, may be the way to go, its only my opinion,

nice lighting, very Renaissance,

nice work

just making parts of the scene. Most things are untextured right now, and ofcourse the rock he is standing still needs lots of work.

Your image is looking good. My only crit right now would be that the way the lighting is set up, his face is in shadow, and it's kind of the emotional centre of the scene, so i'm not sure that this is a good thing.

keep going!
