View Full Version : win XP + 2003

I have a dual xeon comp, but I was told that under win xp I can't use HT with dual processors. Is this true?

I have also been told that to overcome this issue I could use windows 2003 server, again does anyone have any experience of this? :shrug:

I use XSI and adobe products. Any advice on the subject would be great.

Thanks in advance.:)

That's odd, I've read that XP is the first MS OS to fully support Hyper-Threading. I don't see why it would have any trouble running it.

Ditto what leas5040 said. You've been mis-informed. Look around at some benchmarks. All the ones that are dual CPU setups with HT ON of OFF is running XP Pro.

BTW, Server 2k3 is basically and fundamentally Win XP Pro with all the extra server tools.

Win 2000 Pro --> Server 2000
Win XP Pro --> Server 2003

Well Win2k3 is more than just XP with extra server tools. It's designed with stability in mind, thus it loses some of its functionality with games and such (slower .. generally, sometimes they dont work at all). Not sure how that translates to 3Dapps, but I would take a guess and say that with 2k3 3Dapps might not perform as well either (not in rendering but in viewport usage). Also, Win2k3 fully supports NUMA, which is handy on dual Opteron based systems, it also is able to address more memory, etc.
