View Full Version : Creating Engine Wash effect in Max 5.

Hey Guys...

Just wondering if anyone had a good tecnique for creating this effect. You know, when a space ship engine passes in front of the camera and the view is distorted like intense heat is bellowing out?

This would really help me out..

I'm modelling in Max but I suppose you can do the same thing in Maya & XSI with no probs

Hmm I suppose you could model a tapered cylinder behind the engine and give it a raytraced material (play with the index of refraction, IOR for short). Add a noise modifier to the tapered cylinder and animate it..
