3.06 GHz Northwood P4
1 gig DDR333 Ram
120GB WDC 7200rpm Hard Drive
120GB Maxtor 7200rpm Hard Drive
GeForce Ti 4800SE ---> Plan to upgrade to GeForce 6800GT
21 inch Dell Monitor set at 1280x1024 @ 100hz

For XSI, Nvidia cards over ATI's, IIRC. ATI's cause problems.

Dual AMD Athlon MP 2000
1 GIG Memory
2 /120 GIG hard drives seagate (never had a seagate melt but have had afew WD's die on me)
Geforce 6800 GTS ( just got it, used to have a ati 9800 pro worked with XSi pretty well )
Dual 21' montors
1280 x 1024 for both ( this the min rez for XSI )

won't upgrade untill the multi core processors are out...............
or XSI or Lightwave uses 64 bit Cpu's

the software you uses should always decide what Hardware you buy.

Intel P4 2.8Ghz, 1GB Ram, PNY Quadro 750 XGL, 4 x 160GB Seagate Barracuda, 2 x 80 GB Seagate Barracuda.
Monitor: iiyama 21" Vision Master 502, 1600x1200 (damn old CRT monitor).

Intel P4 2.4Ghz, 1GB Ram, nVidia Geforce4 ti4200, 80 GB Seagate Barracuda.

Dell 5150, P4 3.02GHz, 1GB Ram, nVidia Geforce FX Go5200 ( res = 1600x1200 ).

I always go with nVidia cards since they have the best trackrecord for XSI and Maya. When I was using Softimage|3D it was Wildcat or 3DLabs (which later became the same).
My "slave" was basicly my old PIII computer that I upgraded with a cheap motherboard and a CPU. It acts as my license server, firewall and internet router (running Linux).

If anyone is looking for a great bang for the buck regarding Laptops, i advise this one from Acer, it costed me 1.999 euros with taxes included, Itīs not your regular take it to the coffe shop Laptopt (weights 7.1 kilos and battery lasts for less than 1 hour), itīs a workstation replacement. XSI simply rules on it :buttrock:

Interesting thread. Well I gave up on my desktop PC at home, and have gone with laptop as my primary work horse. For me, it's a convenience issue. Being able to take it with me anywhere I go, and even at home with my wireless network I can work from anywhere in the house. This has gone a long way towards soothing my wifes computer widow syndrome. Here are my specs.

Dell Inspiron 8500
P4 2.4Ghz
2Gig Ram
NVIDIA GrForce4 4200 Go 64MB
WUXG Display resolution 1920 X 1200 X 32
60 Gig Primary HD
40 Gig Secondary HD
CD-RW/DVD+RW drive
Builtin Wireless Adapter
