Hey people,

Im looking to spend about 500-600$ USD on building a secondary machine for my animation work when I am at home. Ive been looking at several types of processors and setups I could use, but in all honesty, im not to technically familiar with hardware. I will be using 3d studio max 6 on it, and that will be its sole purpose. Im generally working on high-poly models, and occasionally on low-poly, if that helps any....

I guess the question is what are you currently working on? (machine wise)

at the moment i have:

p4 1.8b
512 pc2100 ram
geforce fx 5900xt

as for the hdds and cd rom drives, i dont think those are really relevant to the proformance, but i do have an extra of each in this machine that i can use in the new one, the only things i would really need to get are a motherboard, cpu, graphics card, power supply, and memory
