This is just the machine sketch

10 October 2004, 10:48 PM
That's pretty cool. the tails could be very effective in your image. The top part may be too symmetrical but thats my opinion. It's a little difficult to picture this in a different viewpoints but you'll probably do other sketches of it. cool. great stuff.

10 October 2004, 06:29 PM
i like how clean the style is in this piece. it would be interesting to see an entry done in a more design- oriented manner than painterly, if that makes sense.

10 October 2004, 06:32 PM
cool, feels like a brain trapped in a machine with tentacles like nerves or something. I like the cleanness of the design.

Thanks for the opinions, I need to do more sketchs with different viewpoints and also colors.

Fine design, real alien shape ! I immediatly imagine it's a plan sent by unknown intelligence to learn us how to buid a ship ...

Ok, in the next weeks I'm going to work in this image and also in the last sketch.
That image is almost finished but I want to add something more and create a really Grand Space Opera.
Critics and opinions please.

12 December 2004, 02:38 AM
I love almost everything about this new image, but I have a few issues:

a) It almost feels like a vector graphic, very 2D. It would be great if you could add some sense of dimension to it (maybe shift your camera so we're looking up at these a bit instead of straight on from the side?).

b) I don't have anything that gives me any sense of scale (foreground element). If you were to add a cityscape to the bottom. or better yet a some ships flying towards / between these alien objects (have one start close and the others off in the distance) that would really help to give these crafts / beings another reference point. Even an outcropping of land would help... just some foreground element that has something that we can relate to.

c) I think the 2d-ness of this image also comes from the similar palette, some slight tweaks to either the ship/alien colour or the space colour may help to separate and add depth. Fading out the intensity of the blacks on the ships in the MG / BG would help as well. Have the closest ship / alien have the most saturated colours.

regardless, love the design and the feel. can't wait to see where it goes from here...

Thank you very much cgkrusty  . I'm agree with you according to the dimension, the sense of scale and the contrast.
Yes I'm going to add some ships flyring but first I need to work in the point a) and c).
Very good ideas.

More details, more changes and more work to do.

12 December 2004, 08:54 PM
Hi Leonardo,

I like your design and the shapes you created... the only critic I have about the machine is thats maybe it`s too empty inside the sphere... by adding something like a gas cloud you`ll maybe have a better interesting look here :curious: but it`s only my opinion...

Nice work  I`m looking forward to see more :bounce:

12 December 2004, 04:34 AM
hey, i like the sense of refinement and the slight turned postion of the ones on teh right side. do you think you'll do something like that with the two on the left? maybe turned ever so slightly off from the center, etc? it creates a good sense of variation.

ered dium
12 December 2004, 06:10 AM
Thank you Nomad and Hillartsympho for your opinions. I will add something inside the sphere (a gas, a small city, etc.) and also more spaceships in the background (probably with this change I can create a better sense of variation). Now I'm designing new ships for the image but these are only quickly sketchs. Sorry my eng...

12 December 2004, 02:32 PM
Great artwork!
Simple yet effective:thumbsup:

But you should check out your monitor brightess. Some parts look bit dreamy, but in some areas black is burning thourgh the picture.

I personally prefer dreamy colors like in the middle.

Of course you could test out different kinds of contrast values for that final touch

12 December 2004, 03:51 PM
This is extremely interesting for me as I enjoy deep sea creatures like jelly fish; and this one happens to look like one. It's true that the ocean is very much like space so giving the relationship for a nice way to go. I enjoy the colors you have used an cannot wait to see the end result of you image!

Your post for Wednesday, 22 December 2004 has a very unique and original feel to it. The design of the organism feels so it actually exists somewhere in time and/or space...on another plane of existence...I really think that this should be the central portion of your image...but of course, i dont know your direction. I Just wanted to let you know that This particular portion of your idea has a very uncommon feel...very unique. You may want to pull out the color wheel and try some different color combos...split compliment, double split compliment...the monochromatic looks great...just imagine multicolor. Nice concept.

I'm trying to do something different. I add more spheres with a few changes, like color, from the rest.
Critics are welcome.

01 January 2005, 10:42 PM
 I like the additions . Almost feels like a bubbles.

I presume that your new set has blueish light? Is it quite finished yet?

If that will be the new direction i would like to disagree slightly. Overall red ambience would be the dominant factor in your picture. You could use colors with slight red in them. One idea would be that the inside of the jelly bubble would be blueish. That would work.
Dont bring the blue light outside the jelly bubble.

Good luck! Happy new year :)

01 January 2005, 10:43 PM
I like the abstract shapes. My advice now would be to work on your rendering of the various objects in the scene, make them a bit more 3D. It also might be nice to add an element that the viewer can relate to, like a small spacecraft (like in your sketch), or something similiar. Be careful not to isolate the viewer too much.

Falcor thanks for your opinion, at this moment I'm working in the light, colors and also some shadows. I need to check different shades....

Blackarts thank you, yes I'm adding something in the blackgroud and front of the image, like the spacecratf and maybe with shadows and more details looks more 3D.

Sorry my english...

01 January 2005, 09:07 AM
Quite good. Detailing and color scheme look great.

I agree with blackarts...there needs to be some point of reference to give the image scale. I think you could also create more depth between the elements by forcing some atmosphere (although there is none in space...) and by overlapping some more elements. The image looks a bit bidimensional.

Keep 'em comin'

01 January 2005, 06:28 PM
Hi, Your project is original, there is fairyhood...

01 January 2005, 07:09 PM
this is original idea .you could add a little new color maybe a little blue to make it more unmonochromatic (?) Hi, Your project is original, there is fairyhood...[/QUOTE]

ered dium
01 January 2005, 11:35 PM
Lapazpaki: I'm agree with you, it looks too similar, I think that if I add the spaceships with another colors...I can create a better unmonochromatic image.

Tranchefeux: Thanks for your reply but what do you mean with fairyhood?

Andreas: Your are right, I need some point of reference, and the best option could be spaceships flying around the sphere machines.

LaRoyceJ: Your idea is very original ("...the organism feels so it actually exists somewhere in time and/or space...on another plane of existence..."), I have some problems with the different color combos jej...

Fabianv: Thank you, I like your opinion.

01 January 2005, 11:45 PM
This illustration has a beautiful design to it and i like looking at it very much. My only concern is that I am not feeling any sense of drama at the moment.

ered dium
01 January 2005, 02:22 AM (

More spaceships and tests. 1° I need to add more shadows to the spheres and create a better 3D machines. 2° I'm going to work in the new spaceships and the attack.
Opinions please.

01 January 2005, 08:55 AM
Starting to get a real sense of depth and scale in this piece now. I think if you can work up the 3D-ness of the sphere objects and continue to work on the sense of vastness in the atmosphere / space BG rendering this piece will be very successful!

Great work!

This is another version without spaceships, I added the missiles and changed the position of spheres. I'm goig to put more details but I don't know what image looks better.

01 January 2005, 11:23 PM
Nice mood in the scene and I particularly like the colors. Your painting style is great, nice and fluid! Good luck mate! :)

Almost done, I just add the explosion and more smoke details.
Critics wecolme.

01 January 2005, 11:01 PM
hey, great pic with amazing designs... but one thing that ruins it a bit is the smoke trails, the dont looks as if they quite match the colour scheme... and also prolly a personal preference, i think it needs more contrast in general and between the background and the ship in the middle, as they sort of merge together at first sight.

i hope that will help and gud luck!

01 January 2005, 09:27 AM
I love the design work on this as well. You have very neat concepts and a good use of shading to add emphasis to your focal points. Great job!

daadaa: Thanks, I'm working in the smoke again. I have some problems with the contrast, I know that and I'm trying to sort itself out.

Very interesting, but grey smoke doesn't fit here. make it red man -will be better.

mime_evermotion maybe you are right, I'm going to try with the red smoke or some similar color.... let's see how it look.

01 January 2005, 01:47 AM
I agree from mime. Red will be best.

01 January 2005, 11:16 AM
I'm always surprised of the works quality.
Very interesting and original athmosphere.
Thank you for your creativity.
Good luck.

01 January 2005, 12:15 PM
As I see it, I'm missing something to balance the red dominance - Maybe a navy blue toneover from the bottom up?

I like it tho'... there's a sense of grace in the middle of all the drama. Very appealing.

Good job so far ... are you going to make it within time? I'm starting to feel the pressure myself hehe :D

01 January 2005, 05:14 PM
Yeah man great work so far. Love the orb designs. The only crit I have is that the smoke looks out of place right now. If the atmosphere is that dense with red light particles, the smoke would reflect that.

01 January 2005, 12:25 AM
x_se7en_x and Levan: Thanks for your opinions, very useful. Now I'm doing color tests (with the smoke) but I can't find a red color that go together with the image. I also trying to do the smoke more clear but with the grey color.

Gryphon: Thanks, yeah maybe I can try the navy blue toneover. I don't have much time (for the school) but It's almost finished and I'm just adding more details.

Raļ's: Thank you very much :scream:
