Latest Update: Concept Sketch: Searching for survivors (

Here is the type of space ship that is searching for survivors after the battle. Sort of a hospital ship.

I think my idea from this thread might fit the constraints of the contest:

A planet of the verge of destruction is loading animal species on board an intergalactic ship with the hopes of recolonizing another planet.
Even though I thought about it months ago can I use this idea? Anyone?

You can use the idea ... but please don't use any pre-existing concept art even if it's a doodle on the back of an envelope. Thanks.

Nah, I never had time to make a doodle, Kirt so I should be good to go. Thanks for answering my question though because I'd really like to do this right.

However, what was I thinking? I started sketching my idea out and I realized that making more than one of any creature requires a lot of forethought. I mean, how does it look if presented in another angle? How do the limbs look if they change position? And will it look like the same animal when I'm done?

Well, my idea is looking out of a space ship as a disaster befalls the planet. In my sketch I don't have the urgency that I wanted to portray. I also went with the same animal. I need to clean it up a bit, but the idea is that the disaster strikes prematurely. The animals were gathered around a lake just before boarding the freighter but now they are scrambling toward shelter.

I have a couple of more ideas that I'm going to try to bring forward before I focus on one of the ideas.

I think the idea has plenty of potential. I know the sketch is just a rough but what do you think of a floor shot from outside the ship of some stampeding horse creatures as they are being herded toward back of the ship. That would open up your view of what would be going on outside and give the image a better sense of urgency. Either way I think the concept is A+ and I look forward to seeing what you do. Thank you for your comment on my pic by the way. Good luck!

Mecha has a pretty good Idea there. You could also make some of the ground glowing red to show that the planet really is unhealthy. Just a thought.

Great suggestion guys. If I come at it from a different angle I might be able to get that feeling across that Iím trying to capture. Iíll work on it and show you what Iíve got. In the mean time I have a couple of more ideas that I need to load that deal with ďfirst contactĒ between species. What I really need to do is clone myself so that I can go to work while I stay home and work on this contest.

Okay, my first idea was kind of goofy so I'm too embarrassed to show it. My other idea involves a meeting of two civilizations that ultimately ends in tragedy. Soldiers from each empire end up floating in an ocean together with the only thing in common being their death.

Unfortunately, as I look at it, I see guys with motorcycle helmets fighting guys who look like Venom. I wanted to be more original but subconsciously I must have drawn these helmets based on things I like: Motorcycles and Spiderman.

I'd like to flesh out this concept a little bit more but I'm going to try to create some unusual space suits.

I like both concepts.I thing that using well known helmets on second one won't hurt the picture.I thing that wiever will be focused on whole picture,so soldier's design, which would be too much bold, would make felling from your work little fragmental.

Thanks for your encouragement, HiPcCuP23. I really like this sketch but I think I want to change the head gear so that it is a little less recognizable. I'm trying to figure out a color scheme. I think I want the top view to be a stark black night sky with a ship over head. I have an idea for the ship but I don't have it on the computer yet. I've been slow to make updates so here is the first color version.

Here is the new helmet design for soldiers on one side of the battle. Still haven't thought of the other. At first, I wanted these beings to be human so we could identify with them but this guy you see before you ended up human-like with two-jointed arms (not counting the shoulder and wrist) and a spider-like hand. Of course, his hand looks very fake splayed out like that but I'm just fleshing out ideas.

Geez. I didn't think about this but my space ship kind of looks like a calligraphy pen. Ugh, why do I always do that? Anyway, those sails rotate and are perpendicular to the ship because they are not driven by solar wind but by an ionic exchange. How does that move the ship forward? Um...I don't know. I'm working that out. And speaking of working that out, as in "working out a story" here is the story so far:

War. War has broken out. The civilizations are killing each other. No one is surviving these skirmishes.

Yeah, it needs more detail but I'm still in the design phase. More to come.
