Latest Update: Final Image: dark assasin (

that's it ! final image ,
about the "grand" theme , i want to capture the moment of epic battle , but battle has different scale , I want to capture the mood of "spy" and"battle" in the space battle ,so it's come out in my image , just want to explain my concept ,but it's hard ,coz my poor english! anyway , enjoy!!

11 November 2004, 08:25 PM (

here is the small thumbnail to find the right composition , story will follow

11 November 2004, 04:32 PM
I like the line work, it is loose but there is nice open space in the composition. :)

I hope to see more soon!

11 November 2004, 11:35 AM (

here is another concept of giant robot and east culture

11 November 2004, 04:10 PM
Those are some really killer looking thumbs!

I think the left concept of the last post, with the guy flying above the giant robot is the best. It allows the viewer to see more of the city and the sky.

Looks great!!!

11 November 2004, 04:52 PM
great action! when about for the line art?

11 November 2004, 05:41 PM (

hi !here is another approach, the story is....
In the distant future , human try to find the new place to live and more resources to feed themself ..
finally survey ship has arrived the edge of the universe and found that they don't be alone in the universe!

11 November 2004, 07:53 PM
jeez,i'm impressed!

11 November 2004, 02:41 AM
I like the composition on the bottom of your last post! :)

Puts the audience right into the action. Good angle too!

11 November 2004, 05:26 PM (

Hi ! i decided to change my concept to this , and here is the story
"it's the final battle of galacxy war in the distant future!the technology and war strategy is back to native . this the scene of the greatest space sniper code name "dark assasin" he is the key point of the war !he can kill the target from very far length with his deadly weapon!no one can stop him even huge battle ship or large fighting robot...maybe this conflict will end with his bullet!!!

11 November 2004, 05:40 PM
Whoa, awesome... more like "the dark one man doomsday device" than an assasin.
Really looking forward to see the color on this one, mainly to figure out what the hell
is he! I see the legs but can`t work out the hands.

11 November 2004, 06:02 PM
Wow, it's really nice to get to see your sketching nice and large instead of the thumbnails. That's looking really nice so far! I'd like to offer the small suggestion of moving the bottom-most spaceship to the left a bit so that its tail isn't cut off by the Assassin's gun, and maybe even pulling the wings in so that the bottom wing isn;t disappearing into his chest, but aside from that, it's looking really beautiful so far. I'm sure you'll do a great job coloring it too!

11 November 2004, 07:07 PM
:bounce: Fantastic! Great drawings!!
the guns, the ships, the character... wow!!! Very very nice.
I wanna to see something in color.

congratulations. Go ahead!

my Grand space opera (

11 November 2004, 03:22 PM (

here is the final line art(i hope) still a noob in coloring :> need your comments

11 November 2004, 03:42 PM
nice ideas and line work - are you keeping the same background to the figure as was shown in the corresponding thumbnail..?

11 November 2004, 01:11 AM
Hey guy, great work!! The character design remind me a lot the anime series "Evangelion". Maybe you can try different thinks on the mecha.... i don't know...if he looks more machine and less humanoid?...its only a sugestion...not to crit.
your draw skills are great:thumbsup: :buttrock:

11 November 2004, 09:21 AM
Nice concept :). A thought about the sniper, it's highly unpractical to carry more than one rifle. So i would leave the two rifles on his back out. Instead i would think about the aiming system on the rifle. I was thinking about having a backpack with an aiming computer in it. Maybye, he's connected to the aiming system somehow(controlling the aiming/shooting process with his brain) The sniperrifle should be a bit bigger too

11 November 2004, 06:48 PM (

just paint to block out the charactor shape , and overall atmosphere , i'm new in coloring , so any advice will very appreciate@@

11 November 2004, 04:58 AM
very nice comp. needs something to make us sweat, a reason we wouldn't want to be in his position, more epic I guess I'm sayin.

11 November 2004, 05:28 PM
i'm new in coloring , so any advice will very appreciate
No worries, it's looking good so far, nice set of hues you've picked. Now just pump pump uf the value differences: With such a strong light source, the hilights (especially on metal) will be pretty intense too.

Have you decided to take out the ships in the background? I liked 'em, they added drama.

11 November 2004, 07:23 PM
I love it. Great detail in the design. I noticed that your composition will have ships in the background, interesting too, but one thing I want to point out here. I find that your character is taking up too much space and it leaves you will little room to work with for the background and you loose that sense of "grand" that is important to convay in your composition. I am very into your designs and style, keep it up :)

11 November 2004, 12:39 AM (

add a little more drop ship to give distant to the picture!

11 November 2004, 01:01 AM
many many thanks to consturctive commments!
BloodTaster : thanks man! and yes eva is my favourite anime , but I think the body of design is different!
lenz79 : yeah! he carry too many guns , and about the aiming system , he recieve target data from GPRS system , he heheh sounds fun??
V_Shane : i decide to focus my concept to hero of space battle , to show how he 's important to the conflict ,many thank to your point !made me have to redesign my composition
walrus : thank you! i put the space ship to make more depth to my image ,
AirbORn : thank you! now i have to add more depth to my image!!

11 November 2004, 08:34 PM
That is fascinating!
! Look forward to seeing more details!

11 November 2004, 08:52 PM
Good work from the 'get go'. Great line art. I think the last image you did is quite powerful. I find the spaceship/fighter behind the main characters head a little distracting.

11 November 2004, 12:30 AM (

a littel update ,just add cloud and reposition the spaceship

11 November 2004, 01:59 PM
Great atmosphere and feel of dynamic! I'll follow this thread :)

11 November 2004, 05:07 PM
Nice work  Have you thought about flipping this horizontal so the action goes from left to right. It may not work and I'm only thinking out loud. Anyway, great job thus far

11 November 2004, 05:26 PM
The clouds look great.
I believe you're in right path.

Very nice!

01 January 2005, 11:34 AM (

small update, enjoy!

01 January 2005, 12:37 PM
Hi Monsit,

Hey man! You also can draw like hell! The robot-design reminds of Appleseed. Well done.

01 January 2005, 01:10 PM
thanks fahlija, yes , i 've influenced by shirow mansamune , he 's very great! , it seem that this time is rush hour! so nobody pop in here ! anyway good luck to you all!

01 January 2005, 01:47 PM
awesome stuff man, and very fast, i like the action of it. at this stage i dont really have anything to crit, its along coming along nicely. keep it up

01 January 2005, 03:49 PM (

here is progress :>

01 January 2005, 05:19 PM
You amaze me, Monsit! Not only are you an insanely talented 3D modeler - your 3D piece is my favorite - but here you are tackling 2D as well, and being unnecessarily modest about it, too. This is looking great, no crits here. Good luck finishing it, and most of all, have fun!
(and then take a break!)

01 January 2005, 06:22 PM
Hi, the look of your mech is very fantastik, i like this and the paint of this it's great, good work and good luck

01 January 2005, 07:59 PM
Great machine!
great colors!
I love the "electric effect" too!

very good. keep going!

01 January 2005, 10:58 PM
I friggin love this work Monsit! Keep it up! Your progress is excellent!

01 January 2005, 01:53 AM
Hi monsit,

your skills rock!

Just a question:
What brush did you use to get the nice gradation on the surface without applying any glossiness on the metal parts?

01 January 2005, 06:53 AM (

here is progress,i think the mech and assasin are done! have to focus to background and effect! wait for your comments!

01 January 2005, 07:30 AM
awesome work, and incredibly fast, makes me sad to think that you can progress such a great painting in such a short time. i like the texture but maybe smooth a few focus parts of the main characters, just to emphasize them a bit. thats all though, its a top painting, good luck with this and your excellent 3d entry

01 January 2005, 01:12 PM (

after non-stop painting , i decided to move to final milestone , now just need comment to fine tune the image , thanks in advance!!

01 January 2005, 01:30 PM
Love the composition. The painting is superb! Only comment I can make at this stage is maybe darken the man's body a little. Bring up the contrast? Just a suggestion as this is a brilliant piece!

Good Luck

01 January 2005, 01:48 PM
monsit, this is very fine piece! it is very cool, only thing i missing is some space opera element. at least some planet on background can help.

01 January 2005, 02:08 PM
nice ....i like your style....

01 January 2005, 03:58 PM
Great progress :applause:

If i can suggest one thing it will be nice if the guy have more colored elements.. I mean that not all the armor pieces have to be of the same color... some color variations or a "camouflage" texture shoud be interesting :curious:

Looking forward to see the final picture :bounce:

01 January 2005, 05:28 PM (

final image!(I hope) many thanks for all of your comments! here is story,

dark assasin is the special agent that work in the cold war
of universe, he has ability to sneak in to the enemy base and complete the objective , but this new mission is not easy as he thought , now it's time to test his close combat fighting , fight for the universe!!

01 January 2005, 05:44 PM
Hi Monsit,

damn are you fast! Great mood and atmosphere. The only little thing is the feel for grandness. Anyway - great work.

01 January 2005, 03:40 AM (

that's it ! final image ,
about the "grand" theme , i want to capture the moment of epic battle , but battle has different scale , I want to capture the mood of "spy" and"battle" in the space battle ,so it's come out in my image , just want to explain my concept ,but it's hard ,coz my poor english! anyway , enjoy!!

01 January 2005, 03:44 AM
congratulations on finishing such a great painting so quickly. the action is superb and i really like the colours. good luck

01 January 2005, 04:46 AM
Beautiful work... I'd love to see you deepen the shadows a bit more which will add some emphasis to the great lighting you have!

Great work!

01 January 2005, 02:43 PM
This turns out to be great, I have been monitoring the 3D stuff that goes on aswell and just realse one of my favourite 3D pic was create from you. What I a surprise, you did manage to do both 2D and 3D challenges and were well and truely capable of delievering it amazingly. I can't say more of your achieve but its seems as though you have masters both of these worlds. Great work and best of luck in both of these worlds.

01 January 2005, 06:41 PM
Lucky you to have already finished! :) It looks just great by the way! Wish you the best luck with your 2 entries!

01 January 2005, 11:06 PM
Congratulations on finishing your entry, what surprises me is how well you did the textures, you could easily mistaken it for a 3D entry :) GOod luck!!

01 January 2005, 11:17 PM
Unfortunately two 3d entries are not possible :)

I love the texture - Iīm a big fan of metal textures. I would be very glad if you
tell me about your way to do it if you donīt mind.

01 January 2005, 05:09 AM
many many thanks guys for your words!! this is my second full project 2d paint , i never finish 2d paint when i do my personal project , but with the project like this challenge , i can get profession artist over the world 's comments , which is very useful to improve skill! but i just begin in this area , i look the orther 2d entries , their entries are awesome and profession , image look sharp and clean , but i think i have a long way to go ! and i really enjoy to paint! ,and again thank you for your support!

Fahrija : sorry to reply you late about the blend method , i just buy don segmiller's charactor design and painting photoshop edition , it' help me start very quickly , i use his techniques about blend , he use heal brush ! i never thought that this tool can use like this , he use heal brush with option set to pattern and select white background , you can use texture aswell , very cool ,
and about texture , i also use custom made brush to paint texture layer and overlay it to color layer, quick and dirty!
one thing that i want to know is how to get the clean and smooth image like your entry! anyway long way to go !! good luck and see ya in next challenge!!

01 January 2005, 06:39 AM
Hi Monsit,
