I guess I am first now...
I know.... I am at work and my Wacom is at home, of course... (I mean, who needs a wacom at a hotel reception :argh: :scream: )
But MS Paint isnt soo bad..only my mouse skills are...
guess everybody knows what that sign is?! Took my 5 Minutes (2 to paint and 3 to write this...)

09 September 2004, 07:24 PM
Fnote: that looks good, though i believe it would be better if you made the lighting even stronger, on the ship for instance :)

you know.. toxic waste isn't really waste.. sort of.
this one took too ling and ended up messy and not how I wanted it. Better luck next time I guess.
tuzz: thehe :) took me a while but I got it
Cyanid: a slight bit too blurry, took me some time to see what was going on. I like the concept tho.
Fnote: fabulous colors, but the lighting on the ship is odd which breaks it a little (the picture not the ship :) )
Art2: you just saw star wars or what :scream: execution is nice, great line quality

I really put a lot of time in it and its one of my fav pieces that I have done so far. I feel like I am improving!
Please any comments/critiques I would appreciate it.. thanks/
Photoshop and mouse (still no tablet) 2.5 hours.-- used references,
"On one side we live in excess, while the rest of the world looks at us with starving eyes"
09 September 2004, 10:48 PM
Garma: thank you! Yep I'm a SF fan... I like bots, laser guns, space ships, Borg and Amazon women on the moon ;)

09 September 2004, 12:11 AM
sagi_13: I love the bottom right portion(garbage can and little kid/monster thing" it has a very unique and cool style. Id say its a definate improvement over your other pieces. Keep at it and you can only get better.:)

I just wanted to thank everyone for their crits on my peice. I have decided to tweak what all of you suggested, feel free to check it out. Thanks. Great work everyone, super cool thread!

Novaine and thebigxer-
Thanks for your comments they are encouraging!
Yes I did spend the most time on the little figure in the bottom, lol its not a monster, it is a little starving kid, deformed by starvation, skin and bones. I decided to make him grey and black because he is someone that we dont often think about when we throw away things that others could survive on. I think the monster would be the wasted food... but that is getting to deep into it.
Yeah I cant wait to get my hands on a tablet I bet it is nicer than drawing on a mouse.
:) thank you

Paris Hilton - one man's trash is another man's treasure.
Used reference photo, PS w/Wacom, about 2 hours.
09 September 2004, 03:24 AM
I was watching TV and got an idea for another sketch. I used ref to help me paint the car front and the arms. I think it really helped with the realism of the piece. It's suppose to be a garbage ship dumping it's load, but some of the garbage doesn't want to be dumped :)
FNote: very nice piece. I'm trying to get more color in my work and less line work and your piece pushed me to go farther than I might otherwise have.
09 September 2004, 03:46 AM
Pfft.. that took me forever... 2 hours in Photoshop CS.. I dunno why it took me forever... I guess I was struggling with human stuff. >_< Plus I totally had different idea (baby) but it turned out to be the opposite. >_< It sucks! WHy do I even show it? Oh well.. *sighs*
09 September 2004, 04:36 AM
I had two ideas--
Mice playing with an old bananna peel, or Aladdin. I enjoyed doing this, used more transparent colors. Not sure why it's so foggy in the desert, though.
About 1.5 hours ps + wacom
Dreammaster--Actually it's a very nice drawing, I especially like her legs. Don't beat yourself up for changing your mind mid-drawing, it happens. I'm glad you posted.

First thing I thought of.....trashiness is in the eye of the beholder
I am new to the forum by the way, I used to do a lot of pen and ink, so I thought I would try and apply some of what I have learned from lurking....c&c welcomed
forgot....about 1 hr PS7
09 September 2004, 05:33 AM
Cool topic. PS as always. 30 minutes. I like the face, i'm gonna re use it in my comic book and finish it when i have more time lol.
Great job novacaine on both of them. the first is similar to my first idea. Also liked gemcaps' a lot. Funny idea behind it.
09 September 2004, 05:51 AM
Pencil / Pen / Paper / Wacom / Photoshop 3.5 hrs
Ilikesoup - great idea
robinayles - ha, ha! brilliant!

09 September 2004, 11:52 AM

09 September 2004, 12:38 PM

09 September 2004, 02:32 PM
Hi all you guys!!!
Taron- I admire your work!! Its awsome! =)
Well heres mine.. Its kinda lamecuz its not actually the subject, its more of a "Everyones treasure!", but it also could be someones trash.. =)
Dunno really the exact time but I belive that it was about 1-2 hours max. Ps cs/ Tablet.
Hope you like it!
09 September 2004, 08:42 PM
Another trash king. About one and half hours, Wacom/Photopaint. Not quite finished, but I'm tired.
09 September 2004, 08:46 PM
Taron.. you rock! How did you manage to do the background and stuff in opencanvas cuz the layers are multiple by default. :(
I experimented with it and hated it at the first second when layers aren't working to my expectation.. and tried 3.05 one... crashes too much.
Ilikesoup: :) Thanks.
10 October 2004, 09:45 AM
openCanvas1.1 has three types of layers (buhu...really...it is a bit pathetic, but here they go): Multiply, Add and Subtract (what the hell is that good for..hehe...) Anyway, Multiply and Add both are quite powerful once you wrapped your methods around using them to your advantage...eh...of course...
So in this case I really exploited that a lot. I made the skin almost monochromatically blue with all the simple light on it. Then I used another multiply layer to add more color to it (red cheeks, specs and such). After that I used additive layer to add highlights, but also to add some lighter colors over top. The background then was very easy just a combination out of Additive Layers for the lights and smudging stuff in the multiply layers....that's all...very efficient actually! Hmmm...I could post the wpe, but I don't want to stretch my limited bandwidth too much....if anyone wants it, just point me to a place where you'd like me to post it and I drop it there.
3.05 sucks in many ways, while in some other ways it is way more usable, too...very sad story...I would really like to talk to these guys...they did a fabulous job with 1.1!
Make sure you understand the brushes and make yourself some settings (store them) then you can easily jump back and forth with the hotkeys and painting becomes absolutely a breeze...prefer it over photoshop for that reason (and painter!)
10 October 2004, 09:34 PM
Taron, yeah I know how layers work...
but I hate multi layers unless i'm adding shadows.
That would be harder to do with background anyways cuz.. you can't just paint over it. Know what I'm saying?
Maybe thats why I like painter cuz it gives me full control of colors.. no dodging/add, or anything. :D Unless i want to add some.
Thanks again :) maybe I'll try opencanvas again someday.. I still have it on my computer. :)
10 October 2004, 09:31 AM
Another attempt, still learning. 2 hours, photoshop + mouse
10 October 2004, 07:04 PM
Hahaha, that God one is great. :)
