Well, seems like im the first one to have a go. I tryed to keep it simple, and make some expressive stance with the colors. Dunno if I succeeded, that is up to you to decide.

Took about an hour in photoshop no pencil or wacom:)

aghill, very good! And you mean to say you did that with a mouse???
Hehe yeah mouse'd it all, and thanks. I Like yours too. It actually a pretty hard subject to get around, since attack in nature is prevailing and the epitome of a saint is to die for the religion. I cant wait to see what others will come up with:)

Different kind of Saint, different kind of attack...for you non-American Football fans, the guy in yellow is playing for the New Orleans' Saints.

I found this tiny jpg of this illustration i did back in college, thought I post it, kind of goes with the theme. When I brought it in for critique, people started asking me if i was OK, if I needed to talk to someone...blah blah. The subject of the illustration was suicide—don't blame them for asking. I could see why they might have been concerned, but I can assure you everythign was OK!
I just wasnted to create something that was impactful with a very strong subject matter. In that regard I guess it was most effective.

I'll try to find the original, Acrylics about 25" x 17"

10 October 2004, 07:14 AM

McSpirit, cLos71 thanks! I'm glad that you guys also assume saints would only "attack" the devil, (or the evil). The thing is that saints never attack anyone! That's why they're saints!
I know, I know this is CGtalk where anything is bad.
Nice entries everyone.

On the theme abortion and what would happen if a saint attacked her own.
Tho _not_ a argument on the prochoise/prolife debate.
Photoshop, a wee bit more than an hour.

edit, finished it and posted it here

40mins Painter/Wacom

Excellent sketches Adamos, Art2, Alice & Taron333.

Thanx, yeah, that brush technique really enriches the workflow to sketching A LOT. Just so that everyone knows what I'm talking about, this is about letting simple brush strokes work as both lighting and texturing of the surface, not to blend around like crazy, but to use pressure controlled opacity (and size here and there) to act as direct "modeling" tool. I previously was doing a lot a lot a lot of blending with a smudge type of brush (openCanvas setting for paintbrush, painter has the same type of thing, photoshop doesn't!). Right now I'm using it more for bigger gradients/backgrounds and try to do most of my surface work with only using the brushes as they come....hard-edge, opacity-pressure, size-pressure and a good amount of color-picking. Also I do occasionally apply a light color on a surface and smudge it only to get the mixed color, then undo the procedure and paint with the newly picked color. Very Very Very quick method to roll over everything....

SO...oh, besides, this truely effects the speed of the sketching...I'll post some examples on the "speed paints?" section soon...

Alice - Holy $h!t ... that's the most beautiful and artful piece I've seen you do. Well done girl. My vote for Sketch of the Week!

alice - nice work, different from your previous

nice work everyone!

Two hours in little chops of 30 minutes during the whole day... Wacom and my first go at Painter 8!!! I still can't find most of the things I'm looking for but so far I like their brushes!

10 October 2004, 01:29 AM
Taron - thanks for the tips. I really need to work faster...
Art2 and Adamos: loved your works - laughed quite hard when viewing them. What brushes do you use to color your works, Art2? I really like the cel-like, simple quality of your coloring techniques.

Pencil, Painter.. about 3-4 hours.

10 October 2004, 04:33 AM

About 1.5 hours

10 October 2004, 09:57 AM
Thank you Nemein.
I use PainterIX, brush: Digital Watercolor, New Simple Water, opacity 100% and 50%.
I loved the digital watercolor in Painter8, but it had this annoying feature that when you
saved the .rif, it lost it's watercolor attributes... But in IX it works great and fast.

10 October 2004, 11:32 AM

10 October 2004, 07:51 PM
The first thing that I thought of when I read the topic of these sketches was the movie "Boondock Saints." If you don't know the movie, it's basically about two brothers who take out the bad guys in their city and get nicknamed Boondock Saints.

:shrug:Sorry for not posting any artwork but instead I would just like to suggest this movie.
