hi im in the neighborhood to buy some fat upgrades for my computer but i was wondering, judging by my current system, if i should upgrade my vid card or like my proc/ram whatev for better results in open gl and misc 3d operations/rendering.

my system reads as follows:
vid card: msi TI4400 *128 megs
pent. 4. 3 gig
gig of ddr ram

Theres not much you can do to speed up rendering other than to buy a dual CPU machine. A new gfx card will help with the opengl view alot, you memory is fine.

I'll second that. Get a new video card.

Check and see what kind of motherboard you have and if it supports HT. If your CPU isn't already hyper threaded, replacing it with a HT version may be a cheap/easy intermediate solution instead of getting a whole new system for dual CPU.

my motherboard's an asus p4p800 delux, intel 865pe chipset, fsb 800mhz dual ddr 400. i thought it supported it but im not sure, would you know?

Is this ( it? Does your current CPU support HT? Boot into your BIOS and check. Rumor has it that even XP Home will show 2 CPUs but I don't know, XP Pro is a better bet. After all said and done try and make your renderer use multiple threads, or enable the SMP option, however that's done and see if the results are better.
