OK, but didn't Intel publicly demo a 4 Ghz PIV chip several months ago?

I'm not a "fan" of AMD or Intel, I just don't think this is really news. It's a 2.6 GHz chip that AMD says runs like a 3,400. It's pretty much what AMD has to do to remain competitive, not a giant leap foward.

:: CitizenVertex, both companies have unreleased advanced processing technologies. Only current market products are important now. I'm absolutely sure AMD is it's own 4Ghz Opteron running in their labs awaiting public preview. Until then, keep the heated competition coming :: :applause:

not a giant step forward? its a 64 bit chip. think about what that will do for your render times.

We've had affordable 64 bit and even 128 bit processors for years now, they just never ran Windows. If running Windows in 64 bit is a giant step foward then hurray for AMD and all mankind, I guess.

Sorry, I guess I'm just feeling a little jaded tonight. It will pass.:)

ha, no worries

but this will indeed have a LARGE impact on intel. the opteron, hammer's big brother, is designed to compete with the xeon and itanium.

so i'll just have to buy a whole new system again every two months just to keep up. Oh to be a millionaire

Do that and you loose.... You buy a machine to do a job... If it does that job then it is good.
If it doesn't get a new one. simple as that.
