Hey sagi_13 your best yet!! Great work.

10 October 2004, 05:37 PM
As always there is awsome work here from all!

10 October 2004, 06:22 PM

"Look what I found in daddy's drawer"

It is one of your best works so far! My only crit is about her skin tone. I know she is supposed to be in semidarkness, but her skin still looks too purple to me, especially when contrasted with the orange in her shirt. I'd like to see her skin tones warmed up some. Really good job - gave me chills when associated with the caption!

edit: MOUSE?! You really need a tablet, man! That is even more amazing for drawing with a mouse! I tried it today and I suck with just a mouse!

30 minutes Photoshop7 .....
What fun... *cackles*

10 October 2004, 07:10 PM
Really nice sketchs as usual guys!

I just got myself a little cheap wacom so this is my second doodle with a wacom ever! As you can tell I'm still getting used to it... I'm pretty sure my next one will be better.

10 October 2004, 07:33 PM
Cliche subject, cliche execution. This one could also be called: my first dive in the deep waters of realistic figure drawing. And it would be great if someone could explain to me what is wrong, especially with the head.

mare than 2.5 H | PS

Vitriolic you're doing really well!

10 October 2004, 08:00 PM
Great Job Garma!

Lighting is not bad and neither is your color pallet. The head is a bit large, and the limbs come to a pretty severe point. (which is fine except that from what you said in your post you want realism.)

The right leg is a bit twisty. Do you use photo ref? Photo refrence is the ONLY way to learn how to draw a realistic figure in my opinion. ( live models are better, but who has access to one of those 24/7)

Great Job though!

10 October 2004, 08:19 PM
sagi! definetly you best! I think you should use more reference!

drawMonger like your second one! keep it up!

2h photoshop+wacom

10 October 2004, 08:24 PM
Damn Goro, ur pic is wonderful!
Ok heres mine (ps+wacom almost 3 hours)

10 October 2004, 08:30 PM
Everyone has their off days and today was mine. I couldnt think of anything for this one except of stupid Underworld. Damn those terrible movies.

10 October 2004, 08:37 PM
My best really? yey thank you thank you, I guess practicing here really makes a difference. Robin I agree a wacom would be great, but I dont have one, hm maybe it will be a good investment, thought I heard it takes some time to get used to.. I guess I can practice that too.

Hm well I have some time to kill so I will look again at the skin tone (textures are not my forte,)
thanks for the comments everyone, they are very encouraging.

10 October 2004, 09:39 PM
Mustardwash -- Is that the new Frederick's of Hollywood body armor she's wearing?

Sagi -- I agree, that's your best yet. Don't know if this is helpful, but you can draw her right arm on one layer and the gun and her left hand in a separate layer. That way you avoid having to draw around the gun.

Garma -- Head and torso look good, but arms and legs below the knees need more mass. Also, knee and foot should always point in the same direction.

Goro -- I don't know if this makes sense, but that's so good I can feel how heavy the gun is.

Such great entries today!

10 October 2004, 09:41 PM
First of all; great topic, and yet awesome entries! Really AWESOME! Especially that ones of Drawmonger (that pencil look, is awesome!), NancyYo (wow, great style!), Goro (WOOOOOW! Thats awesome! :buttrock: ), and -andy- (that way you set that lighting = really cool! Also the mood is great!).

sagi_13; Tablets are not expensive more at all; one week ago I bought myself a Trust tablet (distributed by Medion), for just 30 Euros! (that'll be about $ 40 ;) ) And btw; it works really good... :)

And now here's my entry ;) ,

- Photoshop 7.0
- Wacom tablet (it's from Medion, but it's just like a Wacom, I think ;) )
- about 2 hours (I'm still learning how to paint more quick & with better style ;) )
- for interested people: WIP-cell:

The pic:

Of cource I hope you guys (and girls of course!) like it...!

Painter - 30min - Wacom

10 October 2004, 10:11 PM
whoa! andrewley your picture made an impact.
goro, you´re SO good at rendering light (did you use a reference?)

here´s mine, 1:30h in photoshop as usual...

10 October 2004, 10:35 PM

1.5 hours : pencil to Photoshop (mouse)

10 October 2004, 10:37 PM
Ok I spent 30 mintues more I fixed the back arm and I made a pink-fleshcolor layer opacity20 over the skin, it still kind of looks dark, but I it makes a bit of a difference, (you'd hve to see them side by side).. thanks for the ideas.
Vitriolic he he he good sketch man, she made me laugh she was not what I pictured when I thought of girl, Id be scared. Oooo I like the second one too, she is pretty, and I like her expression, nice style man.
drawMonger I like both, but I like the second one better because its a great play with scale and I like that you kept it black and white.
she scares me... she looks like the wife of chucky, lol, so mean!
Garma - she looks good, what makes her look kind of weird is her pose, her head seems to as if her body should also be looking straight at us, not turned around. I think that might be it.
WOW the girl, the lighting the gun, its awesome... it looks real.. and I understand what Ilikesoup means with feeling the weight of the gun, cause I can.
Nice, I like the action pose.

I liked that movie too, I like that you can only see her profile nice.
$40 bucks eh? hmm I ll have to stop by my local compuer store then.
sweet man, i really like it.
she is hot man
- cool i really like it too nice lighting.
i like this, tell me how in earth did you make ur gun look so metalic, I cant do it!

10 October 2004, 10:41 PM
~2 hours, Photopaint/Wacom

10 October 2004, 10:43 PM
Such great entries this time!

My take: (Photoshop/Wacom/1.5 hours)

10 October 2004, 11:18 PM
this is kinda like the first time im posting a sketch... and it comes all the way from INDIA.... its nothing great but its my third sketch on my tablet.. still gettiin used to it..anyone with suggestion or comments .. feel free..

10 October 2004, 11:27 PM
sagi_13: looks alot better. The flesh tone layer helps alot IMO. Its cool to see the improvement in everybody here. Your pics keep getting better!

ilikesoup: yeah, you can find it in the cliche' bad ass chicks section of your local Fredericks.

Great stuff goro, andrewley, kirt, & agustus. Your guys' stuff inspires.

10 October 2004, 12:17 AM
Girl in the future getting arrested on a rooftop. I like this sketch enough that i'll finish the image in the future and probably keep the idea of a keyring sized handgun that loads by pulling a string attached to the other finger.

10 October 2004, 01:07 AM
I'm using blue much too often lately:)

Fairy tale - 2hours, phsp, wacom

Vitrolic: nice style, but she has 4 fingers in right hand and 5 in left :)
Sagi_13: Yes Dutchman have right, U could buy Pentagram tablets and it's noname clones for a bargain, this is not wacom technology but its great for a start. I started with B6 noname and it cost me about 30 euros, I belive U could have A5 for this price now, check it. If U try a tablet once, even a cheaper one, You will never return to mouse.

Kvaalen: and this is why sagi should buy a tablet, nice one.
Kirt: Lara Croft enchanced, nice design
Sampo: Great style! I love it.

excellent work all!!!

10 October 2004, 02:44 AM
Hmmmm - 'Girl with a Gun.'

So can tomorrow's sexist fantasy daily sketch topic be 'Man with a Vacuum?'

Yes, I'm being sarcastic.

Seriously though, there are some amazing 'sketches' on this topic. Great job everyone!

10 October 2004, 03:23 AM

"Youuuuuu'll shoot your eye out. . ." About 2 hours with a Wacom + ps

10 October 2004, 03:30 AM
Here's mine. Great stuff everyone!

10 October 2004, 03:30 AM
an hour and a half in Sketchbook Pro 1.1

10 October 2004, 03:40 AM
About 2 hours PS; Wacom.

Too many fantastic sketches to mention each one. Great thread everybody!

Garma- She looks pretty good. I agree about her limbs coming to a sharp point, think of the detail of the shape of a hand or foot at the end. Her head is a bit too large, and turned too far past her shoulder. Her shoulder would have to be turned a little more for that much of her face to show. A good measure for heads is that however tall her head is, her shoulders should be about twice that wide. A hand is roughly the same size as from chin to hairline. Definately look at the links to the Loomis books, he gives great guidelines for rough size estimates for figures.

10 October 2004, 03:53 AM
I thought I was going to be the only one with a little girl and a squirt gun - oh well!

Pencil / Paper / Photoshop / Wacom - 1.5 hrs.

digital_bobert - great intensity & lighting!
Goro - gorgeous
CrackDown - wonderful use of color
Vitriolic - hilarious!

10 October 2004, 04:39 AM
Yay for purple squirt guns eh? That's cute roozelle. I thought I'd be the only one too.

I've been watching these daily sketches since the beginning. Lots of great talent. I'm doing my best to join the fun from now on.

10 October 2004, 05:27 AM
Some of you guys are overly talented. Anyway here's what I came up with. Hour and a half-ish Photoshop Including a few do-overs :)

10 October 2004, 06:30 AM

Tried a new style.

10 October 2004, 07:19 AM
Having seen this type of topic on many message boards, I'm glad many of you chose the squirtgun route.

I chose to show that even martyrs have daughters who just want their daddies back.

Painter 7, 2 hours (give or take)...

10 October 2004, 08:34 AM
Lopoly: Lol yeah, good spotting. What's a few fingers between friends? :)

Goro: Wow. Did you rotate the canvas at all while drawing her? Most people would find it hard to draw an upsidedown face! Very nice work.

Sagi: Everyone's right, I think you're improving greatly. I definitely agree with Robin in that you should think about getting a tablet - it takes a while to get used to not looking at the pen while you draw, but you get much more freedom than a mouse in the end.

Kirt: She's got a real pur-dy mouth! Nice to see a B&W sketch to mix things up. Do you usually go with pencil then mouse?

Garma: This sketch business is great fun! :) Nice bunch of people too.

10 October 2004, 08:48 AM
Roberto, love the facial expression...really exudes charisma.

Art2, i really like your use of colour in this one.

Ilikesoup, as comic as ever! Good one!!

Fantastic sketches all :buttrock:

10 October 2004, 10:08 AM
Thanks roozelle, yours is great, I love the style. Some superb entries here.

10 October 2004, 10:15 AM

10 October 2004, 10:24 AM
Indeed Russ, that is bloody awesome.

10 October 2004, 10:26 AM

Photoshop/Wacom/About 45 minutes

Nice enties y'all. Sorry for the standard approach ;)

10 October 2004, 02:24 PM
wooow, tons of good pics in this one. Funny everybody got such great "inspiration" from such a standard subject :). The face on digitalbobert's pic is extremely well btw. GJ all!

10 October 2004, 02:55 PM
Thanks, drawMonger! You've got two nice drawings yourself. I like how this topic inspired so many b&w sketches.
I just noticed that Vitriolic has two great color sketches, too. The girl in the second pic is stunning!
Russell_Collins -- "If I had a rocket launcher, I'd make somebody pay." Don't know if you remember the song, but great work.
3db2 -- "Oy, girlie! Watch where ya point that thing." Nice clean lines.
Unraveled -- I just figured out it's a cigarette lighter. I just thought she was blowing really hard on the gun muzzle.
The Ton -- "When guns are babied, only babies will have guns!" Great colors. That's a lot of spent shells, BTW.
Sampo & Andrewley, great colors!
Kirt & Roberto, always great to see you join in.
Too many standouts today, but Jasel's is just the cat's pyjamas! I'd love to see that made into a postage stamp.

Sorry, but I've pooped out before mentioning everyone. Awesome work! Couldn't have been better even if it were "Avatars with guns". Or could it. . . ?

10 October 2004, 08:17 PM
Hi everyone, after much hovering I think its time to dive in

Late I know but gotta start somewhere

2.5 hours painter

ILikesoup thnx for the compliment I appreciate that!

Sampo thnx! I did not use any reference
Roberto lovely. Great expression!

russell collins nice mood

Vitriolic I rotated the canvas a couple of times for the
face. It's indeed not so easy to draw upsidedown:)

3db2 wow! great sketch! love it!!! you have my vote

Nice work everyone!
cheers! Goro

10 October 2004, 11:58 PM
35 mins Painter/Wacom

Just trying out the liquid inks for the 1st time, resist is pretty cool.

LightFreeze - welcome on board, keep diving in best way to improve. The position of the gun is a little strange, more like she's concealing it rather than just fired it.
Supervlieg - cool looking gun, hope it can fly as well :)
The Ton - nice cutesy image
3db2 - nice line work on this, gun placement of the gun feels strange for me, is she throwing it away or just about to cap an innocent bystander :)
Alice - another one with nice lines
Russell_Collins - really like the composition & take on this one
zem - this ones getting there
roozelle - like the colours , oh & the flippers on this one
digital_bobert - hehe this ones pretty crazy cool but where are the bullet holes ;)
Ilikesoup - hehe made me laugh once I saw her poor eye
Art2 - nice & clean lines, good job on the shading as well
_IO_ - like the elongated style on this
RobertoOrtiz - like the wistful 'who shall I shoot next' expression
td.studios - welcome, hope to see some more pics, oh nice gun as well
augustus - nice mood, like this one, has the gun fired or is that light breaking through the clouds?
sagi_13 - looking good, only comment is the light direction feels a little conflicting between the arm & foot
Kirt - damn, v cool sketch, like the design of the knee pads & boots
Sampo - great, love the retro gun
andrewley - cool as always, the colour of the muzzle flash feels a little at odds with the rest of the colours
-Andy- looks nice, good job on the cloth
Goro - great, really nice weight on the gun & I like the light in the eyes really helps it
Vitriolic - heh really nice colours on this, either a mobsters grandma or someone's wishing they weren't mugging her :)

phew - making comments got way out of hand there :argh:

10 October 2004, 08:09 AM
That kicks ass MrGrinch! :buttrock: Loving the way she's holding the gun and the dark look in her eyes. Looks like she's about to 'reach out and touch someone'...

10 October 2004, 11:20 AM asked for it...:scream:

10 October 2004, 11:36 AM
Damn people ! girls and guns really inspire you ! Some really nice and creative entries in that thread !

10 October 2004, 08:27 PM
Well, I've decided to add a couple of women with guns i've done some time ago, even though its against the rules and i'm terribly late... i'm sure i'll be forgiven though :)
(the second image is my protest against always having the main characters in game hot chix.. i decided to make a NEW and UGLY version of blizzard Nova.. the character from sc:ghost)

10 October 2004, 07:19 PM asked for it...:scream:

Yep... that was what I was thinking... but... not a gun... so much as... well... you know.

10 October 2004, 08:47 PM
MrGrinch, that's really cool.

10 October 2004, 08:54 AM
