Here's the sketch:

And here is wireframe pic from wievport (unsmoothed yet),
still low detail, and no mask yet...

His name is Albert, he is slightly mutated, and he is afraid to take off his mask. His armour is made of some junk, I'm thinking about giving him some more weapon... What do you think?

Heh,heh, is he a kid?? That'd be cool, it be the first too, I think you have a good start going, good luck

02 February 2002, 01:42 PM
He is not kid, he is just small and thin, perhaps of starvation, and perhaps of radiation.
Will post some update tomorrow, just made him a mask, and still adding details.

02 February 2002, 12:29 PM
Some update - renderings. I'm rigging him now, that's painful, and have to texture him.

Saw Dave Wilson's renderings of his assasin, and though I'll try it...

Older one:

Comments welcome...

hey i like it so much, i reminds me nightmare before christmas, the movie of tim burtin hehe

02 February 2002, 10:43 PM
Iwas thinking the same thing about being tim burton inspired......nice all it needs are black and white stripes on the legs....j/k :D
great work man!

02 February 2002, 11:23 PM
and...... TIME!!!
ok.. you're very fast!!

Are you going to do a complete scene?

one critic? maybe he needs something in his back.

02 February 2002, 12:37 PM
You know, I've never seen this tim burton film.
Pabbloz: I think about making a short comic-like story with him, or maybe even animate him. Idea of giving him somethink on his back may be good, will think about it. You say I'm fast... Ok, for this contest I work now faster (and more) than usual, partially because of software - modelling in wings3d is a pleasure, and it goes really fast, but most time-eating part is still to do (texturing).

Albert is rigged and skinned now, so here are some pose tests:

02 February 2002, 01:06 PM
oh, this is my favorite,, very cool style, nice rendering

02 February 2002, 01:15 PM
yeah, he's really cool. He looks like a hyperactive character.

i really like that bottom right pose.

02 February 2002, 03:22 PM
hey!! great character....really cool posing!!!

02 February 2002, 03:23 PM
to be honest, your sketch was not my favorite, but finally, your character looks very nice
you'de better add elements to make it look more protected

02 February 2002, 01:03 PM
Playing with poses and lighting...

02 February 2002, 02:06 PM
hmm I'm not sure the yellow light, Because google's light is lost..
i love the first blue environment light and yellow in only google,

I think you should be use orange instead of yellow light.
you know orange is contrast with blue :)

02 February 2002, 02:32 PM
You're right, i'll try it, and instead of this sphere will be some kind of a mutated pet with big teeth...

02 February 2002, 12:27 PM
Added some gear&details:

02 February 2002, 06:19 PM
Changed his weapon a bit:

What do you think?

02 February 2002, 01:23 AM
Awsome charcater....but I liked his original weapon better. It just seemed to suit his character better to me.

02 February 2002, 04:55 AM
Rally nice stuff!

02 February 2002, 05:05 AM
Wow you just jumped in :D Very fast. Love the design, And exicution, but agree with Harvey on the weapon.

See you,

02 February 2002, 10:31 PM
Maybe you could use both weapons, one with each hand.
The phones are superb, what music is he listening to?

02 February 2002, 12:45 PM
You say the previous weapon was better... hmmm...
Anyway, some tests of rendering style and texturing. I have some problems with texturing - no texture seems to suit him...

02 February 2002, 03:52 PM
Prhaps you could let him without textures and play with lights...

I love your character, great stuff

See my Thread (

02 February 2002, 04:37 PM
Fab model, luv his subtle slouching forwad.
How about adding a yellow misty glow to his eyes, in the green render.

02 February 2002, 09:27 PM
Gave him back his weapon attached to right hand, and moved sword to left hand ... he is left handed now.

Glowing eyes seem to be good idea, and probably i'll leave him without textures, with maybe some dirt (True Grit or something similar), and some dirt added in Photoshop, after rendering.

02 February 2002, 09:35 PM
a Yeah,

good job :D

I love the blade on his hand, like Wolverine :)
And I like the lights too.

Can we see some wireframe soon and a capture from the vieuwport to see how much lights you use and where you place it?

Great stuff

02 February 2002, 09:49 PM
Will post some wireframes in a few days, for now it's only one omni light, of orange-red color, from right side, and Vray GI (very light blue-grey skylight), and it takes only few minutes to render in 800x1280 or so, just to see the details (athlon 1,33, 512 MB ram). One problem with Vray: it does not like bump maps and GI, don't know why...

02 February 2002, 09:52 PM
thanks for the answer azazel :D

02 February 2002, 05:46 AM
Really fantastic!

I'm not gonna give some critique on someone who's at least 10 times better than me, but I gues I'll give u 5 stars in place!

I'm just a poor guy who just got graduated. Spent some time (not verry much) play'n and testing in MAX. Learnt a bit, buet still can't make something nice. Most problems r the organic things.

U can see a few simple images i've posted here:
My 1st post (

So how's the best way to learn it without having much money???

Sorry for not giving any critique to your character, but there's just nothing to say. Except - I LIKE IT VERRY MUCH! -

Or maye...
A material suggestion:
U can gige him some metal that's a bit bumpy, rusty & has worn of paint on the sharp edges.

03 March 2002, 12:54 AM
cool looking model. nice proportions
i'd love to see him textured...
maybee his armor is made of leather instead of the metall stuff you tried earlier?

03 March 2002, 02:35 AM
whats up with all these characters that have the guards with holes in it a basic shape in lightwave? your character sports a lot of them, and it seems like every lightwave character has them incorporated, whats the deal?

03 March 2002, 03:02 AM
azazel - Very cool character! I like that you gave him both weapons; looks much better.

animazn - Are you serious? Those shapes are easy to make in any package. And they are used alot because they look cool. Nice first post.

03 March 2002, 04:27 AM
this char rules :)

he is proportioned alot like a character I am working on :)

Favorite so far keep it up. I can see what you mean he just seems to look kool untextured. WooT WooT

of course im serious...and im not asking how to do it...i was wondering if it was something basic in lightwave cuz i see everyone using it. however i have to disagree with you on its coolness, i dont think it looks cool b/c everyone is using it. oh well.

03 March 2002, 12:51 PM
Thx for comments..
These shapes with holes - i made them in Wings3D, don't use Lightwave, and simply like them. Thought about making his shoulders armour of halves of car tyres, but abandoned this idea...

Some update: textured, wireframe, and little test in Photoshop:

Textures will be more detailed on the edges of these metal elements, and they'll be a bit darker to put more contrast into it,
To do are also glow around eyes and mountains in background, and some metal rubbish on the ground...

03 March 2002, 12:58 PM
ah yeah :D i love it man

03 March 2002, 02:17 PM
Great character reminds me on an insect!

@animazn: this is just a simple method to add some details

03 March 2002, 10:09 PM
i know what they are neox. so far azazel is the only one to even come close with an answer. he made them in wings 3d. i originally just wanted to know if they were a feature in lightwave. great model though az.

03 March 2002, 11:55 PM
orange is a better contrast, but yellow contrast too

03 March 2002, 01:00 PM
Almost final... metal rubbish evolved into this sign and wires behind character, little touch-up in PS added, only minor changes to do:

03 March 2002, 01:25 PM
Hey excellent model, I love the the whole setting, Its good to see another Wings3D user.... :)

03 March 2002, 01:31 PM
Wow! The sign and the barbed wire are a great touch!

03 March 2002, 03:01 PM
Yiay! He's cooool!

03 March 2002, 03:59 PM
Very realistic.
I love it.
Could you put a bit of blood on the sword? :D

03 March 2002, 04:38 PM
azazel!!! I'm very proud of you!!! you've improved the character a looooot!!! Excelent!! now he's very very good!

Great update! Very nice environment!!
I love the "monocrome" color of the picture!

five starts to you!

03 March 2002, 12:27 PM
Final image:

It was big fun, but would be nice to create something different now...

03 March 2002, 06:56 PM
i love it :

a "military radioactive cartoon bot", héhé :)

Great stuff man :D
