Wow finally here we are!I have been waiting for this moment for a while, hope this is gonna be a lot of fun!!!

10-18-2004, 03:05 PM (

Ok heres my first attempt, i dont have any ideas yet just tried to figure out the mess i have in my mind..and this is the result.
Not satisfied with it but i decided to post it anyway to hear what you all think.
I am still too exited about this new challenge and cant wait too see good stuff from you guys!!!

10-18-2004, 03:27 PM
so fast...not bad!!! :)

10-18-2004, 05:11 PM
thanks man!
Actually i need some more free time to think about a good concept..but now iam busy with homework :banghead: :banghead:

10-18-2004, 06:02 PM
Well it seems i have a first idea.
I ve thought about a planet factory or something like that. There are very very huge mechs
who create a system of planets.Loads of ships are suppling these bots with tons of several materials and energy.
Now that i came up with this idea i will be posting soon a concept sketch!

10-18-2004, 06:04 PM
..and the point of wiew is from one of these planets

10-18-2004, 06:06 PM
..and you can see big tentacles far far away building up this new "Earth"

10-18-2004, 08:27 PM (

..second concept sketch done!

10-18-2004, 08:36 PM
Thats all for today.
Still working on the concept.I wanna spend some time on the idea, untll i am really satisfied with.
Just need a lil feedback now..
I'll keep posting tomorrow...time to bed :D

10-18-2004, 08:48 PM
Nice Concept. I like it. Good Luck in the challenge.

10-19-2004, 12:25 AM
AH hey man, that 2nd concept of yours really caught my eye.

I first thought it was like a giant ass machine mineing the sun and the sun is like running outta juice.
YOur concept has huge potential man, GJ.

10-19-2004, 01:48 AM
I think your second sketch rocks. Personally I felt more sense of drama with it which is key in the ole space opera theme. Great idea.

10-19-2004, 02:15 AM
nice sketch. I like the color scheme :)

10-19-2004, 04:36 AM
Thank you all!
This second concept its just what came up in my mind yesterday.
Not really happy with it...but hey, still working on.
Ill update some more sketches later:bounce:

10-19-2004, 04:55 AM
hy man!! nice idea!! very cool.. best luck !!

10-19-2004, 05:57 AM
very nice, but.. how you do both in a day?

10-19-2004, 08:29 AM
I like the space dimension in the first one, on the second sketch don't feel me so much... but i like the structure that you draw.

good luck to u 2

10-19-2004, 08:32 AM
Andy, you are one of the kings of speed sketching.:D Beautiful concepts.

10-19-2004, 12:27 PM
I liked both concepts, especially the colors. And the sun effect in the first image is surreal. Very nice.
Im looking forward to see the details.

10-19-2004, 12:56 PM
Andy, you are one of the kings of speed sketching.:D Beautiful concepts.
Thanks!!I should say thanks to cgtalk daily sketch then, i have learned a lot there...
Thanks all for feedback tho!!

Peter C.
10-19-2004, 02:06 PM
Best of luck Andrea,

I must say I like both sketches just as much, they both have their strengths. The first one has obviously more power in its scope while the second one is more focused power. Why not combine both?

10-19-2004, 03:27 PM
A G E of E X P L O R A T I O N

2676 AD - Sun had completely went out.It was supposed to happen in a billion years, but somehow it did for an unknown reason.
Suddenly darkness had begun ruling everywhere and life had sturted to extingish onto the Earth.

Actually sun light had begun riduceing dramatically during the last 70 years and governments with the collaboration of the best scientists in the world had had the possibility to create the biggest evacuation project ever.

Giant ships therefore had soon left the Earth with the intention of letting man kind survive and searching a new Earth-looking planet as soon as possible.

...a new age has begun...

10-19-2004, 03:32 PM
Not sure if my english is correct but i think you got the theme anyway.

Ill try to focus on this idea in the next concepts and we'll see if it works.

10-19-2004, 03:33 PM
btw thank you peter. Thanks for your suggestion maybe it could be a solution:)

10-19-2004, 04:18 PM
Not sure if my english is correct but i think you got the theme anyway.

 stesso problema... l'importante farsi capire...

10-19-2004, 05:24 PM
haha...giusto!! :bounce:

10-19-2004, 05:28 PM (

Didnt draw a space ship before. It was loads of fun though and pretty satisfied with it.
Just tell me what you think.

10-19-2004, 05:34 PM
damm thats one awesome ship concept!

10-19-2004, 05:48 PM
Glad you like it isometrix.
This is supposed to be an exploration ship, you know, fast, agile, small...

10-19-2004, 06:02 PM
very very nice concepts there you made, i like this one so much, keep UP rock ON, impressive.
i'll be here to see your progress.

10-19-2004, 11:04 PM
Your work really reminds me of Jhon Blake. I keep on expecting that

Great use of color.

10-20-2004, 12:14 AM
Really like the first concept, great atmophere, reall nice.
The rocket looks like a shark :D

10-20-2004, 01:05 AM
brilliant color palette in the first sketch.

Looking forward to seeing this one take shape

good luck!!

10-20-2004, 02:02 AM
Concept Sketch #02 makes me think at the drilling machines from The Matrix.
I'm not criticising... but i don't want to go :bounce: either, before i see some more stuff :) ... some modelling ... :)

Good Luck and keep it up !!

10-20-2004, 02:05 AM

[QUOTE=Zeratull]I'm not criticising... but i don't want to go :bounce: either, before i see some more stuff :) ... some modelling ... :)

yeah you are right. But i wont start modeling untill i am really satisfied with my concept and my idea. Now i am not.

Thanks all for feedback!!

10-20-2004, 05:06 AM
wow, cool man, your story and concept is awesome.....great start:thumbsup: .

Hope to see w.i.p from you..........cheers

10-20-2004, 07:25 AM
coool i love the sketch very much

wish you the best luck

10-21-2004, 05:20 PM (

hope to have found the right one this time. This is a very quick sketch i did during the italian lesson..hehe

10-21-2004, 05:22 PM (

..and heres a wip coloured version i am doing.Hoping to finish this soon!!

10-21-2004, 05:28 PM the dome theres a huge city.It is protected by a plasma shield to prevent attacks by enemy ships...

10-21-2004, 10:18 PM (

...keep workin on it..seems good and pretty satisfied with the result...but still wip..ill go on 2morrow

10-22-2004, 06:56 PM (

Ok, i made up my mind to replace the city in that dome with a giant ancient tree.
I am really satisfied this time with this idea.Almost sure the concept won't change anymore.
Have fun!

10-23-2004, 09:13 PM
Andy, you work very fast. I like your sketches.
deffinittly a thread to whatch. The first sketch is giving me the huge space sensation.
Good luck!!!

10-24-2004, 12:30 AM (

..update!!..and again..still wip

10-24-2004, 12:41 AM
The tree in the top is the main subject. Its duty is to provide giving vitality and energy to this "colony" (or call it as u like). Thanks to this tree this "colony" had been able to evolve and blow up.

Now need your opinions and your suggestions:D

10-24-2004, 01:02 AM
hey thats a good concept. I like the giant tree idea and the whole colony supporting from it, although im not sensing any 'drama' from this yet. is the tree in full bloom or is it going to be be withering away and diseased?. Is there a story behind the tree and does it have enemies? so far it looks quite like a stadium with the grand entrance you have going, perhaps there is an epic sport attached with this tree or a place of worship?. maybee you need a huge invasion of robot caterpiller ships or something to help with the operatic feel. :) gl!

10-24-2004, 01:21 AM
Hiya, I really like this :)

I thought the dome of the city was a planet or moon, would look cool if the city was a structure around a shattered planet/moon...just a thought ...hehe
Keep up the good work

Peter C.
10-24-2004, 10:59 AM
I really like this latest concept with the tree, very original so go for it! Could the "leafs" be large solar panels perhaps?

10-24-2004, 11:13 AM
I love the paitings bro, and the concepts are great! keep going! :)

10-24-2004, 11:22 AM
Andrea, like your style; looking forward for upcoming improved sketches...good luck

10-24-2004, 01:03 PM
its growing up! very good!

10-24-2004, 01:18 PM
element5 - as you can see i changed my mind about that concept.Anyway thanks for help!!
Peter C. - thank you for your idea but the tree emits is own energy, it dont need to have any further energy, the one it has its enough, maybe even too much..hehe:)

BookMansBlues and Grimreaper1981 and Luciano Berutti - Thank you a lot.really appreciate your support!:)

Tekano - thank you for your suggestions. You are right, i should add something that makes the scene a lil more dynamic.
Concerning the tree, yes theres a story behind:

"Once upon a time, when humanity left Earth, men decided to bring something who would remind the old forsaken planet with em.
So they took oak seeds.
But after a while mankind got divided by an internal conflict between several "clans".So these seeds where lost, except one.
This was kept secretly by some monks. But one day, during a long journey far far away, at the corners of the universe, monks noticed that the seed began growing up inexplicably and emitting energy. For some reason this was happening only in that exact place.
The oak then was keeping on growing, and growing, and growing seemed there was no and to this great event.
Later in this area was buit up a new structure with the intention of defending the tree and keeping stricly secret the power of the giant oak.
Lot of centuries passed and this wonderful place become a story, the story a legend, the legend a myth.
The quest however never ended and this began sounding like the ancient search of eldorado wich taked place a lots of millenium before.
So there was always an endless departure of pioneers looking for fortune who were hoping to find that place someday. Most of em didn't came back.
In the while wars were fighten, peaces made and ages passed ...

....TILL ONE DAY....

10-24-2004, 01:24 PM
Ok that was the new story, hope it is clear.

Now what i have to do is make that huge strucure looking really ancient, there will be no one in there, the roots are going to break the main building in the center in some areas and probably i'll add a quest ship in the foreground.

Unfortunately i dont have any further time to go on with my drawing these days.

10-24-2004, 02:30 PM
Your consepts are verry great, I have no crits at this moment just had to say that it looks wunderfull.

10-24-2004, 02:36 PM
great story! and awsome idea.

10-24-2004, 02:39 PM
Wow! Great stuff! I look forward to watching your progress! Keep it up.

10-24-2004, 02:53 PM
mr_carl and chadtheartist - Thank you!!

10-24-2004, 07:59 PM
and i think ill add another structure that protects the whole buiilding and the tree as well just rotating and in this way it creates something like a shield...but not sure yet.. this was just an idea

10-25-2004, 08:26 PM (

Well heres an update.
Today i have been workin on the tree but not finished yet..just wanted to share with you my progress..enjoy!!

10-25-2004, 08:31 PM
great , how long do u spent in a paint like this? just to have an idea.

10-25-2004, 08:37 PM
ooooooooooooooooooooooooo that is nice, i like

10-25-2004, 08:37 PM
great , how long do u spent in a paint like this? just to have an idea.

Well during this afternoon i mirrored the left side to the right..fixed the light on it and painted the tree.
I dont know actually the total time i've spent on the pic but lets say pretty much since i am kinda new to digital painting, maybe 15 hours total..dunno:D

10-25-2004, 08:38 PM
Very nice work, -Andy-!

I liked all the sketches very much! For me they are an excellent work already!

Imagine the 3D version! Can't wait to see

See ya!

10-25-2004, 08:41 PM
Maybe you may ask :"why does he waste so much time on that damn concept?
The reason is that i wanna my ideas to be clear enough before start modeling and i am sure this will fasten the time on 3d after..

Anyway thank you for replies!!

10-25-2004, 08:43 PM
Cool concept.Like the idea alot.I just wish you could get closer to the main objects.I would like to at least see some of the details. It looks too simple from this far off. When I say closer I mean close, that you can get a real feel for what the whole thing really is.The idea is real good, but I cant see enough of it,get my drift.Either way it's a nice start, just hoping for closeups.

10-25-2004, 08:43 PM
oh andy what a nice image... u make me cry :applause:

10-25-2004, 08:49 PM
nice concept, one hell of a painting!!!

nice idea !

take it eazy but dont wait to long..
with modeling

Greez Renz:scream:

10-25-2004, 08:53 PM
i have looked at this thread several times and today it's totally different! i like this idea you're working on now, it's more ... grand, than a lone ship. You could really turn this into something far out. keep going with this tree idea, perhaps the tree could somehow have "grown" this structure from itself. The "root" could be more organic looking, sort of like a bees' nest or a beaver dam. You've got a really interesting concept there, I'm curious to see where it "grows" :)

10-25-2004, 09:03 PM
It just keeps getting better and better.
Relly looking forward to the modeling part.

Maby you should put some ship around the "thing"

10-25-2004, 09:18 PM
hey i really didnt expect so much replies in so little time.
thank you all!!

Steveyola - ill add closeups when sketch is finished ok?

Gendou - yeah i have tought about that already..maybe this will be in the next update.

mr_carl - well pretty sure there will be a spaceship in the foreground that discovers this huge forsaken structure( i ll try to make it looking forsaken and add some areas destroyed by time)

10-25-2004, 09:48 PM
Oooh, looking really nice. I must say I wasn't really to much into the concept at first. I really liked the tree, but you know.... anyhow, I really like how it's looking now. There's a city in the tree? This is really intresting :)

10-25-2004, 10:59 PM
Hey Imp STILL in concept phase. It is VERY important to have a good idea of what you are getting into before you dive into a complex 3D scene.

Unorganized 3d scenes have a nasty habit of getting out of control REAL FAST.

I still think that the best of this image is its color composition.

I just wish it could be possible to see more detail, or even get some better view of the people on the landing dock.

Keep the good work up.

10-26-2004, 04:37 AM
Thank you guys..
btw there will be no people in the final image (read the story and ull understand)

10-26-2004, 04:48 AM
Since we're going for an epic feel, I'd say the first concept is definitely the better of the two. It just seems much more grand, and even in concept, the colors are more appealing.
I know its a rough sketch and all, but you need to work on the curvature of the planet- it looks more oval than spherical right now.

10-26-2004, 06:51 PM (

Just a rough sketch of the ship in the foreground.
I am a lil bored with all this sketches:i'm gonna have a little break and start modeling this one.

10-26-2004, 06:52 PM
sidchagan ( - well i will see what i can do..anyway thanks!!

10-26-2004, 08:19 PM
Nice scetch, cant wait to see the model!

10-26-2004, 09:24 PM
Thank you..i am working on it at the moment..maybe ill post some wip 2morrow..

10-28-2004, 02:00 PM (

The previous concept wasn\'t so detailed. When i model sumthing with a 3d software i prefer my ideas to be yesterday i got pencil and paper and drew this one..didn\'t get this kinda subject before but this is what the ship, the Spacestar, should look.

10-28-2004, 02:06 PM
Wow, great sketch...of a big fat spaceship...

looking forward for the colored version...go on andy:D

10-28-2004, 02:15 PM
thanks you Grimreaper1981.Dunno if there will be a coloured version cuz i got bored with all these concept sketches:D .
Damn i wanna seriously start modeling but the problem is that i don't like the last concept anymore..arrgggghh:shrug:
This ship, the Spacestar, will be in the final image for sure, at least i guess..:D

Anyway time to model this baby!!

10-28-2004, 02:22 PM
k, i'm sure your modeling is as great as your sketching...:D

10-28-2004, 02:47 PM
wooow... awesome concept dwarings buddy... i really liked the perspectives in that... anyways... u got some amazing ship designs there.. cant wait to c them modeled... rock on :buttrock:

10-28-2004, 03:33 PM
thanks man

10-28-2004, 04:09 PM
Great design Andrea

looking forward for the 3D models ..
Riccardo :)

10-28-2004, 05:00 PM
Nice conceppt. I love the big engines. But there is one thing: The vessel doesn't really look mobile. It's this huge massive spacecraft with this big thing hanging over it, so it looks like it would fall over. Also the "legs" really look like they're designed to stand and hold something, not to fly around. Really like the idea, but think about it

10-28-2004, 05:15 PM

thats necessary if it's planned to land on surfaces; if its a spacecraft only aerodynamic laws are cancelled....i think the human people on the ground shows the size of that "Spacestar"...

10-28-2004, 07:42 PM
Grimreaper1981 - thank you, you got my meaning m8.
As this is a space ship, it is supposed just to move through the space, it's not a jet so its not definitely meant to land directly onto a planet, but this has to be done exclusively by some lil ships located into the Spacestar. The main ship wont be able to contrast gravity if it gets into the atmosphere of a planet.
Men on the ground have been drawn just to give an idea of the proporsions of the ship, nothing else.I reaally wouldn't know what else i should use to make proporsions understandable without using men.

Anyway...oshiroii..i really appreciate your support and thank you for reply!!
C ya around people!!

10-28-2004, 09:31 PM (

Nothing special.I didn't have so much time to work on it so its just a base mesh but wanted to share it with you anyway.

10-28-2004, 09:59 PM
tomorrow i should have some more time to keep on working on this one.
But now..bed time ....I got school 2morrow:shrug:....

...DAMN IT!!:scream:

10-28-2004, 10:01 PM
Nice designs of these last ships.very grand.I like the scaleing you showed with big one with all the little people.

10-28-2004, 10:44 PM
Waouwww very nice sketch!!

10-30-2004, 06:09 PM
Your visualization is amaizing, excelent for a person that never drew spaceships before, hope to see soon what your story is about :wip: Keep working and the best for you El pollo Diablo

10-30-2004, 07:40 PM (

Thanks a lot climax!!

10-30-2004, 07:41 PM
I have changed the shape a little bit.I guess this one seems maybe more aggressive

10-30-2004, 07:56 PM
Wow! Your concept sketch (the last one 4e?) looks fantastic ! What are you sketching with (sorry if I missed that info somewhere along the line.)

Keep up the great work.

10-30-2004, 08:04 PM
What are you sketching with
Well, i use ps and wacom.thanks for reply!:)
