Finally sorted out my idea.
The greatest secrect of the universe is uncovered in a small village on the last human planet in the galaxy. Once the tech-hungry alien supressors who rule the universe catch wind of this great discovery, they attack with full vengance in hopes of yeilding this great power.
This shot will depict the strength of one man in the shadow of domination.
Sketches to come....
Cheers and I wish you all the best.

Here is my concept sketch. I am not much of a 2D person so this is where I leave it. Those blobbs landing in the back are those spider bots in landing mode, should have a skecth up soon. Any comments would be great.
10 October 2004, 08:21 PM
Here is a line drawing (front view of the spider bot. I need to do a 3/4 and I can say that it is a bit too cartoonlike. So I will be changing that soon.
10 October 2004, 08:24 PM
Here is another head variation, still feel that it's too toony, but I think its enough to start modeling.
10 October 2004, 12:36 PM
Ok, that was fun, but I am changing design/concept to one that contains more of a Grand Space Theme. Duhh. I should have begun there in the first place. I'll post some more sketches later today.
10 October 2004, 01:27 PM
I like a lot the spider I think this is very original
10 October 2004, 09:43 PM
Here is my new concept. An alien race is overtaking the universe one galaxy at a time. The aliens live aboard these spiderlike spacecraft that latch onto planets and suck the energy core from them renderig the host planet dead. This shot depicts one of our best (Humans that is) defeating the alian ship deployed to our galaxy. Yes planet Earth saves they day. I wanted to keep to the theme of a unified mankind vereses the alien element. I think that the human race needs to quit killing itself over subjective matters like religion and lifestlye and unify as one very diverse people/species. So I guess that is the feelilng I was going for in this piece. I think I like this better than y previous pitch. Any feed back would be great. Thanks and I hope you all are progessing nicely.

omg... concept rox !
w8ing for update
10 October 2004, 09:54 PM
Thanks for that positive vibe. Been in a rut lately and trying to dig out of it.
10 October 2004, 02:37 AM
Any CC on composition/theme/color before I take a stab a designing crafts etc...A Mighty thanks.
10 October 2004, 03:28 AM
Just wanted to say that I love the position of the pilot, his closeness to the viewer creates a great amount of anxiety which adds to the mood of the piece. The background is a bit messy, but I'm sure you're going to work that out eventually. Nice work, keep it up and PLEASE don't loose the foreground character!
10 October 2004, 07:47 AM
this concept carries a lot of action. really nice.
I´m curious about seeing how you develop the background in combination
with this dominant looking foreground.
10 October 2004, 12:58 PM
Thanks your comments are truly helpful. I agree, I need to do some more work on the BG. IMO it feels cramped. I am thinking I can open it up a bit when I get a real camera in the scene and play with a few lenses, hopefully let get this piece to breathe a bit. I am going to try a few bakground replacements now.
10 October 2004, 01:14 PM
I agree about the background. You captured it perfectly when you said it was cramped--that's exactly the feeling I get when I look at it.
Awesome concept though! I think it works very well with the story and the space opera theme.
If you can work out the background (I think it's that exploding alien ship that just isn't fitting in right) this will be a wicked piece.
Gr8 work .
10 October 2004, 02:56 PM
Here is a variation based on previous CC. I tried to open up the composition a little. Thanks to all who offer opinions. Hope your work is coming along nicely.
10 October 2004, 06:03 PM
Here is the pilot helmet idea. Wanted to keep the design in the practical realm. The human ship/pilot equipment is pretty low tech and rough, in contrast to high tech anglar, sleekness of the alien design. More to come.
10 October 2004, 06:36 PM
sup eric! lokking better than the first concept! i just think the human helmet doesnt blend in the image  godd work anyweay!
10 October 2004, 08:25 PM
Howdy everyone. Here is a generic model reference (top view) of the FG ship. I am staying with the Low tech vibe. Mind you there will lots of little gizmos on the exterior this is just a proportion/placement layout. I'll try and up a side view here in a minute.
10 October 2004, 08:29 PM
nice for now.... make another sketch please.... in perspective :)
nice for now!
10 October 2004, 08:33 PM
great ideas Eric, this world looks nice and you have many great action going on, this will rock when done.
10 October 2004, 08:43 PM
very good sketches, could be better with more spaceship in frame.
It's just my thought.
10 October 2004, 08:59 PM
Once again, thank you all for the great feedback. I agree with getting some more ship in, as long as I don't loose my main character in the process. Like I mentioned above, I am not a 2D guy in any stretch and will do most of my fine tuning in 3D. I really appreciate the great responses. Hope you all are progressing well, I will be browsing the channels later on tonight. Cheers!
10 October 2004, 12:08 AM
Here is a modified side view of my low tech ship. Once again just a sketch for proportion/placement. Final is much more detailed. Will be creating a 3/4 view here shortly. Cheers its beer thirty.
10 October 2004, 11:12 AM
Man, I love your concept. It will be easy for you to model them, cause you have a great sketching ability, You have nicely captured the scene in your sketch. Waiting to see the
10 October 2004, 11:18 AM
Great concept man, cool prespective, and Neat designs.
10 October 2004, 01:55 PM
Your last sketch look good. keep it up.
i'm waiting for perspective view.
10 October 2004, 03:02 PM
Stunning sketch-work! The idea is a great one.
The problem you seem to be faced with is finding a way to depict all the elements without crowding the scene (pilot, planet, ship, explosion). What if (and these are just ideas... take 'em or leave 'em):
Set the POV very close to the pilot... inside the cockpit even.
Turn the pilots head so he's looking over his shoulder at the explosion. This would allow the helmet insignia to be viewed easily.
Create a ship-type which features more ship behind the pilot than in front (since the front would not be seen from the new POV). We would see more of the ship (from the cockpit back) and the thrust-trail behind.
Fantastic idea and implementation.
10 October 2004, 08:13 PM
Hi everyone, great crits and ideas. Thanks. I am back (took yesterday off to brew some beer).
Viridian: I will definately be playing more with pov. Now that my concept is locked I will be doing all of the fine tuning in 3D. I model pretty quickly so I'll have a chance to get all things worked out. Still have not started modeling phase yet, probably tomorrow. Thank for keeping your eyes and mind open to my work. I appreciate it.
Thanks everyone, more to come.
10 October 2004, 09:53 PM
Hi Eric....................Thats a very nice concept.I think when shown in a larger format even more so.I think the slight crowding will no longer be a slight problem then,That was a good suggestion by Viridian to have the pilot turn his head..........Looking over his shoulder.Well good luck, and keep up the good work.:arteest:
10 October 2004, 12:34 AM
good start man
looking forward to some modeling
10 October 2004, 11:40 PM
I really like the concept. The space ship looks great. Not to complex, but still looks good. Keep it up.
10 October 2004, 12:32 AM
Looking pretty cool,nice overall appeal.
10 October 2004, 09:25 PM
ok, let's see some models!
10 October 2004, 09:41 PM
Hi everyone, been a bit slammed this week with this architectural vis i am doing, I should be into modeling in a day or two if all goes well. Hope all the projects are going well, have not had time to check in. Enough of my blab, talk with you all soon..
10 October 2004, 06:23 PM
Here is a five minute start on the FG ship. More to come.
10 October 2004, 07:16 PM
Here is the ship with curves lofted.
10 October 2004, 07:46 PM
Here is another mod to the lower jet. I think it make s more sense from a functional standpoint, the other way would have burned off the wing.
