As you can see I'm not the best when it comes to quick concept sketches.

Top Left: This on was inspired by the movie " The Fifth Element " where when three planets naturally came into alignment a sentient dark planet formed. Well this is along the same line but this time the using three planets linked in alignment together by the 3 energy beams to create the dark planet and the apperatus on top harnesses the power of the dark planet to create a wormhole. If I use this one I'll probably put a fleet of ships either coming from or going into the wormhole

Top Right: Basically just a scene of a planet being consumed by a black hole and the ensuing wave of ships escaping the planet.

Bottom Left: Kinda like a death star scene not much to say besides that If I use this one I'll be adding more than one of these ships forming a ring around the planet

Bottom Right: scene of the capital city of the rulling empire on fire and under attack but ground forces ( not shown ) and by air by the mothership with scorched corpes around a now nonfunctioning fountain.

I would really appreciate any C&C

right now I beleive I'm going to go with either top left or bottom right. Let me know what you think

Just a rough draft for a back story

" One Last Prayer"

Before the war started wave after wave of soon to be Soresian soilders traveled the many lightyears from the core worlds to the remote planet of Trelnesia Prime. To pray for victory and a safe return of their fellow comrades as well as themselves at the "blade spire of Kol'osk" which generations before had built at a gateway to a new universe which opens up once for every 840 cycles ( approx 50 earth years or once every 42,000 earth years). As the crew of the Final ship to visit T.P. exits the ship via the egress/degress ramps, the thought of the oncoming battle weighs heavy upon their minds, untill they see the spire in the distance, which dwarfs not just a ship of the fleet but the entire 500 ship battle group. instantly wiping the thought of battle from their minds and replacing it with hmmble. And as they exit from the elevator to take them below the land area on the cliff to the transport that will transport them to the spire every soldier thinks but one thought " If we could build this massive structure more than 50,000 ago there is nothing we can't do."

Thus ensuring the victory of the Soresian fleet

So it has been So it will always be.

Good ideas ezteh,
I think a stronger light source in your paintings is needed to stregthen your concepts and compositions. Build the form and shapes of your ships, worlds, landscapes, everything in terms of smaller basic shapes like spheres and boxes and try to shade and color them with a direct lightsource in mind.

Keep it up!!

10 October 2004, 12:55 AM
Thanks I also noticed the need for a stronger lightsource and more definition. If I get the time tonight I'll tweak it some more and add a lightsource and appropriate shading.

10 October 2004, 07:47 AM
your objects are a bit flattish, avoid so strong outlines, shade with color, study perspective and always start drawing sceneries with horizon line and perspective grid.

You can do it, just keep trying

10 October 2004, 06:43 PM
its great to see that you're not afraid to jump right into color sketches, some other things to think about would be individual characters and their pathos.
good job and good luck!

I've little to no one doing anything underwater so I came up with this

just a quick sketch scanned and colored in ps

still have to add ships and animal and plant life

very rought back story draft
In 3156 humankind settled a newly discovered water planet they name this planet New Pacifica in the outer edge on a distant arm of the galaxy. The Capital city of New Trident is built into the side of a seamount some 50,000 feet down, for 70 years the city lives in peace with species from the neighboring star systems but as of late the Riaan empire has been attacking The surface cities and ships of New Pacifica. Recent intellegence reports state that a massive Riaan battle fleet is amassing in a nearby system. In resopnse to this threat New trident has started amassing a fleet of newly designed Tiger-class Battle ships, In preperation of the impending attack all non-essential inhabitants are being evacuated via stingray transport shuttles to other cities, not knowing if they'll ever see there lovely city again the inhabitant are hard pressed to leave it behind.

Some sketches for a few shipps that go with my underwater scene

there is a little scale dude on the right side of each ship so you can get an Idead how big they are

10 October 2004, 12:24 PM
Nice to see a different concept. Of your last sketch I like the last image (squid) its a more abstract craft. Good luck with the 2D.

new angle and a different design for the city, still have to place ships and sea life( a few sharklike, random fishies, and maybe a reef on the sea floor)

10 October 2004, 01:01 PM
Hey, Thanks for your critque

I really like your Idea to do an underwater scene. Maybe look at photos of coral for ideas for architectural shapes. How deep is the bottom of the ocean on this world? Think about how dark it can be on the bottom, so much so that life forms must adapt accordingly. look at photos of fish that live in the marinara trench. you might actually be able to do a pretty dark scene.

good work and good luck!

10 October 2004, 04:39 AM
Thanks for the tip hillary I really like the dark idea, I incorporate that in my next concept.

I was also thinking of making my scene showing the city on the bottom of the peice then panning upwards going all the way to the surface with a scene of the amassing fleet and the far off riaan fleet approaching, all of this being watched by a person or persons on a cliff overhang as they load there gear and pick up other refugees onto a shuttle to finish the evacuation.

I don't have school the next two days so I'll work on these concepts

concept for the surface shot in my peice
