Thanks Guys!!!

11 November 2004, 02:34 PM
Great model ! and the shaders are awesome !:applause:
I love that kind of mood...

The sketches are cool too but maybe they lack a sense of grandeur. Maybe because you focused on the main character...

Anyway, congrats and good luck !

11 November 2004, 07:25 PM
fala patrick

cara... ta ficando muito da hora!!!

great composition, modeling and texturing... you are one of my favorite!

good luck!! :buttrock:

11 November 2004, 09:31 PM
Great face

I´m getting a little scard of looking at it :)

11 November 2004, 10:45 PM
To be honest i'll not say that i like that face alone, but this is just a personal opinion. Your last concept is very great and illustrates very well your intentions and the face in that context will be great..Keep on dude!!

11 November 2004, 11:08 PM
hey nice work on the face buddy... but i wud like to point out some problems.. ur texture is kinda got streached aroud the nose and upper lip area... the brows looks flat, guess you might want to work more on the eyes... beside of those... ur modeling really rocks... i really like the feel of the face in the last update... keep it up buddy... good luck

11 November 2004, 09:31 AM
 You surely captured not only a moment in that face but a feeling too!

11 November 2004, 07:29 PM
hey te texture is good but is too much bloody and dark

11 November 2004, 08:49 PM (

Thanks and sorry for the slowly hehe
C ya!

11 November 2004, 08:52 PM
Hello man!!

Sorry to take a long time to answer.

The model is really great and the expression is showing how scary she is.

About the texture its well done but i think it would be better with the final model to have a better notion with the colors and details.

Keep the great work!!

11 November 2004, 08:58 PM

I just posted right now.

As i said, with the environment, the texture and the model expression is looking much better.

Mete Bronca!!

11 November 2004, 04:00 AM (

just the wireframe

11 November 2004, 04:30 AM
i can tell that some of the textures here are of course bitmaps (or whatever) but how much if this is prodecural like you did on the spider thing? just a curiosity thing, still looking quite good dude.

11 November 2004, 04:35 AM
stork - hy and thanks man!! for this model all textures is bitmaps painted, some layer is photography like dirt maps!

thanks man!

the soldier/sharkship and spider is "full" procedural! "full = 80%, i have bitmap im some channels, i thinkg"

c ya!

11 November 2004, 07:00 AM
You are really working on it. Congratulations good job.

Snake Farlow. The rogue.
Maybe you cold give me some advices and tips.

11 November 2004, 08:22 AM
Whoa, it's a movie! When's it going to be released? heheh...The main character model has a nice style to it, not very realistic but yet quite believable, though I felt the the excessive dirt does make her look a bit zombie-like.

Question, how did you create that kickass, movie-like feel! Is it some kind of post effect?

nice stuff!

11 November 2004, 08:44 AM
Hey there Patrick, nice modeling and texturing there, thumbs up! Only crit is that the scars on the face need a little displacement and the eyebrows need a little shag hair or just splines of some kind, just not to be so flat.

11 November 2004, 01:35 PM
Like I have said before and I agree with Kaksht, those scars need volume, man, otherwise they look like painting dirt.

Rock on!:buttrock:

11 November 2004, 05:44 PM
Well Patrick, the face with the helmet its better but i think that the helmet could be bigger like the one that you draw in the concept sketch!!

11 November 2004, 10:18 PM
Patrick, blz!

11 November 2004, 12:52 AM
damn' great, man!:buttrock: Looks fantastic - maybe the eyes are a little bit too ...wooden???

Pls don't misunderstood me - only a little tweaking with the white texture on the eye...the veins are looking like some kind of wooden structure imho...

Anyway - still a pleasure to look at...Keep it on,mate!

11 November 2004, 03:35 PM
Hey D3 my friend! This work is fantastic!
The machines are stunning! and this girl is becoming great too!
Wish you the best in this challenge!

Manda bala rapaz, ferro neles! hahaha

11 November 2004, 03:38 PM
SnakeFarlow - thanks man!!

keetmun - wow thanks man!! to be released? may be never hehehe, not is very realistic, i need some years to do more realist, like work 3 months in a unique character hehehe
the aspect of the image is very pos produced man... color correction/grain/lights like glow and inumerous thinks!
i will try show this process soon!! ok!! thanks man!

Kaksht - thanks man!! but the blood in the face not is scar, is splashed blood of another soldier or died people hehehe
about the eyesbrows i don´t know.. if she need i will do.. i´m looking the dstance of camera, and i´m think she don´t need.. hehehe

high - thanks man!! hehehe

pBarrelas - hy dude!! thanks for the coment.. about the helmet well look only the 3d hehe my sketch is just to reference. hehehhe

portuguese, sory

Estou sempre acompanhando. Força sempre.

Grande Patrick!!!

Muito show!

Heh heh...she looks a little cross-eyed. Everything looks good no less!

11 November 2004, 09:05 AM
wow... I like it!

Only prob is... you can't perfectly identify her either as a male or female ;)

Is the blood on her face her own? If yes, maybe ad some bumped scars below them so that you can really see her wound... if not... forget what I'm saying :)

really nice!!

11 November 2004, 11:29 AM

Oh boy, this is absolutely awesome!
can't wait to see more stuff from you and catch a glimpse on the final compo :)

keep that up m8, such work is making me really love this contest!!

11 November 2004, 03:57 PM
Alô Patrick!

Some great stuff you've got going here... my only crit is that some of your shading still looks a bit plastic, imho you should spread the specular highlights a bit or use dim reflections instead...

Diffuse level for metal also works wonders, you can get it in the anisotropic and multi-layer shaders in MAX. A falloff map here really helps to mimic the behaviour of most metalic surfaces that tend to be darker around the edges and brighter in the centre... you can also achieve this by simply using a falloff mask in the diffuse channel...

Also, for the skin try to use a falloff map on the self-ilumination channel and copy a darker, more saturated version of your diffuse map into the "shadow" slot, in the "shadow-light" mode... keep the bright slot full black. This helps you get that sub-surface scattering feel... cheap, but effective!

Hope this helps, keep up the great work here

11 November 2004, 04:03 PM
beatifull render i like very much this characther and i liked and your concept design this is going to be a great scene

11 November 2004, 07:42 AM
The last warrior image looks very good!
Also your tip on controlling hi-poly is also  (you surely think that I have a BIIIG thumb! :D ), currently working on 6 and still learning this version's new stuff...but when it comes to face morph targets I'll surely try to make something similar....

Keep it up! :)

11 November 2004, 11:29 PM
Yeah... what to say... simply :buttrock:... I can only add that in my opinion a one more blurred ship in the distance and a few more blurred troopers in the background would do good to this scene:) . And as your finished warrior with the baby is concerned, I would only move the elbow of the arm with the gon more to the back. It's a bit unnaturally in the front.
Great job! Nice to see someone jumping with a grand steps to the final image:thumbsup:

11 November 2004, 12:07 AM

11 November 2004, 05:25 AM
Hi Patrick.
Now that image just rocks, really really great, dramatic, dinamic, the blur and everything is just awesome! Cant wait to see Your final image, thumbs up!!!

11 November 2004, 10:27 AM
Wow  , extremely impressive stuff here! It reminds me a litte bit "Final Fantasy Spirits Within" for the soldiers & spaceships... many manga influences...

Great work

11 November 2004, 12:31 PM
Hi Patrick,

Are you kidding, man? I mean, 5 pages?! That's great!

What can I say... your project seems great, from the beginning. The sketches are so cool and the models, lights, textures. Everything seems very, very good.

Besides, I like the fact that you focused not only on creating high-quality visuals, but also an interesting context; a interesting scene. It seems you have imagined a whole movie before that, and you're now showing us the final scene...

Just one question: what did you use to make the clouds? Is it volumetric? Are you using only 3DMax or also another software? Just curious...

Great job. I mean it. Keep it up, man.

I love the monkey-like features you gave the troops behind the girl. It works well with the way you designed them. The out-of-focus ship looks good, too. I would like to see an in-focus version of that, too. Excellent work!!

thanks all!!

11 November 2004, 10:57 PM
Looks sweet. The spider like mechs are like from "Ghosts in a shell"?

The only thing I would think is a little strange, All the troops look like the same. Like the same as in movement, defining insignea holding the gun the same way. even like mirrior one or 2 to give the look like some are left handed to brake up that confusion.
the three group of 3 troops are the same.

11 November 2004, 11:12 PM

How are you going my friend...probably tired, right ?

You are doing a great job with all these character Patrick! The warrior with the baby were also great, with this beauty envoriment gets amazing!

I still can´t see where in the hole image this piece will appear, in fact there is so much details in your job that each light study look like the final shot to me! I´m really liking the atmospheric effects that you are creating in each core of the shot, and I´m willing to see the final composition - or it´s fist studies.

I´ve saw the alien with holes in the cheeks too! Great tip and example of what wrap deformation can do! Not to mention the interesting "beautifull" modeling.

Keep going man!
Abraço Patricão!

nothing to crit really

12 December 2004, 11:48 AM
nice composite so far dude!

one thing that bothers me a bit though is her right hand and the way she holds the gun.... somehow just doesn't look natural....

try different angles for her a little with it to get a better look....

have fun.....

reallu stunning work man

Awesome modeling and compositioning. I agree with what was said about each shot looking like it could be the final image, because you did a great job on all of them. I really like the latest image. Personally, I like the color composition of the second-to-last image the most. However, in terms of overall composition, I like the last one the most. Great job, can't wait to see more updates.

Wow D3, that is tight! I like all the poses, only want to suggest your lead characters' left arm either needs its own special light, or the arm needs re-posing. Just a suggestion.
Nice work - it looks like it could be a scene from a sci-fi channel series!

Kinda a silly crit...just something that my eye was drawn towords.....the baby dosen't seem to have any "weight"....seems to be floating in the blanket...dosen't look to real...and it seems my eye is drawn towords the baby as the "REASON" for the image...does that make any sense at all...maybe not...I'm a bit of a detail freak. ..perhaps you have already attended to this of have a plan .. I haven't read back that many pages....It just caught my eye is all.....peaCE)) ;)

12 December 2004, 10:04 AM
Hi there Patrick!
Personalie i prefer the third version, cause it is the most dramatic IMO, it is brighter then the other renders, has more color in it and that gives it something like befor death sense, like shes being shot down and falls dead, and then the camera looks to the floor and brightens it all up, dunno, i would go with that one, but thats just my opinion.
The second render is kinda oldish look, like loking into B&W photography, its not the right mood IMO.
And the first render has too much of the gonden look, just dunno...
Eitherway, thumbs up! Excellent job!

12 December 2004, 11:31 AM
First, i have to say that this is certainly one of the best entries i have seen so far..:) but i have a suggestion to make..
As it is you have an indoors scene with something significant happening, which is very nice with the jets outside, but does it give a sense of the scale of whats happening? a suggestion that you could consider is having some sort of wide window showing the battle outside or even having them partially out of an entrance with a huge battle further away. this i think may give a bigger sense of scale to the scene and maybe make it all the more significant if you show that the whole battle is for the baby? Just an idea because atm it feels sort of small if you see what i mean? But keep going i love the models and the progress your making :D..I hope this suggestion is ok..

12 December 2004, 11:55 AM
i like your style.
The scene seem nice, but when i see the first sketch, i prefer this because the GSO is really in.
the last you present seem to me a little bit to closed, without a contrast range.
That s all. But, sure, you are one of the best maxman i ever seen !
Bye and good luck.
The design is nearly the "Final Fantasy Movie" SPIRIT WITHIN

The force be with you.

12 December 2004, 03:18 PM
well u got some really nice renders here... if u aask me i would have to go with the third one... the more color the better... btw i think ur hurting the image by making it over contrast.. anyways this is looking awesome just tweak more to give it the perfection u want... best of luck

12 December 2004, 12:34 AM
Hi Patrick, great scene...
i prefer the yellow to...

12 December 2004, 10:15 PM
Thank you for the comments.
I am very thankful. but really I prefer the scene inside of a building. powders believe that the largest events than they would decide or no a war would be inside of a building. and never in the battlefield.
In some images not of the to notice but the building has the whole glass roof. that can show the whole events that are happening out.
To A lot what to still be done. I hope to finish the whole work soon.
thank you very much to all.

12 December 2004, 10:20 PM

hello patrick
only thing i can say is to ask if you're out of your mind!!! heheh, amazing job, and a real chalenge, because of my architectural habits, i am forced to choice the architectural image, lol... but the scene overall its really superb, a huge composition and the most important, a original idea.

12 December 2004, 11:31 PM
Wazza your insane MF japa!!

Thats really awesome!! The scene mood is very dramatic. congratulation smy buddy! As I sad to you off line, I think you could open the camera lens and grow your composition frame for improve the emotion sense of it! U are insane man!!

That´s it!!

12 December 2004, 11:36 PM
Continue ai, to botando fé agora...falta pouco pra tanto tempo. Good work.

12 December 2004, 11:47 PM
Patrick, just amazing work... congratulations! :scream:

I really don't know exaclty what it is about your composite that I like, I just feel that it has a very pleasing outcome. I really like the way that you have set up the scene. It's very touching and strong!
I personally prefer the yellow filter, I just think that it adds more to the mood of the scene.

Onde again, excellent work! Keep it up.

Later :D

12 December 2004, 09:39 PM
Great models & textures :bounce:

I`m not sure that this point of view is cool... the camera angle from down is little wierd for me :argh: maybe make a test from above just for try.... I understand that you want to show the ship but the action can be on a higher level (a building) than the ship can fly near of the horizon line. Just my opinion.

Keep up the grand work

12 December 2004, 10:29 PM
great work Patrick..!
very dramatic indeed..!
although i agree with Nomad.. you may try to make some tests with different camera angles..

remodele as cores....

por enquanto é isso.

12 December 2004, 01:15 AM
Wow! You've made a lot of changes!!

It's seems better in a general point of view... but there's something about this new arrangement that gets my attention. I don't know exaclty what it is... but it seems to drive me away from what I really should be looking at.
It's like instead of understanding and appreciating the scene and it's moment, I somehow find myself struggling to figure out what it is that's bothering me about it.

Sorry I couln't be more specific. I truly hope, although I think not, that this comment can be of some use.

But still.... amazing work!!! :scream:

12 December 2004, 05:34 AM
As MadneS said I'd slighly rewoek her pose. Particularly
the womans gun shouldn't line up exactly with the same
colored ceiling bar that holds the red banners. That ruins the
dynamics and gives a too contrived feel. I'd change the gun
barrel angle and color. Her gun would probably look newer.
Of course maybe she just picked it up. Just so it is not
the exact color of the wall. The broken up roof looks great,
I agree with MadneS on that one. Much grander view feeling.
And tells the story of war.

my 3d entry (

12 December 2004, 06:35 AM
This looks very cool. Awaiting the final release.

12 December 2004, 08:23 AM
The final composition is very dynamic!
But I think that the brightness and saturation of the colors give a rather happy feeling and takes away from the pivotal moment of the image...

Surely the outdoor take and camera positioning looks great!
Waiting for more...

12 December 2004, 12:26 PM

12 December 2004, 12:32 PM
Yo D-3
this image is going better each time i see it...i just think that you could try some others compositions...i think that the mais composite is point somewhere in her left...i think you could move the girl a little left and grows her image a little too...

thats it

12 December 2004, 02:53 PM
Very nice work, D-3.
One thing that looks kinda "off" with the composition (at least, to me) is that the woman doesn't look like she's part of the image. The other elements of the image have almost a "painter-like" appearence, but the the woman looks more photorealistic than the others.

12 December 2004, 03:02 PM

maybe can be a little bit populated.. ..

General concept is perfect..

Brazil Rulez !

12 December 2004, 02:11 AM

It’s a really great scene. Your art remind me another one I saw in forum.

It’s interesting the way all 3d and 2d artists are developping their skills. Even in different countries I can see some similarity regarding the art evolution.

Both are amazing! This kind of thing show us the importance of the forum. Today it’s possible to change information to make your art better.

12 December 2004, 02:29 AM
hi!d3 i really enjoy your work very much! dynamic and good story telling , but i think the red flag is too saturate !( for me) i don't know maybe u are still working on it, good luck !

12 December 2004, 02:31 AM
Hi D-3...great job man!! i think your scene is more dinamic...its better every day...please send more ups...

12 December 2004, 03:21 AM
yes! Amazing job, I agree with Juliano...only one thing that bothers me ,it´s the spaceship tail . it takes off! Only another suggestion, ok?:scream:

But it´s really nice job!

12 December 2004, 08:11 AM
Wow, forget what I said about the angle this angle is great

12 December 2004, 09:53 AM
oh yes, that looks good!

a few things though:

the bg objects, especially the buildings need more detail.. I think you just came to it yet...

fg and bg have a different look and tend to seperate....

the yellow dust is a good way to make the transition but maybe you should place some of the blueish color tones of the bg into the fg somehow and test how it looks.....

....and good job with the arm looks a lot better now!

keep up ... I really like it so far!

12 December 2004, 10:52 AM
Great update man! really amazing! my only crit is the glow of the engines. It's too dark and too blish. I would make it more white inside, and the bluish "outside". I hope you get what I mean:thumbsup:

12 December 2004, 12:58 PM
Nice scene composition, I really like the new color scheme. I think the ships and the background buildings add a lot to the composition. Can't wait until you add some of the soldiers and spider mechs to the composition.

12 December 2004, 12:59 AM
Hey Patrick,

This is pretty bad ass. The composition is very involved.

I'm not sure about cutting the main character at the feet though. I know that the P.O.V. is at an angle shooting up and might be hard to pull off but you still have a lot of time, might be something to think about.

12 December 2004, 01:22 AM
igorstshirts - thanks dude!! i´m thinked a lot about this questiom... but realy I don't see the need of the feet appear.. thanks man!!

12 December 2004, 02:31 AM

12 December 2004, 03:25 AM
Great work!

I'd love to see some more varied, dynamic poses in the background figures, something that gives them a personality...

Still, I love the perspective and the Sharkship is beautiful!

12 December 2004, 04:20 AM
Wow. As much as I liked your previous version, this new composition is even more impressive; especially love the hoverships.
Only thought I have is on the flags; if there was really a "strong" blast of air or wind, as your scene portrays, they'd be moving around a lot more.

12 December 2004, 05:43 AM
VERY NICE COMPOSITING !! I can see lots of stories going on in your single picutre, good job man.
I would suggest more floating or blowing away feel to the flag since your main airship's turbine is blowing dust around , might as well blow some flags around.

12 December 2004, 10:54 PM

Hei!! Now it´s growing up a lot the composition with soldiers, I think the last comment tha I had made, forget it!:scream: everything is balance. Another suggestion!:scream: You could to make a comand signal for the middle alien, like a command to attack.
Amazing work man! you are so fast and with high quality. Great job!

12 December 2004, 02:24 PM
i'm telling you man you're creating a blockbuster movie. This one has 6 million bucks written all over it! :scream:

But really I can't fault you on anything. The bg looks a little fake but that's probably because you haven't finished it. Everything else looks great!

12 December 2004, 03:48 PM

Thanks all.. well a introdution for the history for this image!!

In the Year of 2078, a prophecy revealed to the Rulers of the earth, it described a child's arrival that would destroy the empire and it would free the human race.
Then, th Lord of the war, lord nomed ordered that all of the born children in that period were sacrificed.
He sent their troops to exterminate all of the born children and with the smaller age than a year of life.
Their soldiers wandered for the cities behind that child. Spreading the fear and the intolerance!
A child especially was born in a city called remote meleb, bringing with itself a Divine mark. God's son!

i hope yous like guys!

12 December 2004, 04:23 AM

Hi my friend,

Great Job! I like a lot of the atmospherics effects. The blue rays are also very beatfull!
The contrast on the background between the the oriental feeling and the hitech aspect of the buildings is really interesting too  .
Great job with the dust and the character poses! All the textures are really good too, the woman´s face colors are very beautfull.
Great composition job with the "hot fraction" over the ships! The hole effect on the ships rockets (turbinas) is very beautfull too.
Great color balance !
The shot has a really great sence of motion...maybe some bullets travelling could work fine for this !

Really beautfull piece Patrick! I love the scene!
Congratulations :applause:
