Roshan Lohani has entered the Grand Space Opera 3D.

Far away in a galaxy there is a city named "Kohan". People in this city have seen lot of good days,It is a progressive city. Recently Scientists have created a new invention, an -"Electricity Power generator". This generator has been created so that good amount of electric supply can be provided to the people. Lifestyle is too much artificial, almost everything is dependent on electricity so electric supply is of great importance for the
people living in Kohan.
But no one knows how the hell aliens know about this generator and here they are, A huge number of alien- fighter space ships have attacked the city. Their main target is the generator and they have already started destroying it.

Well this is the concept. What I am going to generate is the City, Electricity generator and the alien fighter ships and also some special fx to show the destruction.

Forgive me for my bad sketching, my sketching sucks but it will give you the basic idea about how the scene will look.

this challenge, I am too rookie for painting. But anyways you will get an idea when I actually

Sorry for the misunderstood, when I typed "paint" I wasnt talking about painting as in colors, it is more like "create-draw-ilustrate" the scene, with some more details :D

For example I want to know more about the way the city actually will look in the final piece, like where will be the fire, the aliens, the ships, etc :D

Hi there, looks like a nice concept and I like your ships. Is your focus the generator or the ships? My only real comment is that I feel the composition is a little stiff/flat. Maybe if you variate the skyline of your BG buildings so some are in front and some a pushed behind they would create some more depth. Let your copsition breath. I just thought it might help push the eye to a focal point. Maybe use them compositionally as framework to guide the viewers eye to your focus. Hope this is helpful in some way. I really dig the idea. Best of luck.

eahartz.......brings up some very good points......I too think that once you are into 3D modeling of this set piece you should give a nice variety to the skyline,by arranging your buildings in a more nonsymetrical way.BG bldg's behind even more BG bldgs....Otherwise it could appear to be too much of a wall..................this will give more depth.........

...i agree ...Virtuoso is right ...this way also u will have more freedom in your camera place when it comes to final composition....oh...and about the Aliens ..they came 'cuase i told them... :scream:

one crit.. the buildings in the background are almost all the same height. Maybe make one the tallest building to make it stand out and add to variety.

I agree on the deadline tho.. 3 months isn't enough ;(

Like they said, a very nice start. The building in the left foreground looks close to finished, making the others look bad in comparison :D Take it easy on the speed modeling though :thumbsup:

I just wanted to know, whether the thick wire on top is looking bad, because it is little more
thick on one side, I mean the starting point of the wire, from generator to the building.
Should I add connectors so that I also get a chance to add more detail.

Didn't strike me as odd at all... What you need to look out for here is scale, I think. Those big tubes/wires sort of makes the whole object look smaller somehow, so the way you texture that generator will be crucial to maintain the feeling that it is indeed a very large structure.

I like the copper wires sticking out, I think make the wires hang a bit more, to give the feeling of gravity/weight.. what do u think?

syour idea of visualising electricity can be very intressting
excpaccially that everything depends on that one reactor
im asking hown does it change a civilisation if electricity is the eternal force?
how would they look like ?

Hello there. Going really fast there! I like your idea and progress so far. I agree that you should add a lot more detail to the reactor to make it look massive and enormous!! That would add a lot to the buildings' proportions too I believe. Keep it up!

Great effort, Roshan!:thumbsup: Maybe one suggestion: I would prefer much more watchable, thinner cables involved than one thick cable going outside the generator. The impression of hugeness is a bit to less for my taste, 'cause such thick cables wouldn't hang like a small one in our kitchen:rolleyes: I've got the feeling to look inside a technical device with a microscope.

...but lets go to the compliments ;-))) The perspective is absolut great- very nice focus!
...maybe some depth of field in the final?...and your progress is amazing. I'm a little bit envious about your speed, man!!

It's pretty cool Roshan, but in my opinion, you should make the background buildings defer between them. They look like they were projected by the same architect....:)

Also one more thing once I apply fog to my scene most of the distant buildings won't be seen.

I'm a little late to this question but that one cable does look a little strange being wider at one end. Mainly because non of the others are. Typically cable doesn't bulge like that but then again most cables aren't 50' around or however big they are supposed to be. :)

In case you haven't thought of this. One thing that would help establishing a size reference would be to put lots of other items on the cables themselves. Monitoring equipment, or in the case of these monitoring stations. Most companies with items that take up large amounts of real estate have them perform other actions as well. It's not uncommon to see a process unit with weather tracking equipment or security cameras stapped on the side.

Might be a little early to think about that now.

Hello there!

Add antenas to the buildings! Also I think the edges in the buildings are too thin/sharp, also (my personal opinion: A city so futuristic looking will not have cables hanging just like that, I think you have to add some sort of system where the cables look nicer, like bring the cable from the top to the botom along side the mesh/generator and then connect it to the building/generator)Is looking Very good, I like it :bounce:

Arsa, you have suggested a very good point, adding antenas will really look cool. Ok The purpose of making cables hang like that is, so that I can show electric fx running through them
as they are destroyed and then the current catches the building to which the generator is
attached, I guess you understand what I am trying to show in my scene. And surely I will be adding the antenas.

I understand your point of view, but what I was trying to say is. "the city is like a really clean city, you can still do the same thin "idea", but this time arrange the cables, and show how one of the cables have been "shooted" by an enemy, and it will look pretty much the same.

I will hardly suggest to re-arrange the cables in a more "elegant fashion"

Hey some more thoughts I got while I was staring at the image...
1: you can add banners, holograms, plasma "something" (like signs, promotion) like a commercial zone. Like in real life, when we go through a commercial place, you see all sort of "elegant" looking banners in the building, promotions and stuff.

2: You can add a clock tower to the scene, that marks the exact time the attack was performed.

(remember this is all my personal opinion)

hey man love the idea and concept...i was looking at your last update everything looks great its just the wires seem like there floating and are not affected by gravity especially the cut one...unless you plan on it just recently being cut by a passing ship that too is crashing down and starting to fall with sparking coming out of it...i still love it great work so far keep it up

I have added a digital tower clock and some signboards. Also I have added some clips which holds wire on the generator, I can't do that for all the other wires, I guess you will - understand after you see the image. Later I will be adding some glow fx on the signboards.

To add antennas or not to add antennas, that is the question. Wouldn't mind - throw in some satelite dish thingies too while you're at it. The neon signs add a lot me thinks... think Tokyo here...

Well, about the antennea, if you look at any city scape anywhere (even here at modest Baton Rouge, LA) skyscrapers are loaded with antennea, communication arrays, transmission towers, satellite dishes, etc. Remember this is supposed to be print resolution so at that size your image won't be that cluttered. Make sure you keep that in mind when you are designing.

I like the city a lot. As for the signs, my suggestion is to go crowded. So, you'll dig into the imagination of everybody recalling the Blade Runner environment. For what I understood, it will be a crowded scene, so (always MO, of course), if you're able to make it messy without losing focus, it will be a blast.

He he, that's a pretty cool design!

The only thing that strikes me as a bit off would be the feet. They just don't seem very functional. Just a little harder edges and a slightly more mechanical shape would do the trick me thinks. The rest of it looks really nice, with its own peculiar style :thumbsup:

If you really don't want a toony style, you should look into steering clear of the smooth subdivisions, or at least tighten up the mesh by introducing extra cuts along the edges.

While textures may provide a more realistic surface, they don't really change the way we percieve the actual volume of the model. But you're doing a good job here, so just get back to it and make adjustments to get it closer to the style you're looking for :thumbsup:

The alien ship looks a little cartoony, with all the smoothing going on. If that's what your going for, looks good. The environment might need a little more cartooning if that's the case.

Hi's a very nice addition,I like the lines,the shape and feel........I think some mesh deformation would go very well with this.Some tweaks and dents,bends in the structure of the vessel.Show that it's been through some rough space battles.........Also some added details,a couple extras (I'll leave those to you) would be good to see..............Your work is turning out quite nicely,quite a bit too.I see lots of promise,and already some work reaching that promise here.Keep at it,your hard work is certantly paying off.......:arteest: :beer:

To be honest Roshan, if you don't want the ships to look cartoonish you should look to the poly version of the image you've submmited and start from's just my opinion:thumbsup: !

That certainly looks tighter. With good textures I think this could be passable - assuming that I understand what you're going for of course ;)

The big tail wing thingy doesn't really work though. It's proportionally off (in my eyes at least) and thus reintroduce another toony quality. But you could fix that easily by just making it thinner, sharper... sort of. Also try adding some sharp seams on those big cannon barrels... a little greebling... and it should be good to go :thumbsup:

I have done the texturing of space ship.
I have given it a dirty, rusted metal look. Also I have totally removed the fin from my ship model.

how about panning the camera higher up so that the scene has more of a horizon, atm it looks a little dense, so by showing more of the sky, u have a cleaner area to look at, then all the detail of the city below...

Looks like it is coming along nicely, but i think there isn't to much space left for much more (or are you going to do much more on the foreground?

also i have to agree with rattlesnake, the buildings look a bit plastic (or at least to "nice")
how about the sky? you could make it another color, red orso (you can see what you want) maybe you could also add some stars, a moon or other nearby planet.

:wavey: Yo! great progress I see...

First of all I don't want to sound too bossy, lol! so my apologies for the long post. Here are my crits so far :)

For the space ship texturing = looks good, but I thing is too shiny, I mean lets be real, that ship traveled long distance and others planets, just think of galactic dust. I think is way too specular (shiny). Another think is the exhaustion (rockets in the back) I think you should add some really heavy dust in this area, make it black, like in real life mufflers or any sort of exhaustion, has residues because of the exhaustions :) Another little thing that caught my eyes is this: This people/race (the people with the ship) have enough intelligence to build and drive those ships right? So that mean there can be millions of those things around, right? Here is my point now: Give it some sort of personal identification, like in real life we use plates in our cars, motorcycles, etc... Even space rockets have some sort of name going across the surface, etc.

Regarding the actual scene = First of all, add the sky dome, it will help visualize the "city" and my brain will try to stop thinking that I'm looking at a giant prop set in some studio. Regarding the lights in the scene, can you show me where r your lights in the scene, I mean I see light bouncing everywhere, but some of the stuff in the scene do not have any light effect in some of the surfaces. For example, the LCD doesn't have any effect on that bridge.

and neither the spot lights in the bridge. Regarding those spotlights, I think white light should work best than yellow light.

Regarding the bridge: First "Is the bridge Floating?" because I don't see any sort of support for it. Like columns or something (gravitational orbs, gravitational disk, gravitational platforms?)

Overall scene = this is a huge city right? Big cities have this sense of density, Versiden has a point there, I think you should give it a try, moving the camera just a tiny bit upwards, showing more sky would be nice. Also I suggest you can use the 3/4 camera view give it that cinematic look. It will help you spread some of the stuff around and will help you focus on one thing rather than having it all in a square "box" see!?

Well your work is excellent and has improved a lot! Keep that great job man!

Remember this is only my way of thinking; you do not have to follow any of this stuff. But I really suggest checking 2 things, your camera and the lights, if you want to go the 100 miles I here to help!

The overall night style here will work very well I think. You will need a lot of various lightsources to sell the final shot... and what ARSA said about showing more sky is a very good suggestion if I may say so... it feels a little too crammed in there right now (a futuristic city is obviously going to be crammed, but the image doesn't have to be... if you see what I mean here).... Good job so far :thumbsup:

1) Chane the camera angle
2) Add a sky line
3) Lighting
4) Make the spaceship look metallic.

Pushing the buildings back gives a much better scale to the city, much more vast. You may want to lower the interlacing on the "LCD" screen since LCDs don't interlace. I would suppose that's to make it look more like a screen but I would suggest a grid pattern instead. At hi-res it should show up pretty good.

What is generating the colors on the bridge, the screen or lamp light?

hi...modeling is looking nice mate...about the light test i think that the lcd screen doesnt have too much power to generate that kind of lighting effect...i think that this effect needs to be very soft...

Well now the bridge looks empty as if no one uses it. So I have modeled this transport truck, which I will be adding later in the scene after the texturing is done. I have not added lot of details as it is not a very important part of my scene, Just trying to add some elements on the bridge.

Nice update!! I like it!

The texture are very cool too! Perhaps the generator can be illuminate a little by the front, because, i thinks that this dark shadow hide a lot the modeling... but it's just an idea... :shrug:

You should however consider going a little easy on that coarse bump on the building walls. Fact is that it ruins the scale a bit. To perform a little test, you can try switching off the bump channel, load the bumpmap as a specularity and/or reflection map instead, and maybe scale it down (or increase the tiling)... render and see... I'm sure it will make the building look bigger.

Hi Roshan......You are going at light speed it seems......:wip: ......Your compo and models and now texturing at full tilt........I have weeks of modeling still,and am just doing texture tests as I go......So when I see your deep into texture phase it is something.............I think James brought up my exact thoughts on the "Bump" of the walls.....I would agree to tone this down some,sometimes less is better in many things......Also I think you have too many colors/textures,it seems a bit loud,too much going on,perhaps you should cut a couple colors out and add some of your favorites in there place?This of course is just a taste thing,for me it seems right,for you I may be completly wrong in my thoughts,but I like to call things as I see them......................:)

Well About the textures I agree with James and Virtuoso they are too loud and litle bigger in size, so I will manipulate my textures again in photoshop and make the colors more or less same and also I will increase the the tiling. The generator rightnow looks little dark, I am still working on the lighting part.

I really like the way the ship is looking now, but to be honest the truck has a cartoonish look. I know that you don't want this kind of look so i suggest you to change some things on it, like the midle wheels (try to put them more in the front or back), increase the detail or try to use diferent textures for the diferent parts of the truck. I hope this could help!!:)

Great, great... I see everything is comming along nicely. I will suggest de-saturation for the colors and lowering the "glossines" in th eship. For the truck, I will suggest removing the yellow lights on front and replacing it with a flat surface, since thats low poly. Add the lights texture based. I dont think you should put that much effort into that truck, is not even a strong element for the comp.
