First thoughts:
Influenced by Sky Captain, series 4 Enterprise and probably Independence Day as well. Alien invasion during WWII with lot's of excuses for retro giant robots and flying saucers.

Yeah, always wanted to do a giant robot, at least a mile high! Suppose I should carry on sketching guess I can't really get away with just this doodle.

How come the double post? I only posted once.

I've worked the idea a little further, not sure if I like the lower camera angle or this higher one?

Heh... nice concept clanger! :D

Started modeling the Spitfires, need to model inside and out as there's going to be lot's of them blown to pieces! While I'm doing this I can mull over how the robots and flying saucers will look.

What have I been doing? Mostly researching Spitfires, turned out to be a fascinating subject, now I'm back to construction. It's been very difficult working out just what it looks like under the skin. I now have lot's of partial reference, but I'm still going to have to guess lot's of it. Since the insides are going to blown up all over the place guessing should be OK.

Looks promising. Maybe a dogfight between spitfire and one of the saucers ? Or Spitfire versus robot, not spitfire running away from robot/saucers ? With of course wrecked landing strip in the background :)

Very nice, your plane looks very good, although it's not yet finished. I like it already. The original robot looks a bit EXTREMELY boring, but I guess that's because you're as good a painter as I am :D Oh, and another thing. In your colored sketch you use an other point of view, I prefer the one from the hand-drawn sketch. It has more depth and looks more action-like.
Anyway, it looks good! Keep it up

azazel That's given me something to think about, it's going to take ages to build all the elements so there's plenty of time to play with the composition.
theduke Yeah, the robot was just plonked in there as I haven't designed it's look yet still thinking about that one.

Idea is fun. Haven't seen sky captain yet unfortunately...

An Idea might be that we have a advantage over the alien invaders by the fact that we shoot antique solid metal bullets that go right through their highly advanced beamshields :)

Modelling looks great, if you really intend to have a lot of destroyed spitfires I assume that you really need that amount of detail, otherwise I would reconsider it...

Anyway, good luck.

Bumbi After azazel put that germ of an idea in my head I'm starting to think the odds shouldn't be too much against us, we must have some chance to win. I am keen on making a complete Spitfire inside and out for no better reason than I fancy doing it, even though, I do hope to have a spectacular mid blown to pieces Spitfire in the picture somewhere.
I haven't seen Sky Captain either, only the trailers probably a good thing as I don't want to be too influenced by it.

Heh. I'm sometimes just as bad when it comes to spending too much time modelling stuff that will not be shown to the camera. Just wanted to make sure that you'll make it in time, but otherwise you'll have a really nice spirfire model at least :)

It's slow going but it is going.
