Originally wanted to do some kind of chase or escape scene. Drew some bikers. In case you're wonderring the guy on the back has no head yet.

11-26-2004, 11:52 AM

...then i was was thinking of doing some kind of elaborate cathedral-like cityscape and dropped that idea as well.

What's going on with this thread? Every time I post something it posts it twice and in the wrong order.

I get that problem too, sometimes anyway. You make a few posts which dont show, and then after a few hours your posts appear.

trying again

11-27-2004, 09:32 PM
Decided I wanted to do a navigator messing with some kind of holagraphic map or something so I did some head sketches. possibly put her in from of a ship window with big space-scape in background. very rough.

trying again

cant wait to start painting

i think your are trying to shade the face by changing only lightning value of the color(but i don't see exactly, too small images). try to use different hue, and saturation also. and focus on the anatomy of the nose and eyes, use mirror for example. i like more pencil than color. but hey, its just the beggining :) good luck !!!:)

12-02-2004, 01:25 PM (

Decided to do some thing a bit different - a depiction of beings which send their progeny out into the universe like spores in stasis pods. I wanted to depict hundreds of these 'pods' decending on a planet. We'll see where it goes from there.

12-02-2004, 01:32 PM (

Basic layout so far. Just started noodling some craters into the moon. Going for a real clean, high-detail look. Going to try and do a bit every day. see you tomorrow.

12-02-2004, 05:01 PM
The moon looks great. Before you get to far, you might want to show the overall composition. Keep it comin.

12-03-2004, 05:56 AM (

not much time tonight. Finished moon (I hope) and added a botchy atmosphere to my planet. Took a while to get colors right.

12-03-2004, 06:18 AM
awesomeeeeeee planet! Now for the big stuff =D

12-03-2004, 06:58 AM (

trying a storm system. not sure if I like it so far.

12-03-2004, 10:04 AM
Nice background, Now what will you place in it ? Spaceshift fights ?

12-03-2004, 01:46 PM
VEEEEERRRY Nice!........i like a lot the surfece of your red planet!Moody!

12-03-2004, 09:30 PM
I think there'll be enough spaceship fight scenes going on already. Got some other direction in mind.

12-03-2004, 11:06 PM (

started building the stasis pod, in which there will be a moody figure. Want to make it kind of coffin-like. Doesn't look like much so far. A bit too round maybe I'll change that.

12-04-2004, 12:42 AM
I love your planets and atmosphere. I had a very hard time doing mine. I wouldn't have thought a spheric object would have been that hard. Be careful how much space you leave between bottom of the pod and document. I probably would bring it up just a little so you donít have a sliver of space in there. I love the feel and mood of your art.

Can't wait to see more!

12-04-2004, 05:53 AM (

Adding more detail to the pod. getting caught up in noodling textures when i probably should wait at this point. Thinking red for the engines but quite a contrast....hmmmm. Dark, I'm thinking evil and dark.

12-05-2004, 06:04 AM (

added lots more detail. Going to start working on the inside of the pod now.

12-05-2004, 08:00 AM
hello... great colours and all that but the image itself is a little uninspiring.... just looks static. not much going on . . . maybe if you tilt the pod and make it so that it is not exactly placed between the top and bottom then it might look better. background great though/

12-05-2004, 08:53 PM
Really skilled rendering so far, Banter. Overall, i have to say that I agree with Wil: It's looking somewhat static. My take on it is that it's the orthagonal front-on perspective on the pod and not the placement that makes the image feel this way. But perhaps that's entirely your intent, too. Anyhow, it is nice seeing you flesh things out, though - the datails you're adding are really nice.

12-05-2004, 10:54 PM
Thanks guys. I'd have to agree with you as well; I've felt limited by the lack of perspective since I started, but was originally just keeping the pod upright because it was easier to render symetrically while I was building it. Although with the straight-on view I've already limited myself to centering the pod in the middle of the piece, I was hoping that once I laid the figure out inside the pod, the mood and atmosphere would solidify things a bit since the layout was based upon presenting the figure, which I've been working on and will post ASAP. Come back and let me know what you think about the changes. I tried angling the pod but it made the composition look even more awkward. More suggestions on the composition would be welcome in the future.

12-05-2004, 11:05 PM (

This is as far as I've gotten on her. I'll post a closeup. Going to put more mechanics and tubes going into her. started adding some engine fumes as well.

12-06-2004, 10:29 AM (

heres the closeup.

12-09-2004, 02:13 PM (

Decided to leave her centered for now cause that's how I originally liked it. I streched it out a bit to give it more of a cinematic feel and leave room for a ship, which I started blocking in. Changed the bottom thrusters but I guess I'll leave the small changes/details for last after the majority of the composition is done.

12-09-2004, 03:42 PM
hi, nice to see the development of your ideas, since haven't seen for a while. Looking really excellent. I think you culd if you were fussy tweak the latest comp a bit - slightly of cnetre or an angle might be interesting. Anyway, look forward to more

12-22-2004, 02:28 AM
Kind of disappointing on the feedback level. This happened to me last time. I don't GAD, I'm gonna finish this baby.

12-22-2004, 03:08 AM
Your rendering skills are fantastic! About the composition, I think it was a good idea to add a little more width, but (this is just personal opinion) I think that maybe the pod becomes a little too centered. I also find it a little strange that the very tips of the bottom and top of the pod is cut off. Since you have the pods in the far distance, maybe having one somewhere in the middle between them would help reinforce that they're all pods?

Cool stuff, looking forward to seeing more :)

Great idea, It looks nice. I like the body inside that machine and the planets, but maybe you can add more ships or something like this and show us why these pods are in the space.
Very cool

Thanks for all the feedback everyone. These are all great suggestions. I think I'll experiment with the layout of the main pod when I'm finished with most of the composition since we're running out of time now.

Yeewu, I think you're right: if i put another detailed, smaller pod in the mid somewhere it would reinforce the lack of perspective on the big, centered pod. Good idea man. I did some sketches of smaller pods from the side and picked one...

12-30-2004, 08:15 PM (

A sketch of the second detailed pod I plan to add in the midsection of the piece somewhere. Not sure, any suggestions where?

12-30-2004, 08:18 PM (

i'm having a really hard time rendering the ship and getting a metalic feel to it. I added a bay that I'd like to make lots of pods coming out of but had to make them very small to stick with size consistency.

Nice work Banter its feelin kinda groovy.
Your almost done.....
I am just gettin started..
It is about to get hectic

Ugh, lost my post. Anyway, since you have two pods in the lower left of approximately the same size, I think it would be a good idea to replace one of them with the mid-sized one. Of course, that could also clutter up that side of the composition, so maybe rotating the Main pod to the left might compensate for it? Or maybe you could put one somewhere near the ship bay.

About the ship: I think there's a scale difference that gets kinda lost because of the values. I'm not sure how you would fix it, since you can't really rely on atmospheric perspective in space (or can you? Sounds confusing to me :P), but since its values range is so great, I think it's really close to the pod. But then, the pods streaming out from the bay are really tiny, and seem to have the same values as the small pods on the left.

I have a feeling a lot of what I said is fundamentally wrong :P

Well, I had a lot of adjustments to do, but I'm out of time. Wouldn't call it done but...maybe complete.

Had a good time doing it.

Best of luck to everyone.

Take care everyone.

Pod? Pod? Pod?

Pod? Pod?

great work, i like the concept and the refined color is very appealing. the central cmposition is nice too, good luck
