Don't know if anybody needs context for this topic, but I believe it's a fairly common bumper sticker. A person with a really sorry looking car (rust spots, smoke pouring from the exhaust) might have a sticker that says, "My other car is a Porsche".

Your friendly, neighborhood Ilikesoup:thumbsup:

My other car's a....SPIDERTANK!!

45min - Painter - Wacom

09-23-2004, 05:26 PM
Very nice andrewley!
I would be interested in what kind of brushes you use to make your speedpaints in painter. Personally I only stick to the airbrush/blender since i don't know much about the others. Could you just reply with a list of what you used? I would be interested in it. :)

09-23-2004, 06:05 PM
Really cool drawing Andrewley, i wonder how you can achieve such a good result in just 45mins.
Maybe you should post a tutorial...:D

09-23-2004, 06:32 PM
Cheers guys. I'm afraid I don't have time (read as :cant be arsed) to do a tutorial, but maybe this will help a little...

09-23-2004, 06:54 PM
Thanks man:beer: !

45min / painter & photoshop (to save) / wacom

My first pic with Painter. Had to play around with it a bit to figure the interface out, but that program has some cool brushes! If anyone can give me a few handy hotkey tips Id appreciate it.

My other car is a BANTHA!!
I just hate cleaning up the poodoo

@ andrewley - fantastic pic as always. thanks for the little play by play too. I love seeing how other artists work. Especially the awesome ones.

@ sagi_13 - haha.. the fuel would be alot cheaper. Looks like we had kinda similar ideas.

@ andrewley again - Damn!!! I changed my mind... I wan one of those!

09-23-2004, 08:47 PM
here's a tutorial that follows a 'similar' workflow that andrewly seems to use. all artists are different, but this should at least give you some idea on how to 'build up' your paintings from silhouettes.

20 mins in photoshop.

09-24-2004, 12:20 AM

I took quite a close look at Taron's windcity, hope you don't mind, Taron :)

09-24-2004, 12:33 AM
My other car is a Big Bad Ass Robot!

Well, I started out with a Gundam-style Mech, but I choose to do a somewhat
simpler design. 'Cos I had a feeling that it would take me 2,5h to finish it to my satisfaction.

Painter & Photoshop

That Harley is cooool!
And also is that box! Hahah...!

Cheers everyone.

09-24-2004, 12:48 AM
My other car is......Impounded.

09-24-2004, 01:09 AM
My other car is......dead

09-24-2004, 02:18 AM
I too, have a giant robot for my other car,

but Art2, my giant Robot can kick your giant robot's giant metal ass!

(mostly because he's green, and green's better than ... what, rust?) ;)

Maya - about 20 minutes, Photoshop, like 2 and a half hours!!

I saw somebody's stuff off the front page that blocked everything in with a grey GI render, and simple shapes before starting in Photoshop, so I thought I'd give it a go.

09-24-2004, 02:58 AM
My othercar is a JetPack. 28min. Photoshop, Trackball.

09-24-2004, 03:02 AM
My other car is a Beetle.

3 hrs photoshop.

09-24-2004, 03:03 AM
I've always had problems drawing cars so this is a great challenge for me.

OpenCanvas1.1 :: 1hr 15min :: wacom
Photoshop :: 30min :: wacom

I must say that without photoshop I couldn't have done this. It makes it much nicer to blend & add secondary colors in and out. Wish it could do the perspective for me

I did so much in photoshop it is pointless for me to post the canvas event file. Unless someone really wants it.

09-24-2004, 03:13 AM
Great work dragon!! your robot almost looks real and if it is can i take it for a test drive?:buttrock:

09-24-2004, 03:14 AM

My other car is a...

kk, this may sound unbelievable but this pic took me almost 6 hours..... lol mainly because apart from the pen sketch I did everything with my mouse..... it was freakin HARD! god... there are still alot of things I could have added/fix, like give him a tounge, fix the back feet, better background.. I had wanted lava to be shooting up in the background but couldnt do it with a mouse.. I could fixed the eyes too.. for some reason they dont seem.. right.. like they are but.. i dunno.. oh also if your asking why is that box there? well... because when I initially drew it and scanned it in I didnt realize that his front er.. feet were higher than the back and I can fix that with a mouse so I just drew a box underneath :p

AND the only thing that was sketched was mustardwash.. the floor design, the background was done by mouse in PS.. god.. never OH and I was gonna have a drawing of my avatar in the top right with a little thing saying "Run lil' doggy!" but I decided it looked better without it...

phew.. my hand seriously hurts now..

oh ya, heres a high res version -

09-24-2004, 04:26 AM
btw, guys, amazing work so far, really love what im seeing :)

also.. if anyone wants to donate a wacom tablet to me I wouldnt say no.. ;) haha jk :D unless of course your willing haha

oh man i was just playing around with the size of the smiley face and then decided i didn't like it big, so by insticnt pressed the crtl+z and viola! it went back...thanks cgtalk for knowing us so darn well.

09-24-2004, 08:26 AM
Taron - grat job - your colors are excellent!

09-24-2004, 08:55 AM
...colors are excellent!

Thanx...I wasn't even so sure about them. I'm kinda in a general color distress these days....I guess I'm trying to learn my way up to the next grade so to say...but this picture is more like a token for that I'm not secure yet...

Anyway...thanx again! :)

09-24-2004, 09:54 AM

66mins, painter

very nice work from everyone

09-24-2004, 10:59 AM
My other car is a YELLOW CONVERTIBLE!!!

photoshop, around an hour, wacom, I tried a mix between eldee's tutorial (thanks!) and my own style, I'm not completely happy with it... I'll continue experimenting

[edit: pic removed to get bandwidth down]

andrewley, what did you have for breakfast today? hehehe

dargon, are buildings made in maya and the robot in photoshop? or is it the other way? or some kind of mix between them? just being curious...

roozelle, great idea, hehe

patogonzalez, that's a beautiful red X

robinayles, I like it, but I think it's very dangerous to let children drive jetcars, hehehe, drive carefully!

09-24-2004, 11:25 AM
Cheers guys! Great, great stuff today!

elmasfeo - Kind of a mix - The buildings were similar enough to what they look like now, except for the photoshop filters - I didn't have time last night to paint them all in properly :( But the road and intersection lights were painted in. The robot was a base character mesh that I've named "everyman". He's about 600 tris or so, and I use him mostly as a starting point when modeling characters, to save a bit of time, but I rigged him up for posing for scale stuff. Popped him in, and painted over to make it a robot. Of course, the shading he provided did give a good start for the shading of the robot...

I like the technique, I've been thinking about doing a proper, full-res illustration for awhile now, and I think this will be how I go about it. It's nice to have a lot of your lighting worked out, and composition, and perspective, and just have to deal with the subject matter.

09-24-2004, 12:05 PM
My other car is...

an AUDI!

Done with a (mind you) stupid mouse... I didn't want to spend much time on it but if I had more, I'd redo the front.

Hi, been lurking a while, thought it was finally time for my first entry..

Took me about 30mins in opencanvas

09-24-2004, 01:52 PM
Kvaalen: With a MOUSE!? O_O

Damn, that's good..

I've tried ealier to draw something, but failed miserably. I'll try again later on.. You people are sooo good..

09-24-2004, 03:46 PM
i missed a couple this week.. short on time and sleep, but i had today off and wanted to do something, so here it is: about 1.5 hours in alias sketchbook

edit: oh man, i was usurped by a delayed batman sketch! the shame! :argh::blush::curious::D

09-24-2004, 04:26 PM
Geta-Ve: You had me cracking up! I am honored to be your other car. Looks great, especially since it was done with a mouse.

Dargon: I have been wanting to try that "style" too. I have seen a few pics that used a basic 3D setup first and they always look great. Seeing your pic just makes me want to that much more! Great job. Be sure to let us know if you do a proper full-res illustration in this way. I know I would be very interested to see the results, that no doubt would be fantastic! :D

not enought time to comment on all of em... maybe later today.

P.S. The Batman pics are great. Very funny! :applause:

09-24-2004, 04:55 PM

Adobe Illustrator CS : 10 min : Mouse

My other transportation device is a chopper bicycle. Only used in the summertime, when it's not raining.

09-24-2004, 09:33 PM
andrewly: stop posting! seriously you're making us look bad :scream:
roozelle: this one stuck out to me, nice use of irony!
lopoly: nice composition.. i love the little details like the oil slick and broken mirror. exactly what you should expect to see if your car is ever run over by a tank!
stevev: impounded or not, that is one cop i wouldnt be able to argue with
thebigxer: the guy with the goggles is too cool :)
dargon: love the 2.5d composition. i know you said you didnt have alot of time for the buildings, but they definately have a 'photoshop filtered' look to them. still looks great, but you can tell it was filtered ;) also- to give your robot a better 'flying' illusion, a vapor trail or heat dissipation and parhelia would work good.

I really like these sketch forums. It's really inspired me to just have fun sketching stuff and to try new techniques. Anyway this is a crazy offroad truck that is inspired by all those cool industrial design type star wars drawings and some syd mead.
