this civilization has become ignorant and complacent. Now the time has come, they have to pay...
sorry, I know that this image does not give you a view to the story above but wait a little bit....
10 October 2004, 07:58 PM
Excellent image. Can''t wait for the rest of the story. gl hf man.
10 October 2004, 08:15 PM
a little sketch to get an idea of the scene
10 October 2004, 12:35 AM
this here is a first landspace test
10 October 2004, 12:38 AM
here are some tests around the cityscape, where the action will happen
10 October 2004, 12:38 AM
love the first concept all tho im not sure what it is
waiting for some modeling
10 October 2004, 12:47 AM
Some very nice prelims, Moritz. I love the way you've combined monochrome renders with hand-drawn elements to give an overview of your scene, and the final pic in the set is just an awesome example of using greeble to put together an entire massive city. Look forward to seeing more!
10 October 2004, 04:54 AM
Wow, this looks promising. Great concepts. Not much to say other then keep up the good work :)
10 October 2004, 07:12 AM
thank you guys for the comments. this will keep me up bringing this project foward.
I hope to show you more of this soon. so, stay tuned
10 October 2004, 07:20 AM
your images have good composition and perspective, also the bridge fits with those airships you are making but rather than having another ladder leading to inside the ship how about making the bridge connects directly to the mechanical door.(I suggest)
rock on and good luck.
10 October 2004, 07:28 AM
yes, this is a good idea. the sketch is only for giving me (and you) an idea how the picture will look like, but the details are not worked out, yet.
I think the bridge next to the ship will look better than this "ladder", thanx
10 October 2004, 08:41 AM
The city is awsome and have a great feeling! Go on! Show me more! :bounce:
10 October 2004, 09:19 AM
wow, it's looking great so far
10 October 2004, 09:20 AM
Cool concept ! Want to see more things...
10 October 2004, 10:09 AM
looks promising, great concept and good modeling start:)
I will be watching you:twisted:
10 October 2004, 05:42 PM
so, some edits of the cityscape. I decided to let a huge "canyon" run through the metropolis. will modell more details inside this rift. adiitional I will create some more special buildings and streets inside the city
10 October 2004, 08:09 PM
Great! The image is amazing. You got it right!
10 October 2004, 08:33 PM
thats goood... awesome i mean.... i really dig those concept designs... and good start on the modeling... i'll b waatchin this one... keep it up and best of luck mate!
10 October 2004, 09:09 PM
Your concepts are really great so far. Personally, I think you should focus on the city and who lives there, or a representative of who lives there. Battles are good and wrecking stuff can be fun but I think you could have a deeper look into this civilization (before turning it into a parking lot! :)
just some thoughts,
10 October 2004, 09:19 PM
I really like your sketchs and models. They have a real grandoise feeling to them. I expecially like that cityscape. The squares enclosed in a cirlce is such a powerful image.
10 October 2004, 09:58 PM
im not sure, what you would offer us, but im waiting and i know i will love it:)
10 October 2004, 10:49 PM
Tottaly massive...my only thouth is if u should brake a little the repetision on city buildings..nice work on the bridge-highway? model :bounce:
10 October 2004, 01:53 AM
Very effective use of DOF!
The composition has a great deal of depth. I think that your should remeber to somehow the human stroy somewhere in this work.
I think its epic in scale, but a little empty character wise.
10 October 2004, 05:51 AM
Its so big!!! Just don't forget to put more accent buildings to uphold the futuristic look. Otherwise it is another city scape
10 October 2004, 11:15 AM
thanx for the comments so far..
when the bridges are done, i want to create some "outstanding" buildings to create a better look of the city. as you have seen, this city will only become the background, so do not focus it too much. i think the spaceships and the sky-bridge will be more focused.
10 October 2004, 04:10 PM
Moritz, I'd also suggest trying to clear some areas so there's a sense of actual streets or traffic ways running through your city. Right now, there's an impressive sense of density ... but a density that lacks just the hint of order -- a means of moving people and resources -- that would make it feel more alive.
10 October 2004, 06:21 PM
a little information for the hungry ;.
yes, at the moment iam making some room inside the city to let some place for roads and the other stuff
10 October 2004, 09:14 PM
i just do not get tired of making such pictures...:-)
10 October 2004, 09:36 PM
Very interesting composition, huge scene you got there !
In fact, you really motivate me with that cityscape, i also have to model a huge city with a thousand of buildings for my Space Opera but i never did that before
Keept it up i can't wait to see more details ! :buttrock:
10 October 2004, 10:46 PM
Once again great concept! I have one suggestion and I hope you take this constructively. Judging by the background in these latest concepts you want to add mountins/hillside to them. What would be cool is if there were no mountins, only a flat desert of "nothing", perhaps only faint traces of landscapes are found far off in the distance, or signs of what was once habitable land. I just feel that the mountains are giving it a sense of security, the entire city is surrounded by massive walls and gates, by placing mountins around in the background it doesn't give the walls as much of a defensive feeling as an empty/deserted background would.
Hope this helps. Take this which ever way you feel is best for you. :) Great work!
10 October 2004, 11:17 PM
I agree with AirbORn,... the background moutains compete with your city for dominance of the visual image.
On a differnt note, I must say, what I find lacking in your concept is a connection. Sure it is a city, and a very large and complex one, but what am I supposed to feel about it? Should I hate it, or be afraid of it, is it helpfull or is it an obstacale? I find it hard to empathize at any level with this monolithic structure, and not mearly because in the 3d realm I have become desentatized to monolithic structures, but I can not see any universal pull from the image. Quite bluntly I have nothing in common with this large city.
Perphaps as it has been mention, if it had more "life" (ex. include living details such as traffic, pollution, adversiment, litter, concentrations of people etc. etc. ) I could relate this, as it speaks to some of my referances to what a "large" city is "supposed" to look like.
Addtionally, it would help to have some kind of preceptable human presance, not only perhaps to give this comp. more scale, but to also add a bit of emotive drama to the whole scene.
Visually I am liking the look of the city. Considering that this is in a dessert enviorment, what I right away begin to get referances and conotions ( espeacilly considering these troubled modern times) to Islamic art. I think you should check out www.islamicart.com (http://www.islamicart.com)for futher refreance, and I think this may go a long way in providing a bit more "life" to your scene.
Buena suerte amigo.
10 October 2004, 11:59 PM
Beautiful concept, very much in-theme. And I like a lot your preliminaries.
10 October 2004, 07:05 AM
Wow, I love your city - especially the wall around it and the canyon in the middle. Your inspiring me with your work...which I think is a lot of what this challenge thing is all about.
Thanks for sharing your work, I look forward to more!
10 October 2004, 08:15 AM
first of all I would like to thank all of you, for your c & c.
The reason that this city looks cold and empty will change soon. What you see is the first render-test for the brackground. Later I will try to create all those things you have mentioned, but at this time I have to create the base for those details. There will come smoke, destroyed buildings, transportation & vehicles and more detailled buildings, not only those monoloithic "clumps" you see at the moment ;-)
concerning to the hills:
I see, after I read the thread, that those hills do not fit really. The effect of the walls loose their weight, so a lower terrain (desert, flat rollings hills or somet.) would fit better.
10 October 2004, 01:37 PM
hello moritz, i think your concept is very nice....i love the city, because it looks like LA in terminator 2 :) i´m very expectationful...and i hope you will fulfill this!
what are your inspirations?
10 October 2004, 03:30 PM
Moritz, if the new building you've got on the righthand side is any indication, this is going to be an absolutely fabulous cityscape once you get more of the "place holders" replaced with actual structures. It's going to be fascinating to see how many detailed structures you need before the illusion is convincing, since I can't imagine replacing every last block with a custom building -- you'd be at this for months! One quick question: can you post a poly count, and give us updates on the total as you proceed? I'm really, really curious to find out how many it takes to pull off the illusion. Best of luck!
11 November 2004, 11:06 AM
this is a first attempt to create a unit of the attacking forces. These fighters will start out of the big carriers (which will follow:-)
11 November 2004, 03:05 PM
Nice Concept ! Look forward to seeing more steps http://www.adel3d.com/lamp.gif
11 November 2004, 03:16 PM
another spacecraft for the scenario..
11 November 2004, 04:06 PM
and one more..
11 November 2004, 04:49 PM
Barracuda looks fantastic. Nice choice of style and design in the presentation of these ship concepts. Xerxes? Is that a scientific name or inspired by System Shock?
11 November 2004, 10:25 PM
also I have played System Shock, the name is originally from the old persian king, Xerxes, ca. 200 B.C. /
11 November 2004, 10:43 PM
This is some of the most interesting work i've ever seen.. drool.
11 November 2004, 12:17 AM
11 November 2004, 12:18 AM
as you can see, I just need many spaceships / aircrafts
11 November 2004, 01:04 AM
Wow, so much great work it's hard to believe you can do that all now. But, with what others have done here I totally believe it. Great job looking forward to seeing the final image!
11 November 2004, 07:06 AM
Really nice, I love the cell shading to present the different spaceship !
11 November 2004, 09:45 AM
Totally amazing ship designs !!
I really like the japaneese futurist style, hard edges and lot of details, very nice
It will definitely be one of the greatest concepts to see here, keep it up man !
11 November 2004, 12:36 PM
Wonderful sship designs! And the cityscape looks massive!
11 November 2004, 03:50 PM
started to texture "ramirez"..
long way to go
11 November 2004, 09:41 AM
Nice textures. But why do you have such a low polycount for your ship? Why don't you model some parts of the texture! It looks extremely low-poly right now :)
I think you should add some more modelling on your ship.. But again maybe you're using it only for distant views :)
11 November 2004, 12:59 PM
yes, you are right! i blended the details out, so i only have the hull! the final obj. will get more details!
11 November 2004, 10:40 PM
after texturing, iam starting to create some more details for the hull
11 November 2004, 10:58 PM
Nice job. Nice detail work on the ship and textures. You have a great concept going here. I like it alot. :applause:
11 November 2004, 11:41 PM
Hey I like it ...is a nacie work...The textured ship looks realy great ...and the city what can I say AMAZING ....
I be waching your porogress
11 November 2004, 12:03 AM
LOL when I first looked at that ship on the first page I thought it acutally was way more ploys then when I saw the wire. Awesome job man. I was about to crap my pants if someone textured a 500,000 ploy ship already ;p
11 November 2004, 09:25 AM
 You were right on the texture! Does fit like a glove!
And what? Low poly? No way!:bounce:
11 November 2004, 02:12 PM
WOW!!! Slow down, I missed the last 3 posts, and dammmm are they good. I really like your drawings, and your modeling and texturing looks amazing. I can't wait to see how all of this looks once it is put together.
Keep up the great work!
11 November 2004, 02:23 PM
thank you for your comments.. iam very glad, that you like these shots of this spacecraft.
this keeps me up, working further on this project.
11 November 2004, 02:40 AM
Not to beat on a dead horse but your ship is far to low poly for use in a final entry.
Are you also planing on creating civilian ships for the citizens of the great city???
11 November 2004, 09:43 AM
wait a little bi.. it will become more detailled, this is a low-res for the background
11 November 2004, 12:33 AM
started to texture the cityscape. C&C are welcome, especially concerning the colours of the buildings
11 November 2004, 01:44 AM
This is amazing to me.
My inclination with the building colors would be to make them various shades of just one hue, at a distance the atmosphere would overpower the individual building colors and make them look like various shades of a single color. Maybe adding some sort of atmospheric effect would be a good way to accomplish this, then the closest buildings would show some variation in hues while the distant ones would look more monotone.
Keep it going. This is going to be a good one.
11 November 2004, 08:30 AM
Nice start on texturing :). Agree with Crusty_Butt on the color variations matter. Keep it up
11 November 2004, 11:29 PM
hey i like this city... nice work man... keep it up
11 November 2004, 03:04 PM
really very big scene... and full of details... you could add some space ships to give life to your scene...
11 November 2004, 03:14 PM
I agreee with the critic about the effect of color saturation and distance. Also the city scape seems a bit generic. These buildings need some varieation to stand out more. Also I think that the large cityscape is a bit to homogenous. In real live cities rarely look so much the same in every direaction.
11 November 2004, 07:42 PM
I like, I like. Keep it up my friend. I hope in the final composition you add a littl bit more room to the background, and the sky too. It feels very tight in the last post. :)
11 November 2004, 08:03 PM
Verry interesting concept, great city and I love the Ramirez ship
I think just that you need more variety and more details for the buildings, at hires we will see that they look similar...
Keep it up
11 November 2004, 01:47 PM
I disagree with everybody, because I like some homogeneousity in your town to give a sense of a new, let me say, Jerusalem (the wall give me the idea) and in that city the construction and the buildings form an homogeneous mass. just my humble opnion.
11 November 2004, 01:54 PM
the colors definetely give u a sense of possible future scenario.
a story line might be something where eccentricity is against the law because it promotes all 'negative' things that brought the human civilization down eons before
11 November 2004, 10:36 PM
Iam very happy, that my work is worth, that you talk about it:-)
first, the last render shot is only a part of thw whole comp. the city is only the background for the final pic. there, a dogfight between those spaceships and a evacuation of the city is the main plot. Iam thinking to let a char stand in the middle of a bridge (this one of the first pic) who should be like an symbolic icon. sounds difuse and it is:-) At the moment Iam thinking about, how to put those themes togehter , so that every element is good in scene.
But I agree that the city lookes a little bit to conform, i will reduce the colours and add some free space beteen those blocks. later I will try to destroy half of the city and put some crashed spaceships into it. currently iam working at some explosion and smoke rendering. maybe I can show you more next time.
once again, Iam really thanlful for your comments, helps me a lot!
11 November 2004, 11:01 PM
Really like the work u've done with the RAMIREZ ship..very clever and at the same time simple to understand...keep going..i think we will see something grand at the final
11 November 2004, 12:05 AM
image for looting out the right camera, notice that the spacecrafts are only for test, final image will show more of these;-)
11 November 2004, 02:26 AM
hey thats great. Is a fantastic city, it seems to be an industrial city.
keep working in the textures and ligthig
11 November 2004, 02:30 AM
You have some nice scope and scale for sure.......I think grand is in........I think that keeping some primary more detailed pieces/models in the foreground to middle areas will be vital......So far I like what I see,I'll be checking to see more as you go further Moritz...........:arteest:
11 November 2004, 12:46 PM
working on the texture for the anti-air units! C&C welcome
11 November 2004, 03:09 PM
looks very nice
your textures fit pretty good, how did you texture that ship/anti-air unit ?
do you use some texturing/mapping plugins ? or is it just max unwrap ?
please post some screenshots & keep up the good work :)
11 November 2004, 03:25 PM
wireframe for interests!
11 November 2004, 03:26 PM
11 November 2004, 03:27 PM
here it is!
11 November 2004, 04:59 PM
your work and I like your idea a lot and I think that you are one of few people in this competition that is original I encourage.
11 November 2004, 05:03 PM
hello again I, think that to the design it is necessary him a little but of light, but in fact the design is very good and the esenary imagines.
that it should be an entire work of art
11 November 2004, 09:14 AM
Texturing and composition looks fantastic!
Waiting for updates :)
11 November 2004, 02:12 PM
wow looking great, I haven't visited in a while, but the latest updates are very impressive
11 November 2004, 05:12 PM
wow man...that looks fantastic. i really like this ship, is very nice. The texture is good
11 November 2004, 06:23 PM
Love it! Just love it! Xerxes rocks:thumbsup: For me textures are perfect, not to dirt, not to clean:bounce:
Could you give me some advices in this matter? because I'm also fighting with textures.
11 November 2004, 06:29 PM
! impressive model !!!
11 November 2004, 07:07 PM
wow man, that scene is really looking epic.. and great job on the ship textureing...what else can i say... gr8 model, gr8 texture, great atmosphere... :buttrock:  rock on dude
11 November 2004, 08:34 AM
it´s very big fun to work on this project cause of all your motivating replies. Currently I starting to texture the last 3 ships and then i will start to create the foreground for the image. Meanwhile Iam thinking about to change the theme of the pic a little bit. Mabye the bridge wont take the main sapect, I will put a platform like a hangar in front, where a pilot takes his seat in xerxes-> so I got a char and a ship in more detail
11 November 2004, 09:59 PM
very good texturing:bounce:
11 November 2004, 10:03 PM
Nice update Moritz................Looking nice.A cross of a fighter jet and a space ship......or a future jet........Either way it looks very nice, like the textures too, your doing a very nice job here, keep at it hard............:arteest:
11 November 2004, 10:53 PM
I like your xerxes!
Your textures look like it's a pretty old vehicle used for some lightyears of spacetravel, well done.
Altgough I like your model, it seems a little fragile for a fighter...meaning it doesn't look bad enough (in case you want it to look mean)....
By the way your first sketch was giving a very good mood, revealing not too many of the scenery, but yet enough to make you longing for what comes....
11 November 2004, 12:40 PM
here i go, a pilot for xerxes mabye. a found an old toy-figur from my younger cousin, so i took it and started to modell. is only low-poly for background but will get more detail.
11 November 2004, 02:04 PM
11 November 2004, 01:35 AM
just modelling the char along...
much to do
11 November 2004, 01:48 AM
Keep it coming Moritz,,,,,,Nice addition,and I like the WIP,it has potential,nice additions planned too......Overall a solid plan as well,go to it hard.........looking nice.........
11 November 2004, 02:39 AM
Wow, those ships are awesome man! Very cool, specially that last one Xerxes! But the pilot, I mean, what's up with that big green...well, you know, that a look at his crotch. :scream: peace!
11 November 2004, 03:07 AM
OMG! Look at those ship designs. :) Great work! I love them. I'll be looking forwrad to more progress!
11 November 2004, 10:49 AM
Dammit you can really model and texture...!
Great stuff man!
11 November 2004, 11:19 AM
closeup of the low-poly head
11 November 2004, 11:20 AM
just mr. pilot, modelling
11 November 2004, 04:28 PM
on and on and on and on and on and....
11 November 2004, 06:17 PM
very nice models and texturing
11 November 2004, 01:23 PM
Awesome! Love the illustrative style, textures. Yet another thread to subscribe to.
12 December 2004, 08:49 AM
thanx for comments,
still working on textures for the pilot.
further I have to get more detail concerning the legs.http://www.cgtalk.com/newreply.php?do=newreply&noquote=1&p=1773334#
12 December 2004, 10:11 AM
veery nice pilot!
I like the belt stuff.... makes him look preety realistic....
will look good even from distance.....
can't wait for textures on this one!!
12 December 2004, 10:41 AM
I really love your "Xerxes" spaceship ! Modeling texturing and lightning are great !
12 December 2004, 01:14 AM
started after a break to create a texture for the low-poly pilot. this is a very early texture, but only to give you some impressions
12 December 2004, 09:35 AM
the texture looks very promisiing so far!
its a nice contrast to the brighter belt stuff.... when you make the texture for the belt, you should keep that contrast!
12 December 2004, 10:00 AM
Nice start on the pants! I think from a mid distance view it'll still look fine!!
Keep it up!
12 December 2004, 05:23 PM
after a long brake, i just found some time to nearly complete the texture for the marine. hope to get the head tonight..
12 December 2004, 06:35 PM
so, finally he is done. so i can go on texturing the spaceships..
12 December 2004, 06:43 PM
Great guy! First impression is that he is a high detailed high poly guy! Which is great. He will act very well in your scene. I'm looking forward to seeing him in action:twisted:
12 December 2004, 03:00 PM
Nice model man! I think he will great even and in a rather close view!
Agree with arturro ..... action!
12 December 2004, 11:44 PM
just some ideas for a weapon for the imperial ground troups. i know, it´s very low poly but it should be shown from distance
12 December 2004, 12:17 AM
All this looks great  love your textures
Keep up the grand art!
12 December 2004, 07:51 AM
marine is looing great, that weapon is looking very cool also.. for low poly it still delivers alot of details
12 December 2004, 07:04 PM
That pilot is looking extremely good. I wish my modeling/texturing skills were that good
The weapon on the right is my favorite. That other one looks cool too, it reminds me of the weapons the guys used in Alien2. BTW considering the way you "handle" that weapon maybe you could make the barrel a little longer (some kind of Alien homage  )
Keep up the good work.
BTW check my entry. Link is at the sig :bounce:
12 December 2004, 07:10 PM
wow, ur weapons r really cool!!... nice modeling and textureing.. wery well dont man.. keep up the good works.. i wanna c this all done...
12 December 2004, 11:25 PM
love your style and detail man...
12 December 2004, 02:22 PM
working on a texture for the attacking forces
12 December 2004, 05:08 PM
12 December 2004, 06:36 PM
very nice texture you got there
I really want to know what you come up with for the rest of the ship
12 December 2004, 06:54 PM
here it is. nearly ready
12 December 2004, 08:24 AM
this looks awesome man! Great modeling job you`re doing there!!!
12 December 2004, 12:52 AM
Themistokles work pretty well! Only thing is that the texture is kind of dark and details aren't very visible....but maybe it's the background...
Nice going mate!! Any chance for a compo preview? :)
12 December 2004, 08:53 AM
your spaceships kick ass!!
Good models and textures!! nice
12 December 2004, 01:39 PM
at the moment iam working on the city. smoke and destroyed buldings have to be completet
12 December 2004, 10:36 PM
did the bridge and started now to create the landing port for "xerxes", just a little piece of the final comp
12 December 2004, 12:24 PM
camera angle test
12 December 2004, 01:44 PM
what a cityyyyyyyyyy..........
12 December 2004, 03:10 PM
very high detail ! can't comment anything your city is great!
12 December 2004, 08:35 PM
just a little test for me, if the smoke works... well have to finetune
12 December 2004, 08:51 PM
just went through this entire thread...looks sweet
12 December 2004, 05:36 PM
please cc, should be the background for the icy planet
12 December 2004, 05:57 PM
Nice background  it is painted or based on photos? The only thiing I don`t like is the blured clouds... they just like few aerograph drops :curious:
Great work  looking for more :bounce:
12 December 2004, 06:16 PM
just another test
01 January 2005, 12:08 AM
here a first render of two layers. chars are dummies at the moment. hope i can show you in the next days the "final" render ;-)
01 January 2005, 07:04 AM
turned nice
01 January 2005, 07:19 AM
Wow, very nice. It seems to me you are almost done.
01 January 2005, 07:58 AM
The exploded ship is really awesone  ...
01 January 2005, 08:16 PM
my congratulations, great first step:) it looks awsome
01 January 2005, 05:31 PM
working on the background, rendered some buildings and adding explosions
01 January 2005, 07:14 PM
great, but those added buildings are to strong. They should be covered with a gently distance fog. Now they focus the viewer's attention and take it from the foreground.
01 January 2005, 08:32 AM
yeah, you are right, i have to get them a little bit more to the background, look at my next pic, fog will be added!
01 January 2005, 07:18 PM
W O W !!!
01 January 2005, 10:25 AM
Amazing work, everything is perfect! just an idea though; what about adding slight motion blur to some of the running characters to give more impression of movement and haste?
MY GSO (http://www.cgtalk.com/showthread.php?threadid=180808)
01 January 2005, 01:20 PM
Very goof combination of 2D and 3D, i also , don`t like going into details, that can be done in notime in postproduction
01 January 2005, 01:45 PM
thanx for C&C,
think i will put some blur on the chars, but remember they are only placeholders at the mom.
01 January 2005, 06:51 PM
Pretty great here mate!
I think you need some ships over the city to add to the dynamism of the scene. Nothin to crit!
Wishing the best on your entry!:)
01 January 2005, 12:12 PM
testing the final render shot. there have to be more fighters in the air plus the big carrier ships (will add them later) please post your c&C for the scene. need tipps
01 January 2005, 02:23 PM
very great detail! , i notice that , the ryhthm of solodier placement is too constant ! maybe u can put them more random , and i think the explosion color is too saturate ,maybe u working on it, sorry for my bac english!
01 January 2005, 02:47 PM
 Very impressive compo... I hope you dont angry with me to make some "touchs" to your image to show you what you could add to your scene :shrug:http://img47.exs.cx/img47/1746/moritlow7wl.jpg
01 January 2005, 03:31 PM
yeah stefgrafx, you know what i like. wait for my next image, you will see your ideas could be mine...;-)
01 January 2005, 04:25 PM
This image is great! I think that the added details that stefgrafx has put in works great for your composition. I only have a couple suggestions that I feel might help. If you keep the big explosion then you need to darken the sky and background elementsand maybe a hint of color. This will help the explosion to be more intense. The second thing is the forground ship and soliders are blending into the background too much and if you darken them I think if will help separate them from the background. The last thing is the exploding (bus) great effect but I think the shape could be a little less square. I hope this helps.
01 January 2005, 08:19 PM
good ideas you got but tell me: what do you mean with the shape. is the big ships to low-poly. please tell me
01 January 2005, 08:57 PM
I am refering to the main ship that is exploding. It looks to much like a box. I think the details on it work but I think if you adjusted the shape of the back end it would help. You have such a cool fighter ship in the forground and the shape of the bridge compositionally is working but I lose intrest when I get to the box shape. I hope this helps. I am not trying to be too critical but I see great potential in this peice.
01 January 2005, 10:37 PM
hmm, i know what you critic and i think that the ship is a little "boxy" but this is the shape of the ship. maybe i should put a little explosion to the front of the bridge to hide a little bit the box-shape
01 January 2005, 12:54 AM
added some details from the c&c. please need some more of these really good tipps ;-)
01 January 2005, 01:17 AM
Looking really cool. That scene looks massive in the background. Great job! Keep it up!
01 January 2005, 02:16 AM
Man you got my WOW! :bounce:
The composition is screaming action!!
One little suggestion would be to add some general persons screaming to their troops...showing where to go or what to watch..... I think it'll add to the whole action setting...
Great work mate....Really impressing....
01 January 2005, 02:31 AM
I've nothing to complain about your composition! Lot of action and lot of fun! The only detail I see that looks weird is the position of the right arm of the second soldier from the right at bottom. I think his arm should be pointed out from, not straight aligh with his body.
01 January 2005, 09:29 AM
Great Work man! The explosions and the motion blur give a very nice feel for the action. This is really an invasion war. I see this thread for the first time, don´t know why but I´m happy I didn´t miss it. Stunning work.
The only thing is that the foreground part has nearly the same saturation as the background city. That makes it a bit harder to seperate all the objects from each other.
[Ich sollte devinitiv mal öfter bei euch Wahnsinnigen aus der 3D-Abteilung vorbeischauen. Ein hervoragendes Ergebnis]
01 January 2005, 09:57 AM
i understand the critic but i tested some different background / foreground sat. but I dont want the background too cloudy or the foreground to dark. maybe I have to find a alternative betwenn these two probs.
01 January 2005, 11:05 AM
I like very much. the only thing is the building exploding in the background...
there is so much action in the foreground...I think that the building is unnecessary.
what do you think?
Grat work! Great work!
01 January 2005, 02:39 PM
Your work is excellent, I especially love the cityscape, the explosion of the building in the foreground and your overall design.
If i had to comment to something, I would say the people in the foreground should probably be focused in the grand explosion close to them, rather than look distracted by other stuff
01 January 2005, 03:47 PM
yeah grafos, it seems a little bit so that the soliders look uninterested.;-) will work on it.
concerning to the biulding: i think it is important to show that the whole city is involved by the attack an not only the starships
01 January 2005, 07:00 AM
Awesome progress here
If I have to make one critic I don`t like the "elements explosion" on the big ship on the left, the elements looks too flat, like just polygons... if you have the time try to make some solid elements going from the inside of the ship...
I`m looking forward for your final great picture :bounce:
01 January 2005, 11:33 PM
hope this is it. tried to put some of the C&C into the image. thinking about the generell colour scheme and satuartion. maybe some C&C can help me
01 January 2005, 12:12 AM
A lot of drama there mate, looks good.
I'd have to agree with one of the other guyson the foreground characters, they maybe need some tweaking. Perhaps tilt their heads towards the explosion? It might help reinforce the focus on the main event in the image.
Also they're doing a lot of different things, I'd maybe keep the feeling of panic in them, that works well, maybe lose the guy firing the gun? I'm not sure what he's firing at.
It's a grand piece, good luck :)
01 January 2005, 02:53 AM
No crit's from me hre ...this is my first visit to your thread and I must say..this is an impressive image....very vibrant...very balanced....I may do something with the larger plume of smoke on the right though....seems ..umm..."placed" ...somehow....not sure how to explain...I know time is short...the importatnt thing...you have a great final image...if you get to the small stuff or not ... ...cheers..
01 January 2005, 03:02 AM
thats amazing.another great piece that keeps within the concept of ths challenge.great work man :)
01 January 2005, 08:30 AM
I have to agree with you, that the soliders do not seem to be shocked by the explosion. when i get time, i´ll try to fix it.
the critic concerning the smoke is right i think, I do not have to dsitance at the moment to see such things:-). think i have to make the smoke more fitable for the colour scheme.
thank guys and keep it up...
01 January 2005, 09:06 AM
Fantastik pic, very realistic, with many details, very good work
01 January 2005, 10:56 AM
Well good points have been made, but one more idea.. not sure f you find time for that, but you could add some red emergency lights on the platform. They could light the ships on the platform to give them uniqe mood. I think it would be very good to your image. You could even try to paint them in post fi don't have time. Those lights on the platform would also make it more visible ad diferent from the background.
01 January 2005, 01:00 PM
The flame infront the soldiers gun is too big, make it smaller, more transparent, and more like muzzle flash then explosion.
01 January 2005, 08:08 PM
thanks for C&C. Think I will put the soldier with the gun out of the image (nobody knows where he is shooting at:-)
also i will kill some explosions in the city and reduce its glow.
the thing with the red lights is pormissing. will make some test if its works (and I can handle it:-)
keep it on @ all!
01 January 2005, 09:22 PM
 :applause:
(enough said, shockingly good)
01 January 2005, 06:26 PM
so here it is! I changed some things you guys told me and I agreed :-) the soldier which fired is away and another one took his place which points the impact. I let one day pass and If nothing new from me (or you) come, I put it up
01 January 2005, 06:30 PM
great job.all the best mate
01 January 2005, 09:53 PM
:applause: :applause: :applause: :applause:

01 January 2005, 10:02 PM
Very awesome work here, love the explosion. Theres a real feel of chaos in it.
01 January 2005, 11:00 PM
Fantastic work man !!
just a little thing on the left side of the image, behind the wing of the ship on the platform.
The brown spaceship in the grey BG is a bit strange...keep looking at it...
don't know if it is a layer but, for me.. if you could change that..it's perfect.
01 January 2005, 05:08 PM
that's some beautiful work. very impressive.
01 January 2005, 07:59 PM
Simply outstanding... a big scale war at it's fullest

01 January 2005, 10:10 AM

I think that is it. Due to some ciritics, time runnings out and I have to put It up.
thanks for all of your help and good luck to everyone else in the competition.
Hope to see some of you in the top 15;-)
keep it up
01 January 2005, 10:25 AM

Congratz Man! Beautiful Image!
01 January 2005, 12:41 PM
Looks good, glad you changed the foreground characters a little, it really helps the focus of the image.
It's got real drama to it, well done on the finished piece and good luck.
01 January 2005, 01:33 PM
I really like the smokes and explosions! These give so much dynamic. Wonderful workpiece!
01 January 2005, 06:58 PM

Dramatic final; I don't know why for explosion in blue gamma, not yellow, seems more dramatic for me. good luck

01 January 2005, 02:54 PM
hey guys, thanks for all the comments. iam very glad that most of you like it. I know the final pic is not perfect, but I would be ill if I say it was:-) I wish everyone else a great challange and hope to hear and see more from you other 3d-maniacs
01 January 2005, 03:17 PM
I like your image ,very dramatic and action packed. The main ship exploding may be a little too big for my tastes but overall this is an excellent image.
01 January 2005, 07:04 PM
A moment of the battle for the empire ;)
Excellent details and good composition:thumbsup:
01 January 2005, 08:31 PM

Congrats man... awesome job!
02 February 2005, 03:59 PM
POW! What a great piece.. the only thing that bothers me a bit is
the motion blur of the debris of the big explosion... somehow don't
seem right ...otherwise, as i said :bounce:
and congrats dude
02 February 2005, 05:51 PM
Congratulations on a great piece!
