View Full Version : Character: Male wearing sarong

Hello everyone this is a character i was working on a couple months ago. i was trying to nail down the anatomy as best as possible. let me know what you think.

Good work in general with the anatomy. My only crit is in the shoulder zone. I don't like how the chest meets the shoulder, it's too high for me. I think the shoulder has to be a bit more wide in the vertical direction.
I can see why you did that with the shoulders, his arms are raised. I'd pay attention to the muscle that goes from behind the jaw, to the top of the sternum. It's a little more pronounced. I like the drapery.

I like it. Everyone out there seems to do (impossibly big-breasted) females. You did a nice rendition of the male form. And a very adequate cloth.

thank you for the compliments everyone.
Woody 3d: ive updated the shoulder area and taken another render of it. let me know what you think. p.s. ive enjoyed seeing your work for quite some time. really nice stuff man!
sundialsvc4: thanks again for the compliments they are much appreciated.
jim: ive adressed that issue and will be posting it up the next update.
thanks again everyone.

Thanks for that! For me it looks better now. I will maybe move a bit more the showlers lower part... Or maybe is just cause the arms are raised... For me looks ok, but I have to recognice I'm not an expert about the male anathomy, so check some references, but anyway, all the body looks very nice.

wow, thats realy nice....top job, cant realy find a problem with it..adart from maybe the falloff on the cloth is a little ott
im sure it will look great with some better lighting

very nice, i've watched this progress nicely, kiel wanted me to crit, sooo i think the septum is a bit thin, looks a little odd, and the ear is buggin me partially the thickness, and just the form of it.... anatomy of every thing else looks good, belly button geometry and texture map look like they might be off a tad. Dig the jesus pose. cloth is really nice, maybe make where the red and green combine, havin there be some sort of seam or something.
looks pretty awesome though.... thoughts of a background, or is this a stand alone piece?

Hi RicardoAriza, very professional treatment of this concept, well done.
I think his ears should be thicker and they may stick out more than necessary.
His nose could be less straight and the septum (in btwn nostrils) looks like it could be wider.

hello everyone thanks compliments and crits. its great to have some helpful fresh eyes taken a look at this.
mushroomgod: good call! im going to toy with the falloff on the cloth to make it look a little better. i wasnt sold on it myself so lets see what i can do with it. oh and the lighting..thats definitely not one of my strong points. if you have any suggestions on how i could improve that it would be greatly appreciated.
onelung: im glad youve had a chance to see the progress via kiel...the comments youve given me thus far through that means have helped tons...i didnt catch the septum or the ears problem til you and sumdumbguy pointed it out. im going to have tweak that out a little. the cloth im going to have to do a little revisiting on...i originally had a seam there and it just didnt look right. im not 100% satisfied with the cloth though so i might just change it back. as for a creating a scene with this guy...ever since i started texturing him ive been giving it some thought but havent nailed down anything. got any ideas?
sumdumbguy: thanks for the compliments on the presentation. im going to fix the septum and the ears problem that you pointed out. i wouldnt have caught it without you and onelung catching that.
ill post up the fixes to him sometime in the afternoon. thanks again everyone

subtle changes have been made to the sarong, septum, and ear (im curious to se if its too little or just enough). also the belly button texture problem has been fixed. let me know what you think.

Dude thats almost tits if you ask me... Speakin' of... The only thing that smacks me on the head is his wrists... What a wussy! Beef them up a bit, but not too much... I like his wide-hiped look. Goes well with the "jesus pose" I think... Its WAY beyond my modeling and texturing skills but I know what looks right and how to define right/wrong within this catagory...
Im more of a mover but I still know the human form... I guess we all do... Take a gander at his wrists... The "piece" is so good every great artist here is overlooking it... But it is there...You also could maybe beef the part of his forearm that is closer to the wrists by say six percent...
Killer texturing and modeling besides my gripe...

his oblique feels not round enough, and it doesnt indent like you have there, otherwise your anatomy is preaty good. The great things about this peice are the pose especially, very powerfull, as well as the expression of his face, skin shader is good and especially the cloth, good job so far

hello everyone sorry it taken a bit for me to reply. ive been working on other models recently but will be revising this model soon just before i cut my new demo reel.
glassefx: thanks for the crit. ive been making changes to the wrists for some time because ive had the same issue with them but i attribute it partially to the pose that he is in. the position does flatten out that area regardless of how muscular the forearm is but they do seem a little skinny. im going to see what i can do to better them.
OptimusDinkus: thanks for pointing that out. the obliques do need a bit more roundness to them. there is a bit of a line going down the center of them.
