...alright, this is actually the most complicated sketch I've done so far. At least to me!
I found the car and found Mel in his classic pose, but totally changed the pose and totally changed the light and totally changed everything, trying to still have him recognizable....well....don't think it worked...but I don't care either...it's been 2.5h of "eehh, ahh, eahh, iiihh, rrrgh..." in openCanvas1.1

Have fun...

Thanks elmasfeo! I love the colours u have chosen, the car is simply amazing and the pic is wonderful!

Btw...u are right about the lack of entries..I was wondering where has everybody gone too!

09-13-2004, 01:41 PM
thx andy!

concerning the lack of entries... i guess everyone is waiting for the happy-birthday-dsg topic ;)

09-13-2004, 01:46 PM
I am bad (or maybe just inexperienced is the better word) at drawing cars and anything in action really...but in the spirit of the group and to get some practise in this area...here goes nothing...

09-13-2004, 02:20 PM

McSpirit: I love Sonic : ). Nice sketch, man.

Octothreat: Cool deal. I think this would be an awesom sketch if you spent more time on it.

-Andy-: Your work is consistantly good. I really like your tree, and the sunset. The only thing that seems weird to me is the lightness of the sword.

Tempest811: I used to watch Wilie Coyote and Road Runner all the time.... nice job on techin' him up.

Taron333: Well, you're right, it doesn't look much like him... but that doesn't make your sketch any less great =). Very nice job on this one. I like the way you paint... it always has this 'wet clay' look to it. I tried emulating it in OpenCanvas... but I haven't figured it out yet.

captain chapo: Your boss is buying you a tablet!?!?! Ahhh lucky guy =). Make sure you get a nice one. I'm sure once you get used to a tablet, your sketches will improve. I like your sketch... the idea makes me chuckle.

Opeth: Welcome to the DSG! Nice sketch... your proportions seem good to me. Btw, your "Jean" character is amazing.

Phade: Yeahhhh fast cars =). Is that supposed to be the car that's in your avatar? I like the tone/mood.

Cyanid: Nice composition and colors =).

DocBoom: For some reason I can't get the bottom half of your image to load. I wish I could see the whole thing... I like the monotone look, and what I can see of the girl's pose looks good.

elmasfeo: Great image! Hah I love your idea...

drawMonger: I like your sketch very much - you're better at drawing cars in action than I am, that's for sure.

sagi_13: You know I always wondered what the toll booth guys do if you try to give them a $100 bill. Can they change it? And what if you don't pay... I guess the cops track you down? Spiffy idea.

Supervlieg: Steven.S and Goro may not come around much anymore... but at least you're still here. Lovely sketch, man. Though I think that guy is a little too big to fit inside that car ; ).

Ti-Ki: Combustion? Coool... I didn't know you could do stuff like that with that program - isn't it a compositiing program? I really like the style and the color tones.

Well, I haven't done one for a few days... maybe I'll get the 100 one done =).

09-13-2004, 05:30 PM
Thank you Andyman.
Well, since this warrior is a traveler as well, the sword is the only thing that could use to lighten the the darkness, and without his weapon he would be lost in the shadow. This is pretty much the reason.

captain chapo
09-13-2004, 06:41 PM
thanks andy and andyman.

Ti-Ki : wow, i had no idea you could do stuff like that withit, i'll have to check it out, i have a copy but i only have ever used it for muzzle flares in movies.

drawmonger : that reminds me of death race 2000. hehe, funny movie. gj.

and everyone else(who showed) is looking good!

09-13-2004, 06:49 PM
Ti-Ki that's just Awesome! Yeah, I really dig that style, too! Jetsonish wicked 50s/60s with a european twist....nice! Have you animated it, hahaha!? Combustion...incredible....

Andyman and Andy: Thanx boyz, I really appreciate it! It's all about fun and exercise.
I'm not too interested in making charicatures of celebrity, or any, really, but I'm somewhat curious about finding the keys. I probably should try doing it in Canvas, or if there, then at higher resolutions, because it's really tough to work on too few pixels..Canvas is too coarse!
Anyway, Andyman, you gotta figure out how to use the main brush (paintbrush) and its three Effect sliders. Make presets that allow for straight paint, straight smudge! I switch back and forth between pen and paintbrush(full smudge(second slider 100%, rest 0%)).
This way I can lay a color and smudge it for shading purposes!

Good work everyone except Supervlieg......kidding, it's beautiful! This guy IS moving! But that's your skill beyond your choices. Excellent!

09-13-2004, 09:33 PM
Thanks, Taron, I'll have to check that out : ).

09-13-2004, 10:01 PM
Ti-Ki, that's a wonderful style. I really like the crisp colours on the card-like texture. I hope to see more of your work!

Thanks for the encouragement Andyman :)

captain chapo, I never saw the movie...but the idea was loosely based on an old role playing game I played in my school years called 'Car Wars'...not sure if it's still around, but it was a bit of fun at the time.

09-14-2004, 02:35 AM
thanks Andy and Andyman

Phade: Yeahhhh fast cars =). Is that supposed to be the car that's in your avatar? I like the tone/mood.
Actually the avatar I created is something totally different, though after doing the sketch yesterday I started to think it seemed a bit similar too, as far as color scheme is concerned. Guess it's cause shades of blue are my favorite colors :)

Well, here you are Andyman. Regardless of lateness, I decided to extend my sketch by about a half hour. Hope it meets expectiations. Oh, and during that half hour I reconfirmed that no, I cannot draw guns...
(or roads.... or cacti.... or people.... or skies... )

09-14-2004, 07:12 AM
DocBoom: For some reason I can't get the bottom half of your image to load. I wish I could see the whole thing... I like the monotone look, and what I can see of the girl's pose looks good.

Anyone else having this problem? I tried it on another pc an the pic did load correctly.Clearing your cache might help...

09-14-2004, 09:26 AM
Road Warrior Scott Bloomquist, I did this for a t shirt on the day of the topic, it just dawned on me then that he's a road warrior, 4 hours Photoshop. Photo references of course.

09-14-2004, 01:31 PM
Almost didn't post this - not really happy with how it turned out...anyway...
