Welcome and good luck!

10 October 2004, 02:35 PM (

Hi all!:)

10 October 2004, 04:35 PM
I didn't Understand the concept! There is a story behind?

10 October 2004, 05:42 PM
Sirius is the brightest star on which existed a peace civilization refused from use of the weapon, and from conducting interplanetary wars. But the dream of peace coexistence became utopy, after the civilization of Sirius was completely destroyed. Now for possession of it there are severe wars between huge empires of evil.
In the scetch I show the moment of destroing one of the big cities by the gravitational mechanism-weapon which results in earthquake on a surface of a planet, destroys city and involves as a magnet it in itself with big speed.
Excuse for bad english :)

10 October 2004, 06:18 PM
The star of Isis, called Sothis, or Sirius, is the brightest star in our night sky. Modern astronomy has determined that it is only 8 1/2 light-years distant, and traveling directly towards Earth at many thousands of miles per hour. The Ancient Egyptians believed that Sirius had a tremendous effect upon life on our planet.

The system of Sirius contains two known stars, the first binary star system discovered. The larger and brighter of the two, Sirius A, is three times the mass of our sun, and over ten times as bright. Shining with a brilliant blue-white radiance, Sirius A easily overshadows her darker companion star. Sirius B is a "white dwarf" star, invisible to the naked eye and packing the equivalent mass of our sun into an incredibly dense globe only 4 times the diameter of our Earth.
The Sirius system is directly "upstream" of our solar system within the galactic arm of our Milky Way Galaxy. Because of this, we now know that the polarized energies of Sirius do indeed wash over us. Modern science is yet to discover if this vast current of highly charged particles affects solar activity or life on Earth .

By coming directly towards us, Sirius creates an axis of rotation with Earth relative to the stellar background. Because of this, of all the stars in the sky, only the annual heliacal rising of Sirius exactly matches the length of our solar year, 365.25 days.

i think gravitational magnet-weapon must looks like it

10 October 2004, 08:49 PM
Nice idea, the moment I saw you image I knew it was a gravitaion rift tearing up the planet. I was waiting to see if anyone was going to implement gravitational waves in the work. Good start.

On the composition, I really would like to see the surprised look of soilders and civilians as their bodies start to float away with the rest of their world, and maybe a desprate few holding on vainly to anything they can on the ground.

Looking forward to this comp.

buena suerta .... amiga....

10 October 2004, 09:21 PM
Awesome Idea! Good Luck in the challenge

10 October 2004, 09:56 PM

Work on and show us some magic!

10 October 2004, 06:55 AM

10 October 2004, 08:12 AM
Nice concept so far.

Great concept - and nice sketches too. Looking forward to see the rest!

10 October 2004, 08:46 PM
great work so far!! waiting for the modelling..keep it up!

10 October 2004, 09:38 PM (

This is my final concept sketch.I have added gas effect on a surface of a star and its companion star Sirius B on sky.Hope you like it:)

10 October 2004, 09:43 PM
So your not planing on including any human sized elements?? I was hopeing to see some floating people.

10 October 2004, 09:48 PM
i couldnt model organic forms as i would like to see its problem for me realy friend

10 October 2004, 09:57 PM
Hey that is what challenges are for :)

Otherwise it is still a very cool pic. Have you considered that the gravitaional fields might be so strong that they actually bend the surface of the planet?? Right now it just has alot of stuff flying off of it.

10 October 2004, 10:10 PM
Looks very abstract.
now lets see how you can handle that
good luck

10 October 2004, 10:13 PM
I think strong and also magnet force of weapon. Not to bend a surface just shake it for destroying buildings ...dont know maby i am not right.

10 October 2004, 10:30 PM
I Like your final concept image!! The gas effect is a good idea i think!
Want to see it in 3D.. Update!!!:bounce:

I really really like your concept!!
Good luck!!:buttrock:
I have the same problem for the organic form... i can't modelise character, it's too hard for me.:banghead:

(i don't know why i post a reply but it does not appear.. bad link :surprised )

10 October 2004, 10:40 PM
I not casually have added effect of gas in a stage - majority of stars consist of it .About except for gas there presents also the surface (it is not scientific fantasy in this case).Thank you SuperXCM kisses:)

10 October 2004, 04:43 AM
Hey I like that! looking really cool there.

10 October 2004, 10:17 AM
WOW, WOW, WOW, WOW! :applause:

This is my favourite now... such a great concept and sketch too. Never even thought about gravitational machines and things. Look forward to your progress! :)

To me the space opera theme is about destruction that is silent. In space things could look incredible, with huge explosions if viewing from space, nothing can be heard. It would be very strange to see a planet getting ripped to shreds, but in silence. (i'm guessing thats how it would be anyway)

10 October 2004, 10:30 AM
Nice concepts, keep on!!

10 October 2004, 10:59 AM
just want to say grande ciaooo again Francesco:) i want you win very! parlo l'italiano un po di purtroppo, ma imparo.Di dove tu? 10 October 2004, 11:04 AM
Awesome concept, i love it! :D

10 October 2004, 12:05 PM
Your final concept sketch is really cool, You have nice sketching and colouring skills.
Waiting for your next rocking update:thumbsup:

10 October 2004, 01:06 PM
it looks pretty....the colors and everything....but i feel that the composition is missing something and i can't tell what it is, just feels like its missing something

10 October 2004, 01:39 PM
Very original concept and nice sketch with beautiful color ...

10 October 2004, 04:03 PM
Hmm, it's interesting. I'll have to see more to get a better feel for it. The bold colors are very enjoyable.

10 October 2004, 04:16 PM
The idea is very original. I loved your last sketch, with the gravitational force acting.

I'll keep myself updated. Cool work so far! :applause:

10 October 2004, 04:56 PM
I join the rest of people here saing a big WOW .. really nice concept .. look forward to see that in 3D .. I'll follow your thread ..

10 October 2004, 10:25 AM
A very wild and epic event.I like the approach and potential for the grand pivotal moment.Looks promising Gulchin.......Nice thoughts and idea,I look forward to your Space opera. All the best to you...............:arteest:

10 October 2004, 09:50 PM
I really like your magnetic planet apocalipse idea.
Its really interesting the magnetic fields ripping the land apart.

Just on top of that - any spaceships or flying dragons or steam vessels?
Any furry animals on the land? Aliens, knights, robots..

I just think its a little too simplistic so far and a bit deserted.
But its already looking great! Nice composition.
I just hope you're adding more features. Would like to see that.

Please take it constructively :wip:

10 October 2004, 10:50 AM
Yes, me too I'm waiting to see all the details coming into place (I really loved your first sketches, specially the one where the force was really visible).

E poi ho visto che parli italiano... complimenti! :buttrock:

Stefano :o)

11 November 2004, 08:35 AM (

yes:) you are right guys-it must be some aliens at the stage, thank you realy!

11 November 2004, 08:40 AM
Nice and original ...

11 November 2004, 09:14 AM

grazie mille caro amico :) i am agree with your comment and will keep force visible in final image

11 November 2004, 12:21 PM
I like your Alien concept. I cant wait to see its 3d version, Are you going to add some glows to
this alien?

11 November 2004, 01:07 PM
2 madshooter: yes i am going to add thank you friend:)

11 November 2004, 02:53 PM
Cool work with that alien... the extremities looks like they will be sucking madness out of the attacked. You draw very well.

Keep up the good work, I'll stick around.

11 November 2004, 04:35 PM
Excellent the alien sketch!!!

I like it... also the image in your folder 3D on the net... very like it! (Specially the 03, 14 and the 17 - i don't know why i can't see the 18, 19, 20,21 and 22)
Nice style girl! :)
Want to see more!!

11 November 2004, 08:56 PM
I love your concepts maybe you should consider entering the 2D challenge as well?

11 November 2004, 09:49 PM
Hey nice alien!! I can't wait to see your progress!!

11 November 2004, 06:21 PM

11 November 2004, 10:18 AM
Thats a beautiful sketch gulchin.....exotic and free flowing.Transparency for this is a must in 3D,I hope to see this........A little like from the movie the "Abyss"..........Again nice and serene.....:arteest:

11 November 2004, 11:19 AM
really strange but cool concept
good luck working it out:thumbsup:

11 November 2004, 05:28 AM
Thanks a lot friends, i am happy that you are!:)

2 Virtuoso: thank you for your comment- yes translucency is nesessary :) i am fun of your art style!

:deal: To all who interested about adding translucency for thier staff in projects i put good article and tutorials by Neil Blevins: (

11 November 2004, 06:32 AM
centavrus, thanx for giving tutorials of Neil Blevins, He is an amazing artist, I have seen lot of
good designs done by him.
Thanx again:)

11 November 2004, 04:56 AM
Hey cool! That is a slick looking alien there!! Will be keeping an eye on this one I think! Keep it up!!

11 November 2004, 11:35 AM (

Also i did bump, displaement and specular maps. The alien model is in wip yet :)

11 November 2004, 10:31 AM (

polygonal modelling,without displacement yet.

11 November 2004, 04:22 PM
Oh wow, that giant eye is cool looking, it also looks delicate. I'm just thinking it would be cool looking to add a huge eyelid to it.

11 November 2004, 06:14 PM
A beauty!

I like a lot the palette and the design, lovely organic. The big Eye is really cool.

Keep posting!

11 November 2004, 06:40 PM
Looking really nice, but something is lacking inside the body : the eye itself !
Since you use SSS, you should be able to percieve the bottom part of the occular glob inside the creature's body : in other words : separate it into 2 objects : 1* the eye 2* the body

11 November 2004, 07:04 PM
centavrus: This is looking realy good and so different concept!

Good luck to you:thumbsup:

11 November 2004, 09:03 PM
wow, those sea creature looking creatures looks awesome wareing ur texture... keep it up girl.. good luck

11 November 2004, 09:07 PM
Great "jellyfish" shader !

11 November 2004, 09:38 PM
My head always get so happy when it see something it hasn't seen before.. very original concept, and very nicely executed in 3d so far! I agree with joebount to, that was the first thing I thought of.
looking forward to follow this one more closely, buona fortuna! :)

11 November 2004, 03:49 AM
Oh I wish I could do 3D that looks cool :)

11 November 2004, 03:42 PM
Excellent modeling and texture!!

I like the style!

Keep going!! :buttrock:

PS:Thanks for the link to the tutorial. :)

11 November 2004, 04:55 PM
Hi Gulchin,

really great shaders u've used here:thumbsup: Your alien is from a species of some kind of jellyfish, right? Cool, I do something similar with organic design :-))
Your organics (especially the "feet") are already extremely nice!:applause:
Maybe one suggestion:what about some more veins around the big eye which connect the eye to the body?

Have fun and keep it up:bounce:

11 November 2004, 05:03 PM
I love the area of the tentacles
I want to see more

11 November 2004, 06:53 PM
hey...that model is very strange...that is an eye?

here is mulder asking about that alien

is strange but nice...keep working:thumbsup:

11 November 2004, 11:22 PM
Héhé... your alien is strange but truly interesting... it design agree me and the textures too... A great pleasure for my eyes... thanks Centavrus :bounce:

11 November 2004, 07:36 AM
Looking really good so far - I love that texture!

11 November 2004, 07:16 PM
hi gulchin the color is very cool in the eyes. but don't cool off..........keep going :applause:.

11 November 2004, 10:13 AM
Interesting idea.
Keep goin' and post something about the planet.

See this one>

11 November 2004, 12:34 PM
Very very nice shader! I can really see the translucency, great job, would love to seem more!

11 November 2004, 01:14 PM
that eyethingy is so cool!, very impressive texturing, love the concept so far

11 November 2004, 10:33 PM (

Thank you all very dear friends for last comments,i am happy for incredible job that you do and for that you help each other and me! that is texturing/rendering test for Magnet. i am not yet shure but its something...

11 November 2004, 11:50 PM
Hi Gulchin,

you got a very nice test here... The texture looks like costing a lot of worktime...
Maybe one little crit: Strong light as u have here is becoming overxposed if the camera direction goes straight in the light, so the light emission in the middle of your sphere should be much brighter! ...but this is only a small thing, I know u will do it right!
Anyhow i like your style a lot, Gulchin:applause:

Very cool thread here. Best wishes and have fun:bounce:

11 November 2004, 12:18 AM
Whoa for the effect. You are conveying really the feel of energy flowing, exactly like you hinted in your first sketches. I'm liking this a whole lot, very very cool work.

A kiss!

11 November 2004, 12:24 AM
 Dear friends i am fun of good articles and here is greatest one written by Grag Martin "Capturing Heaven" (14.4 mb PDF): (

"..In order to bring to you the best possible visual and explanatory guide to space that I could, I've included high-res imagery throughout the article. The images and illustrations are at a modestly compressed 250dpi..."

Hope it will help you in your works in this contest!

11 November 2004, 01:09 AM
Very nice work, the composition seems very interesting, but I agree with Wazar. There is still missing a point of interest, some other action, or characters that interest the audience into seeing your image. Anyway it is looking great!

11 November 2004, 06:16 AM
Very nice work, I love the shaders you have created. The overall concept is out there but very kewl. Thanks for the tutorial on translucency. I keep trying to create tutorials as I go with my entry. Only like 50 some odd jpg updates so far :P keep up the great work.

11 November 2004, 02:14 PM
Very nice work :) I like the planet concept. very unique :)

11 November 2004, 02:39 PM
Looks great! Love that little glow on the sides

11 November 2004, 05:07 PM (

Alien houses will look like this (but it will be pity to destroy them in end)

11 November 2004, 05:20 PM
:deal: I have small amusing lesson on texturing for you - I has developed it recently.
When you have free time you can simply knock on a surface of various subjects (wall, wooden chair, the glasswares etc.) .The sound will give you an idea with what there should be a surface of your objects from which of materials it is possible them make. You must feel the surface and talk with it :)

11 November 2004, 07:00 PM
Thanks for this lesson.... you're right... we must feel and talk with it!!! :)

11 November 2004, 07:16 PM
My Star…You have an really passion for the esoteric symbols…You are my wizard :arteest:

Amazing colors .... You Amazing ...:)

Kiss kiss

11 November 2004, 07:16 PM
I don't know you have friends like these aliens... so dreamin sketch... and thanks too for the lesson... I think tomorrow I will do some strange sound at my job... I hope to don't broke anything :scream:

I look forward to your Space opera Good Luck.

11 November 2004, 08:29 PM (

changes-i hope its better version:)

11 November 2004, 09:23 PM
Loving your last sketches... it seems quite a beautiful twist from your original idea, I'll follow up as usual.

And thanx for the "tactile-texturing" tip... hey, it works! :)

11 November 2004, 12:20 AM
Very interesting...seems like a deep ocean scene, but I like it.
Maybe the alien could fit better somewhere in the image rather than in the corner...

11 November 2004, 10:17 AM
Hi Gulchin, first of all thanx a lot for the lesson - it works as i wrote in my thread, too

...your new sketch looks very fantastix, maybe the aliens should have more focus- they are so nice, so pls show u want to work with some Depth of field? could be great within...
...I believe ( especially looking at the aliens!!!) this is going to be a very good piece of CG-work Bravo, Gulchin - looking forward to see all in place....:bounce:
best regards from germany...:wavey:

Ok, I feel like I'm hi-jacking the thread [sorry Centavrus] but... nice to meet you, Lemog, I used tons of your fantastic free tileable textures in the past (and always credited you, of course...). This is a dreaming thread.....fantastic work, sweet sweet like you!Best wishes and good luck!

11 November 2004, 02:35 PM
NIIIICE concept work CENTAVRUS, I can't wait to see some modeling. When do you start ?

11 November 2004, 03:34 PM
Centavrus, your project thread has been interesting to read. The eye being model looks strange and beautiful. The texturing and transparencies certainly give it a jellyfish-like appearance. Very cool!

11 November 2004, 05:00 PM (

Thank you very much guys - here is a little update for my aliens:) i begin to model their houses.

11 November 2004, 08:24 PM
Yes ! I like it ... a guy and a girl ! Very nice. Are you planning to animate them one day? it would be fun ! Go on like this ! You've got the right tone !

11 November 2004, 09:40 PM (

11 November 2004, 09:44 PM (

and another wip

11 November 2004, 09:48 PM
I love the look of the translucent aliens. They are great. I'm not so keen on how busy the texture is on your latest WIP. Maybe you could keep some plain areas on the model to show the translucency off?

11 November 2004, 09:50 PM
What a naughty girl you are, j/k nice updates. Keep them coming! Great use of colors. I can't wait to see the big picture!

11 November 2004, 10:37 PM
Not bad my dear bad, bad girl:) Your final concept is beautiful! I love it's colors. Alien design is also very nice. Well done on their translucency. I think that their houses can be translucent as well, but maybe with some lights shining from inside... just thinking loudly... Nice stuff! good luck, I'll be jumping in to see how you're doin'

11 November 2004, 10:45 PM
Wow.. your models are beautiful and very natural. You did an awesome job on texturing.:)

11 November 2004, 10:47 PM
2arturro: i am agree with you thanks a lot:) i was hurried to send but i thought about some translucensy and glow inside( i am lazy a little bit:blush: )

12 December 2004, 12:23 AM
Beautiful texturing goin' on, Centavrus...

Cool work, I like a lot the texturing WIP, waiting for you to post more.

12 December 2004, 06:52 PM
I love your colors, is looking very intersting. I would suggest adding some sort of internat veins and parts that are forming thesse creatures. Like a heart or some sort of nucleus. These creatures looks to me that they are kind of transparent. So if you lit them up from the back, you should be able to see the inside of them. Do not make it look gross or anything like it. Try to add some sort of beauty in the inside, like a ... glowing soft pink heart/nucleus.

BTW = good concept... very... interesting. :)

12 December 2004, 09:56 PM
mne nravitsya ata rabota,

12 December 2004, 06:26 AM
Your new aliens' are fantastic Ozer!!! Very cool. I like the organic feel - they almost look like live specimens. Please stay consisitent with that look, it is wholesome.

12 December 2004, 07:33 AM
In your entry I can breathe the freshness. All is perfect: shapes, colours and background! I like so much your style. A really masterpiece of wondering!

12 December 2004, 08:06 AM
Cool ! Very nice patern ! As "Bliz" wrote, maybe a little more transparency in some areas shall refresh the hole shape, by seing thru. Is my english understandable? Sometimes I don't understand my own self !:banghead:
Anyway ! I like very much ! good continuing !

12 December 2004, 09:14 AM
I lke your work/art Gulchin..........The whole organic appeal is very nice..........I could only suggest in this last shot that you could create a little less in patterns or design.......Allow the shape to show off the translucence more...The design or heavy patterns takes away from the fluid glows and translucent look you are after.......Not a big thing really, just an opinion.....I could be the only one thinking this.........In either case you are doing a real nice job here,I like the whole concept,I wish you the best in your further efforts.......:arteest: :arteest:

:deal: I have small amusing lesson on texturing for you - I has developed it recently.
When you have free time you can simply knock on a surface of various subjects (wall, wooden chair, the glasswares etc.) .The sound will give you an idea with what there should be a surface of your objects from which of materials it is possible them make. You must feel the surface and talk with it :)wow lol.. good tip... and cool stuff for your project happy bday.. few alot to cram in to one sentance... any way keep on updating!
