Painter IX - 20 minutes
This is why I never go to amusement parks :(

10 October 2004, 07:12 PM
Don't ask :X - Photshop - took me far too long for this messy result, just started skechting, my first thing sinds I got my tablet back :)

10 October 2004, 08:14 PM
Floriz-- Nice work! I think I would have drawn one of those scenes, then plopped down on the couch. I like the variety of activities. Donald is very funny.

Xanothis-- um, fear of clowns? I like how everything is consistently morbid--the dead fish, the noose on the teddy bear.

10 October 2004, 08:53 PM
A fear of clowns (caulrophobia) seems to be rather common... I know of a few people who have this phobia. One of them even burst into tears at a clown show... They just seem to rub off in a bizarre way... the legacy of Victorian era freakshows, perhaps; the same class as the legendary 'baby-in-a-jar'.

But yeah... that's my excuse! :>

10 October 2004, 09:00 PM
Are you all familiar with Bingo, Bingo the clowno? This'll get your clown phobia going.

10 October 2004, 09:05 PM
Hehe, nice entries, both of you. And yes, clowns can be very scary...

Photoshop/Wacom/2 hours

10 October 2004, 10:00 PM
Hehe finally time for the DSG, Photoshoppe CS and 2 hours of my lifetime.

@xanothis: Yeah clowns are scary see the character on my site, too bad there's no background on your drawing the concept is nice :)
@floriz: Nice collage drawing :)
@jasel: Nice take on the theme :D

10 October 2004, 10:10 PM
Here's my version of "a day at the amusement park". 1h, OpenCanvas 1.1, wacom graphire.

I think I'm starting to understand some OC subtilities.... need more training though, that's obvious :)

As usual, WEP included (

Jasel: Very nice one, can't stop staring at the lights on these lips and teeths, very well done
Floriz : I really like yours, it's fun, various, and despite the cartoon style, your characters seem alive
Xanothis : wouldn't appreciate meeting your clown in a dark alley  The Idea is really original :)
Jawine : (see your post in my preview window ! :) ) : good feeling of speed, well done :)

10 October 2004, 10:14 PM
well, I don't have much time lately, and I will have even less in the future because I've just started my classes, but I wanted my 100th post in cgtalk to be a daily sketch, so here it is, 1hour in OpenCanvas 1.1 (thanks garma for telling me it was free)

and here ( is the wpe, just in the case someone is interested (I doubt it, but it wont do any bad)

Jasel, good idea, great reflections, amazing image
Floriz, that are 6 sketches in one, that's a lot of work! nice colors
xanothis, with clowns like yours everybody would be caulrophobic (bufff... what a word)

10 October 2004, 11:08 PM
Xanothis: nice idea, good painting in 20 min. I was install painter IX, but i need some tutorials for beging. I wanna ask you a question, Wich brushes is favorite for painting, and what brush you use for skecthing? If you can explain clearly (my english is not very well) i will be realy good. Thank you..
Floriz: ahah realy funny! Good multiframe works. I like the boy scared from dracula.. realy realy funny . great work :)
Jasel: Nice scare! i like your details.
jawine: I like your work because its look like oil paint on canvas. More artistic. Great.
Baramin: i see your lightning is good. But you need some practice as you told. This is why we are here. Just more details and everythings fine.
elmasfeo: Ahah, what a nigtmare!. realy good idea. nice work.

[sorry for bad english]

Bad day at the amusement park...
PS Wacom_ 30 min

10 October 2004, 02:24 AM
A day at the amusement park.
Ok, this pretty much sucks, but its my first time playing around with Painter IX. Lost track of time, but maybe 1.5 hrs w/Wacom. Love the tool, but not too proud of this sketch.

10 October 2004, 03:14 AM
A bit over an hour, ps& wacom
There's a fair going on a stone's throw from my apartment this week. I haven't seen this horse, but I know he's out there. . .

10 October 2004, 03:26 AM
Good one, ilikesoup! Are you sure that's a horse? His ears are kind of long, so he looks more like a mule. Maybe you should get him "the patch"? :)

10 October 2004, 09:37 AM
My first image-post :)! Hello everybody.
Roughly 1:30 mins. Photoshop.

10 October 2004, 10:12 AM
hehehheh... 1,5h Painter

Sampo: nice!

10 October 2004, 10:53 AM
Anubis-Halil - I'm quite new to this digital painting thing, so I use the brushes already there, without changing them much. For sketching, I like to use the Pencil - 2B tool (with a bit of smoothing, switching <Brush Creator -> Stroke Designer -> General -> Method> to 'Cover', and Subcategory to 'Soft Cover') and for painting, I used a mixture of Oils - Bristle Oils and Acrylics - Opaque Detail Brush at different sizes.

Hope this answers your question.

Hello guys!
ive tried out the OpenCanvas3 trial version, and it doesnt have the saving option.. =/
I also saw that most of you use the 1.1 version, and I was wondering where can I get it?

Cheers.. =)

10 October 2004, 11:22 AM
Hehe Art2 that's a classic... :applause:

10 October 2004, 01:15 PM
Xanthan, same thing happened to me last week, I found 1.1 here, ( after a long search

It seems like even if there are not more avatar-topics we can continue having fun with them, very good one, art2!

10 October 2004, 01:37 PM
Not too enthused today, but here it is anyway...

50 mins P/Shop

Anyone got any idea if there's a mac version of OC??

10 October 2004, 01:41 PM

10 October 2004, 01:54 PM
robinayles-- All the better to hear you with, my dear. :) I really need to start using reference pictures.

Sampo-- Love that style! Nice work.
Art2-- "You must be this high to ride the Mustard Wash." Love it! None shall pass!
The Ton-- Color and perspective really sell this picture. Great idea.

10 October 2004, 02:31 PM
Haha, there's only one way to make you do a daily sketch Alice :D :D

10 October 2004, 02:43 PM
keepitevil - good, but disturbing - remind me not to go to the amusement park that you go to!
sampo - I think that roller coaster is pretty scary if it knocked out her EYES!
art2 - great one!
The Ton - really good, nice mood!
Alice - love it! especially like the guy being flung off the roller coaster in the background - must be the same roller coaster as the one in sampo's post!

Soup and Robin: Cheers guys, you kinda cheered me up about a pic I wasn't too keen on... Nice one...

Alice, you crack me up! (although I did notice a few spelling mistakes on your CV...Tut tut! See me after class!) Just one question though... what does THPBT mean???

Roozelle!! Where the hell did you find the time to spend FIVE hours on your pic??? I struggle to find one!! Well worth it though... Very nice, great little amusing details...

Well, I got home from work last night at 6pm and stayed up drawing until nearly midnight. Normally, I don't have so much free time to draw - but I wanted to finish the sketch I started. - So, I just made it the priority of my evening.

10 October 2004, 06:35 PM
40 mins, Photoshop + Wacom

10 October 2004, 07:06 PM

Adobe Illustrator CS : 30 Min : Wacom

10 October 2004, 09:08 PM

2min/photoshop (forgot)

10 October 2004, 10:10 PM
Alice, you crack me up! (although I did notice a few spelling mistakes on your CV...Tut tut! See me after class!) Just one question though... what does THPBT mean???

Im swedish! Im allowed to make spellingerrors :)
And if you dont know what THPBT! means then you realy have to catch up on your bloom county :D (And its back!)

10 October 2004, 10:57 PM
Ok then, after a quick peek at Google, it would seem that most of the binary speaking world knows what THPBT means, except me....

Bugger. I guess I have some penguin-related catching up to do...

Although I must confess I have never seen Bloom County before. I don't get to see much here in this box... it's too dark and they only let me out for feeding and cleaning...

Anyway, as for the spellng I'll lett yoo off thiz once seeing as your swedush and all... ;)

The Ton

\m/ \m/

10 October 2004, 03:57 AM
The Ton -- Not my best work, but I hope this gets the lesson across. :D

edit: Fun Fact!
The term "give a raspberry" which means making a farting noise as a means of heckling someone has Cockney origins. Using a rhyming game to create slang words, fart is rhymed with raspberry tart. Fart and tart are dropped and "raspberry" becomes equated with a farting noise, which sometimes appears in comics as Thpbt!

10 October 2004, 06:18 AM
immerzel: such a nice picture and avatar! It would have been even nicer if explorer actually COULD handle .png and not just add a blue background filling out the squares :(

10 October 2004, 07:52 AM
Thanks Alice!

I didn't know IE was that bad at handling PNG. I am using Firefox, havent touched IE for a very long time, until just now to check up on your comment.

Man... PNG is such a nice fomat, I will make a GIF version for my avatar. With my doodles it's somewhat different. I am a gradient and circle fool. That doesn't go well with GIF..

Back to (old) square JPG then.... AAARRGGG!

Thanks for warning me about this...

10 October 2004, 03:36 PM
I hope I am not late, but anyways here is mine

Photoshop and mouse 1.5 hours, maybe 2.
I used a reference for the clown.
I texturized the tent, and now I wish I didnt but I overused my undos and I couldnt change it. Oh well.

10 October 2004, 11:17 PM

Trying a new style again, also going more for the "freak" show, amusement park.
