Hi, I know I'd never win this contest, I don't have the talent. But who cares! I'll try anyhow! lol

This is the Queen of Gods, Rhea, the Earth mother of Greek mythology. I mixed this myth with the myth of Athena and Arachne. The story goes that Arachne boasted of her weaving skills as better than Athena herself. Athena got into a rage and challenged her, and wove her own tapestry out of the clouds, dyed from the colors of the sunset and the storm, etc. (The ending goes that Arachne lost, but Athena pitied her and turned her into a spider - hence "arachnids"...but anyhow that has nothing to do with mine). Here Rhea is weaving on her 'universe' loom, depicting events spanning the entire universe from past to future - from legends such as the Oresteia to the World Wars to future battles fought on the ruins of past civilizations.

You can't tell, but those squiggly lines are loose threads she is weaving back into the loom, which I haven't made yet.
Click here if the other pic doesn't work.

Hey you've got an interesting concept, hope you develop it further, will be interesting to see the loom with the weave on it

GAH stupid dead links. Well, continuing the concept drawing. It's too close to some of the refs I used, so I'm going to take pics this weekend and change it up. Any crits would be nice, BTW. ;) Will add the loom later tonight.

yeah it looks really crappy, but at least I know now what not to do...

I originally wanted a vertical loom like the Navajo use, so that the spacebattle scenes could literally come out of the weaving. I also was going to use a space background, but now I've thought better of it - it looks too cheesy. I had to desaturate it quite a bit because it was so ugly colored lol. Now I'm going to use the traditional loom which is horizontal and have it come at an angle across her lap so that she will be a lot closer to the viewer.

For the main scene coming out of the loom, there will be a Trojan War type battle going on with thousands of spaceships landing on a planet and trying to breach its defenses. I went a little overboard with the drawing hehe - I even got people on single transport vehicles being launched off the front x.x;;; The idea, though, is to have an old-timey feel where the ships actually look like ships with a "sail" and a shiphead. If you've ever read Terry Brooks, you know what I'm talking about - ships that fly.

and as always please if the links are down click here
