View Full Version : smoothing in Z

I am mostly modelling in Maya where it is a simple matter to smooth the low poly cage with a lot of control on how tight the model is smoothed.

My question is when i import a low poly model into Z and smooth it....its extremely rounded/smoothed and i lose all of the features i modelled in the low poly version.

What is the approach to not losing the detail?

My guess is to smooth it once in maya to get enough vertices so the modell doesnt end up like a marshmellow with beady eyes.

-and no...i dont intend on using zspheres....i need complete control of the low poly mesh

Not sure if I have seen this before.

Can you post some screenshots to show us what you mean???

Divide your model first using the transforms, or you can turn off smoothing when you increase subd levels. You'll need to juggle when you do or don't do these on a per-model basis so you don't end up with faceting.
