theme idea:

the land of Corinthe was inhabited by farmers and craftsmen. The villagers have lost touched with the high end technology that the settlers had when they travelled to this planet from Erithnea more than 5 centuries before, due to the dying of that planet from the excessive usage of the natural resources and the overwhelming destruction from war and technology. The occupants of Corinthe had lived for 3 centuries without war, in a time of peace, until the day the Plegians invaded trying to find a new planet to inhabit.
Lacking in weapons and strong technology, the Corinthes were overthrown in a fierce, surprising attack.

image idea 1:
I want to capture the moment the ships invaded catching the villagers unaware while they were going about their daily chores. (the Corinthes still have technology such as machines to help them in their chores but they re old and wornout)

image idea 2:
an uprising from rebels overthrowing a labor camp setup by the Plegians.

gonna work on sketches now, any feedback on these ideas would be very helpful and appreciated.

an idea for the alien world beasts of burden , it will be pulling some sort of plow, I am still designing it

Great character design.

The "flying saucers" in the upper right corner,... well they look like flying saucers. Are you plaining something differnt, or are you going to try a variation of the arial frying pan???

I like how the "clouds" wrap around the UFO's. I was thinking of doing something similar but then realized it wouldnt be so easy as I imagined.

I still need to do designs for the spaceships, just put in the big frisbee flying saucers for placeholder until i have time to work on the ships.

Wow, great concept you got there. i like the characters too much specially the way their heads were drawn, i also feeled like i'm modeling them.

i really like the idea for the picture composition ( the samll vignette showing the different protagonist )

I really like your character design. They look so much like friendly villager types, and the wide eyes make them look vulnerable too! Brilliant... and can't wait to see the final model.

How are you going to portray the attack? I mean are you going to go for disturbingly realistic, with maimings and gore? or more of a suggestion of violence?

Looking forward to more stuff

thanks, lardbros, actually I am capturing the moment of the first shot from one of the smaller ships, not going to show any gore, but I am thinking of putting in 3 little inset images at the bottom corner of the image, one is a close up of one of the farmers, another is a shot of a woman and child villager at a well, looking up, and the last is a frontal shot of the other alien inside his ship, adn will use some reflections of what is going on showing in their eyes. I hope it plays out as well as I hope it will.

BTW, everyone, when the contest is over I am going to have the alien characters available for download for personal use, been a while since I have put out any free models for people to use and it is hard to find good models out there for study and practice. I am going to try and have the first alien villager rigged with facial morphs for Maya 6 as well but that will take a little while, I am going to rig them for this shot but will revisit them and make more complex rigs for animating purposes. I know there are some really talented animators out there, that need some help when it comes to good models to animate. I will keep you all informed of the progress on that.

Wish i was generous to give away my models! But then, i don't think anyone would have them anyway.

Sounds like a good idea having a single image split into a few substory type things. Hope it works out!

lardbros: first off I really dig your signature, makes me laugh. I will keep everyone up to date on the releases of the models, I just want to help out the community, I see it grow stronger every day.

Christophe: I will be putting up ship designs , hopefully, this weekend, I am working out some final details for them before I post, want some stuff that will be as original as humanly possible especially when designing ships. BTW, you can have the models as well, not like you need them, but you can if you want them, anyone can.

and the eyes again, now on to modeling the body and clothes, still wondering about skin color, going to do some color passes before finally texturing him, the pinkish skin color is not final.

here is the front view so far of the upper body, I am still cleaning up the mesh and detailing it (eg. fingernails...)

thanks Christophe: I tried all weekend to work on it, but with halloween and all it didn't work out. How's that new computer working for ya?
I try to get in work on this project whenever I can, but not having Maya at home sucks. I have to manage out my time so that I am not away from home too often working on this. My wiife and the boys wouldn't be too pleased if I was always away. hehe

he is a little bit more defined than he will be in the final version I am just mainly getting his body structure defined out in the loops for the muscles and underlying bone structure, oonce I finish the model I will then be able to smooth him out and detail him up to be the sad skinny villager he wias meant to be
