I habe entered the Contest (easy to see, like this thread shows *smile).
This is my first contest in this forum and i hope i can improve my knowledge und skill.
I guess w'll will have a good competition and we'll lern a lot from each other (at most, i will learn from the others :) .
So ... good Luck to everyone.
Have a nice time.
The first pictures, including the concept painting (wich is the biggest problem for me) will follow soon...
10-19-2004, 11:11 AM
Good luck to you Florian. keep 'em coming.
10-21-2004, 01:28 PM
Thx, Tora_2097. I'll give my best...
(Schön das du meinen Thread gefunden hast, werde jetzt gleich auch mal einen Rundgang machen und hoffen auf deinen Thread zu stoßen)
Now, after a piece of hard work, i have finished my concept-painting. I wasn't able to draw it digitally, so i hat to paint it on real paper :D .....
I do not own a scanner, so i hope i can scan it at work to post it here. It will follow in a few days. Nethertheless, I want to show you some things i've already made...
Let me try to discribe the scene... huge crowds of Mechs / Aliens ran over the burned and destroyed surface of a wide-spread valley. Obove them, Space Ships a.s.o....... (The whole Story will follow in detail)
Here you can See some Parts of the "Mechs":
A gatling gun:
A Blade with EMP unit:
A Rocket Launcher Unit:
I hope a can get a lot of tips.
Comments and critics are welcomed :D

very nice, I dont have any critique... The only thing I would look at is the polycount - How much do you have at the moment?
10-21-2004, 03:03 PM
those look real nice, I love the detail on them :)
you might want to submit you sketches too tho, since they'll be taken into consideration when judging at the end (eventhough most people don't even go for the win)
as a say more often during this challenge: keep 'em coming
10-21-2004, 04:28 PM
The only thing I would look at is the polycount - How much do you have at the moment?
--> Hmmm At the moment, i m at work, so i cant tell you, butif i come home i'll go for it.
you might want to submit you sketches too tho, since they'll be taken into consideration when judging at the end
--> Sorry, i don't undertand!? (My english is not that good ;) )
(eventhough most people don't even go for the win)
--> Hehe, you're right. I dont think, that i even have a trace of a chance to win, but this challange will ....(how could i translate/say it?)... "expand my horizon" *smile
10-22-2004, 11:48 AM
your details are awesome.. you'll make that ;)

10-23-2004, 09:05 PM

I had no chance to scan my drawings and concepts, yet, but i will show you another Update of the Schieldgenerator ...... the schieldgenerator can be turned around (like on the picture), to use the headlamps ...

Soon i will complete the Arms ....

wuhuuuuu thats so amazing, i wont count how often i say this but i love your "mech" ^^
10-25-2004, 03:22 PM
hey great models buddy... ur advanced a lot... keep it up man...
10-25-2004, 03:30 PM
those models are awesome. i love the detail. only thing i could suggest is to think about reducing the poly count a bit, cause your render time might be days at this rate
10-25-2004, 06:08 PM
Thanks, thanks ...... and thanks again :D .....
Some People said, that my "style" is strange, but i seems like it is not that bad ..... That's really wunderful to me. Thank you all for the positiv Comments.
The Polycount .... Hmmmm ... yeah.... well, at the moment, a clayrendering of te schieldgenerator takes ~1h. But without radiosity an two lights in the scene, a render takes 29sec. I think this is acceptable.
I drawed a few concepts, but because i don't have access to a scanner, i m not able to show them. So I had to (TRY to) draw the again digital on the PC. Thats not really my best subjekt, but i tried to show you how the scene will be designed. A Wide-valley. Many technical Buildings (ruins) will follow, which aren't shown on the concept... The small "black points" a warriors and soldiers. The concept of these soldiers will follow....
Following, the is a concept of a battlefield (the view on the picture is just a concept of the scene, not the final render-view!). The Story will follow, I just have to translate it into english....
HERE (http://www.broken-spirit-design.argon.webspace24.de/kampfmech/concept_battlefield_1.jpg) is the concept #1 .....
I want to show you the Story. I hadn the time to translate it into english, but maybe e few people can read it in german too. But I will translate it soon!
10-28-2004, 04:48 PM
now i know why you hav such big problems to translate it ;)
10-31-2004, 04:33 PM

10-31-2004, 09:19 PM
Now, this is a schield generator! :bounce:
I don`t know how it works (I`m waiting to see the entire object), but man, you have a lot of details there. Nice work.
Keep it up!
11-01-2004, 09:35 AM
Thank you, you woll see how it works, if the left arm ist completed Then I will show all the Funktions of the Arm, maybe with a small animation......
Now here you can see the recent WIP. I am working on the shoulder and the upper arm. Some Parts an Details are still missing, but a new WIP will come soon ;) ...
11-01-2004, 01:09 PM
whoo that is a alot of detail very intresting.
how do you build this thing up? how do you organise it?
is it one big mesh? or do you make parts and parent-child them?
how many polys are you up to?
very nice work so far :-)
wish you best luck :-)
11-01-2004, 02:04 PM
well, ist is nor one big mesh. Like you can see at the pictue below, it consists of 382 objekts (this is the amount of objekts in the hole szene, ~20 objects of them are cameras, lights, and other objects).
Each bodypart consists of a grouping of parts. Then theses groups are placed in a special order. For some parts a use "expresso" to manage the angles.
There are two joints. The joint of the upper arm und the joint af the shoulder. I have made an setup in expresso that ensures, that the joint of the shoulder's angle moves ecactly like the angle of the upper arm, but divided with 1.4 . so the shoulder move with the arm, but a bit slower.
at the moment i am up to 559408 polys.
11-01-2004, 02:09 PM
WOW! Dense poly-work there! Keep it up! Didn't quite get the story 'cause it's been quite a decade or so since I last took German lessons but waiting for updates!:)
11-01-2004, 02:17 PM
Okey CgUnlimted. i missed that little windows with that info :-)
will be VERY intresting what you come up with in the end :-)
i have a bad habbit to make everything in one mesh.

11-01-2004, 03:29 PM
Hehe yeah sorry, but i am not able to translate it myself, so i have to find someone to so this. But i will hurry up ....
One mesh? .... in cinema this would be faster then many objects, but everyone hast it's own style, I guess ....
11-01-2004, 06:05 PM
A lot of detail. Do you have a direction?
11-01-2004, 07:49 PM

Yes, the model is awesome, but be careful about overmodeling and overdetailing.
Some times it is not the best way how to ewoke a reaction.
But, you're great modeler.
