View Full Version : how do i create those two - three toned pictures?

i've been trying to figure out how to take a pic of a black person and turn it where the shadows or blue, green, gray or red and the highlights are white.

this is an example of what i'm trying to achieve. it's the technique done with the photos on top of the webpage

first turn your image into a greyscale one, do your brightness/contrast corrections then turn it into a duotone image (menu: Image>mode>duotone...) in the dialog box you just need to specify the colors you want, keep it monotone if you want it like the example and choose a blue color instead of black

Or a non-destructive way is to create a new Adjustment Hue and Saturation Layer click the Colorize check box, and then simply slide the top slider to pick the color you want.

I've put something together that shows how to do the effect as shown in your example:

image>adjustments>gradient map or gradient map adjustment layer will do this as well.

these ideas are all very excellent. that gradient map technique, with the reverse box checked, looks like what they used for one clip on LL Cool J's Head Sprung video when he was getting the ice cream cone. cool
