Latest Update: Texturing: Her Christmas Outfit (

Here's a little update on her face and textures. Colors seemed to have been influenced a bit by the season! :) The white's stay, but the will most likely be changed in the final.

And Thank you for allowing me into this competition. I wish everyone the best of luck and hope the Digital Forces are with you. This should deffinetly be a great contest and I will do my best to create something rememberable.

Good luck all...peace out.

Exploring compositions, characters, settings

10 October 2004, 11:54 PM (

some more sketches

10 October 2004, 11:55 PM
Already have some nice dynamic poses for the characters in this one. I think you are starting off really good.

10 October 2004, 11:56 PM (

What is love for?

10 October 2004, 12:15 AM
Hey Nice sketches! keep the good work I'll be tuned for more :D, and good luck!

10 October 2004, 01:29 AM
I really like the first sketch and the second sketch of the two heads. Very dramatic.

10 October 2004, 01:31 AM (

The Bad Guy, there's always a bad guy..ok, so he looks a little stupid. I'll probably get rid of his helmet/hair piece. :)

10 October 2004, 01:42 AM
I like the main idea. good concept too!

10 October 2004, 10:58 PM (

Is he the evil emperor or the loving father? Actually, he’s both. This is the story of a galaxy on the verge of transformation. An old race is being over-powered by a new race and the old emperor cannot let this happen. In this climactic scene, the faithful daughter of the old emperor faces off against her only true love – the greatest warrior of the new race…more to come!!! Of course, this is a sketch of the Old Emperor!

10 October 2004, 11:13 PM (

Compositional Sketch using same elements, + rough blocking of other characters, settings, vehicles.

10 October 2004, 11:48 PM
I like your work. You are doing a good job making it feel like a movie or book cover. I feel I should say that you should be careful with the whole "sabre" thing, you don't want to look too much like Star Wars. Perhaps futuristic metal swords? or a gun in one hand and a blade in the other, and have them grabbing each other's wrists like a struggle scene?

Anyway, excellent job with everything. I usually don't critique people but it is mandatory to talk to others on this forum, and if I say anything at all it should be something of use and meaning.

Keep up the good work. :buttrock:

10 October 2004, 12:53 AM
"too much like Star Wars." Is there such a thing. If my work ever looks too much like Star Wars, I would be the happiest person on earth...well, the only thing that would make me happier I guess would be to get a job at Pixar. :)

10 October 2004, 02:05 AM
I wouldn't worry about the sabers as long as they don't glow..You definately hit the book cover idea quite well.

10 October 2004, 03:13 AM
I like the concept a lot. Is the 2 figures fighting with the swords in the forground supposed to be the Emperor's daughter and the "New Race" warrior? (judging from your close-up sketch of the 2 figures' heads)

10 October 2004, 03:20 AM
YES!!! That is absolutely correct. The figures are the daughter of the emporer - the princess, and the "Hero" of the new race. They are forced to fight for duty, but alas they have found love in the worste of places. Now, what will be the outcome....

10 October 2004, 03:22 AM (

The Emporers gaurds have arrived.

Beautiful progressesion, awesome to see the composition coming together. Your final piece will be quite spectacular.

lord Sphere
10 October 2004, 04:54 AM
hm. It's an appropriate story, more opera than most of the entries I've seen... I'm just not a big fan of floating heads. But if you must go the floating-head route, I hope you'll at least make the emperor look old and wise. Somehow I think an old, wise floating head is easier to digest than a younger, more masculine one. That being said, I suspect your concept will translate into 3d quite well.

10 October 2004, 07:03 AM
OK well you did make the suggestion so I'm here :D . To be honest I liked the first composition better it had more focus, everything in that last composition is very central an d I feel it's killing it, I'd maybe rearrange the figures in the background so there's not all so symmetrically laid out, maybe the bady's face in a 3/4 view instead of front would add to it a bit as well.

keep them coming

10 October 2004, 04:08 PM
Thanks for the suggestions really helps to get a perspective from others.

Lord Sphere - the emporer is deffinetly going to look old and wise and evil...I hope

flyingP - thanks for coming down and checking it out, I will try the 3/4 view approach and re-establish the focus to be similar to the first composition..I think I know what your talking about.

thanks again, and hopefully I'll finish this by January!! 87 days left!!

10 October 2004, 04:29 PM
hmmm vey interesting... it looks to me like a Si-fi movie poster... i like the composition and i like ur story.. keep goin lessi where u take us... i'll drop by often to c ya progress.. c ya

10 October 2004, 04:40 PM
Very cool, it makes me happy to see someone actually approaching their image construction from an iconographic point of view, instead of simply tyring ot make a "scene". THough i agree with flyingP that there's far to much symetry at the moment. Though maybe the symetry could be retained if another elemtent was shifted, such as angling out the side characters, bringing in secondary diagonals to the composition. Either way, keep it up man, I like alot.

10 October 2004, 12:08 AM (

Took some of the advice you guys gave me and this is what I got. It's a bit messy right now, but I think is going in a better direction..let me know what you guys think!

10 October 2004, 01:00 AM
Wow...I really like your concept! Its definitely different from the other stuff I've seen. You've got some really dynamic visuals. I can hardly wait to see it in 3D!

10 October 2004, 05:16 AM
Yeah, nice work!! Your last concept shows vert well what you're trying to comunicate!!

10 October 2004, 05:33 AM

I'm now trying to design the final characters, sets, and soon as the designs are done, I'll upload them and then get to modeling....

peace out

10 October 2004, 06:56 AM
hey this work is unique indeed, this is the first sketch i see going to this nice direction, the characters also looks nice, i prefered the last sketch where you draw the full bodies of the characters where you make the dynamic moves looks more natural. keep up

10 October 2004, 09:39 AM
HieSpikes, wow you last skecth is absolutely wonderful... great scene and action on it. Is really better that the other version!

10 October 2004, 09:54 AM
great work so far! Keep rocking mate!

10 October 2004, 04:10 PM
Love your last concept sketch; looks more interesting and tells more of a story than the previous version. Only thing which concerns me are the swords (they resemble Lightsabers too much for my taste), but its up to you.

10 October 2004, 10:38 PM
I like the approch your taking. Its like a movie poster or somthing. I think if combined your last two stetches, it will look even better IMO. Take the emperor and two chicks from your previous sketch and combine it with all the action and explosions from your last sketch.

10 October 2004, 02:35 AM (

Just to note, Modeling has begun!! Don't ask why I started here, I felt like this whole shoulder/chest area would be the hardest part so..why not right? It's not much but, more to come soon.

10 October 2004, 10:39 AM
truly awesome concept work, looking forward to more work from you :)

10 October 2004, 08:46 PM
I'm liking it so far!! keep on dude:thumbsup:

10 October 2004, 09:46 PM
Maybe is just the angle, but she looks a little too "stacked" from the side view. (is that a real term? )

10 October 2004, 11:04 PM
Hagop is just starting the model, i bet that the finel model will be cool:thumbsup:

10 October 2004, 11:10 PM
Thanks Paulo,

And that is true...this is very early, but I wanted to sumbit it to show where I've started. And AV, thanks for the "stacked" comment, and don't worry, her head, arms, legs, and lower portion are going to be sized up eventually. :)

10 October 2004, 04:25 AM (

The emporers fighter jets.

10 October 2004, 07:36 AM
I can't wait to see that emporers fighter jets, in 3 dimensions dude!!

10 October 2004, 09:59 AM
Looks like you're definitely on track! Can't wait to see this in 3D. Bet there'll be a lot of intriguing character in these faces. With the battle happening in the background. Are you planning to keep it all in blues? If so, I hope that works out. I'm not too sure how passionate that icy blue will look, concidering the romance and battle.

I added a city in flames concept, and some spaceship fighting in the space art to a concept sketch in my thred. Let me know what you think...
my entry...

10 October 2004, 04:20 PM
I like that ship! Very unique! And please don't be offended by the SW thing, your work is great. I just thought I would mention it because I think you would improve your chances on winning without light sabres, but then again why should such things be limited only to SW anyway?

Keep up the good work, I'm sure the final wil be quite good!

10 October 2004, 11:28 PM
thanks for the comments...I'll be modeling the ship once I finish the girl (or until I get frustrated and have to move on to something else for a while!).

But, I just had an insight while modeling her head. It is MUCH easier to model in poly mode and then turn it into sub-d (this might only apply to lightwave 3D) When just working in sub-d, I tended to stretch things in ways they shouldn't getting wierd, I hope this info helps anyone else working in LW.

10 October 2004, 11:32 PM
Wow looking very good so far! :)
very nice ideas, and conzept.

Great work, keep it going.

My threat (

10 October 2004, 01:00 AM (

Here's a start on her head...start meaning that I spent a couple of hours trying to figure out how to approach it..but I think now that I've got a sense for it, it will go much faster. That is until I get to the ear...hate ears!!

10 October 2004, 08:10 AM
LOL, looking pretty good!! If you need help for the hear, go here:

10 October 2004, 07:43 PM
I don't know if it help you coz you are using lightwave and splines? This is a ear I did recently, is box modeling, but maybe you can use it for reference :)

btw I love the emperor ship!

10 October 2004, 01:33 AM
thanks for the ear advice if I can just get some time to work on it. BUSY BUSY BUSY... a little selfish plug..if anyone has the new X-Box game "X-Men: Legends" - I did the character animation on the girl in the intro...the girl screaming help. And Wolverine when he lands on Blob. If anyone has it, I'd love to hear what you thought of the intro. I gotta say though, it's all worth it...all the work, job hunting, and so forth...when you walk into a store and you can play the demo of the game you worked on. Good luck all!

10 October 2004, 02:14 AM
Your story line is very interesting, it has a sort of spiritual feel to it. Your modeling start looks great so far. Your ship looks like a weapon of old(sword) but is technologicaly advanced . I like it.
Nice to see the progress you are making.

Mike Moir

10 October 2004, 02:25 AM
hi Hagop.. you are doing very nice job here.. but may i ask you where are you going to place this fighter ship? i'm asking cos its not clear from your concepts.. btw i like second (centered) one more.. it has some poster/book-cover and really epic look..
anyway very nice stuff and keep it up..
good luck to you and cheers..

10 October 2004, 06:31 AM
Looking really good you modelling head... and I realli like the the emperor ship sketch/form.

10 October 2004, 11:23 AM
I agree its looking good, ears are tricky. My best advice would be to do a flat shape first then extrude and bevel faces inward then outward to achieve that ear shape. Then follow it up by smooting. I use 3D Studio Max 6 so maybe a different approach works better in the software you use.

10 October 2004, 11:37 AM (

One small step for the character, one gaint leap for ears! Hi all, so I figured out the ear. I didn't want to use a tutorial so I tried it several different ways, and the way that worked best was to create a bevelled circle in the general shape, and then go one line of points at a time to shape the ear into the right shape. and although it's not done - since it needs to be attached to her head and look alien - tadda! here it is. Thanka again guys for the tips and tuts.

10 October 2004, 11:42 AM
Nice work man...if u need to look more for your characters lines i suggest check on Stahlberg's thread in Maya (Topology stuff..and many many posts mostly helpfull ) :)

10 October 2004, 12:50 PM
Good work dude!! I only think that the ears are too rounded, you should scale them in the X or Z axis, depending of the direction you're using. The rest are very good!!

10 October 2004, 01:51 PM
wonderul ear model ! ...

10 October 2004, 01:25 AM (

Getting tried working on the girl so decided to start the ship. This is the back of the cockpit. More to come..peace

10 October 2004, 02:25 AM
So far, I love the modeling and concepts of the girl; I do agree, ears can be really tricky buggers.

10 October 2004, 12:40 PM
I like the girl, she is very beautiful, but what I love here is the design of the fighter! Great and original concept

10 October 2004, 01:44 AM (

Hi all,
Here's an update on one of the ships, I still haven't decided if these are going to be the emporers ships or the rebels. I still have a considerable amount of work to do on it, but at least the major geometry is set. C&C welcome!

10 October 2004, 03:14 AM
The spaceship design hit me with it's subtle elegance, especially for a fighter,
so it's something different. The light glow gives it a cool ethereal quality. I'm
also using Lightwave.

10 October 2004, 04:59 AM (

BIG GUN!!! New render that should be easier to see.

10 October 2004, 07:39 AM
Very nice job dude!! Continue please!!

10 October 2004, 09:03 AM
Hi HieSpike

great model, I like it .. is that big gun orientable in some way? I don't know why, but the position in your last render is in some way unnatural for a gun .. it should be probably more ahed oriented .. I am not sure, baybe is just me .. anyway if it is orientable than this can be regarded just as the rest position .. but apart from this, really great work here, looking forward to see it textured ..

Bye, Riccardo

10 October 2004, 09:17 PM
thanks guys,

Orporick, I'm glad you made that point. Originally, I was going to have the gun be stationary, but since I modeled it, I've been thinking about creating a channel in the back that the gun can slide up and down in. And now I think I'lll do that. THANKS!!

10 October 2004, 09:48 PM
great stuff Hagop.. last pic is looking a bit sexy i think..:D
really very nice stuff.. keep it up!

10 October 2004, 01:34 AM
I have a bit of a revision to the storyline.

...A long time ago in a galaxy pretty far away, their was an emperor who had to make a tough decision in order to save the life of an entire race. A nearby (couple of thousand light years away) planet had become endangered by catastrophic events and the entire population had to evacuate or die. So, the emperor decided that he would save these immigrants by allowing them to live on his planet as "helpers" - a.k.a. slaves. As generations went by, the lives of the slaves and the inhabitants - The Aren - crossed more and more until there were major uprisings. The slaves had realized that they were not in such a great situation and were beginning to fight the establishment. At the same time, the Aren's technology had become so advanced that they didn't need the slaves anymore, since they had robots to do their bidding. So, when the emperors daughter, Atara, falls in love with Kei - the greatest of all the rebel/slave warriors - and run away with him into the slave village, the emperor finds an excuse to attack the slaves in search of her. Of course, the emperor does this knowing that Kei would be drawn out by the fighting and could be killed. In my new compositional sketch - which should be arriving shortly - we will see the climactic moment when Kei and Atara are surrounded by the emperor’s army, while the slave city burns in the background and the emperor watches from above.

Hope you like!!! Let me know.... please!

10 October 2004, 12:12 PM
Man, that ship rocks!

As for the story, thumbs up.

10 October 2004, 04:31 PM
I like the story, sounds good!

The ship is great too!

10 October 2004, 04:41 PM
Your sketches remind me of something I cannot recall yet... When I shall remember I will let you know.

10 October 2004, 04:46 PM
Great job so far...on that ship and the whole story...keep up the great work...maybe tone down the bloom on the renders a bit...just my opinion though it seems to wash away the detail a bit. Waiting to see more !

10 October 2004, 07:24 AM
thanks for the comments guys,

Oliver3D - let me know when you think of it :)

Essecendesign - sorry about the bloom, it's just so much fun when it's just the raw model!! ;)

I've also added a bit more to my storyline. I think it's going to be an evolving epic;

But basically, here's what going on now.
The Emporer is in control not only of the planet Aren on which his empire is centered, but all of the planets in his solar system. So, when the Emporers technology became advanced enough to where he didn't need the slaves anymore, he began shipping them to other planets to work in mines and so forth. Eventually, on one of the planets where the majority of the slaves were shipped, they created a community and decided that they would claim this planet as theirs. Of course, this was unthinkable to the emporer. So when his dauther flies off to that planet with the rebel warrior Kei, he sends a full on assult onto the planet to put the slaves back into their place and to reclaim the planet and his dauther. But alas, this is going to be a much harder challenge then the Emporer expected!

Sketches to come shortly. Think burning industrial pipe-like cities with ships attacking and families fleaing, an army of robots surrounding the warrior Kei, his side-kick, and the princess, the emporer overlooking the entire scene and his planet in the background!

10 October 2004, 04:20 PM
Your story line is evolving nicely. I really like your ships design, and it looks almost living but yet resembles a weapon as well . Very unique indeed. What is the scale of this ship , don't quite see it yet. It feels like it should be really big but I dont know for sure.
Keep up the good work.

My Space opera entry.

11 November 2004, 09:40 AM

I like the history too .. looking forward for more images of your spaceship :)

See you :)

11 November 2004, 03:41 PM
 ooooo... I love this! Tell me.. what rendering engine do you use and tell some more about lighting in your scene... Keep rocking mate!

11 November 2004, 03:43 PM
Great Style! really cool.

11 November 2004, 04:11 PM
Hey...i haven't come for some time and now i see some VERY cool stuff in your thread.

Personally i would suggest to experiment again even at the end of this challenge with this bloom effect u are doing in your kinda gives a magical look to it..If u can control it in your final scene i think it will be great..but i think we have time until then.

Keep going Hagop!

11 November 2004, 08:34 PM
Hi Hagop...................very nice design.Smooth curves, nice details. Overall the creations you have going here are looking quite polished. The storyline is a good one too.Potential with this is high. And thus far you are holding up well with it.Looking very nice, very good job here.Keep it up.

11 November 2004, 11:22 PM
Hey all,

Thanks for all the warm comments!! :)

mmoir: The ship is actually pretty small and will only fit two pilots.
Orporick: thanks, more of the story will come.
borro: I'm using LW's native renders, and the lighting is just a 3 point setup with bloom. - just for fun!
BookMansBlues: Thanks
DimitrisLiatsos: thanks, And I probably will do something similar in my final image, I like using overexposure to create dreamy images.
Virtuoso: Thanks for coming by, I surprised and excited that you stopped by, hope you come back when I have more.

And here is another sketch of the composition, of course it's a WIP

11 November 2004, 11:25 PM (

still need to add the rebel ships, the explosions, the robots, and the main characters...that's all.

11 November 2004, 02:25 AM
I have a question for you guys, I hope you can help me.

I'm running out of room in the composition, but I really want to have the emporers robots in the scene, any suggestions on where I can put them. I'm thinking of a row of robots in an army formation. THANKS!! :)

11 November 2004, 02:50 AM
the last concept looks very nice! I like the ambient and colors!
But I'm not really sure of where can put the soldiers :S

11 November 2004, 12:44 PM
It looks that your final image is going to a film poster style right?

11 November 2004, 02:51 PM
pBarrelas: Yes, it's deffinetly going to be movie poster style, something like Star Wars meets Apochalypse Now.

11 November 2004, 03:27 PM
Wonderful progress HieSpike !!! For the emperors robots soldiers... and put this soldier in the filed, like if they run somewere or fight in the field ?

11 November 2004, 03:44 PM
Man, this is a cool image concept. A great movie poster!

The ship looks a it like a Star Warish sea horse. It is a very nice design, Hie.

11 November 2004, 03:14 AM (

Atara's Head WIP: Any comments, suggestions welcome. I'm going to focus on the body now and then come back and fix the entire thing.
Thanks, peace.

11 November 2004, 03:40 AM

Your head model of Atara is looking very good . The Eyes textures are a little bit different or destracting , if you want that much emphasis on them I don't know.
Looking good so far.

My GSO entry

11 November 2004, 01:43 AM

11 November 2004, 02:18 AM
To be honest, i like the head but i think that the eyes are weird! Maybe you could do something about it, to put mmore depth on them!! Good work!

11 November 2004, 02:19 AM
the head looks nice and clean, I agree about the eyes, are a little distractin, but maybe is what you are looking for.

11 November 2004, 02:50 AM
hi all,

thanks for the comments and sorry about the eyes. It's one of those instances where something on paper didn't translate well into 3D. I'll try again.

peace and good lucK!

11 November 2004, 02:59 AM
Hey man. Nice layout. Very old school. Looks good so far, but I think the background sky could stand to use some dirtying up, like overlaying a texture over it to break up the perfection and cleanliness of the gradient. Unless you're doing this intentionally, then I'll shut up.
Good work.

11 November 2004, 03:05 AM
Gamoron, thanks for the comment :) but that's just the photoshop layout concept. When I'm done, every element will be 3D and "dirty" PEACE OUT! good luck:buttrock:

11 November 2004, 06:00 AM
awesome concept sketches, can't wait to see the finished image!!! very nice work!!!

11 November 2004, 05:27 PM (

11 November 2004, 07:20 PM
Awesome concept! That 'sybolic' idea is really cool! I'm gonna follow this thread more; its 'different' from all Starwars stuff (quote from my own thread ;) )! Incredible nice modelling by the way!

And, uh, tnx for your reply in my thread ;) :bounce:

Hey hey !

Really cool concept, and nice modeling so far

but the face of the woman seem a bit odd, maybe should you try to give her more flesh on the cheeks if-u-knowhatimean O.o *don't know how is it called in english*

Impatient to see more wip

good luck ^^

11 November 2004, 03:25 AM (

Some more modeling, hands, and proportion.

11 November 2004, 06:11 AM
Your doing a real nice job here hagop........Lot's of work on various models for your project,a full scope.Keep at it hard,it is paying off well......By the way X-men intro was a real nice job by you and your pals over there.....:arteest:

11 November 2004, 12:49 PM
Goooood luck

11 November 2004, 08:52 PM
Hiespike, is the intro to the X-men Virtuoso is talking about
the wormhole type tunnel? If so I would like to say it was
a great job. I actually did one in 1972 with a rear projection
screen and sheets of clear plastic with black parallel lines
printed on them, the sheets of plastic were each bent and a
blinking light placed behind it. Several of these were placed in
a box with the rear projection screen in front. Tunnels were
randomly projected and the effect was similar to the X- men
intro, but done without computers, just mechanically. People
really liked it. One guy changed his furniture into sci-fi! Wondering
how you did your effect on computers.
Anyway, back to the future, the lady is turning out nice, I'm
sure you'll refine the curves on her legs later.

My 3D entry (

11 November 2004, 12:55 AM (

Update on the princesses costume color scheme. Still needs a bit work but I think it's almost there. Think warrior princess with leather, fur, and armor! :)

11 November 2004, 02:55 AM
Cough! Cough*! This is too impressive. Looks like a movieposter most definately and your modeling skills are - well - Rather slick! I am going to be interseted to see how you pull this off. Just a small question.... Do you sleep? Ha ha!

11 November 2004, 08:15 AM
looks good man

love the idea
does look like the take off of a starwars movie covor but thats the way u want it so keep it up

11 November 2004, 11:46 AM
yeah that's great, keep working!!

11 November 2004, 01:01 PM
first of all, i'd like to state: perfectly love your work, all of it ^^ i've got a couple of critics though... her hands are to small, to straight... hands are a bit bulged... look at your own and compare... and then theres the head... it's to egg-formed, and the neck is a little to thin... anyways i think you're gonna pull this off nice! good luck :)

11 November 2004, 02:43 PM
Like the redesigns a lot; as for the modeling it's very good, but a few areas need to be fixed, I think. I don't know if the hands are too small, but they are a tad too thin (if you look from the side view). Two things that are bother me are the crotch/groin region and the positioning of the arms and legs.
The way the groin is currently modeled is a bit "unrealistic" in terms of how the groin connects the legs; granted, you'll be covering that area with clothing, but it still might cause some problems with posing the character.
Second issue is the way you have modeled the position of the arms and legs; I'm assuming you'll be using bones to pose the characters, yes? The way that the arms are now, the shoulders will not deform correctly and look very wrong (I've done the same thing before when I first started in 3D); the legs I'm less concerned about, although I think they could be spaced out a bit more.

Other then those issues, your entry is looking great. :)

11 November 2004, 09:45 PM (

Thanks for all the comments and suggestions folks. I hurt my arm, so I've fallen a bit behind, but I'm back now and here is a render of Atara with the top half rigged. Next to do the legs!

11 November 2004, 10:21 PM
Bitchin updates dude! Very nice job on the modeling, the form is great and so is the posing. I love it!:bounce:

The Rig.

11 November 2004, 12:16 AM (

More Rig testing.

11 November 2004, 03:45 AM
DANG, that's some wicked modelling. At first I felt the female model at the start was a little out of proportion, big arms and all, but now it looks great! Nice dynamic poses as well.

11 November 2004, 03:52 AM
wow Hagor!!! yeah.. modeling is great but how is great your rigging !!!
you have to write a tutorial about it..
extremely impressive and great stuff man!
cheers and keep this great work up!

11 November 2004, 05:12 AM
thanks guys, hope to have more shortly. The rigging is something I came up with by trail an error. Basically, the logic behind it is to use the bones not only as bones but also as muscles. In that way if a part of the body is not supposed to bend, I use bones to constrain it from bending. In theory, I'm assuming that you can build an entire shell for the body, making it as rigid as you wanted it...but that might be too much.

Anyway, peace and good luck everyone!

11 November 2004, 05:58 AM
Wow that is some awesome, detailed modeling, keep it up !!!

OK- She is in. No iris scan required.:)
Just take that pinch out where her rear thighs meet her\bottom
and now don't be shy, give her nice big rock hard nipples!
Now THAT'S sci-fi.

11 November 2004, 06:39 AM (

Just a tiny update on her shirt. My arm still hurts so, it's slowing me down. Plus, I still haven't decided exactly what she'll be wearing.

11 November 2004, 02:19 AM
Wow! Atara is really nice! You did good! The red t-shirt and the white gloves are cool! Just don't do the gloves black, or else it'll look like "The incredibles" (Pixar) (click here for image ( C ya.. keep the good work on.. I'll be back :bounce: =D

11 November 2004, 10:11 AM
Some fine modeling here Hagop.................Looking clean and smooth.I like your direction,I can see this will be one very nice piece in both presentation and execution.....Keep at it hard,it's coming along real well........:arteest:

11 November 2004, 11:23 AM
The chic turned out a real chic! Rigging and posing looks awsome too! A little exaggeration on the Red Blouse....catches the eye for sure!

The only thing I see a bit of is the length of fingers, but again maybe it's on the alien's characteristics..

Good work, give us more!

11 November 2004, 05:57 PM
Wonderful work, bravo !!!

11 November 2004, 11:44 PM
Very nice model dude!! Keep on!

sweet models, and u rig very well. I like those test poses. Keep going, we will want to see more! Sorry about your arm but make nothing stop u.

11 November 2004, 12:42 PM
sweeeeeeeet model dude hm... is that reflections on here left "part of body" or it is wierd modeling :)
if it is please fix that! :D

11 November 2004, 02:13 PM
hey thats nice man... i say the hands need more works.. well, keep up the good works.. c ya soon

11 November 2004, 04:01 PM
Model is looking really nice, HieSpike; the blouse might be a little "tight", but it depends on the type of material it's supposed to be. Your way of rigging characters is very similar to my own (mainly cause I never got used to using weight maps, cause they're such a pain in the @$$.... ).

11 November 2004, 04:19 PM
good texure and modeling

11 November 2004, 08:23 PM
Awesome work on your character and ship. I think it's great that you jumped right in to rigging and posing at this stage. Impressive.

There were a couple comments about the hands, one of them said they were too thin. They look thin because of the area where the thumb attaches. Relax your hand and look at how the whole side where the thumb attaches hangs down and makes the hand look thick. It takes some effort to flatten your hand out to where your thumb is on the same plane as the palm.

I'm not sure but I think the nipples could be slightly off to the sides of the breasts. I don't think nipples point straight forward like that. They look good to me, regardless.

Great job.

11 November 2004, 09:10 PM
Thanks guys for all the comments and feedback. I wasn't exactly sure what you guys were talking about on the hand, but Crusty_Butt's explanation helped me see the light. At this time I'm really stuck on the outfit. I'm not exactly sure where I'm going with it. But I figure I should just try something and if I don't like it, do something else. And I've also figured out what I want to do with her hair. In this universe, these characters don't have hair but feathers! what do you think?

11 November 2004, 10:42 PM
And I've also figured out what I want to do with her hair. In this universe, these characters don't have hair but feathers! what do you think?Uhh......
(does she really need hair?)

11 November 2004, 10:46 PM
maybe u should just give her a cool hat made of feathers

but ur choice
good modelling
looks very much like poser models
anyway keep it up

11 November 2004, 03:18 AM
Hmmm;...braided pigtails? And a helmet? Hey, yeah, if you give her
feathers they should be functional, like they flap to cool her from
the mean alien sun. And they fan out to shade her. Just evolution
on whatever that planet is. Of course they can mask her when she
feels demure.

Nice Modeling Like Incredible's Cloth
let the fingers be down a bit .

11 November 2004, 05:41 AM (

ok. so I've spent the last 2 days trying to figure out LW's Motion Designer for the cloth. Man, almost makes me want to switch to a different software! So, here's where we are. I know it needs love. more soon.

11 November 2004, 08:01 AM
Great character design i must say. there is something i am not sure; when is her neck ends and her cloth begins. Because i feel that she is inside a plastic cloth from head to toe. Well is just a though.
modeling wise looking really, really great.
good luck.

11 November 2004, 09:25 AM
Nice work so far, I especially like the way her clothes are stretched between her breasts - but then i'm like that :)

At a glance it looks like her torso and thighs are a bit long.

Something doesn't quite feel right about her face. I wonder if her face isn't a bit flat and her neck a bit slim and long. Also her mouth seems a bit small...

I am making myself laugh whilst writing this as I recieved simliar comments about a female head I've modelled for my GSO. I kept thinking - what do you guys want the perfect female head? which wasn't what I was initially intending to do. I personally find there's a very fine line between intentional imperfection and incorrect gemoetry, particularly when modelling a young female, but it definately looks like you're headed in the right direction.

Keep up the good work,

11 November 2004, 10:02 AM
Going great there!
I agree on the head issue and (always considering a human anatomy) I think that her back (eeerrr....a$$) is looking kind of wired but then again maybe it's the cloth.

Nice going, keep it up!

11 November 2004, 08:20 PM
grate but there are some errors wich are destroy the model:thumbsup:

11 November 2004, 12:37 AM
Yeah, i have to agree with, if you fix those your model will become much better, keep on dude!!

11 November 2004, 03:47 AM
I was going to mention exactly what VisualAct said,
and I would add the backs of her knees need sexy hollows
below which the slow curves of her lower legs begin. I like her breasts
though. Move her thighbone up and shape her hips out more.
Her ankle needs to be straightened. Then we can get nice and
subjective about the lenght of her legs. Hey I have yet to design
my perfect lady! No easy task. You're way ahead of me! And
probably this is stuff you'd get to anyway, but it's cool to
emphasize attention to it!

Hey guys, thanks for all the great comments. They really help me see things that I'd either forgotten about or was to lazy to do! Anyway, here are some fixes and additions. More to come. peace

11 November 2004, 06:44 AM
Actually I like how you did the modelling and esp the materials. It looks plastic like and the material is really killing me. Keep up the good work. I would like to see more updates. :)

11 November 2004, 07:26 AM
Here she is. For some reason I can't post throght the Main Submitting Thread. Any one else having the same problem? Enjoy!

11 November 2004, 07:35 AM
I like it very much indeed but the thing that bothers me is the design of the shoes... don't you think that you could do something better than this? I'm sure that you will fix it in the future! Godd luck my friend!

11 November 2004, 10:19 AM
See looks ok ,anatomically, now. She has a greeaaat b@t!
You fixed the back of the foot and I think you should give some more love on the front of the foot and the fingers (can't quite tell if you have already gave your love to the fingers due to the poses)

Regarding to the submissions thread, I had the same problem yesterday but I just pressed submit and waited for a looooong time for my submission to be accepted...but finally made it. If it's a general problem maybe some moderator can look over it.

11 November 2004, 07:30 AM (

Some more progress. Things I feel need fixing are - thigh, neck, face, shoulders, hands. And then I can put more detail on her clothes and texture her and stuff and I'll be done - with her! Then the male characters :) :(
Enjoy! Pose needs a bit more work to, but I'm still working on getting the rig to give me it's most before I do the final pose. As of now she has 435 bones in her!

11 November 2004, 07:51 AM
Really nice work man, it seems that u are trying to make it be a tight Rig so that u will be free to pose her as u like anytime....
The issue between the thighs where in unfolds a bit wierd (inside of the thighs..) maybe u could work the way Stahlberg does in his models ...he gives i think some morph targets for that kind of movements in the this way he is always sure that the model will fold correctly in the difficult areas......hope i help...Cool stuff here

11 November 2004, 01:17 AM (

Not much, but getting better.

11 November 2004, 01:30 AM
Nice modeling skill man , your girl is too sexy . Keep going , can wait to her with textures and finished.

11 November 2004, 05:33 AM
Hi there.

Your images chills me to the bone, firt your star ship remember me that i hate the dentis, imagine what could this starship make suffer to their enemies. Second your characters looks very cool, and real, I only would change some textures, but its really OK.

Keep working hard that I will be watching you. .

May be you could give some advices about my tower, I am in a big trouble with the textures.

Thank a lot and congratulations.

11 November 2004, 12:30 PM
yeah! the last picture is great, i like her, and the way she moves. I imagine her walking very smoothly, and quite slowly, almoust floating... This is what comes to my mind when I'm watching her.

11 November 2004, 01:24 PM
looking hot, looking good... great modeling on the figure man... very nice... the thigh and knee might need some more works... keep up the good works man...

11 November 2004, 11:48 PM
Thanks guys, your comments really mean a lot to me. They give me the strenght to carry on and keep working on this even though I'm a bit down right now. So, I appreciate the efforts you've made to comment. Peace and good luck to everyone on this challenge!

11 November 2004, 02:58 AM
Your model is looking great, the last pose you have here is looking quite natural and everything looks nice and balanced . The only thing I notice , is the neck seems to be a little too slender, I would make the neck a little thicker( only slightly).
Also the top of the boots look a little too loose, are the boots going to have a zipper or something. Just a couple of thoughts.
Wow , 435 bones in one character. I am just learning how to model characters , you give me something to shoot for.

11 November 2004, 05:39 AM (

Just a tiny tiny update with fur.

11 November 2004, 09:13 AM
tiny update? Man, I love it! The shoes rocks:buttrock: Can you tell me how did you make this fur? the only crtit I have, is a too sharp border under her breasts. I wouldn't add a fur there, but maybe add a very small dimin there, something like on the shoes.

11 November 2004, 10:31 AM
Whoa I love the fur version! Just in time for the holiday season as well. I've enjoyed your style of modelling, really bold and daring, and it works beautifully!

11 November 2004, 01:38 PM
Nice model. looks very realistic.

11 November 2004, 12:41 AM
Yeah, great update but i only have one advice for you at the moment: use just one key light!!

11 November 2004, 05:54 AM
hi Hagop..
your Atara looks great my friend!

Neato fur there :D We're getting closer to christmas anyway, so it's really a well chosen addition. Atara looks great!

12 December 2004, 10:39 PM (

Here's a little update on her face and textures. Colors seemed to have been influenced a bit by the season! :) The white's stay, but the redsl most likely be changed in the final.

12 December 2004, 11:19 PM
Rock and muck-a-luckin' roll! :buttrock:

I love the colors and patterns you chose. Perfect. You are really coming along, man!

12 December 2004, 11:26 PM

Does she have a boyfriend...?
I would like to have a date with her:twisted:

she looks perfect, only the area under her arm look strange...

12 December 2004, 11:56 PM

The colors and textures for the materials are very nicely done. Looks great together and looking forward to more updates.
My GSO entry

12 December 2004, 02:38 AM
Like other said, the texture is really great! There may be a little something with the proportions though. I think it may be the size of the head and the neck. From my point of view, I think they chould be a little bit bigger...
Anyway, really nice work so far!:)

12 December 2004, 11:01 AM
Great updates, man she looks beautiful for a blue lady ;) (that was a joke, all people are blue to me :P ) I am quite happy to see how you have progressed. Very nice work all around. That fur is mad crazy and her outfit looks "tight" in more ways than one. Good job, keep it up.

12 December 2004, 03:10 PM
Great textures and fur (what did you use for the fur?). The modeling is really well done, but from some angles, it looks like she has no forhead (however, that could just be the angle of the render).

You'd think with all that fur, she'd at least put on a pair of pants! :D
(suppose you gotta keep some sexiness to her, though)

12 December 2004, 03:15 PM
I to really like the fur.....a good (and unique) addition to her character...Sas or sas lite ??... nice job so far on the textures and model all around...

Hi there

Nice work in here, I´m amazed with your rigging skills, just not very good at that myself....actually never rigged a charater, as I have never made an animation. But need to work on that, really much power it gives in possing the character.

Didn´t she have bigger eyes in some of the earlier submissions. I don´t think she´s as beutifull as she was....Maybe, its just the facial expression, I don´t know.

Anyways, keep it coming, like it!

Happy New Year
