Hi everyone, this is my first challenge so i am as many others really excited about this one :) I ve never painted any space scenes, so this will be my first space painting. I dont like starting with line art and i decided to stuck with only one concept so i can fully concentrate on this one. The idea is "Invasion of Earth" and i called it "Invasion I". Here is my first sketch: alien mother ship approaching Earth, the planet in bottom i guess will be the Moon, the first idea was to make the Sun, but i guess the Earth will be too small in perspective. Ill put some fighter ships flying around the mothership as next step i guess, may some resizing to make the earth fit better in picture. However, any comments and suggestions are WELCOME! And yes, GOOD LUCK TO ALL ARTISTS!

I guess i will post in small steps, here is a little update, adding detail - this is exactly the size im working right now, i will be resizing after puting all the stuf in its place. Comments and critics, please :)

I defenately dig the color use, tho you could darken the sun a bit - add more orange to the color you're using. the ship looks good for now, but adding way more detail should be a priority :)
И аз ти пожелавам успех!!! И аз може да се включа в 2D частта от състезанието! Продължавай все така!

you can get some pretty interesting cold/warm lightning with this composition :)!

Concept for fighter with selfdestruct ability. Blue names on sketches - good guys, red - bad guys. More to come...

Assault shuttle - Troop transport

I like the vehicle concepts! I would like to suggest that you make the composition more.. dynamic. :)

Thank you for suggestions, i will stuck with space battle composition, but i guess will throw away Invasion of the earth - its too old and used theme IMHO.

Carrier concept sketch, there will be changes on the shape.
10 October 2004, 06:45 PM
Good idea doode. The semy-sphere up above reminds me of the flying island Laputa :)

Cool concept, looks like a jelly fish of some sort. I really like the bad guy design. I visited your site too. Cool stuff! I'd like to see what you're planning to do soon. Keep us updated.

Fooling around with colors and ideas...
11 November 2004, 11:20 PM
The colors in this are impeccable- the final drawing will look amazing with this pallette, great stuff :).
As for the overall concept, colors aside, I think the background (space and planet both) need to be a lot larger than the ship (unless you add other ships). Right now, it just havent doesnt have the grand feel needed in the contest.
Another idea could be a more apparent light source, perhaps in the nebula behind it- that alone might give it a more epic feel.
11 November 2004, 01:39 PM
cool sketch, be careful with the values of the planet in the lower right, if thats what it is, because the dark rippling is making it read as a rippled disc form, almost like and interpretation of what a black hole may look like if you could actually see it. The ship idea is rather strong, maybe the purple nebulas in space don't have to parallel the curve of the planet? good luck!

cool use of color :)
concepts of space ships are goos to me :)
but the scene concept seems to simple and classical for the moment :)

@sidchagan, Hillartsympho, Neozoom - thank you very much for comments and critics, im still out of complete idea what im doing. Ive never painted a space scene before, so im a bit lost in techniques and colors to use, and im just testing around with different ones. I think im goin to change a bit the original idea, but i need some story first... Ill take a small pause to rethink all the stuff i have so far, and hopefully ill get the view on what iŽll do in the future. Thank you once again, your suggestions and critics helped alot! Cheers! :)

Another scene concept, just sketching overall colors and expression.

Really really nice, very dramatic indeed. Looks as if the ship is going strainght
into a star.

Looking good so far, Bars! I especially like the palette in that last post of yours. The blues and purples from the earlier shot are nice for a serene space scene, but the reds really scream 'conflict' and 'tension,' which is the whole point of this excercise, and you've utilized them very well here. Looking forward to seeing how it comes out!

I'd really like to see how you will put all those ships together !
