View Full Version : PA Challenge-Character-OoZeballz

hi.. well after my horrible debut in the last challenge i figured i would put a little more thought in to this one.. i know i am not up to par with most of the people here but I figured i would try my best..
here's my WIP concept sketch..
he's supposed to be a nomadic ranger type of dude.... so ill give him lots of equipment and stuff...(O2 tank in the back.. rations ... weapons... )
here are some more developed parts...
also after looking at some of the other entries today. i realize that there are similarities between my character and some other ones.. so to answer any questions of originality here are the images that i created i while ago from which i based this character on...
this is also what the head of my character should look like

Good start, Ooze. The one thing(s) I seem to see in almost every character are the squarish "snaps" that hold the clothing together. If you could modify these slightly, it would provide a more original look.

ok.. here goes nothing...
this is the head.. with the air mask... still need to add the air hose attachment .. not sure if i want to add one or two.. (MAYBE SOME ONE CAN SUGGEST OR COMMENT SOMETHING ABOUT IT)
heres the profile...
and incase any one is wondering .. here's whats under the mask
seriouly any comments or suggestions would be greatly appreciated..

Maybe three air hoses?
And give some more light to your renders - we will see better, now they are too dark.
02 February 2002, 04:05 PM
ummm... 3 you say... must find place to put third one...
anyways here is about 3 hours worth of work from last post...
added the goggles ... whent with the overthehead from oakley design since ther seems to be an abundace of the regular kind..
trying to make the mask as uniqe as posible... (the third hose would be nice)
the circle things on the side of the goggles are lights...
and the headset wraps around the back
if for any reason the images dont work.. the can be viewed here

i've redone my concept... colored it and everything... it shows more detail.. and texture too... PLEASE let me know what you think.. i will be starting ot model the body tonight..
not sure what kind of weapon to put in... i've been thinking about a shotgun... or a rifle of some sort... he has granades on his chest... and a hand gun on the opposite side along with a knife... the things dow the side of his pants would be shells for his shotgun assuming thats the weapon i go with..
http://www.cnaworks.com/wip/full.jpg the feet need work... but the boot i sketeched before is good enough reference i think.. what do you think?
Here is a much larger version of the drawing... 180 kbs (http://www.cnaworks.com/wip/lager_concept.jpg)
02 February 2002, 11:28 AM
i realy need some comments ... or some sence of direction now..
im not sure if what i am doing is looking right or not.. it sort of looks right to me but i need some input..
02 February 2002, 11:49 PM
I think The head is great :D
Just try to give the body a more organic shape ... and for the pants I suggest you make a plain mirrored leg and when youíre done doing that you can ad individual details to each leg ... this way they wonít be identical and they will look more realistic...
Keep working the concept is cool ;)
(Sorry for my poor English)

just posting the wireframe from my model...
http://www.cnaworks.com/wip/wire_face.gif http://www.cnaworks.com/wip/wire_front.gif http://www.cnaworks.com/wip/wire_front2.gif http://www.cnaworks.com/wip/wire_back.gif
any coments on my progress greatly apreceated..
ps.. jrockstar .. i am mirroing the geometry... both on the shirt and pants
02 February 2002, 10:57 AM
it is coming together nicely...
This is a detail, but I think his torso is a bit square around his waist. I guess it is fine above, looks like he is wearing some protective gear or something underneath his jacket (also in your concept sketch), but the waist should probably be shaped a bit more 'naturaly'.
And his suspenders (the things that hold his backpack) look like they have no tension, like they are stuck to his suit. Maybe you could straigthen them out a little bit between his chest and his belt.
02 February 2002, 05:29 AM
just a small update... started to model the backpack ... semiconnected the hoses to the oxygen tanks...
and redid the belt and suspenders....
and comments or critiques welcome
02 February 2002, 01:05 AM
Nice work oozeballz! The chest and the suspenders look better now... keep it up! :D
02 February 2002, 09:28 AM

02 February 2002, 09:56 AM
thnx sama and jrockstar

02 February 2002, 03:15 PM
working on the back pack
any comments or critiques on this and the images above would be alot of help.. thnx
02 February 2002, 07:46 AM
any comments or critiques are always welcomed
also resized the images on my server so its not such a long page to load any more.. myabe if people would give me comments i could get a second page.. but i think thats too much to ask..
02 February 2002, 10:43 AM
more updates.... PLEASE COMMENT ON THIS!!!! or.. say stuff... or call me names .. just let me know how you feel about my model!!!
02 February 2002, 01:41 PM
you know it might be nice to know if I am headed in the right direction or if should just stop posting my updates here..
I think I am doing good work, but the lack of comments makes me think other wise.. I see other people getting numerous comments just on their sketches.. maybe I need better concept drawings? or maybe I need to focus on something else .. it would be nice to know.. I am sure many people will look at this and not reply .. so maybe its pointless to do this...
I thought the purpose of this challenge was to get input on your model while you worked on it.. but so far Iíve been practically working blind..
please tell me something.......
02 February 2002, 01:50 PM
not much 2cents to spare.. but nice backpack there. solid squarish with a tad of saggin cloth material. i like.
02 February 2002, 04:54 PM
cool job!! Is he a mountain man?
Clean modelling and good designs :)
Only I think he would be more futuristic, you know? Maybe a jet to fly!
That would be a good idea! :p
02 February 2002, 09:44 PM

02 February 2002, 06:11 PM
started to work on the body... added some detail.. almost finished with the back pack.. created the cloth thingie under chin... and working on th ewrincles of the jacket.
after the torso.. i shall work on the arms and then start to work on the pants... then the boots.. and finaly hands
still not sure what weapon..
let me know what you guys think.. i get lots of views but little replies ... please comment i need the input
02 February 2002, 07:41 AM
I definatley like the cloth feel to the face mask, and the whole breathing system with the hoses and tanks is very nicely modeled. Same goes for the wrinkles in his shirt around his neck and his backpack. The pants need some work, but I dont think your done them anyway. As far as a weapon... hmmm... maybe give him some sort of grapling hook gun or something, along with another rifle type gun.
Very good start, maybe give him a little more shape to his body and shoulders, and your on your way!
02 February 2002, 02:42 PM
thnx for the reply Arlend almost forgot i was working on this model..
i like your idea about the grappling hook thing .. i might make a modified shotgun of somesort..
about hte updates.. well i mostly worked on the torso.. i added lots of detail.. and i started to work on the pants.. nice shoes eh? wil work on those some more tonite.. there's something off about the proportions ... can you guys help? please, once again, any comments will be greatly appreciated and will encurage me to finish this damed thing
02 February 2002, 04:44 PM

Bravo oozeballz!! Your character is getting better and better!
I love the jacket!
02 February 2002, 10:50 PM
Love the boots and pants and stuff! I would still make the shoulders bigger and more broad though, and try moving the arms up slightly on his body.
