View Full Version : Invisible cursor!

I don't know if everybody have this problem, but when you place your cursor over 50% grey areas in PS, it becomes completely invisible!!
I have reported this as a bug to Adobe, but anyways, how can this problem even exist??

This problem applies at least for the presicion cursor.

Add grouped H&S adj. layer and change lightness. Disable this adj. layer or throw it away after you're done. Not the best solution, but the only one I can think of right now.

Thats the workaround i use, even tho its a horrible work around.

Try holding space for the "hand".
Or you can use alt or ctrl.
Personally, I use alt.

Thanks for the tips!
I suggest everybody send an email to Adobe and request an upgrade/script or whatever that fixes this problem! It can't be much of an programming issue!
Until then I guess we have to stick with the horrible workarounds ;)

I submitted an product feature request at (

Sorry to top this, but maybe someone will read this and post a better workaround?

Why? I use 50% gray a lot for non-destructive editing and once you choose a blending mode you won't have the problem of the invisible cursor. Can someone give me an example of when you want this cursor to be visible? Seems to me that a different editing or retouching approach can avoid in 99% of the cases that you really need that cursor, otherwise it would have been fixed years ago don't you think, after all this already the 8th version of PS.

Just my $0,02 of course.

yeah, use ctrl or alt as an anti invisibility toggle!

This way the small, invisible cursor changes to a larger cursor until you release the button. Gives you a clue to where the h3ll your cursor has gone! :)

When painting bumpmaps or diplacementmaps, I want to start with a 50% grey image and be able to see where I have my brush located. Of course I could change the value a bit. All I'm saying is that this shouldn't be a problem at all...

Aye for disp or bump maps one needs to edit a straight greyscale image with a midpoint of 50%.

Ok, yes, that makes sense, thanks.

That's one of the most enoying things in PS, and Adobe likes to think that it doesn't happen. I believe most people in here already requested a better algorithm for the cursor transfer mode, but so far not a single reaction from Adobe.

For now we keep being creative and developing nasty workrounds.

Something to read:

its a problem that macs didnt have until OSX...but now they do as well...according to adobe engineers the OS's are forcing them to jump "through hoops" to get it done.

Which totally doesnt answer why its still not been done...
